Answer: Should be 1 pound per foot.

Answer: the weights are plastic not lead and not heavy at all . No value as a bait net in saltwater ,will sink too slow and bait will laugh at you as they leave free .

Would you recommend this net for mullet?

Answer: No. 3/4" , 1"or larger 1.5" mesh, this net listed is for pilchards or greenbacks/threadfins, i use a 3/4 " custom 1.6lbs lead per foot 15' net for mullet here in sw florida. Remember a 1/4" net has a strech of 3/8 to 1/2"

The mullet this morning were between 4 and 8", two casts into the school and I had bait for 6 guy's all day.... Answer: As far as I can tell they are lead. Any cast net I have ever owned had lead weights if not they would rust and that is not good for a cast net or any net.

Would this be a suitable net that I can rescue injured, but still mobile water birds with ? From shallow water or from the beach.

Answer: Not having had experience with rescuing injured birds, but I can see that the cast net will be effective and good for retrieving injured birds. With practice you will a have a greater reach and range than with long handled scoop nets. I imagine you will find it fun. The cast net should be a least 6 feet in height, and 8 footer would probably be better but you will have to contend with the cast net being heavier.

It says the bottom is taped but does not show tape in the pictures so I am unclear as to whether or not it is taped.

Answer: If I had to guess, I would say no. It works well for greenbacks but I would not target anything smaller. Some greenbacks get gilled on this mesh size.

Bought the 4' net for my 5 year old daughter to teach her how to cast in the saltwater creeks in the Lowcountry of SC. It would be great if she takes to it quickly---- The net looks bulky and it looks like a "Fish"er Price type net at first but then you study it- then- like an Apple product commercial in my mind, form follows function, plastic coatings on the weights and the collar system glide the net through the water with ease and now I'm studying the 12' net for deep hole casting for major shrimp hauls in season.

I bought this net(6 ft. radius) because it states in the description that it's good for catching bait in DEEP water. This is not the case, as the net does not sink fast enough and the bait has an easy chance to get away. While I do not claim to be an expert in throwing this net, I have practiced enough to be adequate. I have thrown some pretty decent casts dead center on peanut bunker, and have come up empty every time. I think the 3/8" mesh size is too small, and there's not enough weight to counter the resistance. This net would probably work fine off the beach in shallow water, but I should have gone with an 8 ft. net with 3/4" mesh for deep water bait. I have given this net a pretty lengthy trial. Unfortunately, I can no longer return it because the return window has closed.

It's a solid net, but the 6ft 3/8 inchm 2.3 kg isnt heavy enough to catch bunker except in very shallow water. It doesnt sink fast enough. This is probably meant for much smaller bait fish.

12-22-19 update
I've used the bait net all year fishing from my kayak, and throwing it from docks, boats, etc . . and it's held up very well with only a couple of holes from shell beds which I fixed. I've used it almost every time I've fished and I keep it in the tub on the back of my kayak. It's been all over Florida this year.
I drilled a bunch of holes in the bottom of the tub so it can drain, and when I fish salt water I rinse it with a hose in the tub, let it drain then I spread it on the driveway to dry. I'm also going to add some foam to the sides of the tub in case it gets dumped from the kayak

Second time using this net the rope snapped off the wristlet. Lost the whole net into the water and was unable to recover. Rope was poorly sewn into the wristlet unfortunately. Worst part was that it was the only bait opportunity we had on a trip that was planned for months. Extremely disappointed group of anglers. Will look for a better quality cast net in the future.

Had so much fun with this last year, I got the 6' and am so glad I did not get bigger, easily managed and I am not young. Watched a man on a boat casting for his charter bait. He was a great teacher and did not even know. Actually had a few fisherMEN tell me I made it look easy.
