Questions about Magnetic Net Release for Fly Fishing
Q:
How lbs of force to separate ?
Answer: I don't know the exact number but it is pretty hard to separate, will about pull your pants down if you tough too hard lol
Answer: I used a digital scale that measures my suitcase weights. It separated at 7.3 lbs., well over the weight of the net
Answer: I don't have anything to measure lbs of force but a firm pull gets it apart. Works well.
Answer: 10 I believe.
Q:
Will this work to hold a foldable, carbon/fiber wading staff when not in use?
Answer: I would expect it to work for that as long as there's a way to attach it to it like a strap or ring of some sort on the staff.
Answer: I don’t see why not. The magnet is very strong. Works great for my hardwood net.
Answer: Not knowing the weight of the staff, I can’t confirm but I’m my opinion it should have no problem. I would make sure the staff has its own and the net has its own. Hope that helps!!
Answer: Probably, though you would not want to use it on the same vest loop as your net. I think it would tangle.
Q:
How rust resistant is this? Will it stand up to saltwater?
Answer: I only fly fish in fresh water, but for the cost, this is a great product! I bought the 3 pack; you should also. If it rusts, throw it away and use another! Fish On!
Answer: I don’t know, I’ve used mine fresh water only. If it’s not stainless steel then I think it will eventually rust.
Answer: I’ve no had it in salt water but it has assault many a high mountain pond. It’s withstood many long hikes of 3 to 7 mile from 7 to 11.5K feet and it hasn’t failed me yet in the past 18 months.
Q:
Where are your products made ?
Q:
What is coil loop made up of inside the plastic covering?
Answer: Just plastic. The coil doesn't have any metal core that I can see. I have been very happy with mine and my fishing buddy has had his for 3 years without trouble. Would buy again.
Answer: I really don't know what's inside it. If the question is implying that maybe it's a cheap material that is subject to break, I have never felt this. I have it on a hand made fly fishing net that I really don't want to lose and it works great.
Answer: No clue sorry what ever it is it works well.
Q:
What is the pull strength of the magnets?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: dont have the answer but I can tell you if you get anywhere close the magnets snap together. I use it on the back of my fly vest with it attached to my fish net. When I go to put it back in place behind me I can't see it but it always just grabs my net and holds it securely. Its very strong
Answer: Probably around ten pounds
Answer: DON'T KNOW
Q:
What is the difference in size 1 and 3?
Answer: Hi,
Answer: The option does not refer to size: it refers to the quantity.
Q:
is the magnetic strength adjustable?
Answer: Hi, thanks for the question. Our magnetic release strength is not adjustable. It is very strong though and you should not have any issues.
Answer: No it isn't adjustable. You want it pretty strong so it won't fall off by accident in the water
Answer: It is not adjustable
Answer: No
Answer: Naw
Q:
can it be attached to net hoop instead of handle?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: I’m sure of this as I think it would depend on the type of net. I have mine on the handle and it works great.
Answer: Yes it can. You may have to switch some of the rings but it won’t be a problem.
Answer: A small caribiner would do it. I have a friend that did that.
Q:
Where are they made
Answer: I don't have my tag anymore but I think it was China.
Q:
How many pounds can this project withstand?
Product reviews of Magnetic Net Release for Fly Fishing
John Buck : Not worth the cheap price
I guess you get what you pay for. I pulled it from the package and placed the net on it. The cord immediately broke apart when I pulled the magnets apart The clip is also made of plastic, not metal. I can only assume that it would also break under real use. I am sending back and spending the extra money on a better quality product.
Amazon Customer : Im a beginner and good.
I havent had too much time to use it since its winter now and im just a beginner, but it so far works great.
Rough Rider : Strong magnet. Use it to tether my rod to ...
Strong magnet. Use it to tether my rod to kayak. Feel confident I won't lose my rod if a big bass pulls it out of the holder while I'm trolling.
Chadwick : Keeps your net out of your way
I tried different things to keep my net from falling down and dragging in the water. My buddy has one of these and I knew i needed this. Magnet is strong and double attachments keep the net on your back but up out of the water. Easy to reach and gentle tug will release the net to land your fish. Highly recommend.
Scott S. : Excellent! Fished for 2 seasons now.
I've been very satisfied with this magnetic release. I've used this for the past two fishing seasons and it's worked flawlessly, no issues.

Dan : Super cheap, works great
Great product. Does everything it's suppose to for half the cost of the big names. The magnet is very strong. I often find myself walking through thick brush and trees, trying to get to the river. I haven't once had my net pulled off of me.
4 stars because nothing is perfect. And because I feel they should've included two of the aluminum clips. One is one too few. I didn't use the lanyard because my net already has one. It clips to my belt. The magnet is attached to the hoop of my net so that the handle is pointing down. Makes grabbing it while fighting a fish in the middle of a river easy.
JoAnn Stearns : Great product!
Love this net release!!! The materials are good quality and I'm sure it will last well for me - especially the magnetic clasp which is very strong so no worries of losing my net while I'm bringing in the big one! I would highly recommend this one.

A fine product. The magnet has the right degree of magnetic strength. Works very well with my net.
Susan Quinton : Great net release!
Excellent net release- holds net securely while fishing, easily deploys net by pulling magnets apart. Magnets grab each other when stowing net away. Included carabiner attaches to vest or pack. Has to be the best deal in fishing gear - can’t beat it for the price!
Kelby Grimm : 2 thumbs up
My brothers says this works fantastic and saves him some extra work when out on the stream. It has been easy to use and very durable. He fishes every weekend.

This is the cheapest net release I've ever used. Finally got my new net to use with this thing and the magnet fell out of one end of the release the first time I went to grab my net. JUNK!
DW : Finally you can carry a net with easy access.
Yes, it is extremely well made and easy to use.
It works just as described.
Will buy again, I can see it has multiple uses. Such as my wading staff.
rockabillybanger : No more lost nets!
Great product! Magnet is very strong which is why I was looking for. The coil retractor is also better than expected.
Time to go catch some trout!
cdahlin : Recommended
I decided to switch from an old snap in net release to a magnetic net release and I am very happy I chose this one. The magnet is quite strong (stronger than I anticipated), so you don't have to worry about your net releasing if it gets slightly hung up on a branch or anything. Also, I like having the coiled cord vs. a straight bungee style cord, it's less likely to get in the way when casting or catch on something when trekking through the woods.
Devon H. : Magnets Are Very Strong
UPDATE: a few weeks ago I was fishing and went to reach for my net to land a fish, only to find the net was gone. The only thing there was one of the carabiniers attached to my d-ring on my sling pack. Not sure if the cord of the release somehow tore or if it somehow became unclipped from the carabiner, but I lost the release and my net. Don't think I'll be using a net release anymore. Since I'm not sure how it broke I can't blame it on the release itself, but I'm suspicious.
This the first magnetic net release I've ever used. I purchased a new fly fishing sling pack and had nowhere to put my net, so I bought this release and put it on one of the pack's D-rings. The magnets are very strong and have no problem staying together even with the weight of a net pulling down on them. When putting the release back together, all I have to do is stick the handle of the net up in the general direction of the other end of the release on my back and they will snap together instantly. As I said this is the only magnetic release I've ever used but it has to be hands-down the best bang-for-your-buck you'll get for something like this.
Joe Perrone Jr, author of the Matt Davis Mystery Series : Pretty much what I expected
Bought this as a gift for a friend. Pretty much what I expected; only negative is that the whole device was a tad flimsy. Magnets are very strong, however, which makes up for a lot. My buddy netted a beautiful 20" Delaware River rainbow with it, too!
big fish : keeps net ouyt of the way
strong magnet
Amazon Customer : Magnets are strong
I haven't had this on the river yet, but I've attached this to my net and vest and it was exactly what I was looking for. The magnets are strong. The magnets are strong enough to attach behind my back without having to look and I can feel the attraction in the net handle.
I attached one end of the magnet to my the D-ring on the back of my vest using the provided carbiner. I attached the other end of the magnet to the hoop end of net using zip tips. I then used the spring/cord portion from the handle of my net to a loop on the bottom of my vest so I'm not pulling from the D'ring on the back of my vest when detached.
Lamarsh : Works great
The magnets on the one that came with my orvis net never worked great, they just never “grabbed” each other well. These puppies get the job done, they find each other much easier and I am now rarely fussing around with getting my net to connect back to my clip. Good product!
J. Struck : Nice net holder
Works very well, nice strong magnet without being too strong. Holds my net firmly, which currently is an aluminum frame net that weighs 11 ounces. The magnets should be strong enough to hold a heavier wood frame net if I get one. The coiled leash works well and is long enough.
Justin : Just as good as the brand-name versions
No need to spend $30 for a brand name when this works just as well. I wish it came with a second carabiner for attaching one to your pack/vest and the other to your net. Fortunately I had an extra laying around the house.
The Green Eagle : The magnets are perfect for a net release
The magnets are perfect for a net release. The coil is decent but I don't know about long term durability. One of the carabiners is pure junk...just toss it out, the other seems decent. I tossed the light aluminum carabiner and attached that magnet directly to the net with the split ring provided. The other magnet has the decent carabiner which I attach a loop of paracord to. I can quickly slide the loop around my belt or attachment point on my backpack, then attach back to the carabiner, so the whole thing comes on and off easily. I'd give it 4.5 stars though if I could, the magnets are fantastic, and nice looking, too.
Dave : Great net-holding device.
This magnetic net holder works great. I have the net hanging handle down and one quick jerk and it's scooping up my trout. It finds itself while I'm wearing a hooded sweatshirt. I've walked through brush while fishing small streams and it hasn't pulled off. Great product.
Amazon Customer : Im a beginner and good.
I havent had too much time to use it since its winter now and im just a beginner, but it so far works great.
Ryan T. Meyers : ????????
I've taken it out on the water once since it arrived but that's only because it's cold as balls around here right now. I did have to push through trees and bushes. The magnet stayed connected during that. I was also able to reattach one handed after pulling in the only catch that day.
So far so good. Tight lines.
D.E. : Great Value
Works great and the price was excellent! I couldn’t ask for a better value.
Lamarsh : Works great

Rick : A great value for what you get
First off I will say that the first Net Release I received was defective just like others have noted. One of the plastic loops pulled out exactly like the pic another reviewer shared. But........I sent a message to the seller at 8:30 at night. I got a response 10 minutes later and the seller sent me a new unit. This is what I will review as I think this is a great value. You will see the same net release sold under different names at some of the biggest fly fishing sites but at 2-2.5 times the price. I received by replacement in three days and it works perfectly. Feel secure if ordering that you will be taken care of by the seller. I suggested to them that they test each one before sending it out thus avoiding having to send a replacement and keeping buyers happy.
Amazon Customer : Im a beginner and good.
I havent had too much time to use it since its winter now and im just a beginner, but it so far works great.
Wayne Parmley : Five Stars
Works as well or better than most other options.
Andrew Jordan : Quality + $$ = totally worth it
I dig it. Quality parts. My only complaint, you really have to give it good tug to pull the magnets apart, but I have no other magnet releases for my net to compare it to. For all I know they're all that strong and probably for a good reason.
Reader123 : Very strong magnet
Very strong magnet. This works much better than the current one I had which has small divots around the edge for alignment; it just would not attach easily. My son had this one and it worked much better than my old one.
Lamarsh : Works great
The magnets on the one that came with my orvis net never worked great, they just never “grabbed” each other well. These puppies get the job done, they find each other much easier and I am now rarely fussing around with getting my net to connect back to my clip. Good product!
Greg M. : I love this magnetic net release
I love this magnetic net release. Has a super strong magnet so I can just hold the net handle over my shoulder and the magnets grab on without me fishing for them blindly. Bought a second one for my wife cause the first one I bought was so easy to use. Had another brand first but found it frustrating. It was a weaker magnet and very difficult to connect up unless you hit it just right. I carry my net on my back so can't see the magnets. These magnets find each other quickly!
Sean and Mandy Anderson : Nice quality, ready to put it to the test ...
Nice quality, ready to put it to the test to see if the ends retain the magnets. The strength of the magnets is very good and easily supports the weight of my net.
Amazon Customer : Very strong manets/weather proof aluminum
Very strong magnets... I use this for a handheld headlight as a secondary for night mountain biking, and I keep it attached to a backpack shoulder strap so I can reach for it and just pull it away from it's attached magnet and see anyting around me since my stationary headlight on my handlebars only points forward, works very well, all I have to do to reattach it does have the magnets near one another and they will quickly reattach my light to the strap without having to look so I can keep my eyes on the path, and I'm quite sure it's all aluminum other than the magnets themselves so it is weatherproof & rustproof. I also am a very capable mountain biker executing jumps and dropping off Ledges and this has never detached due to inertia, and the headlight I have attached to it is heavier than your average flashlight.
matthew : Durable and trusted
Great release. Period. Used it out of the box for 2 weeks while wading and hiking in and around Twin Bridges Montana. Never came off when I didn't want it to. My net got caught in some really fast water when I dropped it in the Jefferson River, and the lanyard had no issue bringing it back with no deformation. Cool color as well.
Amazon Customer : Makes for easy net access.
Secure magnetic hold. Releases when needed. Reattaches quickly.
Jeffrey C. Fry : It does the job in great fashion!
The Super Strong Magnetic Net Release for Fly Fishing does the job it was designed to do. The magnets in both the carabiner side and the net side are very strong and hold well. It's a snap to reattach the magnet as they seemingly seek each other out when you hold the net magnet in the vicinity of the carabiner side. Can recommend!
J. Hill : Great On-line Experience
So far I have been exceedingly pleased with this product. It has easily met my expectations. I recently looked at a similar, but less functional, product in the store of a well known retailer, which was offered at more than twice the price. I could not be more pleased with my purchase.
rockabillybanger : No more lost nets!

Mr Boxboro : The coil tether is a right length and the clip is a good size (not too big
The magnet is very strong. The coil tether is a right length and the clip is a good size (not too big, not too small). Can't go wrong for the price and fit and finish is good.
