Preface: i'm not looking to fish in the ocean. just lakes. i have an okuma 12 foot surg rod. is this reel too small for that rod?
Answer: No, the reel is not too small for the rod. You should have plenty of line capacity for your application.

would it be a good reel to take the Kenai?
Answer: The Classic pro reel should work fine. If you are looking for carbon drags and high density gears, i would suggest checking out the Convector or Coldwater reels.
Answer: This reel is pretty solid. It's great if you don't have to be accurate with your casts. I use it for catfishing in a lake, where I just cast out and let the bait sit. If you plan to visit Kenai Alaska then I assume you will be Salmon fishing on a river. This reel wouldn't be my first choice for that purpose. Hope that helps.

I currently am looking for a reel similar size to a kastking rover 50?, would this be it, similar price?
Answer: they make a 200 model that would be closer in size the 300clx holds 420 yds 20lb mono. Where the Kastking only holds 200yd 20lb mono.
Answer: it is probably 2 sizes above it - that kast king is a copy of the Abu Garcia models and I have a 7000 model - I would say that the Okuma's are about the same size as the 7000 but they are lighter and much less costly - you won't notice the weight though - they are extremely light weight but I pull in big catfish on them all the time.
Answer: yes a great reel
Answer: Should be about same been using this feel for 5 years very pleased with them as have 6 of them
Q:
Why did the price jump so much on these reels?
Answer: Manufacturing costs
Q:

Is this one right hand retrieve?
Answer: yes
Q:
Which size would you recommend for 30-50# flatheads

Q:
Can I use this for rock cod fishing? And how much line can it hold?
Answer: It can hold about 300 yards of 30 lb mono
Q:
I dont see a linecouner in the pic? Does it come with a linecounter?
Answer: For the surf you won’t need a counter, just get multi color string
Q:
Can this reel be used for for surfishing
Answer: Yes - the spool is very lightweight and if you are good at timing your thumb on the reel you can keep it from back lashing. I would use at least an 8 foot or bigger rod and at least a one ounce weight. These are primarily boat reels but nothing says you can't use them for surf fishing - usually spinning reels are ideal for that though - less skill required and work well with lighter weight. The biggest advantage of this type of reel is the clutch system - they are great for fighting bigger fish.
Answer: Yes, they are pretty stout for the price.
Answer: No
Q:
I’m thinking of pairing this reel (cox-300la) with the okuma 12’ longtitude graphite surf rod. (#lc-c-1202h-1). is this a good combo? thanks
Answer: no if your doing surf fishing this isn't reel you want, do a open spool or if your experienced enough use a bait caster
Q:
Will this work for left handed?
Answer: I do not know, I am right handed
Answer: No
Q:
Can the power handle be changed out to a paddle/Revo Toro type handle with the larger knobs? I prefer the other styles to power handles.
Answer: We do not have any other handle options for the Classic Levelwind stardrag reel. We do have them available on some of our high performance reels but not for the Classic.
Answer: I never tried to change the handle.
Q:
Could you use it for snagging spoonbill with 100lb test line?
Answer: It's not horrible for casting but not great. Better off with a large spinning reel for spoonbill.
Answer: I am sure you could but unsure if the drag would hold up for extended use. Might want to look into the Convector or Coldwater Series.
Answer: No, this reel is for 2 day old gizzard shad! JUST kidding, I use mine for any big fish in fresh water & some salt water
Q:
Has anyone owned one long enough to report how they hold up?
Answer: Had these for a little over a year now fishing for freshwater stripers up to about 30 pounds. Great value for the price and they are holding up well. if you want to target larger fish look at the larger size - the CLX-300
Answer: Had one for a season and it's a great value and holding up well; make sure to rinse it off well with fresh H2O.
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: I used it one fishing Season for saltwater in CA. Granted I am using this reel on my sabiki rod which is likely over kill. I only catch like 6 mackerel at a time with it. I am happy with it. I was looking for something inexpensive that I could put on my sabiki rod.
Answer: Had it out about 15 times and no problems so far .

Answer: Yes it does have although I very seldom us it- I just sit & relax, watching my 3 or 4 rods. This is my quite time with my Lord
Answer: It does! Keep in mind this reel is NOT meant for casting only trolling.
Answer: yes it ans its loud

dgshel : THIS IS NOT A LINE COUNTER REEL
Is advertised as a "line counter" reel, but is not. When it arrives you find out it is a "levelwind" reel. I am using it but it was not as advertised on amazon
alec emery : The perfect reel!
I love this reel! The only issue I had was the delivery. I live in an apartment building. Without calling me, the delivery person left it outside the front door. Thankfully this reel has nothing to do with delivery, and I highly recommend it..just not the delivery lol
G McClain : Fantastic Value Own 3 now
I like the size Variations for spooling line sizes. Simplicity gives way to durability. I use these for catfishing in North America. CLX-200La = 20lb test mono = 5kg Drag CLX-300La = 30lb test mono = 6kg Drag ClX-450La = 50lb test mono = 6kg Drag
Dislike CLX-450La max drag performance its drag should run around 7kg to 8 kg to keep with progression of the product line.
jeremy : Impressive for the price
I have 2 clx300la and 1 clx450la. Both all three reels perform flawlessly. Matched them up with 12' okuma longitude rods, 50lb braid on 1 300la and 450la..40lb mono on the other 300la. All 3 cast smooth, the 300la with mono will cast 90yards with 5oz weight 2oz bait. 450la and other 300la with braid 6oz weight 2oz bait will cast 110. Not bad for a reel under $50.

It makes an annoying noise when working (even with the clicker turned off) and the drag lever doesn't work properly. When you put the drag lever down to free spool position and turn the handle, the spool still moves, slowly. Watch the attached video for the noise issue, i think it's the anti reverse mechanism. I don't expect miracle since it only costs about 60 bucks, but I hate this type of noise.
Jennifer and Jeremy : I love okuma........but
I love Okuma reels and rods, but these reels are stiff on letting out line. I have tried to adjust them, oil them, and loosen drag etc. The line has to be stripped out by hand even with 8 ounce weights pulling on them. I have tried to contact the customer service and have not gotten a response, but to be fair to Okuma, this was new years week, and will give them time to answer. If they contact me and at-least try to fix the issue with me, I will adjust the rating.
Jack : Five Stars
good reel for downrigging
Amazon Customer : Its a good reel for the price
Its a good reel for the price. Bought it for catfishing. Does a good job but casting isnt as smooth as my abu garcia C3 or bass pro catmaxx. I would recommend it for fishing off a boat or bank where there isnt a lot of trees and stuff. Good reel for the money and quality seems high.

clayton glore : Five Stars
Love it.
Hayden Forleo : Great!
Used it once. works really well for how much it is
Stephen Ferrell : Great deal for the money!
These are the bees knees for big, tenacious fish! I have caught dozens of monster channel catfish and flatheads on these as well as some significant Lake Sturgeon. They kind of suck when it comes to casting as the spool tensioner knob doesn’t provide enough drag to prevent backlash. But as long as you don’t need to launch 6 ounces of lead 80 yards you should be just fine. I paired these with some Rippin’ Lips medium heavy casting rods and they feel like a match made in heaven. I will buy more in the future and I recommend them to friends and colleagues all the time.
Jose E Guzman : Best value in saltwater level reels
Great quality for the price. Works better than expected.
jamesfrazier : Nice reel for small fish

Amazon Customer : Good real
Like the real waiting on weather to change to catch some on it
Ed Polz : Annoying
Spool release doesn't work half the time, very annoying having to cycle the lever multiple times to get it to release. Would send back if I had saved the box
