Will this pair with a 6'6" Shimano Tevala for long cod, salmon and halibut?

Answer: Usually if fishing for cod ling halibut you would use a conventional reel better torque

Answer: Yes but you don't want to go with a large reel, I think the smallest they make is the 4000. If not the 6000 is a little larger but same drag in lbs. hope this answers your question. And remember they do not have auto bail!

Answer: I have never fished for any of those species. I use it for dolphin, snapper, kingfish, snook etc. They have a great drag. I would say if you size the rod and reel properly with the rod it should be fine.

Answer: Gonna want to go with a 8000 it looks like.. just for depth really, break off once on a smaller reel and you may not be able to hit bottom on the same spool

Answer: 10k. More line capacity, more drag power, about the same weight. Rod will depend on type of presentation. Live bait, jigs, or if your using heavy weights or not.

Answer: I have been using the Saragosa SW6000's for about 2 years with 30lb braid and love them. They cast live bait as far as any reel I have used including both Penn and other Shimano reels (Sustain ). Oversized handle is a nice feature and smooth drags with high max drag settings are great to lock down and pull big mutton snapper and grouper off the bottom. We have used them to catch football tunas, dolphin and kings. Never had a failure and would buy them again.

Specifically, which Shimano spinning reels are still made in Japan?

Answer: The Saragosa is made in Malaysia. The Stella is made in Japan as well as the Twin Power. Regardless the Saragosa is a great reel and can do 95% of what the Stella can at 1/4 the cost. I own both and I’m not just being biased.

Answer: These are Power Pro line 40/340,50/265,65/215 for SARAGOSA SW 8000.

Answer: If it is a Shimsno Zaragoza 8000, it should be comparable regarding line capacity. Shimano stella is a finer and more expensive reel

Answer: I personally love Shimano reels for their performance. If I was after Salmon in Alaska I would want a Shimano Tritan lever drag TLD20 spooled with 50 power pro braid and 15 yds of 50 flourcarbon, mounted on a Shimano Terez TZCX66HBLK

Answer: I can't answer specifically why. But I have both. And the stradics are not as saltworthy as the saragosa. By no means. I upgraded all my stradics. (4) to saragosas

Answer: 10000 will cast further than 8000 using braided line

Answer: On the 1000 the spool diameter is bigger and the drag is 6 pounds stronger than 8000

Would you recommend this reel for Surf Fishing?

Answer: I've used my 10000 for surf fishing with no problems. The reel is somewhat sealed this helps keep saltwater out but avoid submerging it as much as possible. The worst possible thing is the sand so don't lay it down. Always rinse it off after using and it will last much longer.

Answer: I would use the 10,000 series or the new surf reel Shimano offers its a better spool design for longer casts.

Answer: I use mine for surf fishing... the 33lb drag is like a winch lol and super smooth reeling... havent had any issues with the salt either... light spray down when you get home and your ready for the next trip.

Answer: It is a manual engage. The first thing to break on a heavily used reel is the bail spring. I use every model of this reel on my charter boat. They're great. Most of the reels that have an auto close, I remove the spring.

Answer: I used 30# braid with no backing. Not sure how much backing you'd be able to put with 50# braid. I spooled my own and it is not TIGHT enough. It slips. I would call a shop that spools reels and ask them. I would be guessing if I answered. Sorry.

I want to build a spinning outfit for 20-40 lb. yellowfin fishing south of San Diego. Meduim duty stuff. What size reel to buy? .

Answer: I am in San Diego and have a Saragosa 6000 on a Super Seeker 15-25 lb rod. This is a great setup for schoolie yellowfin and yellowtail.

Answer: A 5000 is perfect for that size. I am in Africa catching 50+ lb threadfin on a 5000.
