Tips

Bubblie : Mini bag sealer with rechargeable battery

Great little electric rechargeable sealer. I’ve gotten a couple of others in the last year that worked really well. I gave one to my friend and misplaced the other, so I got this as a replacement for myself.

Little magnetic strip makes this easy to stick on the refrigerator when not in use. Keeping it away from other items also means nothing will accidentally press the on/off button to set this off unintentionally in a drawer.

What this sealer does better than the other one I’ve had is the quick heat up time. Once the little white button has been pressed, the blue light turns on and it’s just a matter of pinching the plastic bag between the heating element and running this along the edge of the bag to seal. I usually like to create two sealing lines just to make sure the bag doesn’t come apart, in case I didn’t run it at a consistent speed and certain parts are not completely sealed.

How quickly you run the plastic bag through this will determine how well it seals. For thinner plastic, run through quickly so the heat doesn’t burn through the plastic. For thicker plastic, run it slowly so the heat penetrates and seal the thick layers. Most frozen food bags are quite thin, so I usually run it through pretty quickly. The nail strips I use come in thick plastic, so if I don’t use it all up once I open the packet, I always reseal them so they don’t dry out. That plastic material is thicker and I usually run over the layers very slowly to ensure a tight seal. It just takes a couple of practice runs to get the hang of it.
