Which size to run braid for summer fluke and striped bass on a 15-30lb 7' rod?

Answer: I use 30lb braid on both my Luna 253 & Luna 300, the 253 on a 6ft rod & my 300 on a 7ft mostly deep jigging have caught 45+lb fish jigging salt water, I hope this is helpful for you.

Answer: I have the 253, which is good for "everything Great Lakes". If you're fishing saltwater, go with the 300. Everything will then be covered. These are excellent casting reels with phenomenal birds-nest control. That's the most important feature for me. We have Lake St. Clair at the end of our street, which is a world-class bass lake. That's what I use it for.

Answer: If you plan on catching mostly fishing for big stripers use the wide spool 300 with 30# braid. If mostly flounder use the narrow spool 253 with 20# braid. You will be able to use lighter buck tails with 20# vs. 30#

Answer: I run 40 pound braid but because it is so much thinner you could go all the way up to 65.

Answer: Yes the Diawa Luna 300 is right hand wind and can not be changed to L/Hand I have had this reel for a number of years and have caught some very large fish with it.

Answer: Not the one I got Michael, but I know a left handed model is available. I will tell you that within 50 casts something inside broke. Neither Amazon nor the company I got it from (something Mountain) responded positively. I had to send it to Diawa, and they repaired it, though I had to pay shipping, and that made the reel even more costly. The reel is very light, and it's working fine, but I have little confidence in the structure.

Answer: the 253 picture is the same as a picture of the 300 and if you dont' look on the side plate what is the difference the 300 is larger than 253 I have both reels.

Answer: It is not designed for salt water, but, sure, why not? It has plenty of drag, just depends on what type of fish you are going for.

These reels perform as good as they look and with the quality craftsmanship casting and retrieving is super smooth and long distance especially when using braided line on a metal eyelet rod with at least 8 eye's, I have another reel just like this one I've had for ten years still working fine. I've been having fun catching Stripped Bass and Kokanee Salmon

I own several bait casting reels, and have always been fond of the round reel design. I hesitated a long time on the Luna due to the price. I have had this reel for about 3 months now and have used it two to three times a week. This is by far and away the finest reel I have ever purchased. I have never been a fan of magnetic spool control but this works great on this reel. I have been so impressed with this reel I have also purchased the 300 model, put it on a seven foot rod, loaded it with line for a steelhead fishing trip.
