fishing user avatarJeziHogg reply :

I can't wait anymore.... lol.

fishing user avatarJrob78 reply :

I got to handle one today.  It's crazy light and tiny.   I wasn't able to put it on a rod but it felt solid for how small and light it is.

fishing user avatarAlonerankin2 reply :

Yup, still wanna know if it's mag. Or ci4+ anyone found out for sure?

fishing user avatarCgrinder reply :

Not even a little bit. They ugly.

How do it feel in your hand? What do you think of the knobs?

It felt like it would need to go on a really light rod or it wouldn't balance well at all.  The reel almost seemed too small.   Other than that it felt great.  It felt solid and smooth.  I liked the knobs a lot.

fishing user avatarJeziHogg reply :

What can you compare the size of it too?

fishing user avatarJrob78 reply :

It kind of reminded me of some of the really small Daiwa reels, (Pixy, Alphas, etc) only it seemed smaller.  It could be because it is so light that it seemed smaller than it really is.  I wish I could have put it on a rod to get a better idea of the size.

fishing user avatarbootytrain reply :

Im ordering one from Japan as soon as I see them available. 4.7 oz is crazy light

Wow! I'd have to have a custom made to facilitate a reel this light, sounds sweet to me..

I grabbed my Core50 and took the handle, nut, drag star and spool off of it (gotta be an ounce lighter) and put it on some of my rods. The lighter the rod the better the feel in hand. Smoke rod felt the best and Helios right there. The heavier rods like *** Crucial LTB didnt feel the greatest the Crucial LTB for sure cause the balance was off the most.

I need to get something with my$300 giffcards at Gander so will be waiting for 1. they get them and 2. a sale they usually have like $50 off $400 spent or $100 off $500 and get Ald and another smoke rod.

fishing user avatarJeff H reply :

Wow.  4.7 oz is insane!  What kind of line capacity do they offer?

mono  10/105, 12/85, 14/70

braid   20/115, 30/105, 40/80

fishing user avatarkschultz76 reply :

The reel is certainly sexy and has my attention. I'm getting a Metanium first for sure though. Right now my arsenal is full of very versatile rods that do more then one thing well. This reel seems very pitching/flipping oriented so if I have a dedicated rig for that someday this may be the reel for it. The rod that does a lot of the duty today is my Orochi XX Tour Versatile, but I also throw crigs, frogs/toads, anything in general that requires a heavy powered rod. This reel just wouldn't pair well with that particular rod.

Got to see this reel today at the expo. Incredibly light and comfortable to hold. Wish I could justify purchasing one

fishing user avatarfishballer06 reply :

I want one, but it would have to come out of the wedding fund....

Fiance might chop a hand off if I do that.

fishing user avatarbootytrain reply :

I just ordered one from Japan, only $293 out the door.

Hopefully we'll get this last ice storm past us tonight and the rain tomorrow and tomorrow night will melt the remaining ice and snow. After that, the 10-day forecast looks pretty good !

I don't expect an ice-out on my lakes for a while though... :(

There's always the Caney Fork
fishing user avatarArv reply :

If it's like the old model then it will feel smaller than a 50 size shimano. The side plate is flatter than other 50 size models making it even nicer to palm. At least for me. I haven't used a ton of different gear, but it's one of my favorite reels I've ever used.

I think you might be referring to the BFS XG bro.

I wanted the high gear model...  a lot of you eager beavers beat me to the punch and they are sold out everywhere, so I got the regular. Ill just pick up the high gear later lol.

They actually came out with 2 Aldebarans this year, the BFS XG Limited with a super shallow spool. So you weren't mistaken.

Then the all new model that is not pure BFS

Roger that. I wasn't being accurate in saying the old model then. I have the bfs. But comparing the bfs to the newly released probably wasnt the best comparison.
