I filled 6 trays of not so thick apple slices but it is still soft after 15 hours. Is this normal or my machine is defective?

Answer: I think the machine may be defective, when I dehydrate jerky, usually with in 10 to 12 hrs my jerky is crispy (I like my jerky crispy). I had 2 nescos and both broke down the heater fan didn't work, I returned the 2nd one

Answer: Our unit does apple slices about 3/16 in thick in about 4 to 5 hours.

Answer: Depends on what temp you used. I can make jerky from ground meat in 4 hours. Did you rotate the trays every hour? That makes a big difference too.

Answer: I read that using 6 trays slows down the drying speed...logical. Most of the time I dry my fruit for a whole day...also...maybe turn the heat up a bit?

Answer: I amnot sure , i only do meat for jerky.but i would think that should be long enough to get the water out.

Can this be used in 240v power outlet?

How is the noise? I am borrowing and excalibur and it is quite noisy.

Answer: It depends what you consider loud, there is a hum from the fan which I don’t mind. It’s as loud as your refrigerator running. It is still a good little dehydrator and not as expensive as an Excalibur.

Answer: It is fairly quiet. You know it is running but it would not interfere with normal conversation, watching TV or most anything. The noise is constant and without variation so easy to get use to and ignore. I live in an open plan row home. I use it all the time without it being a distraction or problem.

Answer: The sound is comparable to putting your car fan on medium, but relative to size (about a footstool), it is hardly noticeable.

what is the maximum number of trays recommended for this particular dehydrator?

Answer: 6 but I recommended "0" we had to send it back. It never got through the 2nd try! Very, very disappointing. We bought a "Presto" next, it is well past a dozen six tray jerky cookings and still is flawless!!!

Answer: We are using 8 trays and successfully are able to dehydrate fruits and nuts. NESCO is the best dehydrator we have ever owned.

Answer: It can hold 8 trays.
