Does this come with a strap to secure it to the tree above your head? Unclear based on description and answers so far

Answer: If you are wearing a harness with a tail ( safty strap) off it, you simply clip it on at the bottom of the tree ,climb the tree and you are secure once you get to the top. You don't need another strap or rope on the top of the tree to attach to your harness. You are already set.

Answer: No strap. You take the loop end of the lifeline and wrap it around the tree and feed the life line through the loop and pull down. It come with instructions as well.

Is it true these are only good for 2 months?

Answer: They'll last two months but they're not long enough for a lot of tree stands.

Answer: The harness is definitely needed. There are several optional add ons to the basic harness and tree strap - this is one of them. I have the basic harness and this and love it.

Answer: It is incredibly strong, heavy duty, mountain climber quality rope. You should have absolutely no concerns at all in using this within a treestand climbing situation.

Answer: Christopher, you can use a Life-Line with a Climbing Treestand, but it is not ideal. The Life-Line is designed to stay at 1 tree for the duration of the hunting season, so it is ideal for Ladders and Lock-Ons. The best product to use in conjunction with a Climber Stand is our Rope-Style Treestrap. Hope this helps!

Answer: I would not be afraid to try it with a climbing stand if I was going to hunt the same spot often. However it could be tricky to keep the rope from getting caught in the teeth of the climber. Keep in mind in order for the system to function well the bottom of the line needs to be tight. I use it on all my lock ons and don't know why I waited this long to buy one. It took a 20 foot fall to get my attention.

Answer: I do. And don’t see the issue. Just raise it as you go. May add 1 minute to your climb. If you’re hunting same place just leave it until you’re done. The tension alone will tighten the strap if a problem occurs, just shimmy it up as you go. I can’t see how the rope style is more efficient.

Answer: Great question, Zach. The answer is yes, absolutely you can. Instead of tying off the bottom of the rope the base of the tree, though, tie it off to the base of your ladder. That way you can slide the knot up and down the rope with 1 hand.

Answer: Not really. You put this up after you have set up a fixed stand. Now, every time you climb up or down you are safe. If you use the climber on the same tree, then it would work. However, you wouldn't need a climber then.

Answer: Somewhat difficult. You would have to put the strap around the tree at ground level before you started to climb. As you ascended the tree you would also have to move the strap that you put loosely around the tree as you go up. Once you were at the level you want to hunt from tighten the strap around the tree. Better to buy the HSS "tree strap" that comes with a Lyman's belt that you can use on the way up. You should always be attached to the tree no matter what you do. Answer: Not sure what you are asking but yes you can use this with a climbing tree stand, it's what I use. You just slid it up the tree above the upper part of the stand as you go up. Then, you leave it on the tree when you go down and it is ready when you use it the next time. When you are done with that tree you just slid it down as you descend for the last time. I love it and feel much safer using it.

Answer: It's steel. Aluminum is not considered strong or safe enough.

Answer: I would want to know the cause of the fall. Did I hook in correctly? Did the system fail from being out in the elements? I’ve never had a fall so likely that I would buy another.

Answer: This is my first Hunter Safety System and really do not know. At 82 years old, I sure do feel much safer climbing 20 feet up to my stands. I have four stands up and use the rope from ground to stand. I am hooked up to the rope at all times I am sure your system would hook up but being that old I would go with a new vest and ropes. The new Lifeline ropes are reflective which makes it easy to spot.

Answer: Diane, you dont have to worry about the deer spotting you. Some people are concerned about other hunters spotting their stands, so they choose non-reflective. They are both equally safe, though!

Answer: The Lifeline is the tether. To set it up you climb to the top of your stand wrap the loop around the tree put the single end through the loop and lower all the slack down, at the bottom of the tree tie off the slack. Clip your harness onto one of the carabiners as you climb push the knot up ahead of you. Once you get to your stand at the top your done you stay connected the entire time. I like how much more mobility I have as apposed to be tethered right at the tree.

Answer: Umm. . . this is the tether. It has a pre-tied loop you slide the rest of the line through and pull it tight. The knots slide up and down the rope with a little nudge from you as you ascend/descend. The tether from your safety harness attaches to the caribeaner provided with the rope.

If the Lifeline gets completely wet, through and through, will the Prusik knot still grab the Lifeline and stop you from falling?

Answer: I would guess yes. Because the way the knot is designed. It slips up and down by hand but when the loop of the knot is pulled down it tightens the knot and grabs the rope. I'm not a professional. Was wondering if we can see it glow with a light on it, can the deer see it? Good luck hunting.

They attach to the tree above and are meant to be used in the climbing & descending phase when entering any style of stand (except climbers), plus that vulnerable time when you first enter the stand and hook up your vest belt to the tree. This is my when my hang on stand broke last year and I fell. If I would have had these there wouldn't have been a problem.

So how does this actually work when you fall?

Answer: It is almost like a slipnot. As you are climbing tree, pole, etc. You move the knot up as you go. If you slip and fall. Your bodyweight tightens the knot keeping you from crashing to the ground. It's almost like a brake.

Answer: Yes. I would go a step further and say it should be used any time you are using a climber or a lock on deer stand. I would just run it outside the climber so the rope is clear as you are climbing. Just slide the knot up as you go. Safety first always have a plan in case you fall.

Answer: In order for the life line to be used effectively the life line must first be anchored to the tree to the height just above where you intend to put your climber. Once the life line is anchored and used according to instructions it is by far the best safety advice you can use.

What is the max load rating of the rope?

Answer: I believe it is 300lbs - but the rope's load rating isn't the critical parameter. The way the system works - the load rating that matters is the rating for the harness that you are wearing. The strap that runs from the harness to the lifeline will bear the most direct weight in a fall. My wife and I used the system all season. It works well, is secure and we really like how we are tied in from the ground all the way up to the stand.

Answer: Don’t know the rating but have a friend who weighs around 250 and he uses the system. Works well on 25’ stands.

Well made and easy to use. Quiet. I purchased with the HSS harness and this lifeline also works as a tree strap. I bought a climbers runner/lanyard (its basically a lanyard that can handle 300lbs hanging from it) for $8 from my local REI to use with my harnesses front tree climbers loops and the life lines carabiner. I run the runner through the loops and connect it to the carabiner. This helps with bulky clothing. May only be necessary on my harness as it didn't have a devoted loop for the lifeline.

I personally know people who have been badly injured by incidents w/ lockons and climbers. I never used to use those uncomfortable and difficult harnesses that the stands are required to come with. Having 3 little girls at home makes me think a little differently about falling out of a tree having climbed countless trees and hung stands for years without any protection...

I tell anybody I know now the same advice I received after almost falling 30 feet from an ol man climber... BUY A COMFORTABLE HARNESS SO YOU WILL WEAR IT. A good HSS, I have the flex hybrid, you will love and will become part of your essential gear - comfortable and super simple to put on. I have a tree climber line for my climbers and bought this as I have always been leery of lock-on stands and careful to closely inspect cables and hardware. I still do that but know from the time I clip into the line at the bottom on the prussit knot I'm secured. Plus I just have a bowline knot in the bottom I just clip my bag to and climb up then hoist my gear once situated.

If you have a loved one, significant other that hunts climbers or lockons - buy them a HSS and appropriate lines and they will wear it, you can rest assured you won't get that call. I was stubborn and ignorant to not have one before, and thankful that a close call was what woke me up and prompted me to start using the HSS products. Having gotten a text from a buddy that fell 25' and crawled to get cell signal to find them with both legs badly broken, helped them get out and watched them lose their job... I STILL didn't use one. Now, I don't climb without it.

This system is awesome and safe. It is easier to install than any other strap system I've used. You just have to slip the rope through the loop above your stand. I wish they didn't switch to reflective line. I don't think it is necessary. I know where my stands are; all that does is let everyone else know where they are and I'm almost convinced that moonlight will reflect off of it. Probably overthinking it, but hey, that's what we hunters do.

If you are hunting in a stand, please just buy this. Do the smart thing, weather you are 10 feet or 25 feet in the air it is always better to be safe than sorry. This is so easy to use and if it saves you from an accident than $45 bucks is nothing to pay. Stop reading reviews and just grab this before you get in your stand ever again.

Thankfully have not tested how well it works in a fall... but the rope is sturdy as well as the knot. I am terrified of heights and this makes me feel a little better. every time I go up I try to go up a little higher each time. At first with the strap I was using I was concerned about what to do if the stand fell and now I'm hanging from a tree... now I use this so that if the stand falls I can now use this rope to repel down the tree.

Again, I hope that I never have to test this but it's not worth the risk to not use this or something similar.

Awesome safety line. This rope is far superior to the traditional tree strap I was using before. It stays tight, is easily adjustable when moving up/down the tree, and the rubber bell over the caribeaner keeps it from clanging around and making noise. The rope is HIGHLY reflective and very easy to find in the dark.

I Returned to Amazon in the end.
The package had all 3 lines, but one of them was missing a Carabiner. Also, the lines "expire" after 2 years of manufacturer according to the label, which set their expiration date to 5/2019. So, I could have only used them for one hunting season. I tried to call HSS to resolve the issue, and the line transferred to a full voice mailbox. The best thing for me to do at that point was return them to Amazon.
The reason I am giving it a two star vs one: The lines seemed to be more stout than the summit life line. I believe they would work well if you got a set worth having.

For several years I have bought new rope and made my own prussic knot. Yes it worked, but I was never really comfortable with my DIY safety line. I actually bought this one for less than I was spending on my DIY safety line. I have now used it multiple times and it performs much better than my DIY safety line. With the ease of use and safety record of the Hunter Safety System, I'll never make my own safety line again.

Easy to install in trees and reflects light from my headlamp in the morning making finding my tree stands easier. Prussic knot releases and locks without too much effort. Have not used it in the rain or snow yet but do not trust a prussic knot in those conditions.

Most falls happen while climbing up or down. Most hunters clip in once they are up in their stand. This lets you clip in at the bottom, and slide the prusik knot up and down as you enter and exit your stand. Ask for it for xmas or something. Your family will thank you.

This is a great safety device. I got it for my 13 year old son for when he hunts in a treestand and this really makes him and myself feel safe. It is easy to set up and it works fantastic. It also glows in the dark so when you hit it with a flashlight in the morning when it's dark out it's easy to locate. I would recommend this to anybody who wants to hunt off the ground.

Hunting from a tree stand requires risk assessment and this product certainly lowers the risk of hitting the ground if I were to fall from my 20 foot stand. The rubber cow bell cover is very nice but my scent on the cow bell attracted a bear who easily chewed and destroyed the cow bell.

great product , easy to set up and helps encourage hunter safety while climbing in and out of a tree stand. the reflective properties is absolutely awesome. i have not fell out of my stand and put the product to use so take everything i say with that in mind but the knot system used to go up and down the main line does lock down when pressure is applied to the loop so i would like to think if one day i do take a fall that it will not be to the ground while using this product.. .

I'm not a fan of heights so this line gave me an extra bit of security while climbing up the tree with tree steps as well as sitting in the stand. Yes, you could tie your own prussic knot but this way I knew I was buying a well-made, quality rope & carabineer to attach to my safety harness. (And if you are still using the cheap safety harness that came with your stand, buy one of the Hunter Safety system harnesses. Lightweight and no fiddling with cheap straps).

Buyin' stuff : Good, but damn that reflective material is BRIGHT.

Works great on ladder stands and climbing sticks. Works ok with climber. Not sure how long it is but I had to tie a piece of another rope to the bottom so I could use it with one of my higher stands (climber). The carabiner is stout and the plastic "cowbell" keeps if from banging on metal. The prussic knot rope is heavy and slides easily up and down the lifeline and only when you want it to. I haven't fallen but It sure seems like this system will work.
My only complain is the reflective material. We've had problems with stolen stands and I don't need a beacon in the woods that scream HERE I AM, COME GET ME. I'm wondering if deer can see it too with the right light conditions? I'm leaving one rope out for the season to see if the reflection diminishes over time. Going to see if I can remove the reflective strand without damaging the rope on another one.

You should never climb into a tree stand without one of these lifelines. They are better than hospitalization insurance and they cost less than your deductible! These come with a heavy-duty carabiner attached to each line which makes it easy to attach to your safety harness strap. Don't leave home without it! With three (3) of them there is no excuse not to have one on each tree stand.

Hunting blacktail deer in Western Oregon is a tight quarters affair. The last two times using this product, I had deer within 10 yards stare at the rope dangling next to the tree and today, it spooked them. I'd recommend securing this to the base of the tree or pull up the slack once you are done climbing. As for ease of use and quality, this product had more than met my needs.

One of these and a hunter safety system vest saved my life today. The strap on the set of climbing sticks broke as I was stepping from the stand to the sticks to get out. Absolutely did it’s job and kept me from falling 15 to 20’feet to the ground. I was able to get back on the sticks and get to the ground safely with only a cut that required a few stitches. Please don’t climb without these!!!!

I really thought this would be overkill and more of a hassle than I wanted to deal with. Obviously the transition from platform to ladder is the most dangerous part about stand hunting and that is exactly where this product excels. I'm 52 now and still love to climb as high as I can into a tree. I have used a strap and vest for many years and enjoy the peace of mind it offers. It seemed silly to not have any safety for those tricky ladder to stand maneuvers. This was simple to install and use, I feel much better about the whole affair. Just need to get a couple more for other stands. Highly recommend.

Bought four, need four more. The older I get the more I like the idea of remaining attached. My stands are 25' add my 6' height I need at least thirty feet plus.. Wish they were a little longer. Plus anticipate losing a few feet wrapping around the base of the tree. Some of my trees are crooked and I use an assortment of steps, meaning it is difficult to make a straight line going up or down. they work ideal on a straight up tree with ladder stir that go straight up. Still good. On the ones that come up short I will use a screw in step somewhere to anchor the bottom. Meaning I'll hook on as I ascend even if I'm a few feet up???

I bought 2 of these for my ladder stands and hunted with them equally over the last year. Both were stored together and should have pretty close to equal wear and tear. Last week I noticed that one does not hold properly. Fortunately I found out without falling. I checked the other and it is working properly. I also noticed that the prussick knots were tied differently. I swapped it out with a new lifeline and the new one was tied like the other. My conclusion is that the knot on the defective one was not tied properly. I will say that I do like the product in general, just make sure that you test it before using.

These lifelines are incredibly well made from the rope and knots to the carabiner and rubber protective dohickey. It’s all you need (besides the harness) to ensure a safe return home. I also purchased a couple Field and Stream lifelines (essentially the same thing) which I felt were also high quality however I would give them a 4.5 Star rating for a comparison.

I was not sure if this would be good or not. So I took a risk. I will say that from here on out if I have another tree stand this is what I will buy. It lights up at night which making finding your stand in the early morning that much easier and all you have to do is hook up and go up. You are safe the whole way up. I highly recommend this to any who are buying safety equipment for your tree stand.

I didn't buy it for the reflective feature necessarily, but wow does that work well! It made finding my stand easy while hiking in before sunrise. As soon as my headlamp hit it, it looked like someone had hung a rope light in the tree!

I was a little nervous about using this with my climbing stand after reading some of the Q&A about this is not for climbing stands...I BEG TO DIFFER! This was PERFECT! You have both hands free as you make your way up the tree with a climber (after pulling your top section up and before making the next "step") and it is VERY easy to move the rope up the tree as you climb. If you are going to leave your climber in place for a while it is even easier the next time as you slide the knot up the rope as you go. Once at the top you can even use the rope as a hoist for your pack/weapon. I cannot understand for the life of me why it would be said this is not for climbing stands.

As expected but does not “Accommodate stands up to 30 feet“. I guess maybe it would if you wanted to hunt from a 5” diameter tree. Once you tie it off you get about 20’ usability not 30’. No big deal other than I have to connect after the first few steps up the sticks. You shouldn’t be higher than 25’ anyway

I use it on a fixed stand that has a nearly vertical ladder. I’m 75 and agile enough to use the ladder but I’m not always wide awake early in the morning and the rungs might have moisture on them. Better safe than sorry.

What a great product that gives you a much better sense of security while climbing. Plus the reflective rope is super easy to see at night. Definitely a better option than just a safety strap at the top of the tree that you only attach to after climbing. I had a buddy fall last year that was inches away from being super serious. He still has lasting pain in his hands from the fall but it would have all been avoided with this product.

Haven't used it!! well, actually i have hung from it to make sure it holds, and it worked well. going up and down with it was very easy for me and one of the boys. Makes me wonder why i would ever go without the extra safety. (the rope can be seen forever a way using a flashlight at night). hope i never use it!

The Hunter Safety System Reflective Lifeline is great. It is easy to put up and use. I like the reflective quality of the rope for that walk in before light.
I never used a harness or safety rope until recently. As I am still climbing into tree stands at age 69, I figured I better be more careful. I feel much more comfortable now in the stand and since I'm more comfortable, I'm more confident.
Even after a short cat nap in the stand, one late afternoon, I was able to easily make a "quick killing" shot of a doe with my cross bow. I was surprised by how much better I feel sitting in the stand; and also getting into the stand safely. This is a great product.
