Questions about Daiwa Reels Spinning SS700 Tournament Ss Spinning
Q:
What is the line sizes and capacity ? Is this the same as a TG-700 ?
Answer: Line size capacity for the SS700 is
Q:
How much 6llb line will this reel hold?
Answer: 110 yards????
Q:
Is the handle removeable for foldable for protection, and any comments on only 3 ball bearings per the Daiwa website?
Answer: It does have only 3 bearings, the design hasn't changed in 30 years, but it's still a smooth reel. The handle can be removed, as it is convertible to left or right hand retrieve. For storage, the handle can be folded (built in latch and spring) without removal.
Answer: Handle is foldable and I believe you can remove with a screwdriver it is very smooth having only 3 ball bearings
Answer: Yes, the handle breaks down and removable. On ball bearings: No idea - Whatever goes on in the 700 (mechanically) is enough. Keep in mind that I am limited to representing my own preferences and expectations.
Answer: The handle is removable and packable. This reel only needs 3 ball bearings because it's a long casting and reliable. Great for salt water and fresh water.
Q:
If I want to run 10-12 lb braid, should I go with the 700 or the 1300?
Answer: I run 10 lb braid on the 700 and it works fine. I would go to the 1300 for 20 or 30 lb braid. Also the line capacity is greater on the 1300.
Answer: Line diameter is fine for either. The distinguishing factor between a 700 and 1300 is that the size and spool capacity is considerably larger. Do you want a smaller reel or a big reel? If you don't need the bulk and a mile of line, favor the 700.
Answer: 1300
Q:
I have seen in the comments that this reel has no anti-reverse. The description say it does. Does it ? thanks !
Answer: Yep - it has an anti-reverse. It is not like newer reels because it is not "infinite", but it is still a great reel!
Answer: Correct, the reel does not have anti-reverse. The handle and spool will give up a quarter inch or so of counter-rotation.
Answer: yes it does, you can see it inthe photo. you can see it sticking out right above the rear end of the reel. i bought it for the wide spool for longer casts. im very happy with it.
Answer: Yes it does. I have 4 of these in different sizes. If you are thinking of buying, don’t. Just buy it! Great reels with awesome drag! They are discontinued so better hurry.
Answer: The reel does have anti reverse. It is not instant or continuous but very effective. I love these reels. They get criticized for having less ball bearings and not being silky because of that. They more than make up for that with having a very powerful drag system, incredible durability, and my favorite— a bail that ALWAYS closes when you reel forward. My pet peeve is an expensive reel with a bail that doesn’t always close and catch the line. I will keep buying these reels until they are no longer available.
Answer: I have used this reel for many many years and I it is one of the best ever and does have anti reverse.
Answer: It does have antireverse. It's not instant like most new reels this day and age. There it a lever that you can still switch to have reverse feature if you choose.
Answer: It does and a very good one can't beat this reel for the money
Answer: Yes it has anti reverse
Answer: It does
Q:
Can anyone kindly measure the spool lip diameter? I want to compare to Daiwa size 500 and 1000 spool diameter. Thanks in advance for any help.
Q:
how much is this reel in english money
Answer: $100
Q:
made in japan
Answer: Thailand
Answer: Thailand
Q:
Is this the price for the ss700 86.68?
Answer: Yes
Q:
Is the ss700 considered a long cast like the 1300?
Answer: In my estimation, it casts 4he same as the 1300 or 2600. I have two of them. One is over 30 years old and still works like new. They are a workhorse of a reel.
Answer: Yes.Excellent long cast reel.
Answer: Yes. It has the same shaped spool as all of the other SS Tournament reels
Answer: I believe it is but smaller
Q:
this reel made at where
Answer: I don’t know where the reel is made. It is irrelevant. This is the best spinning reel made. Yes, it has less ball bearings and yes it is old school. That said, the bail closes EVERY time and the drag is legendary. Basically this is the ONLY spinning reel I will buy. The “newer “ and fancier ones fail when tested against this reel.
Answer: Thailand I Believe
Q:
Does it have a bail spring or does it hit a rubber bumper to close the bail ?
Answer: It still has a bail spring but the rubber roller is what closes it when you turn the handle. I own 3 of these reels for panfish and over a dozen of the ss1300s they have been built the same since the late 80s
Answer: I don't believe it has a spring I've had mine for over 15 years without any trouble. it's the best reel I've ever fished with. All 6 of my reels are Daiwa 700's I've caught allot of big fish on those reels and they have the best drag system I've ever fished with.
Answer: The round roller on the mounting stem.
Q:
The price for this is $87.00 why so expensive?
Product reviews of Daiwa Reels Spinning SS700 Tournament Ss Spinning
Amazon Customer : A classic, Precision built, smooth, dead reliable, workhorse!
There is a reason this reel has been unchanged for 30 years. It is smooth, Precision built, and dead reliable! I wish I would have owned one sooner. In fact, I like my first one so much, I ordered a second one “just because“. These reels are actually worth more than you pay for them. Stop mulling this decision over and just buy this reel. You will be super glad that you did!
Kimmo Juutinen (Finland) : Daiwa SS700 tuning
The antireverse spring was too tight restritcing reeling. I replaced it with an old daiwa part which was made of lighter steel wire. You can also loosen the tension of the spring a bit. I tested the rotor balance separately by holding a suitable stick through the rotor with "bearing" at both ends. I then balanced the rotor by glueing with epoxy glue some pieces of brass under the bail spring cover and drilling some weight off the opposite side; underneath the bail counterweight. I made the cromed brass metal bail trip cam screw lighter by taken off some metal of it (then glued a thin shiny metal plate on top of it). Also glued a little thin brass plate on bail side on the rotor assembly. Now the rotor is in perfect balance and it won't wobble when reeling. I polished the metal drag plates into mirrow shine and changed two white plastic spool washers into better teflon washers. Now drag works smooth. Added a ball bearing into worm shaft. Washed all the ball bearings in asetone and lubed them with a drop of oil. Grease into main gears. Oil into wormshaft, main shaft assembly and line roller washer. Now the reel works so much better and is fun to use. I use 0.20mm monofilament line, antireverse ON-position and by hand manually closing bail. With this reel If using bail kick knock antireverse should be OFF-position.
Cbuc : Five Stars
Amazing quality reel, just too small for what I needed.
larry g : Great value worth every penny
Great drag system and duarability
Bm : Best spinning reel? Under $300, anyway.
Have a bunch of these, some are 20 years old. - Awesome performer and bombproof! Mechanically tough, trustworthy, casting unmatched per design/ ease/ distance, super drag! Comment is limited to personal experience and preference. Buy whatever you wish.
Amazon Customer : Great reel, change the bush and it's near perfect
Straight away replaced the rear bush for a stainless bearing , pick them up on eBay for a couple of quid, cracking little reel, holds plenty of 5 pound line for most small lochs in Scotland, rivers etc, tremendous casting distance when combined with a 7ft daiwa whisker spinning rod . Would highly recommend this reel, bit expensive for what it is but hopefully will last a long time .

great reel for long casts
Ray Thibeault : great drag, very smooth
great reel , smoothest drag for the money, still using same model from 20 years ago for landlocked salmon works flawlessly
Randy : Highly recommended.
I own 2 and use them on my ice fishing rods. I also use them on my ultralites for perch, gills, and crappie. Pound for pound, dollar for dollar you can't beat this reel. No complaints here. Highly recommended.

Great reel
J. W. Smith : Great reels
The Diawa Tournament SS series reels may not be quite a smooth as some of the newer model reels, but they are high quality workhorse reels that last and last. My oldest Diawa Tournament SS series reel is almost 30 years old and is still going strong as my primary bass reel. Great reels for the money.
Robert A Brown jr : I don’t know I sent this product back
I don’t know I sent this product back
K4gwb : Still a nice reel
The ss700 is a Nice reel, but over the years they changed the way the handle changes from left to right hand retrieve. The old ones you don’t need a screwdriver to change the handle, the screw is attached to the side cover cap. The new ones have a cap, screw, and bushing and you don’t know how tight to make the screw, if you go all the way it will not crank. The old ones you tighten all the way by hand and your done. I don’t know why daiwa changed a good thing... I guess we all should add a flat point screwdriver to our tackle box. It’s still a good reel, but my old one is still my favorite.
