Questions about Little Red Cap Contractor Pack Caulk Saving Cap, Red (Pack of 35) (LRC.50) (Original Version)
Q:
It would seem like, for longer periods, it would still work best to put a nail in the tip before putting this on...any thoughts?
Answer: The nail will temporarily work for you, but air will still get in and harden the caulk. The Red caps provide a secure seal and are easy to remove and reuse.
Answer: I am an electrician, I use clear silicone occasionally. I was always throwing away partially used tubes. These babies really work all by themselves, no need for a nail, or a wire nut or duct tape. I've used the same tube for months now, just a dab every couple of weeks. I'm sold on them. I've actually given more away than I have used myself because they are reusable
Answer: nails tend to build up rust as a chemical reaction from caulk thats why i bought these sometimes you can reuse them if you are careful taking them on and off i usually use them once or twice my only request would be that they come in larger pkg maybe 500 in a pack so far these are the best for caulking tubes
Answer: I don't think a nail would make a better seal and it just may introduce air that might make it worse. The trick is to make a good seal and keep all of the air out. I wipe off the spout and squeeze out about half a drop of fresh caulk and then roll on the red cap. I have had some tubes of Dap 230 and Alex plus that I sealed with the red caps over a year ago that were ready to go after rolling the red cap off.
Answer: That would work the best.
Answer: If you're sealing latex caulk, the nail may rust and discolor the caulk. The jury is still out with me and this product.
Answer: As tight as these fit, I'd prefer the cap to the nail.
Q:
how are they packaged in this offer from Amazon? Other listings show a plastic box.
Answer: The one that I purchased came in a little round plastic box, 35 count. I also must say, THEY WORK GREAT!
Answer: They are packaged in a little round plastic container - very convenient and easy to stow.
Answer: They come in a small round plastic container. It's a little larger than a tin of shoe polish. They're well worth the money. I've saved tubes of Simpson strong tie epoxy, liquid nails, silicone and poly caulk for weeks and months with these.
Answer: A small round plastic box for convenient storage.
Q:
Are these meant for ~10 oz. cartridges only? Or will they also fit on "quart"-sized (29 oz.) cartridges?
Answer: They will also fit the 29 oz cartridges as well.
Answer: They are a one size fits all product. I use them on the big cartridges.
Answer: I have never used them on the larger tube but I believe they will work just fine.
Answer: Yes. They will fit on any size cartridge. The only thing that matters is the size of the nozzle. Note that if you cut a very large opening in a nozzle (3/8ths or larger) the caps can be a little harder to put on - otherwise they work well on just about anything.
Answer: They will fit the quart size
Answer: Probably, they stretch out. If it will fit in a caulk gun then I would say yes ?
Answer: I've used them on both, there is plenty of stretch, and with a little care they are good for many tubes over time
Answer: Although I have not tried the larger tubes, these caps seem to have enough stretch to seal them properly.
Answer: I have only used it on 10 oz, and they have worked well. Putting it on a 29 oz might be stretching to far for an air tight seal.
Answer: They're stretchable and fit on both. They don't work for me though. The DAP Caps do work well, especially if you squirt some goop into the cap before shoving the nozzle in, so as to make a broad sealing surface between the nozzle and the cap.
Answer: They fit on most of the cartages I have used, as well as glue bottles. In my opinion they are great. But I feel they are somewhat expensive for what you get.
Answer: They will fit on both. Check the price now, they have gone down in price. They can be used over and over again.
Answer: I am not sure. But I assume that they would.
Q:
Does it work for silicone RTV (which is very hard to seal unless the tube has a snap on cap)?
Answer: Yes, if it is in a caulking type tube. It wouldn't work if you buy it in the smaller metal squeeze tubes.
Answer: Yes. I've sealed RTV for over a month using these caps.
Q:

Q:
How much does the item weigh? It says 10 pounds, is this correct???
Answer: That must be a misprint. The container is similar in size to a round breath mint container. I would think much closer to 10 ounces rather than pounds.
Answer: 10# is wrong. it weight almost nothing. just a small rubber sleeve which rolls over the open end of the caulk tube.
Answer: Amazon site says .07 pounds so it is very light. All 35 caps in the plastic container weight less than one AA battery.
Answer: No. It's a small, round plastic container that holds the red caps. A few ounces, at most. Unless you buy them by the dozens, it's not a 10-lb shipment.
Answer: It doesn't even weigh 10oz.
Answer: Less than 1/4 of a pound
Answer: Same answer as 1972mgb. Container a few ounces at most.
Q:
Can these little caps be reused? Or is each cap a one-time use kind of thing?
Answer: Yes they can, pretty sturdy so they can be reused until they crack or get a hole, which doesn't happen easily. Like a rubber band, they will crack with time though.
Answer: Frirst off these things are great. I own and operate a remodeling company. We use these on every tube of caulk that we don't finish. They can be reused until you finish the tube. We keep a pack in every van. Worth every penny!
Answer: yes they are reusable however products like Liquid Nails does dry and make it hard to pull the "red cap" off to reuse.. but that's after the tube sits for over a few weeks!
Answer: Yes, they unroll on the tube and roll back up to take them off. Reuse will be limited by time, rather than number of uses, as they deteriorate over time, crack and fall apart. Still a great way to seal a tube, just not for long time storage.
Answer: I use multiple times. Key is to make sure the tip is basically clean before placing on for best long term use
Answer: I am re-using them as they seem sturdy enough and should be able to get multiple uses out of each one with minimal care.
Answer: Yes. It's best if you wipe off the tube nozzle first.
Product reviews of Little Red Cap Contractor Pack Caulk Saving Cap, Red (Pack of 35) (LRC.50) (Original Version)
L.A. Daddy : Probably work, just not yet for me
Not sure if these don't work very well or it's the caulk I'm using but each time I subsequently go to use this caulk, it's dried up all throughout the nozzle. I'm going to go with the caulk being the issue since it's an eco type that's not normal (Eco-Bond). Because I can't imagine these little suckers not working unless they've got holes in them. They seem to create a pretty airtight seal. Maybe I need to insert a nail first as others have recommended. Perfect for caulk tubes and the like.
BCG2012 : Could be better.
I had high expectations for keeping caulk tubes for drying out. Using these are better than nothing but some drying still occurs. Also if you unravel the entire thing, you can’t reuse them and seems like a waste.
Mutt : Keeps my tubes for a month or more.
Easier and cleaner than nails or screws, and better than tape. Everyone I show them to has bought a pack.
Bchaseski : Great!
These little red caps are fantastic. No more nails in the end of my caulk. I have used the same one over and over again on various caulking projects over the past two months and it's still going strong. I figured it was a use it once and replace it but that's not the case. I couldn't be more impressed with how much 'cleaner' it makes storage of various tubes of caulk and builders adhesives!
JOE C : Looks like they work.
Having tired of the nail and tape approach, I gave these a try. So far (over two weeks on an opened caulking tube), it appears that these caps will do the job. However, they do not work on a squeeze tube of caulking since the fit is not as snug as necessary, mainly because the cap doesn't cover enough surface. Do be careful not to pull the caps down too firmly because they are rather thin and may tear.
UPDATE April 9, 2014. They do indeed work, and well. Just removed one from a tube of caulking that has been "closed" for over two months. No hardening whatsoever. Caulk came out just as it did when first used. In my experience, this is a must-have for do-it-yourselfers.
Kayla M. : Great covers!
These are great for caulk! I can reuse them and they take only a second to put on/take off.
I did have some drying in my Lexel tube however. The tube was partially hardened, but the screw was keeping it going. I stopped using the screw and started using this and it clogged up quickly.
ChillKodama : Lifesaver
I love these things. I always end up with half-used caulking tubes and this is the best solution to keeping them from drying out. They work much better than putting a screw in the end, or trying to cover the end with plastic. Also very easy to put on and take off when you need it next.
John Schaben : Good buy
These things are pretty neat. Do the job very nicely and at about 35 cents apiece wont take long to pay for themselves given all the partial tubes of adhesives, caulks and sealants I've had to trash over the years. The idea isn't new by any means but the application is unique. My Dad told me that they used to cover the rifle muzzles in WWII with condoms to keep dirt and mud from jamming the weapon and this is a very similar issue, keeping air from contaminating the tube contents.
E. Sikorski : Saves money on caulk - worth the price after using only a few!
This has helped me save many tubes of caulk. It is so much better than the plastic red cap/tooling device I bought at HD. The caulk stays flexible and easy to restart. Just pushing the metal rod on your caulk gun through the end a few times is enough to get it going again. In fact, most tubes usually start right up without even having to do that. I have had tubes sit in the basement for well over 6 months and still work fine. These are reusable as well...as long as you don't get too much wet caulk on them. Definitely a must for everyone's tool bench/box.
Saliandra : The best condom for your caulk! Seriously, these work great!
These little covers are so great! I have had them on several tubes of caulk, some of which I placed over a year ago. The caulk is still soft and pliable and easy to work with. Yep - with these little red condoms, you want your caulk to remain soft, haha!
Mark's Amazon : Great product, I HIGHLY recommend them.
These caulk condoms are great and they really beat other options I've tried.
PROS
They are generally reusable and keep most of my unused caulk and construction adhesive tubes ready for months but I prefer a nail with a red cap/condom over it for best results. The nail allows more penetration into the tip IN CASE it happens to dry out and extends the caulks reusable life span.
CONS
They don't hold up long enough with polyurethane construction adhesives as they deteriorate and crumble the caps and the adhesives dry out however using a nail helps extend the caps life greatly. For construction adhesives, I use two caps with a nail with much better results.
The caps need to be resistant to more chemicals.
VLR : Best Caulk-Saving Caps!
I bought these so I could save opened caulk from drying out and they are amazing! All you have to do is unroll them down on the tip - sort of like a condom (sorry, I'm blushing now, but it's true) and they work like a charm. No more wasted caulk! I found out about these from the professional painters I hired to paint my house last summer and they swear by them. It's hard to tell from the picture how they work; that's why I kind of had to leave a graphic description. I hope this review helps! Thanks for reading.
Tal A. : Cheaper than any other solution out there
This things are great!
I won't say they're sealing 100% but they seal good enough. My tubes last much longer now than just wrapping the tips with a masking tape.
You'll still need to run in a rod to clean any clogs but it's noticibly fresher. As long as you don't puncture them and when removing rolling all the way to original shape, they would last for more than one tube.
C. Dodge : The protection you need for your caulk
I love these little caulk condoms. Now my caulk always wears protection. Once you roll it on, you need to sqeeze a little bit out of the tip of your caulk to ensure a proper seal.
Beware, choking hazard.
p.s., they melt in the Houston heat if left in an outdoor shed without a/c. When properly stored, I've found that my caulk is still good to go even after months of non-use. They are also reusable, have never had a tear
T H. : simple and reasonably effective
A nice quick way to seal an open caulk tube for later re-use. Probably would not last forever, but neither does an unopened tube.
BCG2012 : Could be better.
I had high expectations for keeping caulk tubes for drying out. Using these are better than nothing but some drying still occurs. Also if you unravel the entire thing, you can’t reuse them and seems like a waste.

guyhms : Good stuff! All DIY's should have this product in ...
Good stuff! All DIY's should have this product in their workshop. We all use Caulking, but most of the time…we have some left-over…to dry in the tube. (Because we plugged the opening with a nail, or a piece of wood or whatever). This creates a long…er seal for our left-over. I have re-used mine 3 or 4 time each at least.
An other good innovation.
Grand House : I still use them, but I'm still searching for a better option.
I'm a remodeler by trade and I have used these for a while now, they are just ok. They are by no means a perfect solution to the problem of keeping a tube of caulk fresh. I am usually trying to extend the life of a tube by a few days to a week or so until I use it again. It seems to be hit or miss if they work. They also tear easily when bouncing around in a truck. I still use them, but I'm still searching for a better option.
Jeff Geerling : Elegant solution to an annoying problem!
I've tried many different things to preserve the tips of my caulk tubes from hardening, leaking, or completely clogging (thus wasting a tube of caulk or glue!). These little caps are deceptively simple, but work very well. I've used them on a few tubes now, and they work better than duct tape or cellophane.
I've tested these with Alex Plus, Liquid Nails, and standard white latex caulk, and the next time I've used the caulk, it came out easily. Just make sure you clean the tip of the caulk tube after you're finished using it, and put on the little red cap fully.

Lowry : Caulk condoms!
This is one of the best things I have purchased and saves money on wasted caulking.
On suggestion change the name to what it is!
Caulk condoms!
melinda b ramsey : Simple effective solution.
My dad had a pack of these for a number of years. They do work better and are easier than anything else I had ever used. He always just said you can find them in any hardware store. Well you can't, and it took a while to figure out the name of these things. I have been very happy with the quality and ease of use, and have seen them in use for many years before I purchase. Often I can use a cap more than once so I would think a typical home owner would only have to buy a value pack like this once in a very long while.
BCG2012 : Could be better.
I had high expectations for keeping caulk tubes for drying out. Using these are better than nothing but some drying still occurs. Also if you unravel the entire thing, you can’t reuse them and seems like a waste.
kindle reader : Highly recommend!!
I didn't even know anything like this existed until it popped up on my screen while I was shopping for something else. Ordered them because I had just ordered industrial adhesive and had no way to seal it after I used it. These are amazing, I haven't used the adhesive yet be cause of all the rain we have had, but I tried one on a small bottle of glue that was always drying in the cap and clogging the nozzle. It works great. No more drying glue and no more clogging. I love it!!!
Mark's Amazon : Great product, I HIGHLY recommend them.

milmac : These are AMAZING! No more discarding partial tubes of caulk
These are fantastic! Over the years, I've tried many different products that claim to keep caulk from drying up in the tube after it's opened.
These actually work.
Other products I've used in the past keep caulk soft for a month or two, at most. I recently re-used a tube of caulk that I had sealed up with a Little Red Cap OVER A YEAR AGO and the caulk was just as soft, smooth, and free-flowing as the day I opened it -- just like using a brand-new tube.
DAJSATX : These are great!
Way better than the yellow stick inserts. These work very well on standard caulk tubes and will also stretch over larger, irregular shaped tube ends. I’m glad I tried these.
Florida Bourne : Indispensable
Great product for your caulking tube and will keep your male cat from impregnating the the neighborhood
Livin' the Dream : Optimum way to reseal caulk tubes
These “caulk condoms” are the easiest and best way to reseal your tubes.
Thomasj106 : Simple but ingenious idea.
These caps are really a very good idea. They beat "the screw in the end of the nozzle" trick any day. Even the snap on caps that come with some caulks don't seal out air as well as these do. Caulks last so much longer when the air can't get to them. I have been using these since I first saw them on the market maybe 7-8 years ago. Buying them here was easy and they were shipped to me fast.
Steve : Best reseal device, ever. A must-buy.
Single best produxt to reseal partial tubes of any caulk-gun type, tubed glue or caulk. I've had caulk stored for six months, be perfect as new. A MUST-BUY. Better than ANY other re-seal device, bar none!
Oakley24 : Multiple uses, and these just work
After trying a million ways to save caulk, adhesives, glue, etc, I have finally found the solution. There is nothing more frustrating than having to buy more caulk, even though you have 3/4 of a tube that was used only 3 months before.
These little rubber caps work really well. I have not had them break as others have, they seem to be thick enough to handle the angled tip that I usually cut on caulk tubes. And after 6 weeks, I took this cap off and my caulk was as fresh as the day I opened it. Hopefully, it will stay that way for longer, but I haven't had the chance to test longevity yet.
I also use them for my air tools, since most of the plastic caps that came with them are broken or have disappeared. Also on my glue bottles, even though they close pretty tightly, I think this keeps air out completely. And I keep looking for more ways to take advantage of this ingenious product.
Wayne S. Helfrich : Fantastic Product
Fantastic product
Don't know why I haven't been using these for years.
xcalibur12 : Just made my second order....
Very often, simple is better. These caps are extremely simple to use and they do the trick. Try not to pull them down too tight, if you have cut a sharp point on your caulk tube, as you can puncture them. Other than that, they are simple and quite effective. I highly recommend.
Hculbert : Great as a cap for air tools
I did buy this on a friend's recommendation as a cap for keeping dirt out of air tools. It will, however, also serve me well in keeping partial tubes of caulk and adhesive! They are doing the job for the air tools. I'll have to see in a month or two when I go to use a partial tube of caulk. I'll also be interested to see how long the rubber remains good on the air tools.
Rev357 : I've uncapped one of these a month later and been able to get a good flow of caulk without having to mess around
Where have these been all my life!? I've used painters tape for years in order to try to get more than one use out of a caulk cartridge, with mixed success. These little caulk condoms have been very helpful. Spread your caulk, slip one on, push a bit more caulk into the tip to get a seal, and then put it away. I've uncapped one of these a month later and been able to get a good flow of caulk without having to mess around.
J. Smith : Work great
A simple little item that saves a lot of caulk. I had been using other caulk tube sealers, most of them that go inside the spout. That style usually causes the spout to split and you loose the seal. Others that go over the spout are made of hard plastic and don't seal well. These are soft, like rubber, and stretch tightly over the spout. They could be used to seal many other things as well.
Jimbone : A great product and at an unbeatable price.
I read about this product in the Family Handyman. It's simple and yet innovative. Makes you wonder. Damn why didn't I think of this. As a DIY, I've tried lots of things to seal a half used caulk tube. Screws, plastic and rubber bands, plumber's putty. The plumber's putty actually got me about 90% success in reusing these caulk tubes. But now with these Little Red Cap I'm never going back. Bluntly put they work like a condom. Sealing out all air and moisture. Reusing can be tricky as sometimes they lose their elasticity or shape and can be challenging putting them back onto the caulk tube's end. I guess pretty much like a real condom which you shouldn't reuse, right?
Roger : Great product
These simply work and what a great invention. They fit very snugly around the tip of an open caulk tube. I've had these on a tube for nearly 2 years and the content was still fresh. This is a second package I ordered for use at our winter home.
BU Engineering Grad : Great glue saver
I do a bit of woodworking. Seems like every time I start a project, I have to clean the glue tip from what dried up last time. These has caused me to nearly destroy a few glue bottle tips. I was considering buying one of those specialty glue bottle until I found these. They work great and some the problem. No need to transfer glue to a special bottle which would probably had the same issue.

Mark's Amazon : Awesome Caulk Caps, almost perfect
Awesome little caulk tube condoms! They work great but using a nail and then covering it with the red cap condom is the best solution I have found!
My only problem with these is that polyurethane type construction adhesives eat through the red caps and then dries out. My solution for construction adhesives is to use a nail and use two caulk caps. They are longer than necessary and a sharp caulk tube tip can puncture them during storage.
Please make caps to resist poly chemicals.

I had high expectations for keeping caulk tubes for drying out. Using these are better than nothing but some drying still occurs. Also if you unravel the entire thing, you can’t reuse them and seems like a waste.
you can compare the product price from Costco, wayfair, bestbuy, lowes, target, homedepot, Walmart, ebay, amazon to find the best price for you
