Cold Water Low Profile Linecounter Reel
The Salmon Reel Perfected
At the core of the Cold Water 350 is the low-profile design. Modern, sleek and elegant, the shape of the reel fits the hand perfectly, a critical feature when back-bouncing or casting floats. Centered within the die-cast aluminum frame, the machined aluminum spool holds more than 150-yards of 65-pound braided line, more than any salmon on earth requires. The thumb bar spool release is immediately available for ease of casting or feathering a drift. The Cold Water 350 advances the fishing industry with the addition of a mechanical linecounter to the proven low-profile baitcast reel.
- 5.4:1 gear ratio
- 25-pounds of max drag
- 3BB + 1RB stainless steel ball bearings

Questions about OKUMA Coldwater 350 Low Profile Linecounter Reel
Q:
Does the line counter on this reel work for surf casting long distances at high speeds?
Answer: I would not recommend using a counter reel for long cast applications. The added transmission gears that drive the counter will not allow the reel to freespool as freely as casting reel without a counter.
Answer: I was using this reel as a distance tester when trying to make some large swimbaits... Always had the line clicker disengaged when test casting, but it no longer works... Other than the clicker, the reel itself performs as it should, and very well!
Answer: It does cast fairly well.
Answer: What ever line comes out the reel will record
Answer: No , this is more a trolling reel than anything else.
Q:
Is this reel used for salmon fishing? What is the differences between 354A and 354D
Answer: i used it for lake trout and pike fishing with 30 pound braid line
Answer: I use out for salmon and steelhead and I believe the 364D it's left handed retrieve
Q:
What line would be best for trolling for kokanee and how much would fill the okuma coldwater 350 low profile linecounter reel?
Answer: This is a difficult question to answer, because it depends how you are fishing as well as where you are fishing. On of our top pro-staff in the Pacific Northwest that specializes in Kokanee fishing recommends using 10-12 lbs monofilament for his trolling. Monofilament is recommended, because of the stretch factor which helps with the and Kokanee’s soft mouth. The Coldwater 350 holds 250-yds of 12-lbs monofilament
Answer: 10-12lb mono. This reel is over kill for kokanee. Best used for trolling chinook or coho salmon. Try the convector okuma makes if you insist on a nice reel for kokanee.
Answer: Cameron Black runs 30lb braid on his Kokanee reels that pull double duty for bigger fish.
Answer: Use 20lb braided and 150 yards
Answer: 10lb /fill it all the way up
Q:
is it good for freshwater fishing
Answer: Yes. My favorite reel for river salmon fishing!
Q:
Is the cw350d the same as the cw354d?
Answer: Yes... the CW-354D is a 350 sized reel . The 54 designate the gear ratio which is 5.4:1 .
Q:
Is there a clicker on this model?
Q:
Does anyone know of the actual reel dimensions and not the package dimensions that states on Amazon? Handle to other side, counter to bottom seat?
Answer: I might be able to measure it if I gave a chance... but they are 20% bigger than your average bass style baitcaster reel, and 20% smaller than an okuma coldwater 303. It's way smaller than any other line counter tolling reel... It fits in my boats gunnel storage WAY better... they are awesome.
Q:
How much leaded core line can you put on this reel? Will it hold 100 yards??
Answer: The CW-354D is a low profile trolling reel. For lead core , I would suggest the CW- 303D or the CW-452D which will hold up to 10 colors of lead core.
Answer: It say it will hold 150 yds of 65# braid, so I would think 100 yds of lead core should not be a problem
Answer: I have braided line on mine, but I don't think it will hop 100 yards of leaded core line.
Answer: It should hold 100 yds.
Answer: Yes it will.
Q:
Should I have any concerns with this reel not holding enough line for salmon fishing or halibut fishing?
Answer: No concerns for salmon fishing... but iffy for halibut. Take a look at the okuma 450 low profile line counter reel for more line capacity and stronger drag.
Answer: I have used this reel for Ocean salmon fishing several times ( primarily bought it for kokanee ) and have never run it near out of line while trolling at 100 feet using 30lbs mono.
Answer: Should be fine. It holds 450ft (137m) of 20lb mono or much more in a heavier braid line.
Answer: I have used these reels for salmon fishing on the Columbia River and never had any issues.
Answer: Ok for salmon no for halibut
Q:
what is the price on a 2030LX
Q:
This reel works for trolling for a 30lb chinook?
Answer: It does for a 24 lb chinook, don't see why it wouldn't for a 30lb one.
Q:
How many yards of line does reel hold.
Q:
How many feet or yards of 30 LB 0.25mm braided line to fill this reel?
Answer: Our offices are closed as a result of the COVID-19 virus so I am unable to get an exact measurement for you with 30-lbs braided line. We do have braid line ratings for 50-lbs and 65-lbs braided line which are as follows. 50-lbs / 230-yds and 65-lbs / 150-yds. I would guesstimate that 30-lbs line would get you around 190-yds.
Answer: You should only put enough on the reel to be specifically calibrated to 100 feet on the line counter. Search YouTube for calibrating line counters.
Answer: Sorry I can't help I spool up with 10lb braid. And I don't remember how much I used.
Answer: Mine wouldn’t take a full 300yd spool of 40lb powerpro. I bet it would hold around 300yd of 30lb.
Q:
Is this saltwater rated?
Answer: The Coldwater CW-354D can be used for salt water and fresh. We do recommend rinsing the reel with freshwater after use in saltwater.
Answer: Don't no I've never used mine in salt water but I don't see why not as long as you clean it after use
Q:
does it have a clicker
Answer: Yes, it has a clicker.
Answer: yes loud clicker
Answer: Yes
Answer: Yes
Answer: yes
Answer: Yes it does
Q:
What was the diameter of the 20 lb Mono used to calibrate the 354D counter?
Answer: The diameter that is listed on the catalog for 20 lb is 0.41
Q:
is this reel a level wind reel
Answer: Yes it is. It is a "synchronized" level wind, meaning the level wind system functions both when you are reeling, and when line is being pulled out of the reel.
Answer: Yes. It's a casting Reel. It's made for trolling.Put Your Thumb on the Spool for tesion. Push the Button. Let lin out slowly until You get the Depth You want. I've caught some nice Strippers.
Answer: Yes it is and it works great. If you use 30lb, Power Pro braded line, It will be just about right for the readout to be accurate. A 150yd box should be big enough. If you get the full round real, get the 300yd box.
Answer: yes it is and might i add it's a dam good one yo!
Answer: Yes.
Answer: Yes
Answer: Yes it is.
Q:
Does this have synconized level wind or disengaged when in free spool?
Answer: The Coldwater reels have a synchronized level wind which will move when the reel is in freespool.
Answer: It has a synchronized level wind.

Answer: 250/12 230/14 150/20
Answer: 250/12 230/14 150/20
Q:
when trolling is there a drag system so when letting line out it does not go to fast?
Answer: The Coldwater has a spool tension knob to prevent line from feeding out too fast.
Answer: You can tighten the spool to adjust how fast the line comes off
Answer: Yes. There's a clicker that works perfect. I use it with a Shuttle Hawk on the way down, and works perfectly.
Q:
what lb drag is a okuma cold water cw354dlx
Answer: Max drag is 25 lbs.
Q:
What is the warrenty on reel?
Q:
It shows in the pic it possibly missing or dose it come with another handle knob
Answer: It's not missing, and only comes with one handle... absolutely excellent reel, probably the best money spent to value you can get. I've 4 years of guiding Salmon charters on the same reels...out of the last 10 I bought I've had 1 finally go out...buy it!
Answer: The power handle only has one handle knob. We do have a twin paddle handle that will fit the Coldwater reel as well.
Answer: The handle in the photo is the only one. It works great.
Q:
What is the gearing ratio for this reel?
Answer: It's pretty quick, 5.4 to1 Makes for a great trolling reel for walleye and I have come to like it a lot for jigging too.
Answer: i agree with leon, i mainly use my 350 for trolling for "kokanee" & trout, hav'nt been disappointed yet!
Q:
what is the lowest lb test you would run on this reel? I am thinking about using it with 6lb on a light action lamiglas rod for kokanee. Thanks
Answer: 6lb works great. That is my exact kokanee setup.

Answer: Yes, on the bottom right hand side on a left hand reel.
Answer: Black button on the side opposite the handle slides, click on or off.
Answer: Yes it does. You can flip it on or off.
Answer: yes
Answer: Yes
Q:
How many yards of 100 lb braid will it hold?
Answer: It depends on the Lb test of line your running. I'm a Salmon fishing guide and run these almost exclusively, they are absolutely excellent reels, and I run 50lb power pro on all of mine they probably hold 175 yards of 50. Great great reel get one....Or in my case 15.
Q:
How much 10 lb mono does this reel hold?
Answer: It would depend on the diameter of the 10 lb. test line, check with the manufacturer or do the math comparing 10 lb. mono diameter against average 65 lb braid. 65 lb braid compares to 20 lb mono, but 10 lb mono is not twice as small as 20.

Q:

Q:
I lost the cast control cap, where can I get a new one?
Answer: You can order from the parts department directly by contacting Okuma at 909-923-2828 ext. 135 , 181 or 180
Answer: eBay or amazon or contact plump and they will send you one.
Q:
can i cast with this reel?
Answer: Not really. I use mine with a downriggger so I just strip out the line length I want to trail behind the downrigger weight. That why I can precisely measure the depth and the distance behind the boat so I can duplicate the effective prentation. The drag is so smooth I use 4 lb line when inland trout fishing to make the fight more intense. I also have,a Tekota counter reel and both are excellent.
Answer: I've only used it for trolling with lead core line. It probably can be used for casting but I'm sure it would less than ideal.
Answer: Yes. I cast with it all the time.
Q:
The main picture is gold and the listing picture is not. What color is the reel?
Answer: I don't have the 350, but all of the other Okuma Coldwater reels I've purchased have a gray body and the star drag and some trim is orange/copper color.
Answer: The reel is all grey with burnt orange drag star.
Answer: These are the normal grey color that cold water reels come in.
Answer: The reel is all grey color
Answer: Body color is gray, bright orange metallic trim
Answer: GREY
Answer: Mine were silver.
Q:
I'm right-handed, should I get the left er right-handed version?
Answer: Depends on what you're used to. I'm right handed and was used to spinning reels, so went with the left hand reel. Traditional use would go with the right hand reel.
Answer: Depends on what you're used to. I'm right handed and was used to spinning reels, so went with the left hand reel. Traditional use would go with the right hand reel.
Answer: Most level winds are reeled in with your right hand (referred to by Okuma as Right Hand Retrieve) but if you are used to casting with you right and reeling with your left most people call this right handed, but for this real, it looks like Okuma calls this "Left Hand Retrieve"
Q:
I’m not understanding how the line counter works while trolling. If vertical fishing I can see where you would know how deep you are but trolling ?
Answer: Yes, you are right, your vertical depth while trolling will be different based on a number of factors... lure divind depth, lure weight, and trolling speed... 200' of line out might only go down 25' with one combination, but go down 50' in another. The REASON we use/need a line counter for trolling is to replicate SUCCESS! When your fish finder shows fish suspended at 30' in 60' of water, you need a way to REPEATEDLY put your lure where the fish are...
Answer: When trolling , the counter serves as reference to the amount of line out more than telling you the actual depth. For the depth, you will need to calculate according to your lure presentation and the trolling speed. The faster you are trolling , the more line you will need to let out in order achieve the desired depth. The slower your trolling speed the easier it is to get the lure down to the correct depth.
Answer: It lets you know how far behind the boat you are for set back behind a downrigger or approximately how deep your lure is. Some lures people have made charts for the depth the lure is for the distance out it is.
Answer: When spool in filled properly it tells you how much line is out. Very useful for trolling cranks to know your depth and just about in all trolling situations depth and line out in usually critical.
Answer: It's the same concept, different but equally important data. The distance back from the boat while trolling provides information about the actual depth of gear as well as distance from the boat. It all makes a difference to present gear in the strike zone. Distance back changes drops and rises while making turns, it all counts.
Answer: Not really a trolling reel if your pulling plainer boards it will tell how far behind the boat
Answer: You use it with a planer board
Q:
does someone have an actual picture of this reel?
Q:
Description shows 3bb + 1rb stainless steel ball bearings. what does the 1rb mean?
Answer: The 3BB will be typical stainless steel ball bearings. The "RB" is a one way clutch bearing that engages in just one direction. This allows for no play in the handle when setting hooks. The one way clutch bearing is located on he drive shaft and is what w e refer to at Okuma as our QuickSet anti-reverse function.
Answer: 1 rb means 1 roller bearing and 3 bb means 3 ball bearings.
Answer: 3 ball bearings+ 1 roller bearing
Q:
Does Okuma make this reel without the line counter, I love my line counter but would like to have a low profile without the line counter for surf fish
Answer: The Coldwater reels are designed from the same platform as the Komodo and Citrix low profile reels. The Komodo and Citrix reels are both high capacity low profile reels without the line counter
Answer: Yes...the Cs-553ls (level wind)

good reel
Mindy : Husband loves it... so all is well!
Bought this for my husband and he loves it so I’m assuming it was in perfect form!
jimbo : love it
needed the line counter, it still casts well when needed. great real have used to bottom bounce and troll with. Have reeled in many fish with no problem. Everything works well beyond its price.
James Klein : Five Stars
Awesome
Michael Shaw : Great!
Excellent reel for the money.
A. Person : I can't express how useful the combination of a thumb release for the spool ...
This reel rocks! I use it for bottom fishing for Rockfish and Lingcod, as well as for trolling for Salmon and Halibut.
For Rockfish, the line counter and baitcaster style release allow me to constantly monitor and adjust how close to the bottom I am to keep the lure down but not getting snagged. I can't express how useful the combination of a thumb release for the spool and having the handle on the correct side (I'm a righty, hold my pole in my right and crank with my left) is. For what I'm doing it's amazing!
For trolling, the linecounter is a life saver. Knowing how much line you have out at a glance is pretty clutch.
I'm currently saving up to buy another.

I still love this reel however after opening it up for winter maintenance, I have reservations about suggesting it for saltwater use. There was a significant amount of corrosion around the main screws on the inside and out of the drive-side plate as well as on several of the brass bearings and main gears.
I will continue to use it for saltwater fishing, however I'll be applying a liberal amount of grease to all metal surfaces and re-inspecting it mid-season to check on it. I'm still quite happy to have this as my main saltwater reel, however I don't think I need a second. I'll keep my old penns for that.
The amount of corrosion on the main gear makes me think that it didn't have enough grease from the factory, so those who want the most life out of this reel might open it up before using it to make sure there is an adequate amount of grease.
I'm keeping my rating at 5 stars because it's not a saltwater reel and expecting it to be impervious to corrosion from constant saltwater use would be unreasonable.
Mindy : Husband loves it... so all is well!

Eric Cantu : GOT IT BROKEN!
Yo, so this reel came with some bogus packaging, came broke, and the clicker only worked when reeling, the drag wouldn't set and didn't even attempted to stop me from pulling line out.
I know for fact these reels don't function like the one I got. Buyer beware!
Nicole D : Good quality. Solid feel. Unique dual purpose reel.
Good quality and really neat feature in a somewhat castable baitcast. Manages to do two things for me and the quality is good. Would buy again.
James Klein : Five Stars

David P. : outstanding reel
These Reels are fantastic. Great line counter, smooth strong drag, rigid aluminum body and butter smooth gearing make this okuma a winner. The gear ratio is a perfect combination of cranking strength for large fish, and line return speed for long line trolling. These reels give you the strength for trolling for large salmon and stripers, combined with the light weight and low profile that make casting easy if you get into a boil. Highly recommended.
Lou : Retreiving is a bit too slow
Right size, hold in hand , good product

Haven't used is yet but looks nice and easy to calibrate. I put about 300 yards of 30lb power pro on it and calibrate to zero in a 100 feet. Can't wait to use this
BMXerHS : It's as nice as you imagine... just buy it!
Bought it for trolling for Walleye on Lake Erie... it's light and sleek! 12oz vs 20oz for the regular 30 size model. If you're on the fence, just buy this one! This is the nicest trolling reel I've ever used. You get what you pay for and this is a small price to pay for the best! I'm very happy I got one and will eventually upgrade all of my reels to this one as they wear out/break....
Mark T. : Five Stars
smooth reel - great drag
Robert Hamman : Fish On
Fish where the fish are
John H. : The line counter works as advertised and should be very useful for returning the lure/bait quickly to the previous depth ...
Very speedy delivery. I would only give a 4 out of 5 though. This is because the reel is slightly rough when reeling in the line. If it was as smooth as some others I have used, then it would get a 5. The line counter works as advertised and should be very useful for returning the lure/bait quickly to the previous depth where the fish are biting. Will work very well for kokanee and rainbow fishing this summer.
Boris Shchiglik : Not 21 Century reel
Reel not as light as competitors. Reel does not have braking system and can’t be used as universal one, only for trolling. For casting a lot of backsplash.

Kyle : Great Reel
Love it. I use it for trolling mostly. Great for walleye and salmon in the rivers. Nice and compact and the drag and winching handle is unreal. I don't really used it for casting and there are no brakes, just a tension control knob. You can cast with it but you need to have alot of experience with baitcasters to prevent backlash. Great Reel anyways.
