I use a 7' H/XF. You didn't want a brand, but I'm gonna tell you anyways. I use an All Star American Classic ACPS2, rated for 3/8oz to 2oz baits. It's called a "pitching" rod but serves as my frog rod and is exceptional in that role.

I like MH or H with a fast tip. The MH or H will vary between manufacturers but basically I like a good deal of backbone for obvious reasons. I differ from others because I like the idea of a little bit more softness in the tip to let the bass take in the frog while the strong backbone provides the power to get hook penetration. I don't mean a crankbait rod type soft tip, but something that gives a little.

That's precisely what I like about my "pitching" rod. The action is XF, but the tip is a wee bit soft. There is a distinct difference between my H/XF flipping rod and my H/XF pitching rod, and that's it. The flipping rod is like an oak table leg all the way to the tip.

Cabelas Tourney IM7 in 7 ft Med Fast/Med Heavy

They do not have this in the Fish Eagle II

How ever if they are still on sale when my tax return comes I may go to the Fish Eagle II 7 ft MH. as I would like to have the Fish Eagle II all around

Muddy, the fish eagle II rods are on sale buy one, get one half price until march 2. By the way, I did not know you are famous, other than on this website. Your review of the fish eagle rods is in the cabelas master fishing catalog. You da man.

Come on Muddy...spring for that new Cabelas Prodigy rod; it looks as good as some of my high-end rods. Regardless of which model you buy, go with a 7' Heavy.

*edit* Nevermind...I didn't know there was a $40 difference between the Prodigy and Tourney IM7 rods. I though it was more like $20.

I have two different Frog rods. If I'm covering water on an open grass bed I use a 7'6" H/XF. Like has been said there is a difference between a Flipping and a Pitching Rod. A Pitching Rod is what your looking for.

The other one is a 6'8" H/Fast Rod. It's as stiff as a bat. I use this one when I'm in standing timber and need to make short accurate casts. It will turn the head of any fish and get them out of the thick stuff quick. It doubles as my dock rod.

Yeah...and not all Heavy power rods are created equal either. The Daiwa 7'1" Steez Compile-X or MBR 844 Loomis would be on the light side for a true frog rod. My Zillion 7' Heavy's are broomsticks and work well . I fish frogs over hydrilla, and I think you need a broomstick to be able to effectively horse them into the boat.

See, I could do the 7'6" heavy if I were pitching frogs, but I hate trying to cast with a 7'6" Flippin' stick. You swimbait guys may cast with 7.5ft broomsticks all the time....I just can't do it!

If the 7'6 rod is light enough, it's like you're casting nothing, it's not a problem at all, seriously.

I love long rods for pitching frogs and for long casts, the longer rod helps me LAUNCH that frog far out in open water.

I had an 8-4, 7-14, and 7-12 this year all with a bobbys perfect frog and a 765 and 766 flipping sticks and 65lb braid.

My swimbait rod is 8ft ;D

Muddy, I know you are a fan of Cabela's Rods and the Fish Eagle II is a nice rod, but if you catch a Cabelas XML (specifically the C704-1) for sale or in the Bargin Bin, I think you will be very pleased. I love my XML's.

I missed them when they were on sale for 99 bucks, the sale and available funds were not there. Those Prodigy Rods feel great,and seem well made. I prefer cork straight handles and they are made with foam/split grips :-[

Cabelas Tourney IM7 in 7 ft Med Fast/Med Heavy, If you are going to use braid then you choice is on the nose. I have been using a 7' MF/MH & a 7' MF/H for a couple of years now & they work well for me. I do not use braid as I find Yo-Zuri Hybrid works for me. I use KVD line conditioner & have no problems.

I use a Daiwa Light & Tough Frog Rod 7'4" Heavy Telescoping Rated for 1/4oz-1 1/2oz baits and 17-30lb line. No other specs. Only frog rod I have owned. But its great rod. Bought it here on flea market from Brokeju. I love it.

Been seaching for years for the perfect floating frog rod. Finally found one and it has worked out just perfectly for the past couple years. It is a 7'3'' MH St. Croix Legend "Carolina rod." After years of looking, this is the best rod I have ever used for frogs! Great tip for casting and skipping the frog, strong butt section to haul a big fish out of cover.

One thing you should be aware of is a Heavy or Medium Heavy with one company is NOT the same as with another. These MH rods are actually stiffer then most flipping sticks I have used.

Yea you right! I was not pleased with the older Cabelas Tourney IM7 mfast/mh , but the updated newer one seems to have the action and feel i was looking for. This summer will tell if I made the right move.
