BPS Carbonlite Rods-Great! 2025

fishing user avatarghost reply :

Saw that the new Carbonlite rods are on sale online. So I made a copy of the sale and too a drive to the BPS store.

I found the Carbonlite rods and I really liked the look and it is very light. I compared the 6'9" MH Carbonlite to the Abu Garcia 6'9" MH Vendetta casting rods. The Carbonlite was lighter and more eye appeal for, the sensitivity is great and the new guides looks sweet. I then the 7'2" M spinning rod & compared it to the Vendetta 7' M rod. The Carbonlite being a bit longer was still lighter than the Vendetta spinning rod. You pick up both and the Vendetta spinning rod feels like pig compare to the lightness of the Carbonlite.

I took the 6'9" MH Carbonlite rod w/ a new 2010 Quantum Accurist b/c reel for a test run today. I didn't catch any bass but the huge shads were in there & I snagged a few. The shads put up a great fight when foul hooked. The Carbon lite rod is very sensitive and it is sweet to look at. I bought both rods mentioned since they are all on sale for $70, even the 100+ ones were $70. I am so thinking of adding a couple more, that's how much I like them. The new foam handle is not like other foam handle/grip. It feels firmer for a foam grip and it feel great too. No problem at all it it was very comfortable to hold on to.

I think BPS hit a winner w/ this line of rods. I just wish they would come out w/ a Carbonlite b/c reel in left hand. The new gold JM b/c reel looks awesome & will maybe get one during the spring classic sale.

fishing user avatarGoose52 reply :

It only took BPS about a day and a half to fix that $70 price for all lengths of the BC and spinning rods on-line. Now, they're all reduced by a flat $20 from regular price. Glad you got the $70 price on both ! :)

I just picked up a 6'6" baitcasting version today.  I love the feel and the weight.  I am going to be trying it out this weekend.  I was amazed at how light the rod is and the grip is very comfortable in my hand.  I have always found split grips uncomfortable to use but I like this one a lot.  I may have just found my new favorite rod since I cant afford the Loomis rods.  If it passes the fishing test this weekend I will be replacing my other rods with these.

Let us know because I will be looking for a new rod!

You can show that something is on sale on-line and get the discount in the store? How does this process work?

Ghost

Last year, BPS online and instore pricing was always different. I would print off the online sale price (on the same day I went to the store) and show it to the cashier. They will call a manager to approve it and always honored it.

I have noticed this year that their online/instore pricing and sales/clearances are more in synch.

fishing user avatarTpayneful reply :

If you pay for the Rod or Reel at the Reel counter tell them that it is on sale online and you want the online sale price.  They will look it up and give you the sale price.  2009 Extreme rods were $59.94 online but $79.99 in the store.  Told them about that and the Johnny Morris Elite was $129.  Got both for the online price.  Didn't have to print anything.

fishing user avatarkoulaid reply :

Thinking about picking this up. Picked it up and it was pretty light.

fishing user avatarOnthePotomac reply :

I read an evaluation of several rods in that price range on another forum by a rod builder, who is very particular, and he gave the Carbonlite a favorable evaluation.

Would you happen to have that article to share with the rest of BR?   8-)

fishing user avatarspropro reply :

I too was at aBPS store to day trying out rods and liked the Carbolite rods. Very light, good feel in the hand, stiff, fast action, good heavy jigging rod.

fishing user avatareyedabassman reply :

I hope they are on sale at the Bass Pro spring Classic! :) :-?

fishing user avatarSWMIBASSER reply :

I don't know if I'm the only one noticing this but some of the new "budget" fishing rods like this one, the Buuco, Vendetta, Tessara, etc have nice light casting rods, but the spinning rods are poorly balanced and much heavier.

Just an observation. People may read reviews of these rods and assume the spinning rods are the same. IMO they are not.

I am looking for a casting rod, so I am good to go! :) I am looking for another jig rod, I just hope the sen. is there.

fishing user avatartylerc reply :

Well

Thanks to this post I wandered over to the local Toronto BPS, just to look at them. I was on the market for a Loomis or St. Croix but after close look at these rods I was really impressed so I bought two of them. These rods were so light cannot wait to try them out. Downfall: 1 year warranty I was told

fishing user avatareyedabassman reply :

The sale on the Carbonlite, is the sale on for all models or just certain models?

fishing user avatarGoose52 reply :

The sale on the Carbonlite rods is over. On thge BPS web site, for about a 24 hour period (probably due to a pricing error), ALL models of the Carbonlite rod were marked down to $69 - that was a $50 markdown on the most expensive models. After that error was discovered, the prices were adjusted to be just $20 off the regular price.

Perhaps they will go back on sale during the Spring Classic...

fishing user avatarJ-B reply :

Ok, here is my review. I gave my 6'6" MH the test today on the lake. I am very happy with the rod. It is incredibly sensitive to say the least. It felt like I barely had a rod in my hands it is so light. Basically..I loved it. Not a single problem with it and it did great when the fish were on. I will be replacing my other rods with the Carbonlite rods soon, even my St Croix rods (only the Triumph versions but the Carbonlite blows them out of the water). The only thing I would like better would be smaller guilds but the ones it has work great.

Thanks for the field test! I think I am sold, now I just have to get one in my hands. I hope they are on sale for the Classic!

I have my 6'9" MH b/c Carbonlite mated w/ a Quantum Tour Edition, the latest one.  You want to talk about a stealthy looking rod that weighs very little...this is the combo!  Everything balances out nicely w/ this setup.

I just had a bit of problem using a $100 rod w/ a $280 reel...neither one seem to care.  I don't think the bass will care either...it's just me that judges it.

I will be looking for a 7 ft. or a 7 1/2 rod for jig fishing. And I will be putting it on a Daiwa Aggrest reel.

fishing user avatarSoFlaBassAddict reply :

I picked one up earlier today.  Nice light rod.  Ultra sensitive.  I just need to get used to the extra fast tip on it for hooksets.  I couldn't complain about it one bit really.  My only gripe is that the hook keeper is mounted on the underside of the rod.  I like mine on the side or on the face of it.

We can't have it all! ;D ;DI can't wait to see the Carbonlite. What averyone is saying ,it sounds like a great rod. I had been thinking about the Mojo, and the Vendetta. I was at Gander today and was looking at the Vendatta, and it was nice and lite. But from what everyone is saying the Carbonlite is evan ligther.

fishing user avatarFishing Rhino reply :

All my rods are BPS.

My only gripe is that the hook keepers will rust.  And the position under the rod isn't the best.

It's not a problem with the Shimano spinning reels or the baitcasters, but with the large spool Johnny Morris spinning reels, the line will on very rare occasions snag the keeper on a cast.

fishing user avatarghost reply :

With the hook keeper rusting, I use clear nail coat/polish to keep it from rusting.  If the keeper is rusted, do you best to sand paper the rust and then apply a coat of nail polish.

I haven't put a Vendetta on a scale, but action for action, the Vendetta is heavier and more rubbery feeling. The Carbonlite is crisp, and more comparable to the high end rods.

Lotsa talk I know...I can't wait for the ice to break!!!!!!!! :);):D :D :D :D

Thanks Paul, I am leaning towards the Carbonlite from what every thing said. But now I may have to take a look at the Kistler Mag.TS. :-/
