Answer: it is surprisingly heavy duty and I do use it for salmon. I fished a five gallon bucket out of the ocean with it. @ 8.6 pounds per gallon thats 43/bs and it actually did it horizontally (should have been lifted vertically). So i was impressed.
Answer: Never caught a salmon, but I think it would be strong enough to land a salmon. I have caught northern pike and it works well for those.

Answer: As far as I know, this is the longest handle made by Ego. It does extend quite as ways out and with a body reach you can scoop a fish maybe 5-6 feet back of boat. It's a good net and I'm happy with mine.

I would have to measure mine, but extends to around 5-6 foot long. Anyone that purchases one of these would be satisfied. A great rubber net as well that hooks don't tangle in.

Answer: You will love the way the handle extends. After a little practice you can do it 1 handed while still holding your rod fighting the fish. Did have a problem with the net coming loose on the threaded end. Added a fair amount of thread tape and it seems to be better. never was afraid of the net falling off. just irritating. Answer: The net worked very well for smaller fish but large grouper (20 lb range) could flip out of it since they are in the 26-30" range. It is the length of the fish that limits the net to ones less than 22".

Purchased this and then went to Minnesota on a fishing trip. The net worked flawlesly. The rubberized net is a plus for lure removal and the fish don't get tangled in it.
We would use the net to haul our fish from the boat up to the fish cleaning house(appox.10-15lb. at a time) and it held up very well.
The handle is comfortable, seems well built and I am happy with the purchase.

Very disappointed in this product. 2 months after the warranty expires the handle failed. The whole thing depends on a small aluminum rivet. Poor design.
UPDATE: I contacted EGO and was informed the handle is glued to the slider not riveted. They didn't hesitate and sent me a new handle. Improved their score but I couldn't give 5 stars because the handle did fail.

After a year of use in saltwater the net still slides, but the latch will not lock it in place anymore. I guess all the parts are not saltwater friendly. The small springs and rivets are rusting and now stuck open.
I will update this review as I venture through their warranty process. So far I find it unusual to close at 4pm EST, but will try calling again tomorrow.

12/13/13: Had a few minutes and tried calling again. Fridays they close at Noon. Must be nice. It's difficult to find time during the work day to track down a company for a fishing net. Sometimes you have to ask if it's worth all the time and energy. Dropping to 1 start for not being available to support warranty issues during reasonable times. At this price point they should be open atleast until 6pm EST to allow people an opportunity to contact them.

12/13/13: Sent an email to customer support. I explained the problem and requested an improved handle that wouldnt corrode.

12/18/13: Received a new handle. This is the 2x stronger handle. I'll make sure to get some salt on it this weekend. Time will only tell if this handle is more salt tollerant. I'm adjusting to 4 stars. While their hours are not very user friendly, they did acknowledge my e-mail request and shipped a replacement handle faster than I expected.

06/24/2016: The locking mechanism failed again and is still not corrosion resistant. The part you can see (little brass dot) gives the impression that the internals are corrosion resistant, but that's just to fool you. Look at the pin, it will rust first, then the spring inside, then the whole thing will stop working.
I also have a good bit of corrosion on the black sliding portion near each hole. It makes sliding very difficult even with treatments (WD40, Lithium grease, Marine waterproof grease, Fluid Film, etc...)
So I thought maybe instead of the EGO floating ($40+) handle I would just use the home improvement store Shur-Line painters handle ($20). They look exactly the same. Same pattern, same grip, same mechanism, doesn't float and is lighter duty..
Bring it home only to find out the EGO thread pattern is thicker by just enough to prevent the other (standard) thread from working.
Ordered another handle. The last one lasted 3.5 years instead of 1 year. I am also fishing more brackish waters which just means a slower death.
Even with these failures, this remains the best net I have found.

So I thought maybe instead of the EGO floating ($40+) handle I would just use the home improvement store Shur-Line painters handle ($20). They look exactly the same. Same pattern, same grip, same mechanism, doesn't float and is lighter duty..
Bring it home only to find out the EGO thread pattern is thicker by just enough to prevent the other (standard) thread from working.
Ordered another handle. The last one lasted 3.5 years instead of 1 year. I am also fishing more brackish waters which just means a slower death.
Even with these failures, this remains the best net I have found.
Works great on the boat. Net slides right out and latches as designed.

You can buy a very similar handle at Lowes in the painting isle. (Edit: the thread is different and will not work)
Con:
The foam on the handle will rip or tear. It is not glued down the entire length of the handle.
After a year of use in saltwater the net still slides, but the latch will not lock it in place anymore. I guess all the parts are not saltwater friendly. The small springs and rivets are rusting and now stuck open.
I will update this review as I venture through their warranty process. So far I find it unusual to close at 4pm EST, but will try calling again tomorrow.
Update:
12/13/13: Had a few minutes and tried calling again. Fridays they close at Noon. Must be nice. It's difficult to find time during the work day to track down a company for a fishing net. Sometimes you have to ask if it's worth all the time and energy. Dropping to 1 start for not being available to support warranty issues during reasonable times. At this price point they should be open atleast until 6pm EST to allow people an opportunity to contact them.

12/13/13: Sent an email to customer support. I explained the problem and requested an improved handle that wouldnt corrode.

12/18/13: Received a new handle. This is the 2x stronger handle. I'll make sure to get some salt on it this weekend. Time will only tell if this handle is more salt tollerant. I'm adjusting to 4 stars. While their hours are not very user friendly, they did acknowledge my e-mail request and shipped a replacement handle faster than I expected.
Update:
06/24/2016: The locking mechanism failed again and is still not corrosion resistant. The part you can see (little brass dot) gives the impression that the internals are corrosion resistant, but that's just to fool you. Look at the pin, it will rust first, then the spring inside, then the whole thing will stop working.
I also have a good bit of corrosion on the black sliding portion near each hole. It makes sliding very difficult even with treatments (WD40, Lithium grease, Marine waterproof grease, Fluid Film, etc...)

Phenomenal net. Saves space on your boat. More importantly the rubberized net protects fish and makes for easy hook removal. Clean inside and outside slide occasionally with WD-40 and a cloth for continued smooth movement. Keep in mind this nets extended reach may help rescue a man overboard!

Super net. Maybe slightly heavy, but it works well. Can get a little pinch if your hand isn't positioned properly, but after a few times you learn not to do that. Doesn't take nearly the time to get the lure out of the net as my old style. Would buy another.

Well proportioned and easy to handle. The hand[e extends in opposite direction from the center, really cool. The white/clear rubber net seems less visible to fish than the black rubber nets, the fish seem a little less net shy. It has a strong hoop and a adequate basket depth. I be happier if it were about 10" deeper. When the fish are in the net they appear to "unhook" themselves

Very disappointed in this product. 2 months after the warranty expires the handle failed. The whole thing depends on a small aluminum rivet. Poor design.
UPDATE: I contacted EGO and was informed the handle is glued to the slider not riveted. They didn't hesitate and sent me a new handle. Improved their score but I couldn't give 5 stars because the handle did fail.

Very good quality net...and slidding system makes landing fish a breeze..the last and only net you will ever need..the thing ive experience is if dropped near the surf..the fine shell particle will stay inside between the slidding parts. And will scratch up the parts when sliding. Solution flush it real good before use over all excellent net

It is hard to review this item as far as durability as I have not had much chance to use it. The net itself is nice and will accommodate large fish. With the handle fully extended it is a little heavy but is built very sturdy. Overall a very nice landing net.

This is the best net I have ever used.the telescoping handle is solid.It locks in place. the net is nice to the fishes.I also find that hooks do not get caught in it. I have netted fish up to 10 lbs with no issues at all.

First off, the net I received was the blue kryptek version and not the standard red and black I expected. Not really an issue but the description just isn’t accurate. I bought this net as a replacement for one I had stolen out of my truck. I used the old net for several months and loved it; it easily handled speckled trout, flounder and redfish. That said, my old net was the PVC coated mesh and this is the rubber coated nylon. Do not waste your time buying this model; the netting is no gentler on fish or less likely to tangle than a standard nylon net. As soon as this arrived and I saw it I ordered a replacement PVC net for it.

I do a lot of fishing in the PNW in the lakes. I target, landlocked silvers, kokanee and trout. This is the perfect net for landing these fish especially since I can extend the net and grab them before the boat side freak out. This net is rock solid, for my boat use. The net size I bought wouldn't be the best for landing larger fish but hey, I can just buy the larger net attachment. very versatile, you will not be sad with this net! Tight Lines!
