Questions about SHIMANO Sienna FE Spinning Reel
Q:
Will the 4000 be a good match for an 8 ft ugly stick bigwater rod? can i use 40 lb braid for this combo?
Answer: That's the exact set-up I use for stripers and rock-fishing in CA. It's a good cheap rig (both rod and reel), but def decent quality for the price. The 4000 will give you plenty of room with 30 or 40 lb braided line without spooling out if you hook into a big one. It's not a Stradic Ci4, but still a great quality reel. Just don't forget to hose it down when you get home if fishing saltwater....
Answer: Not sure, I have a Shimano Symetre 4000 on my 8'6" Shimano Clarus 2 pc salmon rod, which balances out really well. I looked up the 8ft Ugly stick bigwater rod, and you might be looking for a slightly larger reel.
Answer: I use it with a 6' 6" medium action rod and 30# braid for pike. Works well.
Q:
Where it made ?
Answer: This reel is made in the Shimano factory in Malaysia
Answer: Head quarters is in Japan, plants are in China!
Q:
Ive been looking and cant find the answer so i guess ill just ask.. what the max braid lb i can use on the 4000se i jist recieved?
Answer: The specs don't call out the braided line but do call out 'POWER PRO LINE' which states 50 lb. test at 150 yds.......hope that helps a little bit.
Answer: Sorry, I bought it to someone else. I don't know
Q:
What is the line capacity of the 1000 model?
Answer: Been fishing with 1000 and 2500 series shimano reels for 30 years and discovered 4lb is the max I use with the 1000 series and 8 lbs with the 2500 series. No unraveling takes place with those maximums.
Q:
Is there any grinding
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: No it's an excellent reel. Smooth!!
Answer: no
Q:
What rod did you pair with the 1000 reel?
Answer: i purchased the 3000 or 4000...they r bigger reels for 7' + rods. i m a bigger guy (6'-6" - 270) so the 1000 i use on 4' to 5' ultra light trout rods........hope it helps
Answer: This is a smaller reel so I put it on a St. Croix 6'6"ultra-lite rod. Great for trout and pan fish using 4 Lb. test line.
Answer: 6 ft ultra light
Answer: A 6'6" ugly stick
Answer: was gift
Q:
How many ball bearings in this reel?
Answer: 3 i believe
Q:
whats the line capacity on the 4000 model, can it be used for 5-15lbs channel cats?
Answer: Yes
Q:
would this be a good match for a 7' medium ugly stick , catching 10-20- lb stripers with 20lb test?
Answer: Interestingly, I have several of these reels, rigged on the ugly stick. I use 50# braid and routinely catch 8-12lb reds in the Texas surf.
Answer: Yes It,s a very good reel soft and pour.
Answer: Absolutely not, why to light
Q:
Is it a 4 bearing system?
Answer: I do not have that info
Q:
what material is the spool made off..?
Answer: It's not plastic, some sort of metal. Pretty sturdy and reliable. Owned the previous version for about a decade now and its still going strong.
Q:
Do you think you can handel a 20lb striper
Answer: Yes........but it would mainly depend on reel size and line lb. test.
Q:
Does this reel come in a box or clamshell
Answer: It came in a box.
Answer: Varies, depends on whose selling them. I ordered two from different venders and one came in a box and the other in a clamshell
Answer: Box
Answer: Clamshell.
Q:
Just inherited a shimano spinning real is the r4000 the size? and the ax4000 the model. please help
Answer: The reel has the size on the side of the reel. The 4000 is a large reel. The reels normally start with 1000, the smallest, up through 5000, the largest. The size of the reel determines the length of the line and the weight of the line
Answer: Apx4000 is the model
Answer: 4000 is the size, typical shimano's biggest reel, however certain spinner reels comes bigger in sizes ranging from 4500-6500.
Q:
hi, where are these made in? thanks!
Answer: Japan. I fish Shimano reels almost exclusively and this reel is definitely worth the money.
Answer: Malaysia
Answer: Malaysia
Q:
is the handle hard plastic or grippy rubber?
Answer: Plastic, no rubber
Answer: Plastic
Q:
What is the line capacity of the 4000 model?
Answer: mono - 8/240, 10/200, 12/160
Q:
Would any of these be good for handling catfish? or anything heavier? (newer to fishing and looking to replace the stock reel on my ugly stick)
Answer: I use mine for bass & white perch fishing. Have caught a couple of catfish on crank baits with this reel. Catfish and larger fish will give you a pretty good battle. I think they are good little reels
Answer: that is a higher number for bigger fish
Q:
Would this reel be a good match for a 6 or 6'6 ultra light pole
Answer: The 500 size is a better fit for ulta-light setup. The 1000 size is better for medium-light to medium rods.
Answer: For the 1000-3000 size absolutely! 4000 size I would use a 7ft med/med heavy action pole.
Answer: Yes, that's what fishing rods I use mine on...with 6 lbe test line....can use 4 lbs
Answer: yes that is what the 1000 series is for
Q:
Does the 2500FE work well with uglystik gx2 and kastking 10lb 327Yds braided line for freshwater fishing?
Answer: Yes that would be a nice combo. The 2500FE size would go well with a medium power uglystik rod. If you are looking for a light-weight setup for smaller fish, then the 1000 size reel would pair well with a light power uglystik.
Answer: It'll work fine, 327 yrds of braid is a lot. Not sure if the 2500 series will hold that much line capcity but give it a shot.
Answer: I use beaded line for bass
Answer: Yes.
Q:
Should i build my own combo with the sienna fe or buy the ready made pflueger trion gx-7 set up? just want to have fun with bluegills in a pond.
Answer: Pflueger setup is a good product for fishing. I use fenwick & st. Croix rods with shimano reels.......but I do a lot of sport fishing (Bass, Northerns, Walleyes). Catch & release only.
Q:
Would the 1000 reel be a good match for a 6 or 6'6 ultra lite rod
Answer: I bought this reel for my 7 foot ultra lite rod and it is a perfect match for it. Just the right size and i run 4 pound test for pan fish but i have caught bass up to 4 lbs. and the drag is smooth so i was able to land them.
Answer: I use mine on a 6' ultra light - so for me it's a good match.
Answer: Yes, it makes a nice lite weight rig
Q:
What pound test will the 2500 hold
Answer: 8lb test at 140yrds
Q:
Hi, is there any difference between this and the clamshell version other than the packaging?
Answer: No
Q:
I would like to use the 1000 on a short medium action rod for my young daughter, any idea how much 10 lb mono line I could get on it?
Answer: While the 1000 sized reels are generally used with lighter lines, I would guess that the reel would hold somewhat less than 100 yards of 10 lb mono...maybe 80 or 90 yards?? Get a 100 yard spool of line and fill the reel til you reach about 1/8" from the lip, then test cast a few time to make sure you have not overfilled and get a tangle coming off the spool.
Q:
Can 15lb .015 diameter line be used with the 1000fe?
Answer: the 1000 is a small spool. I usually use the 3000 or 4000 for line the thick. The 2000 I believe c states it can hold up to 12 lbs test........don't quote me on that but its 10 or 12 lbs test , so that should give you an idea. Hope this helped.
Answer: I would use the 2500 for that size line. I use my 1000 with 6# line and a 2500 with 8# and another with 10#.
Answer: Yes are used up to 20 pound PowerPro
Q:
How many yards of 12-pound test will it hold.
Answer: The test and yds. should be labeled on the spool part of the reel. It give 3 or 4 variations of lb. test and yds. amount of what the reel can hold and handle.
Q:
How long is the mounting foot?
Answer: Just shy of 2.5"
Q:
Is the 1000 consider a micro?
Answer: No,not a micro at all, medium sized reel, used this size Shimano for over 30 years, use it for snook and red fish, great reel, very strong
Q:
What size and rod combo is good for carp
Answer: I think the reel size I responded to was a 2500 series reel and it works great for small to medium size catfish just fine! I guess for Carp it depends on the size of the fish! Maybe a 4000 or even a 5000 size reel and the appropriate size and length heavy to medium heavy action rod?
Answer: That depends on the style of fishing you prefer. If you enjoy finesse, then a medium to medium heavy rod 7' - 7'.6" fits that style. I.e. A sienna 2500 spooled with 10-12lb test pairs up well for that style. For heavy duty, I'd go with heavy 6' - 6'.6" rods with a sienna 3000 - 4000 series 17-25lb test. Casting distant isn't much of factory as most carps swim in the shallows. Catfish n carp would be able to describe this better than I would. Find his channel on youtube. It's all subjective so whatever you feel comfortable with, but thats my style of fishin for carps.
Q:
What is the gear ratio of the 4000 size reel?
Answer: Gear 5.0:1
Q:
I have a 7 ft. medium heavy daiwa harrier rod for inshore saltwater fishing. what reel would be best for this rod? again used for saltwater.
Answer: You will need to use a saltwater reel.....I would go with a 3000 (or 30 - depends on brand) or 4000 (or 40 depends on brand) for size with a 7 ft rod..........I believe a 2500 (or 25) would be a little to small
Q:
hello the shimano sienna 4000fe is it good for inshore saltwater or beach spinning becouse it have just 1+ ball bearings and 5.2.1 GR . thanks
Answer: I've fished the 2500 size sienna in the surf for speckled trout, redfish, big snook, and tarpon up to 35lbs. No problems. Don't set it in the sand and you're good. Easy to break all the way down to regrease/oil/clean as well. Absolutely awesome reels for the $$.
Answer: I would call this reel 'strictly fresh water' but you could try it. I would not.
Answer: Best for light freshwater
Q:
How much does the 2500 weigh in comparison to the 4000
Answer: 2500 is 8.4oz and 4000 is 11.5oz, I just weighed them
Answer: The 2500 is 9.2oz and 4000 is 11.8 oz
Q:
How much line can fit on the reel
Answer: It depends on the size of the reel I.E. 2000, 3000 or 4000. The 2000 usually holds 6 to 10 lb test, 3000 holds 8 to 12 lb test and the 4000 holds 10 to 14 or 16. The yards of line on spool depends on the diameter of the line........ hope that helps. If you can get a close up picture of the spool itself it will say what ranges of test and diameter it allows on the side of the spool. Thanks.
Q:
Is this reel left or right handed? Is the handle on the left or right side?
Answer: Both. You can change any spinning reel to be R or L handed by unscrewing the handle and switching it
Answer: It can be use both right and left hand.
Answer: It is both, you can easily change it from left to right based on your preferences.
Q:
How much line does it hold?
Answer: Depends on line test.
Q:
I have gx250 the handle broke how can get another on
Answer: I've seen some on Ebay, otherwise contacting Shimano customer services. Direct from Shimano is often more expensive.
Answer: If I can
Q:
Is the 4000 model fine for an ugly stick gx2 6’6 ft rod
Answer: I fit the 2500 to my 7’ gx2, I’m sure the 4000 will work as well. I own 2 of the last model siennas in 4000 size. Great reels. I say go for it if you need the extra line capacity of the 4000, if not, the 2500 will handle a lot of abuse
Answer: It will be fine. I have a 2500 on my 6'2 rod and works great. Awesome reel for the money
Answer: I put a 2500 on that rod..my son loves it. Fit, feel and look all good.
Q:
Which size is the best for bass fishing with a 6’6 ft rod
Answer: It’s more about the line. This reel size is good up to 8lb mono or flourocarbon. 6’-6” rod is fine with a 2500 series reel with 8lb test line.
Answer: 2500 series will work really good.
Q:
Which model is best for a 7 foot pole?
Answer: Shimano is my favorite reel. I do a lot of freshwater sport fishing (Bass, Northern, Walleye) Catch & release only.
Q:
Would you tell me which size of Sienna reel perfect for 7’ ultralight rod?
Answer: It depends on what you mean by ultra light? 1000 series reels are considered ultralight by most fishermen but, this size reel limits you to small or light line and a low line capacity. I use a 1000 series on an ultra light rod with 4 lb. test for crappie and bluegill fishing using lures in the 1/32 to 1/8 oz. range.
Answer: The 1000 size reel: SN1000FE
Answer: I would prefer the smaller of the two reels. Pretty sure that is the 1000.
Answer: Go with the newer sieena model that came out about 4 months ago. Same price newer finish in red. For ultra light application, stick to the 1000/2000 series. If you slightly bump it to light/med light, the 2500 series will suffice as it can hold a few more yards of line capacity.
Answer: Probably the 1000 series. The 2500 would be fine too, but it's a little heavier with a larger line capacity which you likely won't need.
Answer: The medium the medium real not sure the specifications on it
Q:
Does this reel have an anti reverse
Answer: Yes it does have anti reverse, I have two of these fantastic reels, great for my kayak lake fishing, very smooth operation
Q:
hi, where are these made in? thanks!
Answer: Japan. I fish Shimano reels almost exclusively and this reel is definitely worth the money.
Answer: Malaysia
Answer: Malaysia
Q:
Is the spool metal or plastic?
Answer: Not sure. Clearly not normal plastic, seems very tough. I usually get 2-3 seasons of hard surf fishing out of each reel.
Answer: mine is metal, but it's 4 years old.
Answer: Sorry so late on a response........I will look tonite and let you know tomorrow.
Q:
Quiero saber si ese es el precio puesto aca en guatemala o en cuanto saldria puesto aca?
Q:
Is this a 4000fd or an fe model? the pic depicts a fd model but title says it's an fe model.
Answer: The FD model is the one that is older. The picture is the FE model. The FD is more of a Greg and tan color doesn't have black.
Q:
I have a 6’ ugly stick. What’s the best Shimano reel for trout?
Answer: For trout I recommend using an ultra light rod with a 1000 size reel. Keep the line real light, like 4lbs test.
Answer: Any Shimano reel is good for trout. I, personally like the 2500
Q:
which size reel would work best with 2 lb test mono for pan fish but allowing for occasional larger species?
Answer: From Shimano a Sienna front drag in a 500 size would be a decent reel for under $40, a really good option would be a Quantum Accurist size 15 be a little bigger but using 4 or 6lb. line would be great for either.
Answer: 1000 series is best for 2lb because it’s lighter than the 2500 series. You can use the 2500 series for 2lb mono if you want to stay flexible. If you move up to 5lb to 7lb mono I would use the 2500 series.
Answer: The reel will tell you what line wt. to use.
Product reviews of SHIMANO Sienna FE Spinning Reel

Very nice reel this is in my opinion a great option for the money it’s so smooth and has great built quality I got the 4000 series.
James V. Viverette : Best reel
It was the best
SL : Lower quality Sienna
Biggest flaw is the bail arm spring, it's so weak that it can't close to bail arm all the way. I own many other reels in this price range including the older sienna but this ones the worst
remodeler : quality

Tom : Has lasted and I enjoy as much as much more expensive reels
This is a solid reel. Smooth action and works just as good as my much pricier Penn's. Not light and it's a bit larger, but if that's what you need...GREAT value.
thehoganknowsbest : Can't go wrong
This is a great reel for the $$. lightweight and feels very smooth, i was able to spool an entire 150yd box of 8lb power pro on it. The drag is a little weak but not a problem. This is my go-to reel for lake fishing now.

Victor : Best spin reel hands down! You will NOT beat this reel in this price range!
I didn't buy this real online but I did buy one from a local shop in town. I love the reel so much I had to come find it on amazon just to leave a review. This is the best reel I have ever owned. I have no idea how Shimano can sell this reel for only $30 and make a profit. I'll never bother buying another reel again. I own the Shimano Sienna 2500 FE which is the newest model its solid black and grey. It's an amazing reel and worth 3 times what it cost. I've caught over 100 Speckled Trout in south texas in the last 3-4 days on this reel. My biggest trout was over 19" and the fish barely even moved the drag. It reels the fish in so smooth it's unreal. I will be buying more of these reels. I'm planning on selling every reel I own and replacing them all with these. Thanks Shimano! You have a loyal customer for life!

The photo looks larger than it actually is. I should have read and done more research. Very light. I’m sure it’s great for fresh water but not what I needed.
RTP : Excellent reel for the price
Best spinning for the money. You really can't beat this deal for the price. The reel is well designed, well constructed and very stylish. it casts a mile and is very smooth. I purchased 2 of them. I would get a couple of them before the price goes up. I highly recommend this reel.
SDF1 : Wow
Smooth, casts far, and nice drag. I love this reel. Paired it with my 6'6" medium action ugly stik. Perfect match
Ex Longhorn : For crappie fishing
Fit my Ugly Stik light action rod very nicely. Operate very smoothly and stop reverse instantly. I have bought two Shimano Sienna 2500 reels for last 2 years, and are very happy with the performance.
Guillermo M. : Awesome, smooth
