Does this come with a strap to secure it to the tree above your head? Unclear based on description and answers so far

Answer: If you are wearing a harness with a tail ( safty strap) off it, you simply clip it on at the bottom of the tree ,climb the tree and you are secure once you get to the top. You don't need another strap or rope on the top of the tree to attach to your harness. You are already set.

Answer: No strap. You take the loop end of the lifeline and wrap it around the tree and feed the life line through the loop and pull down. It come with instructions as well.

Answer: Christopher, you can use a Life-Line with a Climbing Treestand, but it is not ideal. The Life-Line is designed to stay at 1 tree for the duration of the hunting season, so it is ideal for Ladders and Lock-Ons. The best product to use in conjunction with a Climber Stand is our Rope-Style Treestrap. Hope this helps!

Answer: I would not be afraid to try it with a climbing stand if I was going to hunt the same spot often. However it could be tricky to keep the rope from getting caught in the teeth of the climber. Keep in mind in order for the system to function well the bottom of the line needs to be tight. I use it on all my lock ons and don't know why I waited this long to buy one. It took a 20 foot fall to get my attention.

Answer: I do. And don’t see the issue. Just raise it as you go. May add 1 minute to your climb. If you’re hunting same place just leave it until you’re done. The tension alone will tighten the strap if a problem occurs, just shimmy it up as you go. I can’t see how the rope style is more efficient.

Answer: Not really. You put this up after you have set up a fixed stand. Now, every time you climb up or down you are safe. If you use the climber on the same tree, then it would work. However, you wouldn't need a climber then.

Answer: Somewhat difficult. You would have to put the strap around the tree at ground level before you started to climb. As you ascended the tree you would also have to move the strap that you put loosely around the tree as you go up. Once you were at the level you want to hunt from tighten the strap around the tree. Better to buy the HSS "tree strap" that comes with a Lyman's belt that you can use on the way up. You should always be attached to the tree no matter what you do. Go to HSS web site for instruction on the tree strap. The Tree strap and lifeline together.

Answer: Not sure what you are asking but yes you can use this with a climbing tree stand, it's what I use. You just slid it up the tree above the upper part of the stand as you go up. Then, you leave it on the tree when you go down and it is ready when you use it the next time. When you are done with that tree you just slid it down as you descend for the last time. I love it and feel much safer using it.

Answer: This is my first Hunter Safety System and really do not know. At 82 years old, I sure do feel much safer climbing 20 feet up to my stands. I have four stands up and use the rope from ground to stand. I am hooked up to the rope at all times I am sure your system would hook up but being that old I would go with a new vest and ropes. The new Lifeline ropes are reflective which makes it easy to spot.

Answer: Diane, you dont have to worry about the deer spotting you. Some people are concerned about other hunters spotting their stands, so they choose non-reflective. They are both equally safe, though!

Answer: The Lifeline is the tether. To set it up you climb to the top of your stand wrap the loop around the tree put the single end through the loop and lower all the slack down, at the bottom of the tree tie off the slack. Clip your harness onto one of the carabiners as you climb push the knot up ahead of you. Once you get to your stand at the top your done you stay connected the entire time. I like how much more mobility I have as apposed to be tethered right at the tree.

Answer: Umm. . . this is the tether. It has a pre-tied loop you slide the rest of the line through and pull it tight. The knots slide up and down the rope with a little nudge from you as you ascend/descend. The tether from your safety harness attaches to the caribeaner provided with the rope.

Answer: I would guess yes. Because the way the knot is designed. It slips up and down by hand but when the loop of the knot is pulled down it tightens the knot and grabs the rope. Answer: It is almost like a slipnot. As you are climbing tree, pole, etc. You move the knot up as you go. If you slip and fall. Your bodyweight tightens the knot keeping you from crashing to the ground. It's almost like a brake.

Answer: Yes. I would go a step further and say it should be used any time you are using a climber or a lock on deer stand. I would just run it outside the climber so the rope is clear as you are climbing. Just slide the knot up as you go. Safety first always have a plan in case you fall.

Answer: In order for the life line to be used effectively the life line must first be anchored to the tree to the height just above where you intend to put your climber. Once the life line is anchored and used according to instructions it is by far the best safety advice you can use.

Answer: I believe it is 300lbs - but the rope's load rating isn't the critical parameter. The way the system works - the load rating that matters is the rating for the harness that you are wearing. The strap that runs from the harness to the lifeline will bear the most direct weight in a fall. My wife and I used the system all season. It works well, is secure and we really like how we are tied in from the ground all the way up to the stand.

I don't do well with heights, never have. And I have NO IDEA how my friends climb into tree stands without these safety lines.

The line is long enough for our tallest stand, and putting it on always gives me the extra confidence I need to get my but in that tree.

I took my first deer with a bow while attached to one of these.

Havnig three was awesome. I put one in each stand and left them up all season. I did take them down after season to prevent extra weathering.

An absolute must for all tree stand hunters. There's no reason to risk it; not when they're $30/line.

I have used H&S safety lineman rope for several years without a hitch in product quality. Thankful to say that I haven't had the opportunity to use this rope for its intended use. (Due to falling out of my stands) ???? I've seen a post that questioned the life of this system, and I find it necessary to address. Please reference the attached picture: replace after 2 years of service, not after manufacture date. If these instructions are not clear it might be best to stay out of trees, and better yet please do not hunt on my land. For the rest happy hunting & stay safe.

Well made and easy to use. Quiet. I purchased with the HSS harness and this lifeline also works as a tree strap. I bought a climbers runner/lanyard (its basically a lanyard that can handle 300lbs hanging from it) for $8 from my local REI to use with my harnesses front tree climbers loops and the life lines carabiner. I run the runner through the loops and connect it to the carabiner. This helps with bulky clothing. May only be necessary on my harness as it didn't have a devoted loop for the lifeline.

I finally bit the bullet and bought several of these. I looked at making them myself; however, by the time I were to buy the good climbing ropes and carabiners, it would have pretty much cost me what I paid for these anyway. They were easy to put up. HSS states these will accommodate a 30' tree stand; which they will, you'll just need to tie the bottom of the rope off at about shoulder height. It took me just a moment to work on going up and down the tree with the Prusik knot. It did not seem to take any longer to ascend or descend from my stand. If anything, the time is made up by not having to break out a tree strap to hook the harness into once I'm up.

Update: I am very happy w/the price of these. I paid $24.99 each through Amazon. Yesterday, I saw they are $39.99 each at Academy Sports.

Update Again: These things are reflective. You won't have any trouble finding your stand in the dark with these life-lines.

Last Update: Glad I bought 4 of these at once, because with Amazon's rolling prices they went from $24.99 to $29.98 right after I bought them.

Leo : Hunter Safety Systems claims the specificaitons for this rope are proprietary... really?

If you buy climbing rope from any reputable manufacturer, they provide specifications such as average or minimum breaking strength, number of strands, materials it's made out of, elongation, thickness, and weight. Hunter Safety Systems will only tell you that the rope is strong enough to not break if you fall, but won't they tell you anything else. Is there something to hide here? I won't be buying another and I wouldn't recommend buying it unless HSS provides safety information for this product.

Bought four, need four more. The older I get the more I like the idea of remaining attached. My stands are 25' add my 6' height I need at least thirty feet plus.. Wish they were a little longer. Plus anticipate losing a few feet wrapping around the base of the tree. Some of my trees are crooked and I use an assortment of steps, meaning it is difficult to make a straight line going up or down. they work ideal on a straight up tree with ladder stir that go straight up. Still good. On the ones that come up short I will use a screw in step somewhere to anchor the bottom. Meaning I'll hook on as I ascend even if I'm a few feet up???

These seem like a pain but they're painless! Easy to install, even easier to use and they work. I haven't fallen but I've definitely stepped off and tested these, you don't move an inch. and then to loosen it back up and move it after you've recovered is just as easy! makes climbing the tree or ladder that much safer.

Have used home made life lines for years but this product is awesome be using for most the bow season in kentucky now. It is still in great shape and still super easy to spot in the woods in the dark. Makes finding your stand a breeze. It's made well and isn't show no signs of wear and tear after all the time it has spent out side this season. Made this season a real joy to take my daughter out hunting she was able to find the stand easy and use the line properly after only being shown once how to hook up to it and slide the prusik knot. It is a really great investment for the safety of all hunters. An prevents you from stumbling around looking for your stand making a lot of unwanted noise in the woods.

Upon doing research for harass and life line systems we choose to go with this one. The quality of this rope is impressive. The materials are far superior to others we have owned in the past. My husband's safety is most important to me, he says when using this life line system he feels extremely safe, and ultimately loves this system. It's not heavy or clunky. It's extremely easy to install, so that being said I wouldn't leave it in your tree all season.

I hunt 20 ft up in my stands and nothing less. Before I used a harness and a tie down strap. Lol. With this system it gives me confidence climbing in, while in, and climbing out. Awesome safety line. This rope is far superior to the traditional tree strap I was using before. It stays tight, is easily adjustable when moving up/down the tree, and the rubber bell over the caribeaner keeps it from clanging around and making noise. The rope is HIGHLY reflective and very easy to find in the dark.

I am a bow-hunter and every year I hear of someone who died or was paralyzed from falling out of a tree or ladder stand. Most accidents happen climbing up or down the tree or ladder. I simply will not climb without a good rope and these are the best. I do have mixed feelings about the glow in the dark feature... They work really well but if you hunt in a area that is not absolutely private, I feel these just invite other hunters to your honey hole... I wish they made a non-glow version....

No big deal other than I have to connect after the first few steps up the sticks. You shouldn’t be higher than 25’ anyway

I purchased the HSS-LifeLine Safety System after my brother broke his heel from out of a tree stand as he was descending. Granted he was using a climber, and the HSS-LifeLine Safety System, but it got the family thinking! We have many permanent stands, and what happened to Joe could have happened to anyone.

The HSS-LifeLine Safety System is a thick-well constructed rope. It comes with a strong carabineer and the prussic knot is durable with a large opening …much larger knot that the MUDDY lifeline system. That is where the benefits end!

The HSS-LifeLine Safety System 3 pack is also about $20 more than the MUDDY Lifeline system 3 pack. The Muddy rope is a little thinner, but just as strong. It also doesn’t come with a carabineer; which I am figuring is the difference in price. I tried pricing out making them myself, but it was nearly a wash considering the ridiculously strong carabineer HSS includes with the ropes.

The HSS-LifeLine Safety System will do what it is designed to do – save your life! I used them this past season. On very cold days the prussic knot froze, but with a little tugging it became free and slid up and down the host rope as intended. However, if all your safety harness comes with carabineers, which the HSS-Safety Harnesses DO NOT, then you are probably better off going with the Muddy system.

There have been some critical reviews on different hunting blogs; archerytalk.com, stating that HSS is not using the correct rope – static v. dynamic fibers. I found the literature very fascinating, but it will not deter me from putting my life in its fiber strands!

In short, any LifeLine System can save your life. If you have a carabineer then choose the MUDDY or another brand. If not, go with HSS. My entire family uses HSS-harnesses. It only made sense, for us, to use the matching accessories. However, our next set will most likely be the MUDDY …why not try both if you have multiple stands.

This is literally a life saver! Get one. This hooks at the bottom of your tree and hooks right above your head in your stand. You then hook your harness to the prusik knot with the supplied carabiner and slide the knot all the way up the rope as your going up to your stand, If you fall at any moment it will ALWAYS catch you. I doesn't make you a man to not wear a harness! Just ignorant.

I don't do well with heights, never have. And I have NO IDEA how my friends climb into tree stands without these safety lines.

The line is long enough for our tallest stand, and putting it on always gives me the extra confidence I need to get my but in that tree.

Havnig three was awesome. I put one in each stand and left them up all season. I did take them down after season to prevent extra weathering.

I bought this double lifeline for this past season and was impressed with the quality. The reflective thread stood out well with a red headlamp on my pre-dawn walk to my stand. I live in Maine so the rubber shrouds are a nice way to keep snow and rain from freezing up the carabiners.

I unfortunately haven't been able to use this product out at my tree stand yet,but I have (lightly)tested it in the tree in the back yard. I can say that it works like it's supposed to. It's fairly easy to use( at least in the daylight but should be just about as easy in the dark). I think the next purchase from hunter safety systems will be their 30' life line. I've had really good luck with their products so far and haven't been disappointed yet.

When I ordered this product I wasn't sure how to use it, so what's this is, is 3 single pieces of rope with carabiners on each with a sliding knot on each that you hook your hunter safety harness onto. so this product works after you are done putting up your tree stand or get to the height to where you would be hunting at. then you wrap it around the tree and hang one end of the rope down and tired off with paracord, it does not come with paracordthis makes it much easier to slide the knot up and down the string then all you have to do is hook your hunter safety harness to it and climb and slide the knot. It's a great product and will prevent you from falling when used properly. I bought the three pack so I can use it multiple locations.

Charles L Roberge CPP : Check your gear before using

I bought 2 of these for my ladder stands and hunted with them equally over the last year. Both were stored together and should have pretty close to equal wear and tear. Last week I noticed that one does not hold properly. Fortunately I found out without falling. I checked the other and it is working properly. I also noticed that the prussick knots were tied differently. I swapped it out with a new lifeline and the new one was tied like the other. My conclusion is that the knot on the defective one was not tied properly. I will say that I do like the product in general, just make sure that you test it before using.

I use it on a fixed stand that has a nearly vertical ladder. I’m 75 and agile enough to use the ladder but I’m not always wide awake early in the morning and the rungs might have moisture on them. Better safe than sorry.

I have used H&S safety lineman rope for several years without a hitch in product quality. Thankful to say that I haven't had the opportunity to use this rope for its intended use. (Due to falling out of my stands) ???? I've seen a post that questioned the life of this system, and I find it necessary to address. Please reference the attached picture: replace after 2 years of service, not after manufacture date. If these instructions are not clear it might be best to stay out of trees, and better yet please do not hunt on my land. For the rest happy hunting & stay safe.

Amanda GaVette : Easy, safe, and convenient, but spooked deer today.

Hunting blacktail deer in Western Oregon is a tight quarters affair. The last two times using this product, I had deer within 10 yards stare at the rope dangling next to the tree and today, it spooked them. I'd recommend securing this to the base of the tree or pull up the slack once you are done climbing. As for ease of use and quality, this product had more than met my needs.

Cortney : Missing Carabiner/Almost Expired/Poor Customer Service HSS

I Returned to Amazon in the end.
The package had all 3 lines, but one of them was missing a Carabiner. Also, the lines "expire" after 2 years of manufacturer according to the label, which set their expiration date to 5/2019. So, I could have only used them for one hunting season. I tried to call HSS to resolve the issue, and the line transferred to a full voice mailbox. The best thing for me to do at that point was return them to Amazon.
The reason I am giving it a two star vs one: The lines seemed to be more stout than the summit life line. I believe they would work well if you got a set worth having.

I personally know people who have been badly injured by incidents w/ lockons and climbers. I never used to use those uncomfortable and difficult harnesses that the stands are required to come with. Having 3 little girls at home makes me think a little differently about falling out of a tree having climbed countless trees and hung stands for years without any protection...

I tell anybody I know now the same advice I received after almost falling 30 feet from an ol man climber... BUY A COMFORTABLE HARNESS SO YOU WILL WEAR IT. A good HSS, I have the flex hybrid, you will love and will become part of your essential gear - comfortable and super simple to put on. I have a tree climber line for my climbers and bought this as I have always been leery of lock-on stands and careful to closely inspect cables and hardware. I still do that but know from the time I clip into the line at the bottom on the prussit knot I'm secured. Plus I just have a bowline knot in the bottom I just clip my bag to and climb up then hoist my gear once situated.

If you have a loved one, significant other that hunts climbers or lockons - buy them a HSS and appropriate lines and they will wear it, you can rest assured you won't get that call. I was stubborn and ignorant to not have one before, and thankful that a close call was what woke me up and prompted me to start using the HSS products. Having gotten a text from a buddy that fell 25' and crawled to get cell signal to find them with both legs badly broken, helped them get out and watched them lose their job... I STILL didn't use one. Now, I don't climb without it.

This rope is designed to protect you from a fall on the way up to your tree stand. It requires the use of a safety harness to accomplish that task. It is a very simple design. The picture does not do justice to the actual item. It is made of some stout material. Installation does not take long and is straight forward - just follow the directions. I have used it since the start of bow season here in Texas. I haven't had any issues with it. Works exactly as advertised and on the companies videos (online or on the dvd that comes with your harness).
