Questions about FoodSaver Regular Sealer and Accessory Hose Wide-Mouth Jar Kit, 9.00 x 6.00 x 4.90 Inches, White
Q:
Do these stay attached to the jsr you seal, or do they create a seal on the standard metal jar lid?
Answer: they create a seal on the standard (and large mouth) jar with the metal lid. See this video for more details: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsUl8WJ9ztI
Answer: The FoodSaver Jar Sealer creates a seal using the standard metal mason jar lid.
Answer: They are used to create a seal on jars.
Answer: Have not used mine yet, but here is a demo vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NsUl8WJ9ztI
Q:
will this work on the nesco vs-02 food vacuum sealing system?
Answer: This accessories are designed to work with FoodSaver vacuum sealing systems. For further assistance with your questions, we would recommend you reach out Nesco customer service. Thank you for your interest in our products!
Answer: Yes, it works perfectly on the nesco vs-02. Fits right into the port on the top. I have done several quart wide mouth jars. It seals tight.
Answer: NO, it does not fit at all. I tried everything.
Q:
Does this create a vacuum within the jar itself, ie extracts the air inside the jar when sealing with a metal lid? Looking to marinate food items.
Answer: FoodSaver Jar Sealers vacuum seal standard Mason-type jar lids onto the jar to lock out air - the enemy of freshness. Not to be used for canning.
Answer: It does create a vacuum seal in the jar. For marinating food items, do a search on Amazon for "Food Saver Marinating Accessory." It's a dish with a vacuum lid for marinating items. As always, when handling items not being stored long-term, be sure to maintain proper refrigeration.
Answer: Yes. It holds the lid in position while the vacuum pump in thr food saver evacuate the air from the jar.
Answer: It does creat a vacuum inside the jar
Answer: Yes, it takes all the air out. They work well with the hand held vacuuum sealer.
Answer: Better to use bag or their containers
Q:
Does this work onn gallon mason jars?
Answer: As far as my experience goes, it all depends on the LID AND RING. If it is a "Regular" Ball lid and ring or a "Wide Mouth" Ball lid or ring it will work regardless of the size jar it is screwed on to. As long as those 2 sized lids & rings are used.....it should seal fine.
Answer: The largest I've used are the 64 oz jars and it works great.
Answer: As long as the lid fits into the cap.
Answer: It did for me.
Q:
When canning you need to sterilize the jar. Do you need to do the same for this process?
Answer: I always start with a sterile jar. I run them through the dishwasher. As always the key is to prevent bacteria growth.
Answer: Yes. The jars need to be sterilized. BUT, they also need to be 100% DRY. Moisture when vacuum packing will spoil product.
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: I do quite a bit of canning, but would not recommend this method for long term. I use it for keeping things from going stale and marinating.
Q:
How can I reseal a screw on sauce jar that you buy in the store
Answer: Thank you for asking! FoodSaver Jar Sealers can only accommodate Ball & Kerr Mason jars and require a full size FoodSaver to utilize them.
Answer: yes you can. look on you tube to se how. you will need the large food saver canister do do it but it really does work,
Q:
Do these seal jars just as well as pressure cooking does?
Answer: No. Definitely not. Canning things heats them to sterilize the contents of the jar and seal them so no toxins can re-enter. These sealers only seal the jar, not sterilize the contents. The contents would still spoil and very well could become deadly.
Answer: These jar sealers work perfect with mason jars, providing an air tight seal and extending the life of the food up to 5 times longer! Thanks!
Answer: The seal might be as strong as pressure cooking, but Pressure cooking involves heat, which is important for safely canning low-acid foods, so I wouldn't use this for anything like meats, beans, etc.
Q:
Do you have to use the plastic lid or do you still use the metal lid that comes with the mason jar?
Answer: You would use the flat metal lid and the jar sealer on top of the lid to seal the jars. Once the jar is sealed, you will remove the jar sealer.
Answer: I use the metal lid that comes with the jar. After vacuum sealing, I screw on the Metal band. I have been satisfied with the seal, and believe it would last for several seasons. I only use this procedure for dehydrated or freeze-dried foods.
Answer: The metal lid thank comes with the jar
Answer: I use the metal lids that come with the Ball mason jars
Answer: Use mason jar lids. Rings are not necessary.
Answer: Apparently you use the metal lid and band put the plastic suction On the top and attach it to your food saver and vacuum it’s not going to be A permanent seal like he would have if you hit canned but it is good for refrigeration and for non-refrigerated dried foods such as dehydrated or freeze dried foods to extend their shelf life
Answer: Sorry for the delay seals both metal lids both sizes very well!!!
Answer: I only use metal.
Q:
Is this a replacement for boiling???? So,they last for very long time? I'm confused
Answer: No, not a replacement for boiling water canning. I use them for refrigerator pickles to keep them sealed until they are ready, but you still need to refrigerate whatever you use them for.
Answer: Absolutely not. Water bath canning and pressure canning are the only way to preserve food over long periods that are perishable. However vacuum sealing dry goods: like flour, dehydrated pasta, dehydrated veggies, cereal, etc., will help prevent these items from going rancid for up to a year. Vacuum sealing perishable items for the freezer prevents freezer burn for up to 2 years depending on the item being frozen and reduces spoiling in the refrigerator for 2-3 weeks maybe up to 5 weeks depending on the item.
Answer: I don't think its a replacement for hot water canning. I use mine after freeze drying food and then I pack it in ball mason jars with oxygen obsorbers.
Answer: it is for beans or rice flour sugar like dry ingredients you want to stay fresh longer and keep humidity out of coffee tea spices stuff like that
Answer: No. food's that need to be canned still do. This will not kill bacteria. It's more for dry goods.
Q:
Can you reseal commercial food jars, such as you buy a jar of pickles/sauce/ from the store and then reseal?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: I don't think so. Only canning jars.
Answer: You can seal Ball and Kerr mason jars.
Answer: I can see no reason as to why they wouldn't seal. I personally DO NOT use those jars as they aren't made for repeated use (like canning jars) as the glass composition is different . You can buy used canning jars at Goodwill & St Vincent's for about a quarter or less each. I have seen too many of those "commercial" jars break during the canning process. When you vacuum seal you are putting about a 29" vacuum on that jar and any perfections (in the jar) can cause them to break and then you've just lost what it was you were trying to put up for later use. IMHO, not worth it. Hope this helps.
Answer: only if you have a canister for sealing...look at video on youtube
Q:
Will this work with a Weston Food Saver?
Answer: It depends. Not all Weston vacuum packaging systems have an accessory port. Those that have a port tend to not have the needed hose. The popular Pro 2100/2300 units do NOT have an accessory port.
Answer: I don't see a vacuum port on any Weston product, so probably not. Contact Weston for full specifications.
Answer: We recommend using a FoodSaver vacuum sealer as we have only tested the FoodSaver brand jar sealers with FoodSaver brand vacuum sealers.
Q:
Will this keep grapes fresh?
Answer: Great question! Vacuum sealing grapes in jars may compromise the texture. It may be a better idea to go with FoodSaver Fresh Containers with produce trays as they will allow you to keep the grapes away from the collecting moisture from condensation.
Answer: Anything you can fit in a mason will stay fresh. FoodSaver Fresh Containers may work a little better but are not cheap. unless you are trying to keep them fresh for months a sealed air free mason jar should do the trick
Q:
Do these work with standard mason jars and lids, or do I need something special?
Answer: Nothing special needed. I've used mine on Ball, Mason, and Better Homes home canning jars. All works great. There is a real good seal around the shoulder of the jar on all brands that I mentioned. Love this product!
Answer: Hey Jake!:)....they work with standard Mason Jars and lids.....no special equipment
Answer: The FoodSaver Jar Sealer is designed for Ball and Kerr brand wide-mouth and regular mason jars. Thanks!
Answer: Works with regular mouth and wide mouth jars.
Answer: yes they work only you have to have new home canning lids to make it work do not use used lids as they come lose.
Q:
can the sealed mason jars go in the freezer
Answer: Yes, mason jars are safe to freeze
Answer: Sure- it can go into freezer after vacuuming sealing.
Answer: yes
Q:
I'm wanting to juice at night....will this work to keep it fresh say over night?
Answer: If it's just overnight why wouldn't it stay fresh in a sealed container? I wouldn't worry about it. ;)
Answer: The FoodSaver Jar Sealers are perfect for this! Be sure to leave at least an inch between the top of your contents and the metal lid of your Mason jar so that the liquid does not compromise the seal.
Answer: I believe it would yes. I use it to keep food fresher longer in my fridge bc it takes O2 out. I store them in canning jars with metal lids and use these to "suck" out the air and seal.
Answer: It’s not for liquids, it’s for dry goods. It pulls a vacuum on the jar, so it would just suck up the liquid.
Q:
Is this sealer capable of sealing Ball Wide Mouth 1/2 gal / 64 oz/ 2 qt jars?
Answer: The large jar sealer will seal the bigger jars the small one does the pint size
Q:
Will this work with the vacmaster pro 350?
Answer: I do not know the vacmaster pro 350. It is all about the hose. Is there a port for the hose connection? If there is you will just have to buy the hose and try it. I have seen vac machines that the hose did not fit but they were older machines.
Answer: The vacmaster pro 350 does have a port and the hose comes with it.
Q:
Can you reseal the jars after opening or do you have to use a new lid??
Answer: Yes, you can reseal your jars after opening the jar.
Answer: You can reseal using the same lid many times.
Answer: yes you can. we will open a jar and use a partial and reseal.
Answer: I would assume as long as you do not heat the lid before sealing you can reuse is long is the glue on the lid is intact you should be able to have a noticeable vacuum just observe to see if the vacuum pumps
Q:
When would you use the Jar instead of the heat seal bags other than to protect the product from crushing or deformation? For example, bulk raisins.
Answer: I use the canning jars for storing nuts, beans, granola. Anything you want to remain fresh after opening a bag that doesn’t reseal. I love using it on brown sugar. Don’t use it on finely milled or powder products as this will be inhaled into the machine. I have a ton of things sealed in jars, both in the cabinets & in the freezer. Hope this helps.
Answer: Whether it's a pack of dried apricots or a jar of peanuts, jar sealers are built specifically to keep these items as fresh as the day they were bought. Even better, jars and jar sealers make it easy to grab and go with these snacks because the lid can be taken off and reapplied easily. If you want a handful of dried fruit before heading out, you can unseal and reseal them in a snap.
Answer: Flour, rice, dried vegetables, pasta, cookies, chocolate, etc. Jars and lids are re-usable...bags can be sometimes.
Answer: For Christmas gifts in 2017 I used jars to hold homemade colored popcorn and other jars with homemade trail mix.
Q:
Does this fit other brands of food sealers?
Answer: I am not sure if this will fit any other food sealer. You should contact the manufacturer.
Answer: We have not tested our accessories with other brands. They do work, however, with all currently manufactured models.
Answer: Sometimes it will fit. Only way I know to find out is to try.
Answer: I honesty don’t know. I would assume possibly but you may have to purchase it to find out.
Q:
Can you use this if you are sealing a jar that has water in it, or is it just for sealing dry goods?
Answer: The jar sealers work with wet and dry food, as well as liquids.
Answer: Yes you can seal fluids in the jars. I use it for milk.
Answer: Hello, you can seal it with approx. 2/3 liquid contents in it. Hope it was helpful.
Q:
When you open a sealed jar to use a bit, Is that lid then ruined or can the jar be resealed with the same lid?
Answer: If you are careful you can get the lid to seal but it may not stay sealed as long . I like using these seals. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01770SL92/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Answer: All depends on if you use a thumb to open, or a can opener. Openers tend to bend the lid, making it unusable. But a properly opened lid will reseal.
Answer: I reuse the seals multiple times, but it is not recommended since every time you pop the seal it looses some of its ability.
Answer: It can be resealed over and over again.
Answer: Yes you can reuse the lid as long as you're careful and don't damage the lid.
Q:
Once you open a can item that needs to be refrigerated after and you seal in jar do you still need to refrigerate?
Answer: This is not a substitute for process canning. If an item needs to be refrigerated, sealing with this only prolongs its life a little more but does not prevent botulism etc. Again this is NOT canning.
Answer: If you would normally put in the refrigerator, then yes, it needs to go in the refrigerator.
Answer: Yes, it would still need refrigerated.
Answer: Yes, it would still need refrigerated.
Q:
Since i can many items (pc & water bath) i have numerous used lids that i use for dry storage. do i need to use new lids?
Answer: For best results we recommend using new metal lids. However, our jar sealers are not to be used for canning purposes. Thank you!
Answer: No, used lids can be used with the vacuum sealer for jars. However, do not use ones that are bent or nicked. I'm always very carefull opening my canned items so I can use with my vacuum sealer.
Answer: yes because they won't seal if they are not new lids I tried useing a used lid and it did not seal.
Answer: I have only used it a few times so far, so I'm not really a good judge, but I don't think so, as long as they seal they should work with this, using new or nearly new lids, I seem to have had mixed results. I have not tried troubleshooting yet.
Answer: My experience so far is that if the seal is intact it works fine.
Q:
will this work other brands of vacuum sealers that have the accessory port?
Answer: We do not recommend using them on other brands as they have not been tested for compatibility.
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: This vacuum sealer has never worked right from day one. Bad investment on my part.
Q:
will this work for the vacuum bags with a valve ? Thanks!
Answer: Hello, this is Gosia from FoodSaver Care. Thank you for contacting us regarding our FoodSaver Regular Sealer and Accessory Hose Wide-Mouth Jar Kit. The FoodSaver Jar Sealer is designed for Ball and Kerr brand wide-mouth and regular mason jars. Wide-mouth Jar Sealers can only be used with wide-mouth jars. Regular Jar Sealers are only for regular mason jars. FoodSaver Jar Sealers are also designed to fit Benardin Mason jars sold in Canada.
Q:
Does this come with both size sealers. The picture in the ad suggests it does but some of the reviews suggests there is only one.
Answer: Yes, this bundle comes with both the wide mouth and the regular mouth sealer.
Answer: I bought all the pieces separately, instead of as the kit. I was annoyed because the pictures show the sealers WITH tubing, but when I got them I saw there was none. I had to make another order for the tubing. I don't know if it's different if you order the kit..
Answer: There's one. You have order/purchase the other size. I use mine all the time.
Answer: I have bought a new sealer and I got I sealer and several bags anda few bag rolls. I have also purchased refurbished sealers and just received 1 sealer and bags and rolls in it, but less bags and rolls.
Answer: Mine had both.
Answer: Yes it does
Q:
I just tried to use this for the first time and the hose won’t lock into the food saver port so I’m not getting a seal! What should I do?
Answer: I'm not sure what you mean because my tube was connected and all I had to do was just take the cover off of the the PIN that you insert like an adapter to seal canning jars. I've done that with no issues whatsoever and I've also made bags and sealed them so I'm not seeing enough information to know how to help you like what tube why did you need to plug it in did you think it was not plugged in or are you trying to add something else to it?
Answer: Hello, this is Zuzanna from FoodSaver!
Q:
only need the small mouth sealer price please?
Answer: It’s a set
Q:
Does this work only with metal 1x use lids? Can I use Tattler lids?
Answer: I just ordered tattler lids yesterday and will try them out. I have read both yes and no to that. Mine works great with wide mouth metal lids. Cant get the regular size to work. Will keep trying though.
Answer: Hello, this is Karolina from FoodSaver!
Answer: I’m not sure if that type of lid would remain secure after vacuum sealing. Also I presume the vacuum that is produced is “stronger” than that of pressure canning. I may be wrong. If I was interested, I would contact the manufacturer of the unit. I honestly have never heard of these kids. Sorry.
Q:
what food saver models does this work with?
Answer: I use mine with the " FoodSaver Vacuum Sealer FSFRSH0051-P00 FreshSaver Handheld Rechargeable Sealing System," Put your food etc. in the bag, suck out the air or put dry goods in canning jars, put your lids on and take the air out with this system. As far as other models go I believe you can use this system with most of them but you would have to read about the particular model your interested in and see if it accommodates the accessory.
Q:
Does it work with Geryon food sealer
Answer: Don’t know anything about that sealer. The food saver has a small round hold into which the hose from the jar lid sealer fit. Go look at a Foodsaver and see if yours has the same size hole.
Q:
Are these still being made? Is food Saver or those who bought it still making Mason jar lid vacuum sealer‘s for both regular and wide mouth jars?
Answer: Yes
Q:
Does it also work for a one piece mason metal lid instead of two pieces metal lid?
Answer: Hello, this is Zuzanna from FoodSaver!
Answer: No, This will only work with a two-piece lid.
Answer: No it fits over the lid of a lid and ring and creates the suction. Would not work on a 1 piece top
Answer: No, it snaps down over the flat lid and suctions the air out:
Answer: A plastic lid no, a metal lid I also dont believe so.
Answer: You use it with just the lid not the band.
Answer: Most likely No, you have to put the center lid on and it vacuum seals that then you add the ring.
Q:
Will the Food Saver hand-held pump work with sealing mason jars? I don't want to buy the bigger vacuum system.
Answer: short answer is that it is not designed to...however, it's an easy hack. I got this set along with the handheld hand held pump kit, that came with a bonus "deli tray". Drilled a small hole into the lid of the deli tray and reamed it out until the connector of the hose could be forced in. sealed an empty pint mason jar in about 15 seconds. (notes: I filled the deli tray half full with what I had on hand to displace the air in the container, I didn't seal the connector to the deli tray lid with epoxy like I plan to, and I only let the pump charge for about 4 hours instead of the recommended 24 hours)
Answer: I always use my Foodsaver handheld pump to seal mason jars with these. It makes it so convenient vs pulling out my big Foodsaver from the drawer... Never have had a problem.
Answer: buy the brake bleed kit ($25 here on amazon, free shipping) and you can hand vacuum seal with no other machine or electricty. love mine
Answer: I use a brake bleed tool all the time on these. Works great. Like this:
Answer: No, the handheld only works with zipper bags and deli containers. Thanks!
Answer: Yes, I don't even use the hose the handheld covers the hole on top of the lid cover and seals perfectly. Makes it quick and easy.
Q:
Can this be used with the vs1100 series of food savers?
Answer: Hello Pattee, This is Salumu from Foodsaver Care. Thank you for contacting us regarding our Foodsaver Vacuum Sealer Wide Mouth Jar kit. Yes, it compatible with the VS1100 Series.
Answer: Yes the jar sealers are compatible with this model series and all other counter top vacuum sealers, however, they are not compatible with the handheld vacuum sealers.
Q:
Does this include both regular and wide mouth attachments?
Answer: Yes, this bundle includes the wide mouth and the regular mouth seal.
Answer: Yes both wide mouth and regular it’s great
Answer: Yes it does. I found the smaller attachment had the gasket in upside down. Once I turned it over, I had no issues with using it.
Answer: That’s what the products specs say and the picture shows - I only purchased the sealer/bags.
Q:
I bought the set and it doesn't work on my food saver v2490. used the hose with the unit but it won't work. why won't it seal?
Answer: How are you attaching it? Are you using the accessory adapter or actually using just the plastic hose? Are you using the accessory setting?
Answer: Sometimes the seal isn't as good as it seems. Try wiping the rim with a dry cloth to make sure it's clean. Once in a while, I also jiggle the hose connection a little to see if there's air or anything preventing it from sealing. It takes a little bit of finagling at times, but usually works.
Answer: Could be a leaking gasket or part. YouTube has several good videos on this item
Q:
it’s one meant for regulating mason jars
Answer: Yes both large mouth and regular. I really love this attachment. I have put so much in jars all of our staples .
Answer: yes, one is for wide mouth and the other for regular.
Answer: Yes. But you have to make sure the ring and lid separate. It won’t work if the ring is on the lid part
Answer: No. My wife tried it and it didn't work too well.
Q:
Does this work with model 4840
Answer: Looks like the 4840 has the retractable sealer. I have model 5300 and mine has that and that's what I use so it should work, I can't tell you for sure
Answer: Absolutely, the jar sealers will work with any current FoodSaver.
Answer: I have a 4840 which has the retractable sealer and not an accessory vacuum port. The suction end of the retractable sealer pulls apart to expose a nub. I cut off one of the plugs of the jar tubing kit to attach it to the nub, but the tubing of the jar kit was too small a diameter to fit it. So, I heated the end of the tubing with a lighter to soften it. It fits fine now and works perfectly. I'm just going to leave it that way because I don't want to go through the heating process every time.
Answer: Yes, it works perfectly!! I have vacuum sealed several quarts and pint sized jars .
Q:
Will this sealer work on the Magic Chef that has the vacuum for jars? Having problems finding the hose and mason jar sealer to go with our new unit.
Answer: I believe the port would have to be 5mm.
Q:
Can I microwave food sealed in this container ?
Answer: This is not a container. These are jar sealers used for vacuum sealing Ball/Kerr Mason jars. We do not recommend microwaving your jars with the jar sealer son them, however.
Answer: You can microwave in the jars if you take the metal lids off first
Answer: Not unless you take the lid off. Metal and microwave don't play well
Answer: No
Q:
Does this work with potane sealer?
Answer: Hello, this is Karolina from FoodSaver!
Answer: Yes works well. We use it a lot
Q:
Does this work on 16 oz mason jars?
Answer: Yes
Q:
Do these work with ball jelly jars?
Answer: Our FoodSaver jar sealers work with Ball and Kerr mason jars. These jars are available in different sizes to suits all customers needs.
Answer: They work with all Ball STANDARD or wide mouth jars.
Q:
I know this isn't supposed to be used to "can" foods due to sterilization issues, but what if the contents are boiling hot when sealing?
Answer: FoodSaver recommends when jar sealing that the contents are room temperature or cooler.
Answer: You should go to a USDA page and look up canning. If the contents are high in acid you can use a water bath method but they must be canned properly or you risk getting really sick. I would not use this product to can.
Q:
Can one use the hose for Foodsaver Fresh Containers?
Answer: Yes I have. It works just fine!
Q:
What models is this compatible with?
Answer: This is compatible pretty much with all of our models.
Answer: Any model with a hose port
Answer: It should be compatible with any version of the FoodSaver
Answer: It’s not compatible with mine but mine is about 14 years old... if I remember correctly even on the box it came in doesn't specify... your best bet is to buy from your food savers manufacturer. Sorry, I wish I could have better nees
Q:
Does it work with the koios vs2233?
Answer: It did not work at all for me.
Q:
Does anyone know the "shelf life" of items sealed in jars?
Answer: Off hand I don’t. But check with your local County Cooperative Extension and they should have some information.
Product reviews of FoodSaver Regular Sealer and Accessory Hose Wide-Mouth Jar Kit, 9.00 x 6.00 x 4.90 Inches, White
Mtndawg54 : These work great! If it doesn't check the Jar also! Blue Mason Jars have problem.
These work great with the KOIOS Vacuum Sealer (VS2233) also on Amazon. I sealed my first regular mouth without a problem. My second vacuum attempt on the next jar did not work. I thought it was the lids as the jar looked fine. Turns out it was the jar. I finally switched to another jar and it again worked great! No problems with the wide jar at all. Highly suggest. I use these for refrigerated fruit. Appears you don't have to flash freeze first when sealing into a jar. Will update this if I find it's different after a couple of days. I'm a retired guy and I'm now quite the homemaker! Highly suggest this if you have a vacuum sealer with the hose attachment available!!!!
Note: After several days of use I found a common problem using Regular Mouth Blue Tinted Mason Jars. If they do seal it's not very well. It has to be something with the glass used for the blue tint or the manufacturing process. They do not have a perfect top like most clear Mason Jars. From now on I will not even try to use a blue tinted regular mouth mason jar. They will be relegated to a ornament in my garden. Wide Mouth Mason Jars work the best by far!!!!
Lt. Todd : $228 of dried goods wasted due to it not sealing Jars!
I should have listened to the negative reviews. Doesn't matter how hard I try my jars never seal. Occasionally I'll get a jar to seal after about 25 tries. But at that point is when I typically will just lose patience and give up. And then decide to try again later. And it's just a cycle of losing patience and then trying again. Losing patience and trying again and so on. I've been at it for about 2 weeks now and I've only ever gotten 4 jars to seal completely. By sealing completely I mean the jar flat can hold up the weight of the contents and the jar without losing it's seal. That is what a successful seal is. Regardless if it's contents are being pressure canned, water bath canned, or vacuum sealed. At first I was thinking it was maybe the jar flats. So I went to my storage room and got some new ones out of a box. That didn't help it at all. I was thinking well maybe the seal material needed to be softened a little. I mean after all the flats and jars are designed to be sealed in a heated environment (i.e. pressure canner or water bath canner). So I added the jar flats to some boiling water for 30 seconds. Then dried the lid off with some paper towels before applying. That didn't help either. I then figured well maybe it's the vacuum sealer. So I went out to my local Walmart and purchased a brand new vacuum sealer. That didn't help either.
So I'm kind of ticked off considering I have 50 regular mouth quart jars with 680 grams (1.5lbs) by weight of basmati rice in each jar and they won't seal. That's 34 kilos (75lbs) of basmati rice. Worth a total of almost $120. I also have 25 Kilos (55lbs) of Bread flour divided between 18 wide mouth half gallon jars. And another 18 wide mouth half gallon jars with AP flour. For a total of 36 half gallon jars. And a total of 50 kilos (110lbs) of flour. Worth a total of about $60. Then I have 24 bags of Hurst Cajun Ham Beans in regular mouth quart jars. That totals to almost $48.
So totaled up I have $228 of dried goods in my jars that won't seal. So I've wrote that expense off as a loss. Also not to mention the wasted oxygen and O2 absorbers in each jar. So I'll definitely be returning this. Also my jars were brand new and had no chips around the rim.
I doubt FoodSaver is going to make it right and reimburse me for the lost dried goods due to their product not properly sealing new unused jars.
M. McIntyre : Great for dry canning!
We bought these to "dry can" our flour and pasta after an outbreak of grain moths :( They work wonderfully. With the milled grains, we discovered you have to use a paper muffin cup turned upside down between the flour and the lid otherwise the flour will end up in the sealer. But it works very well- make sure to wash the rings in the sealer frequently!
Roxanne : Makes storing food easy and long term.
I bought a used but like new Jar sealer kit. Came with BOTH large and small jar sealers and the hose. I must admit they looked and we're package like they were brand new. ???? Took them out of box, and immediately hooked up to my clamdo vacuum sealer. They both worked beautifully. ???? Theses are so hard to find. And usually if you can they're outrageously price ???? But this sseller was great to work with. Keep checking back everyday if you're looking for this jar kit. It's well worth it when one comes along. A very handy prepping kitchen tool. Also worked perfectly with my hand held vacuum food saver pump.
Stephanie R : Disappointed, hose doesn’t fit with vacuum sealer
I want to like this kit, I really wanted it to work as I have a ton of ways I wanted to use it. I have an FM2000 that is a few years old and long ago misplaced (or possibly threw away, thinking I had no use for it) the accessory hose. My assumption in buying this kit, given an accessory hose is included, was that it would meet my needs and work with my machine. Either end of the tube does not fit the vacuum sealer accessory port. So by all accounts this purchase was a waste for me unless I can track down my hose (unlikely) or spend more money to purchase a replacement...which I shouldn’t have to do since I already paid for one as part of this kit.
Update: they don’t seem to make the hose that is compatible with my machine anymore. Completely out of luck I guess.

Tanya : Disappointed
I was very excited to get this to seal my mason jars full of spices, but it seems to be hit and miss. Some jars seal perfectly while others won't seal at all. I've tried "high quality" lids to see if that was the problem (it wasn't), made sure there was nothing getting sucked up in the tubing (there wasn't) and cleaned the piece that fits on the jar between each use. Not sure what the problem is. When it works, it's great, but more than half the time it fails to seal.

J. W. : Not perfect but it works...sometimes.
It works, but at the cost of some frustration...I tried multiple lids and these are new, and new mason jars. Actually tried an older jar and older seal/lid...that worked so guess they aren't all made the same. Think it's a good product if you have the right lids I guess... The sealer I own is fairly new and it works and suction power is pretty powerful just to note.
Amazon Customer : Perfect for canning dry goods and honey!
Wish I'd have known along time ago that tree small mouth jar sealer was available. Would've made life much simpler for the past decade! I had my own raw honey. Putting jars in a hot water bath to seal lids is not an option. Finding large mouth pint jars is always troublesome. Problem solved! Next problem will be when I wear out the FoodSaver sealer due to all tge extra new use.
Stephen Baker : Easy, flexible between brands, and reasonably priced.
Got this for.my wife for.Christmas as she got into canning during the lock down. She also wanted cast iron and wood cooking tools. It's like she's playing Oregon trail in real life. I told her I'm getting her a bonnet for Mother's Day at this rate.
Anyway, I actually forgot it in its hiding spot until a few days after Christmas. She broke it out this weekend and went nuts. She has recently put everything we had in the cabinet in boxes and bags I to Mason jars. The only natural progression is then to vacuum seal it all. Even the stuff we use regularly.
Not going to lie, I played with it, too. It was super easy and really quick. I actually did most of it. It was kind of satisfying. The lame crap people get a kick out of as we get older, right?!
I did have to use a straw from a kid's snippy cup because I wasn't using the food saver brand vacuum sealer, but it worked. Then I found the right tube in the box my wife had thrown away.
Anyway, it's easy to use, I got it at a fair price (sold out everywhere over the summer), and we'll probably get an awful lot of use out of it.
ryan : Here's a fix...how to make a subpar product awesome...
Confirmed that the wide mouth version works fine, but the regular mouth one doesn't work very well. Here's my fix and it has been working well. To keep the blue silicone seal from falling out of the housing EVERY SINGLE TIME, I glued it in place using Silco brand RTV 4500 food grade silicone adhesive. I roughed up the mating surfaces with some 220 grit sand paper and cleaned with acetone prior to bonding. The bond seems pretty strong and I have not had a problem after about a dozen seals. I have not experienced any issues with the regular mouth lids not creating a seal. I think this is also because I stopped using my FoodSaver vacuum sealers, which kinda suck (or don't suck). Instead I bought a real vacuum pump--New Position's 3.0 CFM rotary vane vacuum pump (only $57!). Much tighter seal (even a bit hard to get the wide mouth lids off!). I'm pretty happy with this new setup. I pieced some stuff together to adapt the vacuum inlet, but you really just need to get a plastic or brass 3/16" barb coupler, a 3/16" barb to 3/8" male NPT fitting, and some 3/16" ID vinyl tubing and you're good to go! I'll post a pic for reference...
Bee Matrix Systems : Effective at vacuum sealing mason jar lids
These lids, with their connector tube, are sized to cover regular and wide mouth canning jar lids. They work beautifully to seal madon jars provided you have an effective vacuum source to pair them with. Reliable, predictable, easy to use. Sealing jars this way keeps humidity, pantry moths and ants away from crackers, grain, cereal … useful for any shelf-stable items you want to vacuum store. AND, bonus excitement, I just found out you can pry a narrow collar off the bottom and these covers work fine with vintage canning jars that have a ring of glass very close to the screw threads. Great product, and so adaptable!
Amy : Seal and seal again!
Purchased in August , 2016 These are awesome. Just awesome. Even if you don't can get yourself some jars just for vacuum storage. Guaranteed you won't be disappointed!!! I use the heck out of these things. I waited a long time to put my review in to see if they last. See for yourself with the photo. They still look brand-new. The inner seal removes easily for handwashing. I suppose you could put them in the dishwasher, but they're so easy to clean. Why would you? The vacuum tube that comes with is very sturdy. Measures approximately 2' for vacuum sealing all sizes of jars easily. Highly recommended
Anthony : The wide mouth sealer works great. The regular size sealer not so much
This came with both the wide mouth jar sealer and the regular size jar sealer. The wide mouth sealer works great. The regular size sealer not so much. The inner blue sealer gasket on the regular size sealer keeps coming off when you try to remove from the jar after sealing. Definitely a pain in the neck to have to fit it back in place. Stick with the wide mouth sealer and forget the other one.

PD. : Large works great, Small not so much
Have a Nesco vacuum sealer. They recommend using the Food Saver products for attachments. The large jar sealer works great, use it everyday to seal coffee beans. The small one doesn’t work using the canister setting on Nesco. Found the pulse function will seal the small jars.
If you don’t have the Nesco sealer or other sealer with pulse don’t know how you’d get the smaller to function.
Love the large jar sealer. Small takes a bit of fiddling.
MDB : Nice addition to have
If you own a vacuum sealer these are nice attachments to have. They are solid and easy to clean and so far they fit on the jars I have used. I bought this set because the price for both was less expensive than buying individually. Very pleased with this purchase.

DeeJ : Hose attachment does NOT fit my machine port!
Hose connector will not fit the vacuum port on machine. The video shows the GREEN connector, but received connector is white & is too big to fit. I contacted customer service & they said "The green end is discontinued & for me to buy it somewhere else. Bad & misleading purchase. You must have the green end to fit this model.
dianna l. schwab : This thing really works!!!
What I like is that I don’t own a very expensive bag sealer machine, so I bought a car brake bleeder vacuum pump kit and manually pump the air out of the jars. It only takes about 10-15 squeezes, then done! Really easy, in expensive and convenient. It works like a charm! I recommend this product to anyone who wants to be able to can/preserve their own food.
Julie Kingston : The hose that came with this order did not work with my either of my Food Saver machines
It took several weeks to get the Food Saver jar sealers (due to high demand caused by Covid probably), but they did finally arrive. When I went to use it, it did not work, the jars would not seal. Turns out that the hose they sent did not work with my machine. Once I found the original hose that came with the unit when I bought it, it worked just fine. I sealed the jars, and they are still sealed the next day. I like that you get both regular and wide mouth attachments. I will use this to seal beef jerky, oatmeal, nuts and raisins.

AV : Works with FoodSaver hand held
I almost returned it because I thought it wouldn't work, but then I figured it out. It arrives with a suction tube that has an attachment on either end. One end attaches to your jar suction lid and the other connects to your food preservation system. The attachment doesn't fit the hand held preservation device. Here is the remedy. Pull the attachment off one end of the tube. Pull the green cap off the bottom of the hand held device to reveal a small stem. Hold the suction tube (the end without the attachment) under hot water to allow it to soften (hold it with the opening down to avoid getting water in it). When it softens, force it over the little stem on the hand held. Let it cool that way to mold it. Then use the attachment on the other end connect to the mason jar suction lid. Cover your mason jar with its disc lid (not the ring). Press the suction lid firmly over it, and use the hand held to remove the air. To easily remove the suction lid from your jar, first detach the hose from the suction lid. Then pull the suction lid off. The system sucks the air out of my mason jars perfectly and seals the disc lids on well. I'm very pleased.
Willim : great product if everything worked
I was excited to get this product to use. I worked with for an hour and couldn't get it to work. Went to Youtube to see what I was doing wrong. It looked like I was doing it right. I used my Foodsaver vacuum sealer that I just bought. I tried my old Ziplock vacuum sealer with no luck. Then my mom gave me an old hose from her Foodsaver she had from years ago. It worked!! Tried my hose again and the hose they send just doesn't work. I will be getting a hold of Foodsaver and hopefully getting a different hose to use. I did noticed that the little nipples on the ends that go into the jar sealer ring of my mom's hose are slightly longer. If Foodsaver replaces my hose to one that works I'll change my rating for this product. It is pretty cool and fun to work with.
Vicki Damron : This vacuum sealer reeks
This thing has worn me out. I’ve had to mess with this all morning. I’ve sealed 16 quart jars. I’ve tried old lids, new luds, new jars, old jars, regular wide mouth. 2 different food savers. It takes 7 or 8 tries to get a seal. The gasket pulls off and pulls lid with it. Seal comes off every time. It doesn’t seat in vacuum cap allowed rice to be pulled in between gasket and cap. Pulls seal fine. just gasket pulls the lid off. The bigger gasket tucks under rim so it was better but still finicky. I was using almost all new lids. I do don’t have any used ones.
April : For older models
These jar sealers only work with the older models. That is why there are so many complaints. My vacuum sealer (seen in the photos) wasn't sucking so I bought a new one. The jar attachment wouldn't fit. I was not happy at all. I knew my vacuum sealer was "going out". It was old and I practically had to sit on it to get it to suck the air out. Anyway, the new one I bought would not work with this at all. The hose wouldn't fit in the accessory port. I immediately out it back in the box and sent it back. I had an bright idea to buy new seal gaskets for my old sealer to see if I could just fix the issue. $6.99 totally fixed my vacuum issue. Immediately I attached my jar attachment to my V2450 (which has no problem fitting), locked it, hit vacuum seal. That jar sealed without incident. I am a happy camper, I tell you what! Like I said, these jar attachments are for the older Vacuum sealers not the newer ones. If you have a newer sealer I think you need that little hand held one. I don't know how that works but it looks crazy expensive to me, juat saying. I am not about to pay $200 for a sealer because it has a handheld device.
Sunny : Great tool for storage of dry food
Great tools to add to the FoodSaver. The large mouth works as is from the package. The small/regular mouth needs a lid placed upside down in the tool as a spacer in order for it to be able to seal the jar properly. I buy bulk bags of rice, corn meal, grits, etc to save money then I seal it into quart or half gallon jars to keep it fresh and convenient on the shelf. My dehydrated peppers and onions are so handy packed this way.

Pa-Pa : Solutions to Known Problems with the FoodSaver Mason Jar Vacuum Sealer Kit
I absolutely LOVE my jar sealer kit. I seal all my spices, herbs, beans, flour, wheat berries, rice, and more in various size Mason Jars (4, 8, 16, 32, and 64oz).
Everything said here about the problems with the Regular-Mouth Adapter are true. It is not designed properly. But I found a SOLUTON THAT WORKS for me every time (so far except for one jar that was chipped).
My solution is to use a clean WET sponge to moisten the bottom ring of the jar. I am providing a picture of my technique. (I only had one hand available because I had to take the picture but...) With the hand not shown, I rotate the jar around keeping the WET sponge exactly as shown all the way around (only the end of the sponge needs to be WET, I try not to get any moisture above that ring)). I found that getting the sponge wet before each use seemed to be make a difference. Immediately seal the jar before the ring has a chance to dry.
I start the vacuum before I connect the hose to the Adapter. That way I can tell right away if it's sealing. The sound changes if the machine starts working harder to do the sealing. As long as that bottom ring was wet I had about a 90% success rate. On those occasions when the sealing did not start right away, I picked up the jar and Adapter and gently twisted the jar a tad inside the Adapter. This worked for me every time the jar did not seal on it's own.
If that doesn't do it for you, you can play around with tilting the Adapter a bit. I used to have to do this before I figured out the wet ring solution.
As for the complaint about the hose not fitting the sealer, this too is true. BUT, the hose that comes with your sealer should work. I've had a couple different brands and they all came with a hose that worked. If you purchased a sealer without a hose, you may be out of luck. The only hose I've seen that you can order separately is the FoodSaver hose which, as others have said, does not work with many sealers.
I have never considered the hose problem a big deal since the hoses that came with my sealers have worked great.
The Regular-Mouth problem was a huge problem for me because I use 4oz mason jars to store all my spices in. I had a "need" to make it work and kept exploring options (wrapped 5 layers of black tape around that bottom rim which worked well prior to coming up with the idea of the wet ring which works better and saves all that tape and time :). Except for the 4oz jars for the spice and herbs, I stick with Wide-Mouth simply because the Wide-Mouth Adapter works great every time with no additional steps. As far as I know, you cannot buy 4oz Wide-Mouth jars :).
I keep the sealer on my counter because I use it almost daily. All of the jars in the Spice Drawer show are all Vacuum Sealed.
Just make sure that bottom ring has no chips, the top of the jar is clean, and the lid is clean as well.
skyhawkd : Great product to save money on food
I love the jar sealing products from Food Saver. Here's what I used them for: - after making a big batch of fresh juice, I pour it in mason jars and seal them. They last for a week in the fridge. - if I've got quinoa or nuts or small amounts of pasta that aren't quite enough for a recipe I put them in mason jars and seal them up. Lasts a lot longer. - Mason jar salads - Pretty much anything that can go in a mason jar and get stored in the fridge will last a lot longer if you seal it first
Tip: use the moist, gentle speed on the Food Saver and watch to make sure it isn't trying to suck up the liquid into the tubing. Did that once and had to dismantle the machine to clean it.
Highly recommend this for cooks!
Hurricane : Wide-mouth sealer mazing - the Regular-mouth sealer not so much
First of all the wide-mouth sealer is wonderful. I love it. The reason I am not giving this set a 5-star review is the design problem with the regular-mouth sealer - it does not work properly as described. After many efforts to get the regualr mouth lids to seal; new lids, new jars, many attempts I was ready to throw it in the garbage. Fortunately, I read the comment made to a reviewer experiencing the same problem. Thank goodness for that comment because now my problem is resolved. Using two lids one on top of the other while sealing is the secret to success. The top lid comes away when the sealer is removed leaving the bottom lid attached to the jar. I even tried it with lids I had removed from previously canned jars (washed and dried of course) and it sealed perfectly. Thank you to the person who posted a solution which works.
Dg : Silver Jewelry Anti-Tarnish Experiment
Easy to use. I’m experimenting with mason jars and my silver jewelry. There are pieces á wear seasonally. Despite my best efforts; jewelry in a silver keeper which I then put in a ziplock bag and then place that in another. I know. 10 months storage and it still tarnishes. I’m hoping this Mason jar thing works out. So far my Christmas stuff still looks the same. I put my Easter James Avery Bracelet in a jar 1/27. I’ll soon pull it out. I’ll pull my Christmas Charm Necklace right after Halloween. Finger crossed there’s no tarnish, even minimal tarnishing would be Fabulously welcome. Hoping this works. I just don’t know how often I need to suck the air out. I’m thinking it’s supposed to be out until I unseal it. But since you can’t see air, it’s hard to tell. Anybody know how to tell if it’s really sealed, short of opening it? Is there a trick? Or do you just have to trust it?
At some point I’ll start sealing dry goods. Maybe my chip clip will be a thing of the past. As well as my cherished Tupperware I purchased the larger machine with the hose attachment. It’s much quieter than the smaller one which I retuned. I had too many errors with it. It was temperamental. I did seal some seriously fragrant garden herbs we grew in some mason jars and sucked out the air with these lids. I will say I can’t smell anything.
I’ll post more when I open the mason jars with the jewelry.
Thomas M Viera, Jr : Large mouth is perfect, smaller is challenging
We use this product 3-5 times a week. The large mouth opening sealer works perfectly 99% of the time. And for those jars, the seal is strong, and super simple to complete. The small mouth sealer is 50%-50% as to if it will seal or not. I can't determine why this is the case, but it is so frequent an issue that I have purchased more large mouth jars so that I can sealer them easier. I started using this with my sealer and the accessory tube, but then I bought the hand held unit in order to make it faster and easier to use. Works very well with both the tube or the handheld unit.
BILL H : Have to improvise but it works good
Great product and delivered fast. Only cost $22.+. Been looking online for months. Everyone else, like eBay, selling for up to $100. NOW I SEE THE RUB. HOSE DOES NOT FIT FOOD SAVER TIGHT ENOUGH TO PULL A VACUUM. HAD TO IMPROVISE. SEE VIDEO
Tennessee shopper : no more fuzzy green surprises
I had some of these before but after moving 3 times, I either lost them or haven't found the obscure box where they are packed.
These are great! I use my mason jars, and lids that have been previously used in canning. I can store my leftovers - soup, veggies, fruit, salad - if it fits in the jar, I store it there. Then using the Jar Adapter, I remove the air. The leftovers last so much longer - no more fuzzy green surprises!
mom to four : Do not buy!
Stay away from this combo. The regular mouth sealer had the blue vacuum ring come off on the FIRST lid I sealed. I was able to get it back in place but it continued to be a problem.
The wide mouth sealer is designed differently and I didn’t have a problem with it. If you want to vacuum seal mason jars use the wide mouth, and do NOT buy this combo unit.
If you read all the reviews many folks have had this issue in the past. I figured it was worth a shot, maybe the redesigned it. NOPE.
Stay away for now.
Elaine Parker : Very easy to use and does a great job
We have started preserving our herbs and other foods via freeze drying/dehydrating and read that using Mason jars for dry goods and including O2 packets to the foods help regulate the humidity and therefore when used correctly inhibit bacteria and spoilage. So far I've used these in freeze dried raw eggs as well as homemade beef jerky. Both foods have been shelf stored since the holidays and they're still in great shape.
This jar sealer option for a vacuum sealer does a great job. The suction does a great job of sealing the lids when used properly.

I doubt FoodSaver is going to make it right and reimburse me for the lost dried goods due to their product not properly sealing new unused jars.
mom to four : Do not buy!

Works great, the small one doesn't always work but I found a trick to it. After running the suction remove the food saver extension from the sealer and THEN remove this sealer off of the jar. If you remove the sealer from the jar while the food saver is connected the lid will come off, almost always.
Oldster : Experiment First
I bought both the regular and large mouth sizes. The regular works very well but the wide mouth takes some work to get a good seal. Using new lids is a must from what I have learned. If you bought one and are having trouble, get new lids. If that does not work, you may have to double the lids to get the seal. Best thing I can say is learn to use it on jars before you try to seal something for long term storage.
Janice : Makes food last. Saves money.
Makes mason jar and other storage jars so much better! The airtight seal keeps nuts, marshmallows, bird food, salads and fruits, so much more, last longer. I use them for my homemade yogurt, to keep it longer. I meal prep and seal jars for the week--onions, celery, whatever will be needed. Easy to use and clean. Saves so much money, too!
