Chronarch 50/51E...talk Me Into One! 2025

fishing user avatarColdSVT reply :

Ive got it in my head i want a 51e Chronarch

I have a 201 e curado and citica. So im familiar with the frame, brakes, and abilities of them.

Also how does it compare to the ci4+ in size?

fishing user avatarGoose52 reply :

Well, there's just "something" about that 50-series form factor that is addicting.  Palms extremely well, they're solid reels, have perfect line capacity for what I do.  I have four reels on this platform (3-50E and 1 Core50) and really like them.

OTOH, I've been fishing a Scorpion 200 (Curado I) for the last few days and am finding that I may have an equal attraction to that form factor as well.  It also palms very well, has X-Ship and VBS braking, and is a VERY nice reel as well. It has more line capacity that I need but that's not a big issue.  I'm thinking that I may not be buying anymore of the old 50-series platform reels (unless there is a killer close-out deal on Core 50s sometime in the future... ;) ).

Haven't fished a CI4+ so can't comment on that.

All the 50 series shimanos are sweet. Just straight up soild easy to palm reels. Ive had em all, cant go wrong. Tons of aftermarket ugrades & gear swaps too.

Id say the 50 size shimano is slightly smaller then a ci4+

Kudos on the Curado I and its easy palmability.. I unloaded my 50 platform reels because the " I " is ever so very close in comfort, but has a all new build, I like the curado 50 but can't see it over the I series, imo... Great little reels though (50)

In that case - you need to "collect the set".................................................

fishing user avatarBassinLou reply :

I just had the same thought creep into my head recently. LOL.. Didn't help that a buddy of mine really reinforced the idea. So I waited for BF and with the help from Tywithay a member from here and I found a brand new 50E for $150. Just got her back tuned up and upgraded with a 92mm Hawgtech handle and carbonex drag washers.  I also have a couple of Curado I's but this little 50E intrigues me. I am excited to fish with it. Goodluck deciding ;)

Talk you in to one? Here goes:

Because if you don't buy one, you will

always wonder if you should have bought

one. Especially with those of us who have

one or two of 'em constantly talk about

how we love them!!

If you don't like it, plenty out there who'll

buy it off ya!

Now if that doesn't help you make up your mind, you really don't want one. ..lol.

fishing user avatarFishTank reply :

I posted the same question earlier this year and pulled the trigger on a 51e.  I love it so far.  It's smooth, it cast a country mile and it is down right fun to fish.  It also has a lot of power for a little reel.

fishing user avatarcurtis9 reply :

I had a 200e5 and a 200e7. Bought a 50e and now own two core 50s and a scorpion. Beware if you purchase one. It may get expensive

It's okay, brother. Give in, you'll thank us

later.

fishing user avatarCgrinder reply :

Buy two. They're small.

fishing user avatarColdSVT reply :

I was gonna go handle one at field and stream today but the 8inches of snow cancelled school and i home with he kid...and i wont drive that far in this crap with my daughter

fishing user avatarbass1980 reply :

I'm not sure if anyone else notice but to me the 50 series is smoother than the 200 series. Stock, flushed, or bocas, it seems the 50 is smoother and it definitely cast better. I had 3 chronarch 201 and 2 chronarch 51's. The 50's is smoother for some reason. I've sold all my 201's but I don't think I'll ever sell my 50's. Even when I'm upgrading to better reels I plan to keep these little guys. They are versatile with the lakes that I fish especially since I fish with braids on my two 51e's so I don't have to worrying about line capacity.

And the Scorpion XT1000 is smoother than the Curado 50E. I don't know how the Chronarch 50E compares to the CU50E, but the XT1000 is noticeably smoother than the CU50.

How is this even up to question, just buy one you won't regret it!

This should be reason enough. You'll thank me, but your wallet won't.

fishing user avatarSenko lover reply :

A surprising number of the pros use the Cronarch. It is an absolute workhorse. I know someone who has 32 of them (!). From all I've heard of them, I was tempted to get one, but I ended up with something a little more in my budget. Go for it, man!

fishing user avatarDelaware Valley Tackle reply :

How can anyone here with a post count in the double digits not know the benefits of the 50/51 Shimano s? Just pull the trigger already. Lol

Handled one on a ***...yep im gonna have a 51e

fishing user avatarBassinLou reply :

I have fished my new 50E twice since i got it back from a friend of mine that works on reels. He cleaned and tuned it up for me. I spooled it with 40lb braid and this reel can cast pretty far and its very smooth and quiet when retrieving. The 92mm Hawgtech handle really compliments it too!! I see this reel staying in my arsenal for a looong time.

I have a curado 201 and 2 cronarch Ci4+ (a 151 and a 151hg). I think that cronarch is one of the best reels on the market except the Metannium, but that's big bucks. For some reason I always feel lefty.... Just a preference but I'd definitely go to the cronarch ci4+. It's a sweet, light reel. Last year I took my dad out on a guided trip with a local tourney pro who had the original cronarch's. I asked him how he liked the reel and he said he had a dislike for them, but loved the new ci4+'s. They are very palm able and have a great weight to them. If I had the $ I'd probably get a core MG...

fishing user avatarbass1980 reply :

If you ever get a chance flush those bearings. Sometimes shimano over grease the bearings. A flush and a drop of oil will make the reel even better! If you don't mind opening up the reel take that annoying anti reverse paw out too.
