Questions about Magnetic Net Release for Fly Fishing
Q:
How lbs of force to separate ?
Answer: I don't know the exact number but it is pretty hard to separate, will about pull your pants down if you tough too hard lol
Answer: I used a digital scale that measures my suitcase weights. It separated at 7.3 lbs., well over the weight of the net
Answer: I don't have anything to measure lbs of force but a firm pull gets it apart. Works well.
Answer: 10 I believe.
Q:
Will this work to hold a foldable, carbon/fiber wading staff when not in use?
Answer: I would expect it to work for that as long as there's a way to attach it to it like a strap or ring of some sort on the staff.
Answer: I don’t see why not. The magnet is very strong. Works great for my hardwood net.
Answer: Not knowing the weight of the staff, I can’t confirm but I’m my opinion it should have no problem. I would make sure the staff has its own and the net has its own. Hope that helps!!
Answer: Probably, though you would not want to use it on the same vest loop as your net. I think it would tangle.
Q:
How rust resistant is this? Will it stand up to saltwater?
Answer: I only fly fish in fresh water, but for the cost, this is a great product! I bought the 3 pack; you should also. If it rusts, throw it away and use another! Fish On!
Answer: I don’t know, I’ve used mine fresh water only. If it’s not stainless steel then I think it will eventually rust.
Answer: I’ve no had it in salt water but it has assault many a high mountain pond. It’s withstood many long hikes of 3 to 7 mile from 7 to 11.5K feet and it hasn’t failed me yet in the past 18 months.
Q:
Where are your products made ?
Q:
What is coil loop made up of inside the plastic covering?
Answer: Just plastic. The coil doesn't have any metal core that I can see. I have been very happy with mine and my fishing buddy has had his for 3 years without trouble. Would buy again.
Answer: I really don't know what's inside it. If the question is implying that maybe it's a cheap material that is subject to break, I have never felt this. I have it on a hand made fly fishing net that I really don't want to lose and it works great.
Answer: No clue sorry what ever it is it works well.
Q:
What is the pull strength of the magnets?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: dont have the answer but I can tell you if you get anywhere close the magnets snap together. I use it on the back of my fly vest with it attached to my fish net. When I go to put it back in place behind me I can't see it but it always just grabs my net and holds it securely. Its very strong
Answer: Probably around ten pounds
Answer: DON'T KNOW
Q:
What is the difference in size 1 and 3?
Answer: Hi,
Answer: The option does not refer to size: it refers to the quantity.
Q:
is the magnetic strength adjustable?
Answer: Hi, thanks for the question. Our magnetic release strength is not adjustable. It is very strong though and you should not have any issues.
Answer: No it isn't adjustable. You want it pretty strong so it won't fall off by accident in the water
Answer: It is not adjustable
Answer: No
Answer: Naw
Q:
can it be attached to net hoop instead of handle?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: I’m sure of this as I think it would depend on the type of net. I have mine on the handle and it works great.
Answer: Yes it can. You may have to switch some of the rings but it won’t be a problem.
Answer: A small caribiner would do it. I have a friend that did that.
Q:
Where are they made
Answer: I don't have my tag anymore but I think it was China.
Q:
How many pounds can this project withstand?
Product reviews of Magnetic Net Release for Fly Fishing
FB : Great magnet, carabiner sucks
I'm happy with the purchase and think this magnet will work really well for my net. It's super-strong and nicely colored. However, the carabiner provided with the product sticks open every time. Buy a small, color-matched replacement in the hardware section of Walmart to solve the issue.
Gary W. : Great magnet and plenty of lanyard lenght
Being used on my fly fishing dip net.
Amazon Customer : Very strong manets/weather proof aluminum
Very strong magnets... I use this for a handheld headlight as a secondary for night mountain biking, and I keep it attached to a backpack shoulder strap so I can reach for it and just pull it away from it's attached magnet and see anyting around me since my stationary headlight on my handlebars only points forward, works very well, all I have to do to reattach it does have the magnets near one another and they will quickly reattach my light to the strap without having to look so I can keep my eyes on the path, and I'm quite sure it's all aluminum other than the magnets themselves so it is weatherproof & rustproof. I also am a very capable mountain biker executing jumps and dropping off Ledges and this has never detached due to inertia, and the headlight I have attached to it is heavier than your average flashlight.
DawgMan63 : Holds my net
I have use it a couple of times so far and it works great.
Chad Ward : Well done, and versatile.
This is exactly what I was looking for. The magnets catch the right way every time (I was nervous about them lining up and catching properly), the lanyard is a fine length and the carabiner is more substantial than other options I've looked at. Another review has me thinking about what else I could use these for...
OnlyAName : Great magnetic release lanyard, worth every penny.
Super happy with this magnetic lanyard. It is lightweight and has a super strong magnet that only releases when you want it to. My first time out with it my son landed a small smallmouth bass (~12inches) and I was prepared with my net at the ready.
I really like the design of this layard, it keeps the lead tidy and overall it looks great. The company is also very proactive about customer satisfaction and Amazon fulfillment is fast and on time. I am a super happy customer.
MattM : Great value
Very satisfied with this net release and price. The strong magnets make for a easy re-connect. Would purchase again.
JustAnotherAmazonCustomer : Magnet holds great chord is the right length
Magnet holds great chord is the right length. I guess I am having trouble finding anything to say about this product because it stays out of my way and isn't that noticeable. Which is EXACTLY what I wanted it to be.
DawgMan63 : Holds my net
I have use it a couple of times so far and it works great.
Lorin : Great for fly fishing!
Magnet self locates and holds good, but has an easy enough breakaway to use it. Have it clipped to the back of my fly fishing vest holding my net. Its held great so far for the times I've gone out and used it. Love how easy it is to reattach despite being on my back just reach it behind my back and it just finds itself and clicks together. Good design, seems like it will last. Very happy with it.
DrD : Super strong magnets
Super strong magnets, along with super speedy mailing. Great product. The magnets reposition to each other perfectly, and with a kind of fierce intensity, so you needn't worry about the two magnets 'finding each other,' as you go about blindly rehanging the net on your backside.
Andrew Jordan : Quality + $$ = totally worth it
I dig it. Quality parts. My only complaint, you really have to give it good tug to pull the magnets apart, but I have no other magnet releases for my net to compare it to. For all I know they're all that strong and probably for a good reason.
V : Perfect release pressure in the magnet
The magnet keeps it in place strongly enough that you don’t have to be afraid to lose it out in nature. It also releases at just the right pressure so you can grab it from your belt if you catch a fish without tangling yourself up.
Brant : Buy the $6 version from prime.....
FIRST pull out of the package and the magnet pulled out of one end. Glued it my self and should be fine. I just really dont feel like it's up to me to finish the manufacturing process....
I paid an extra $5 for this to have a brand name printed on it. Buy the $6 Amazon option....
Justin : Just as good as the brand-name versions
No need to spend $30 for a brand name when this works just as well. I wish it came with a second carabiner for attaching one to your pack/vest and the other to your net. Fortunately I had an extra laying around the house.
Lamarsh : Works great
The magnets on the one that came with my orvis net never worked great, they just never “grabbed” each other well. These puppies get the job done, they find each other much easier and I am now rarely fussing around with getting my net to connect back to my clip. Good product!
Wayne Parmley : Five Stars
Works as well or better than most other options.
Y2KBOY : Magnetic Muscle
The magnet is powerful and should easily and quickly find its way to the resting position without difficulty. It is designed to hang handle-up. It would have been nice to have a small strap to attach the magnet to the top of the net, giving you the option of hanging it handle-down.
Reader123 : Very strong magnet
Very strong magnet. This works much better than the current one I had which has small divots around the edge for alignment; it just would not attach easily. My son had this one and it worked much better than my old one.
Michael Koczocik : This is the cheapest net release I've ever used. ...
This is the cheapest net release I've ever used. Finally got my new net to use with this thing and the magnet fell out of one end of the release the first time I went to grab my net. JUNK!
JP : Spending extra does not mean you are getting better quality!
Recently purchased magnetic net release from another company and paid twice as much. The magnets fell out and the general appearance was cheap. This mag net release looks great and strong. Well worth the investment.
Rough Rider : Strong magnet. Use it to tether my rod to ...
Strong magnet. Use it to tether my rod to kayak. Feel confident I won't lose my rod if a big bass pulls it out of the holder while I'm trolling.
Wayne Parmley : Five Stars
Works as well or better than most other options.
GoBigRed! : A must have for fly fishers
This is a must have for fly fishers or any fisherman needing to secure their net to their vest. Great quality for the price and I would recommend this to anyone looking for a net release.
Techanic : I love to fly fish
Fast and accurate delivery. I'm thrilled with this purchase. I love to fly fish, but have always had an awkward time with the net. This solution is perfect. It's very convenient, handy and safe.
Dave : Great net-holding device.
This magnetic net holder works great. I have the net hanging handle down and one quick jerk and it's scooping up my trout. It finds itself while I'm wearing a hooded sweatshirt. I've walked through brush while fishing small streams and it hasn't pulled off. Great product.
Wayne Parmley : Five Stars
Works as well or better than most other options.
Amazon Customer : Magnets are strong
I haven't had this on the river yet, but I've attached this to my net and vest and it was exactly what I was looking for. The magnets are strong. The magnets are strong enough to attach behind my back without having to look and I can feel the attraction in the net handle.
I attached one end of the magnet to my the D-ring on the back of my vest using the provided carbiner. I attached the other end of the magnet to the hoop end of net using zip tips. I then used the spring/cord portion from the handle of my net to a loop on the bottom of my vest so I'm not pulling from the D'ring on the back of my vest when detached.
Dan : Super cheap, works great
Great product. Does everything it's suppose to for half the cost of the big names. The magnet is very strong. I often find myself walking through thick brush and trees, trying to get to the river. I haven't once had my net pulled off of me.
4 stars because nothing is perfect. And because I feel they should've included two of the aluminum clips. One is one too few. I didn't use the lanyard because my net already has one. It clips to my belt. The magnet is attached to the hoop of my net so that the handle is pointing down. Makes grabbing it while fighting a fish in the middle of a river easy.
Reader123 : Very strong magnet
Very strong magnet. This works much better than the current one I had which has small divots around the edge for alignment; it just would not attach easily. My son had this one and it worked much better than my old one.
Peter Jonas : Magnet immediately popped out of holder/casing
I don't normally write negative reviews, but this was super annoying. I unpackaged the item and one of the magnets popped out of its' holder/casing.
Amazon Customer : Ordered two. One good one junk
Bought two gave one to my son in his birthday pack. He opened pack said "look it is broke". One magnet not even fastened in making it useless. Grrrrrr. Made me look like an idiot defective b4 ever even put on his vest. Here boy put this on your vest, no put it in the garbage as it is defective and rendered useless.

Scott S. : Excellent! Fished for 2 seasons now.
I've been very satisfied with this magnetic release. I've used this for the past two fishing seasons and it's worked flawlessly, no issues.
Russ : Five Stars
this works very well
cdahlin : Recommended
I decided to switch from an old snap in net release to a magnetic net release and I am very happy I chose this one. The magnet is quite strong (stronger than I anticipated), so you don't have to worry about your net releasing if it gets slightly hung up on a branch or anything. Also, I like having the coiled cord vs. a straight bungee style cord, it's less likely to get in the way when casting or catch on something when trekking through the woods.

Chad A. : Holds my pinpointer no problem
Using this for metal detecting to attach my pinpointer to my finds bag. Works perfectly. Only minor issue...the magnets are so strong...they will attract and fill up with little bits of rusty metal that flakes off some of the finds I throw in my bag or even magnetic rock bits...so sometimes the magnets won't stick together because the surfaces are covered with this debris. Wipe them off quickly and back to business. Just a very minor annoyance...but not even enough to ding it a star.

rockabillybanger : No more lost nets!
Great product! Magnet is very strong which is why I was looking for. The coil retractor is also better than expected.
Time to go catch some trout!
Trail Hiker : Very practical equipment
Very practical equipment for carrying your fishing net. I have a wooden frame net and this magnet is strong enough to hold the net in place. The seller did their part in providing a quick delivery.
Devon H. : Magnets Are Very Strong
UPDATE: a few weeks ago I was fishing and went to reach for my net to land a fish, only to find the net was gone. The only thing there was one of the carabiniers attached to my d-ring on my sling pack. Not sure if the cord of the release somehow tore or if it somehow became unclipped from the carabiner, but I lost the release and my net. Don't think I'll be using a net release anymore. Since I'm not sure how it broke I can't blame it on the release itself, but I'm suspicious.
This the first magnetic net release I've ever used. I purchased a new fly fishing sling pack and had nowhere to put my net, so I bought this release and put it on one of the pack's D-rings. The magnets are very strong and have no problem staying together even with the weight of a net pulling down on them. When putting the release back together, all I have to do is stick the handle of the net up in the general direction of the other end of the release on my back and they will snap together instantly. As I said this is the only magnetic release I've ever used but it has to be hands-down the best bang-for-your-buck you'll get for something like this.
DW : Finally you can carry a net with easy access.
Yes, it is extremely well made and easy to use.
It works just as described.
Will buy again, I can see it has multiple uses. Such as my wading staff.
BobGuy : Great quality, STRONG magnets!
I haven't owned this long enough to speak to the durability of the cord, but the look and feel of the product is solid. The magnets are so strong, I know I'm never going to accidentally release my trout net. I can even re-attach it behind my back without looking--that's how strong the magnets are. Well done on a great product that's less than half the price of name brands. :)

Austin : Super convenient, very well made
This is the second one of these that I have bought, they're great for what you need. The carabiner that comes with it isn't great, so I'd recommend using one of your own. Otherwise the magnet and cord work just as intended.

Larry M : Good Tool
Just used this for the first time yesterday. Snapped into the D ring on the back of my fishing vest and it keeps my net out of the way and easy to use when ready. When I received, I thought it looked like the coiled line and the magnet were too small to do the job I wanted. But the magnet is very powerful for its size and really does the job. The only issue I was having was after using the net, you need to make sure the net end of the magnet connects to the other magnet and not the snap ring. If I reach back and grab the magnet on the D ring then I can make sure the two come together. Will be very happy with my purchase if the magnets keep their power like they do now.
