Questions about FoodSaver V4400 2-in-1 Vacuum Sealer Machine with Automatic Vacuum Sealer Bag Detection and Starter Kit, Safety Certified, Black and Silver
Q:
Do you know what the difference is between the 4840 and this one 4440?
Answer: The only difference between the V4440 and V4840 models is the placement of the buttons. They both have all the same features and functions.
Answer: The manufacturer is wrong, because I just contact Foodsavor directly and asked if the 4440 has the pulse vac feature and they said the 4440 does NOT. The 4800, 4900 and the 5400 only does. I wound up buying the 4440 one based on this manufacturer's response, and apparently the info is wrong.
Answer: I see the 4840 cost more yet you say it's the same as the 4440. This does not make sense to me. Is on more puwefull and faster than the other. What come with the 4440 ? It does not say. Like it does with the 4840
Q:
Has this model overheated and required shutdown to cool before continuing ?
Answer: If you are sealing many bags and quickly, the seal heater needs a couple seconds to cool down a little once in a while. But after 5 - 10 seconds you can start again. I've never had to shut the Foodsaver itself down. And we use it for big amounts. Just did $450 worth of meat that I bought and brought home and divided up to put in the freezer
Answer: My guess would be, if you have help and a assembly line setup, or a bunch of bags filled and waiting to vac and seal one right after the other, you might run into it overheating. Just doing it by getting a few ready to do, vac and seal them, then get a few more ready while it has a chance to cool, then do them, you should not run into the overheating. That is my normal way of doing it and I have never had a problem with overheating one.
Answer: Yes it has. If we are using it a lot in one day. We must wait and have it cool down.
Answer: Haven't had that issue. Our last "big use" was sealing 60lbs of hamburger into 2lb bags. So 60 seals in around an hour.
Answer: no it has never over heated
Answer: Not the one I own. Works great
Answer: I haven't had any problems with shutting down and I've been using my food saver for some really big jobs
Q:
what size roll and bag is recmended
Answer: We recommend that you use 8" rolls and 11" rolls, you can also use various size bags with this FoodSaver.
Answer: I like the roll better for things like meat because then I can make the bag size as large or small as I need. For me the bags are great for dry goods like grains and nuts. I keep the two sizes of rolls and two sizes of bags.
Answer: 8" x 20' or 11" x 20' ( I bought a 50' roll and had to cut it and make 3 smaller rolls out of it)
Answer: it will take all the sizes of bag I believe
Answer: Both size rolls work wonderfully. I have both size rolls and not had any problems. Bags of any size also do well. I have not used the bags as much as the rolls because I like to decide how big my bag will be. Less waste that way. Hope this helped.
Answer: The roll is best as it can be cut to any size. The size depends on what you're packing.
Q:
there are so many choices, are they all about the same?
Answer: There are a lot of vacuum sealers to choose from that have their own functions and features. The best model that would work for you would depend on the frequency, volume and the types of foods you plan on vacuum and sealing. For better assistance on choosing the perfect fit FoodSaver, please contact customer service www.foodsaver.com/contactus.
Answer: I bought a non automatic one that was around $80.00 and returned it as it did not seal correctly. There are a number on the market by Foodsaver and others, however I have used this one a number of times over the last few weeks and found it to work well and as advertised. You need to make sure though that you cut off enough bag material so that the sealer has enough in the slot so that it seals properly. Anything I get that does not work I return. I am keeping this one and it is not their most expensive one.
Answer: I always go for the newest model when I can. I gave one I got 2 years ago to my son & they love it. He's hunter and the venison lasts them a long time when the food saver is used. I haven't tried mine yet but I bet it will be great.
Answer: About the same with different features. This one has an external hose to vacuum seal their jars, containers and ziplock bags. Also has a marinate feature. I have this model and like it so far. Hope this helps.
Q:
Hi - does this work with wet or juicy food?
Answer: This vacuum sealer does have a moist/dry food settings for optimal sealing that adjusts the seal level for a secure, reliable, air tight seal. With all FoodSaver models, we advise that when vacuum sealing meats and/or fish with lots of juices, it may be helpful to pre-freeze meats and fish for 1 - 2 hours before vacuum packaging in a FoodSaver Bag to ensure the retention of juices and shape, and to help guarantee a good seal. When making individual portions, place the individual pieces on a cookie sheet and place in the freezer for 1 - 2 hours. Remove from the freezer; transfer to a FoodSaver Bag and vacuum-seal.
Answer: I use a different approach for things like raw meat which I freeze before vacusealing. This also prevents the vacuum from compressing the meat and sucking out juices. I even use it for soup and stews. I cut a bag to length, fill it with the food, then stand it upright in the freezer for an hour or 2 until frozen, and then vacuseal it. Works great.
Answer: There is a setting on the saver for "dry or moist". Typically, if I'm vacuuming something with a lot of moisture, I use the Moist setting and make sure my bag has extra space. This should resolve most issues you have with wet vs dry products. If what you have has too much moisture, you can always use one of the other containers specifically designed for liquids.
Answer: You can do the same thing that they suggest for things like fresh berries or other soft food. Freeze the food first then do the food saver thing after.
Answer: Yes, it has a setting for wet or dry food.
Q:
Ok have an older food sealer, with lots of extras. Will I be able to use them with unit ?
Answer: You should be able to.
Answer: This FoodSaver is compatible with all FoodSaver Accessories and Canisters, regardless of age, without the need for additional attachments.
Q:
What is the differance between the v4440 and the v4400? what is the newest foodsaver model?
Answer: The V4440 is a model in the V4400 series. Anything that begins with V44 will be the same in form & function but may have slight cosmetic differences. The newest FoodSaver model on the market is the FM3920. Hope this helps!
Q:
Sorry if this was answered, but can you use it with meat and liquids. For instance marinading steaks/meats, or is there limitations on that?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: Yes you can. You can seal a bag without vacuuming it. I love my sealer.
Answer: Yes it has setting for wet or dry sealing. Works good for marinating.
Q:
Help. only the wide bags that span end to end will vacuum. the ones half as wide do not vacuum. it tries, but then stops in error. what am i doing wr?
Answer: We can certainly help you get this sorted out! Please make sure your leaving at least 3 inches of empty space at the end of the bag. Also, pre-freeze any food with moisture as the juices may cause the bags not to get vacuumed. For further assistance feel free to give our customer care team a call at (877) 777-8042. Our hours are Mon-Fri 8am-8pm and Sat 9am-6pm, EST.
Q:
does this have a plus or a gentle feature for for foods you don't want crushed?
Answer: This FoodSaver vacuum sealer V4440 does not have the pulse feature. Check out the FoodSaver FM5460.
Q:
What are the actual dimension?
Answer: We've got you covered! The V4440 is 15.88 inches wide x 5.75 inches deep x 7.19 inches tall. It's a very compact FoodSaver designed to save counter space!
Answer: Don't know, but machine is great. I save a lot of money each month using the machine. I go to Costco the first of each month and buy in large sizes and seal with machine. I get it 5 Stars!
Q:
I am from singapore. my power is supply is 220v/240v, 50 hz - is your system auto switch? or have a 220v system?
Answer: All of our products that are sold in the United States and Canada are manufactured and UL approved for 110-120 voltage. We do not recommend using them in different countries due to the difference in voltage. Additionally, doing so will void your warranty.
Answer: Don't really think so, hadn't read the manual fully yet tho. Mine is just 110v....no switch that I am aware of.
Answer: 110 only
Q:
What marinator ware can i use with this system. Not individual baggies but the tupperware type.
Answer: Our vacuum sealing appliances are only compatible with FoodSaver bags and containers. To marinate your meats we would recommend you purchase the FoodSaver Quick Marinator. Happy shopping!
Answer: I use the marinator all the time, I use it on the items 2 or 3 times to insure it is well sucked into the food. I have never marinated items then freeze them, but I am sure you can. This is a really nice attachment that is very useful.
Answer: Look up "foodsaver marinator container" on amazon. This is the tupperware designed to work with this. Be warned that a number of reviewers stated that this tupperware container explodes when used with this machine.
Q:
Can I use the 4440 on whole fresh turkeys around 18 to 24 lbs
Answer: Great question! Yes, you can vacuum seal a whole turkey with this FoodSaver. However, for best result we recommend using our FoodSaver expandable bags, and that you pre-freeze the meats to avoid any moisture coming inside the vacuum channel. Thank you!
Answer: Probably not, I don't think you can get a wide enough bag. Sorry Robin.
Q:
Considering the cost of the bags and rolls, is this really a good thing?
Answer: For myself, it is really a good thing. I prevent freezer burn on my food I freeze. Depending on what product I freeze, I am able to package the size I want, boil in the same bag or microwave in the same bag. I can even add marinade to meats before I seal them! You don't have to use "Food Saver" brand freezer bags or rolls. There are other options out there if you are willing to search for them on the internet.
Answer: To me the cost is justified, I use mine for both bags and mason jars. I soak and dehydrate a lot of nuts and this machine is AWSOME!!! Also no more freezer burn ❤️
Answer: I have a freezer. My meat lasts twice as long as using ordinary freezer bags. I can buy in bulk and portion out the meat and vegetables.
Answer: If you're using this for small volume daily use and no deep freeze, you don't need it. If you fill a deep freeze every 4-6 months then yes. We use it often for making deli meat and cheese last longer too.
Answer: If you use a freezer it is great, if not u don't need it.
Q:
where do you storage the bags.to you
Answer: This model FoodSaver has a roll storage storage compartment built in the top.
Answer: There is no storage space in the Foodsaver unit itself. I usually keep the bags stored in the manufacturer's box and store it with the Foodsaver unit to keep them together.
Answer: The big panel on top is the lid to the storage space with the cutter. This is room for on roll.
Answer: The top opens for bag (roll) storage
Answer: The unit stores a roll of bag material in it, any separate bags we keep in a cupboard with the unit
Answer: Not sure what your asking...
Q:
We freeze corn after cutting it off the cob and sometimes there is liquid in the bags from the corn. Can this system be used to seal and freeze corn
Answer: Yes! For best results freeze the corn 1-2 hours before vacuum sealing or use our https://www.amazon.com/FoodSaver-Liquid-Block-Heat-Seal-Quart/dp/B00851QSDE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1470922750&sr=8-1&keywords=liquid+block

Answer: Yes it does, but very few. A good starter kit.
Answer: Yes rolls and bags
Q:
How many bags can I vacuum and seal continuously?
Answer: The V4440 vacuum sealing system can seal 6-8 bags consecutively. Thanks!
Answer: I used to do 30+ bags. It needs at least 10 seconds in between before you strat sealing another bag. If you press the seal botton right away, the red light will blink. It means the machine is not ready to seal.
Answer: I used all the bags that came with it plus at least half of a fifty foot roll with no problem
Answer: As many as you have. It did not give me any problems.
Answer: how hard to return
Q:

Q:
What is the InGH rating for this model?
Answer: I’m new to this vacuum packing, so I don’t know what inGH is.
Answer: That's something most folks wouldnt know. You should get in touch with customer service or tech support.
Q:
I need a machine to individually wrap cookies for a cookie bake. Will this machine wrap the cookies and not break them?
Answer: Yes it would, what you would have to do is, as it automatically starts to suck the air out of the bag you just hit the seal button and it will stop the suction and seal it the way you want to this way it won't break, also If you let the machine suction the bag it still probably won't break them either now that I think of it, depending on how many cookies you enclose. I think this is the perfect machine for storing away gift such as cookis, or just putting them up in the cabinet until you are ready to eat them,, then just seal the bag back up, I do it all the time.. Hope this helps...
Q:
Can i use any kind of bags or there is a specific type ? and does it come with bags or i have to buy them separately ?
Answer: I believe it came with a small roll & maybe a couple of pre-made bags. I order mine from Amazon. "2 of Big Sale! 2 8"X50' Rolls of FoodVacBags 4 mil Commercial Grade Vacuum Sealer Bags - Make Your Own Size Bag! - for Foodsaver, Seal-A-Meal, plus other m
Answer: The FoodSaver vacuum sealer V4440 comes with a starter kit. We recommend using FoodSaver brand bags, as that is all that has been tested with the FoodSaver vacuum sealer.
Answer: It will reseal bags like chips, frozen veggies, etc but to vacuum seal and preserve good you have to use either the food saver brand or equivalent. The bags are available at place like Walmart and Sams Club, or online from Amazon or other online sites. It is cheaper to buy rolls and make your own bags to size as opposed to buying pre-made bags. You get a sample of all types with the unit when you buy it.
Answer: It comes with bags. You should use the recommended bags....but yes you can use other brands.
Q:
Thinking of purchasing this. If I seal and freeze leftovers, do I just throw the bag in boiling water to heat them up?
Answer: Yes. You can heat cooked foods, such as leftovers, in a FoodSaver® bag. The bags should never be used to cook raw foods. When microwaving/boiling, cut open a corner of the bag before putting it in the microwave/boiling so steam can escape. Avoid microwaving/boiling foods containing a lot of oil, as oil will get hot very quickly and could cause the sides of the bag to stick together.
Answer: I wouldn't heat the bags all the way to 212°. I'm not sure about the FoodSaver bags specifically, but many plastics start to break down over 200°. I use the bags to sous vide meats for several hours but temps never really go beyond 170°. No problems at the lower temps.
Q:
What's the longest roll of 11in bag that will fit this? Can the 50ft fit? 25ft? Thanks!!
Answer: Probably the 25 ft roll is about all that will fit. I just finished using up the "trial" role and kept the cardboard tube and rolled up some bagging material on it from a 50 ft roll and about half of the 50 ft roll was all I could get to fit.
Q:
Will this machine handle large cuts of meat, such as game?
Answer: The real question is not whether the machine can handle it but can you make a pouch/bag to handle the cut of meat. The machine will seal any bag that will go into the sealing slot. I butcher my own deer and vacuum pack all the various cuts with this machine. I just have to make the bag long enough to accommodate the specific cut of meat.
Answer: They will likely have to be cut down
Q:
Are the fittings for Regular & Wide Mouth Mason Jars also included?
Answer: No they are not. They are available at a reasonable price right here on Amazon.
Q:
Can you stop the machine when you want to such as or muffins or different breads?
Answer: You would just simply hit the seal button and the FoodSaver will switch to seal and stop vacuuming.
Answer: Yes, just tap the seal button when desired vacuum is achieved.
Q:
Can this unit be used for sous vide cooking?
Answer: We recommend checking out the following blog on our website for information on how to use a FoodSaver with the sous vide style of cooking: http://bit.ly/1Vcjyio
Answer: It works fine for sealing food for Sous Vide cooking.
Answer: Does it automatically cut each food saver bag before you fill it and seal it or do I have to do it manually with a scissor or by manually dragging a cutter on the machine across the bag ?
Answer: No
Q:
use one handed
Answer: We would recommend using two hands for any FoodSaver appliances.
Answer: For proper use, two hands are recommended.
Answer: Possible, but it would be a bit difficult. The bag has to be fed into the slot evenly so it will begin to seal. It usually takes both hands to insert the bag properly.
Answer: NO WAY ! This unit is a pain to use with two hands !

Mine will not vacuum seal dried beef. It pull liquid from dried beef up through edge that needs sealed. Pulls liquid into drip tray.
Answer: We recommend that you always flash freeze meat/fish, fruits/veggies, and freeze sauce/soup solid before vac/seal because moisture will compromise the seal and can compromise the integrity of the FoodSaver altogether.

GinAZ : Replacement of a 10 Year old food saver
Works as described. I had to replace a Food Saver that I have had for over 10 years. It worked great, but recently, I had to hold the bar down to after the vacuum was completed and press seal the seal button, otherwise it wouldn't complete the seal, just kept sucking out air even though it was apparent that the vacuum was completed.
One thing to note, is that if you are customizing the bag with the bag roller, you need about 2"s for the seal end and then 2"s at the vacuumed end.
I tried it for the first time tonight and created larger bags than I needed. Waste of material.
Overall a good product, easy to use once you get used to it.
KLF : I'm disappointed
It only suctions half the time. I'm wasting a lot of bags with it not suctioning. This is #3 for me. All different models. It will suction 1 or 2 bags and then doesn't suction but seals bag. The last one (bigger model) was wonderful. I could go shopping and 10+ bags. Pausing machine a minute after bag 5 or 6. This one, if I'm lucky I can bag maybe do 4 bags using 6 bags to get the 4 done. Not happy... But I've had it too long to return.
Pam Dolby : It does not suction enough air out, clumsy to get the top to lock down.
Hated this product. Not sure why the reviews are so strong. First it took forever to get the cover to lock down. I eventually secured it by using my body weight to press the sides to lock. After that the vacuum didn't generate enough power to properly seal the bag-air was still left inside. I tried several bags, several times. It was hopeless.
To add insult to injury the return window was less than a month. I bought it in advance to seal a salmon order and by the time I realized it didn't work the return window had closed. The product was delivered on July 13th, and the return window closed on August 11th.
The product doesn't work as advertised.
Jason Holmes : Best vacuum sealer ever!
This thing is great. I've always used the vacuum sealers that require a sixth sense to align the edge of the bag with the vacuum chamber. With this vacuum sealer it's so easy to insert the bag, then the machine will automatically detect it and begin the vacuuming process and seal it, then eject without you having to do any guesswork at all. This machine cost more than the rest but it is money that is definitely well spent. I would not hesitate to buy this again in the future and I would highly recommend.
Tiffany T : Great buy!
This food saver is great for first time users (such as myself). The directions are clear and very easy to follow. I was really impressed at how well the suction worked. I haven't actually eaten any of the meats I vacuum sealed yet but I will say that whenever I open my freezer the meats look just as fresh as they did the day I sealed them. I had got accustomed to having to throw out meat due to it being freezer burned only after a few weeks. I'm so glad I bought this machine and would recommend it to anyone!
Mark Longfellow : Works about 30% of the time
We bought this about 9 months ago and although we have tried to seal about 100 bags, we have only successfully sealed about 30. Let me explain...
When we first use the machine, it seals the first open end of the “roll of bags” well. When we turn the bag around to seal the “2nd” end, it fails to suck enough air out to “vacuum seal” the bag.
If we unplug the unit for 30 minutes, it may work once or twice, but ultimately it fails again. See the video for a demonstration of what the unit does.
Wouldn’t but it again.
Mavoo's Computing Services : Perfect.. NO Very Good.. YES
First off.. I've been using different vacuum sealers for decades - the 'clamshell' type and this is my first automatic type. I mainly use the sealer for freezing meat and for sealing cheese. When I buy meat, I get the large cryopaks. My first use of this FoodSaver was that I purchased a chunk of Boneless Ribeye weighing almost 20 pounds and cut my own steaks for less than 6 dollars a pound (local grocery store was 22 dollars a pound and thin steaks) and I got a 5 pound brick of sharp cheddar cheese which I cut down to 1 pound blocks. I always buy my meat and cheese in these quantities.
PROS: --It's a vacuum sealer --Works well with bags from other manufacturers. (purchased two 50foot rolls) --Didn't have any problems sealing properly and only a couple times had problems with it vacuuming (was able to stop it -hit power button- before it sealed) --Has the handheld vacuum port. My most favorite feature. Works great with ziplock type vacuum bags. (prior had to dig through drawer to find the battery operated vac pump - half the time batteries had died) I eat a lot of cheddar cheese and use the ziplock type bags and put block of cheese back in and vacuum before putting back in fridge. No more 'hard spots' on cheese - cheddar cheese hates air --Automatic.. Just put bag in slot and wait for it to grab. My old 'clam shell' one, had to make sure vacuum port in bag then close cover and hope port still in bag.
CONS: --Wastes a LOT of the bag. Especially if item in bag is thick you need to have a lot of 'tail' so it will go into slot evenly -No way to double seal bag --Slow.. takes a long time for it to suck out the air and sealing takes a long time also.. Fine for occasional use but if doing large batches, gets annoying fast (much slower than the clamshell one this replaces) -Sealing element seems to overheat and shut down unit only after 3 seals (light flashes). Used to make a bunch of bags with my clamshell sealer then fill the bags, and then vacuum seal them. Work around - make two bags - fill one - vacuum seal it - make a third bag - fill second bag - continue. This way you are only using the sealer two times in a row and it gets to cool down as you’re filling a bag and vacuuming it. --Handheld vacuum - though this is my favorite feature of this model, it has a valve in it (you can see a white plunger through the clear part) As your vacuuming something this valve will close and most of the time you won't realize it. So for me.. I'm vacuuming a bag waiting for it to suck more air out but the valve had closed and I had not realized it. So I'm standing there like an idiot wondering when it will finish. The only way to get this valve back open is to turn off the machine and sometimes have to tap on the attachment to get the plunger to drop back down.
OVERALL: I'm happy with this model. After using the clamshell type for decades I do like the automatic feature of this and now the sealer sits on my counter instead of in a cupboard, so it gets used more. My biggest issues are that it is much slower than my old clamshell one and it overheats much faster than the one this replaced, but for occasional use it is fine - just when doing large batches when it is an issue. Also, it wastes so much of the 'bags' - I purchased two 50 foot rolls at a very reasonable price and they worked great without the cost of FoodSaver rolls. Only drawback is that they don't fit into the bag roll holder/cutter but for the price difference it is a drawback I can live with happily. Love the handheld attachment (gets used almost daily) but the valve in it is annoying, so if you are using the handheld part and wondering why it doesn't seem to be doing its job - just check that the plunger valve is open. I purchased this a couple days before I went meat shopping. I had even kept the box it came in (which I never do.. but know I always should) so I could return it if it wasn't up to snuff. Ends up that I'm keeping this. Even though it's much slower than my much cheaper clamshell sealer and it wastes a lot of bags, the handheld portion is the selling point for me.
Perfect/Great/Exceptional... NO Very Good/Get much more use out of it.. YES
GracieGirl : Works great. My new addiction!
Love this vacuum sealer. Easy to use after reading a couple steps in the manual. Easy to make bags from rolls. Very easy to clean. The vacuum sealer for resealable bags works great too. 1st day using it my husband came home, opened the fridge & started laughing. Everything in the fridge is now vacuum sealed! Some people complained about how much is wasted to make a seal. It’s about an inch on each end. This doesn’t bother me. It came with some sample bags & a small roll to make custom bags. I purchased generic bags that work great to save money. I highly recommend this product. I love, love, love it!!
Kindle Customer : Piece of crap!
I bought it on January 29. It managed to seal fewer than 10 bags before failing. It creates good vacuum, then pauses. Next, it clicks, visibly and audibly releases the vacuum, and about one second later, lightly seals the air filled bag. I can easily tear open the seal.
I contacted the manufacturer and got an e-mail from a 3rd party saying I would be contacted in 3 days. That was 2 weeks ago. Product sucks, service is nonexistent. Find a different brand.
Justin Suidinski : Purchased July 2020 - Never again!
I've used Food Saver vacuum sealers for years. It was time for a replacement. I primarily use it to seal fresh fruit and cooked meats. I mistakenly purchased a model that wasn't able to handle the workload - not a large workload, as we are a family of 2. Returned it, then, purchased this model for over $170. You must get the bag in the slot just right or it blinks a red light for 6 blinks before you can try again - very frustrating when it takes 3-6 tries to get it right. It wasn't overheating...just finicky. Then, I found my sealed meat was getting freezer burned. This was because when it's "moist", the liquid being sucked made for a bad seal. I thought maybe it was the bags, because they were not Food Saver brand. Bought a $40 box of food saver rolls and had the same result. Sadly, I now need to purchase another vacuum sealer...It certainly will not be a Food Saver.
Kindle Customer : The real ins and outs of basic use of this vacuum sealer.
So far, this machine has not only helped me to get bulk foods taken care of, but also made extra space in the freezer. Even though the extra plastic on the side of the bags take up space, it still helps create more. Bagged items like frozen vegetables, potato products, and sausage patties that usually take up space but sorted into serving sizes for our family and vacuum sealing them, has made it easier for anyone in the family to help with cooking. I purchase rice in bulk and I was able to put directions for cooking on folded sheets, in with the cooking size for the rice. I do, however, suggest the following. 1. Freezer tape is a good idea to help label items. Unfortunately, one of the drawbacks of the vacuum seal rolls seems to be with the pre-marked sections on the rolls. When you are done with each completed bag, the end section is a better space to label. The pre-marked areas for labels can crinkle to almost make the writing illegible. 2. When purchasing vacuum seal rolls, Do Not purchase rolls more than 16-20 long unless you Know it will fit in the roll holder on the machine. Anything over that will Not fit on this machine. 3. When calculating how much you need per bag, equate for 1-1.5 inches at the end of your measured bag to make a seal on the machine. 4. If you are vacuum sealing items in bigger quantities per bag, such as cereal, rice, etc., if you want to use the bag continuously (vac and sealing after each quantity removed), you need to think about how many times you may get into the bag. (ex. dried fruit or nuts by the bag- taking what you need for a recipe and then vac and sealing as you reduce the amount of food in the vac and seal bag.) 5. Read the instructions about items such as bread or you could ruin/crush it and read instructions on how to vac and seal moist foods. It's a trial and error thing so far for me and I can eyeball measurements like size and weight pretty well. Finally.... I suggest you go online and look at examples of how others are using their vac and seal machines (Pinterest, etc.) While finding a good deal on things like oatmeal on Prime Pantry is always a great thing, remember what you will actually use in recipes, etc. Do Not get overzealous. If you aren't going to use the food soon and/or don't have the storage space, don't buy more, just to save a buck.
janet gillispie : Love this product
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. it keeps are fruits and veggies so much longer than ever. We were throwing out food left and right because it would go bad so fast. Not anymore! We also bought all the food saver containers which we love even more. We've frozen chili, homemade soup, meats, etc. Ahhhh, love it! Because it's stainless, it looks decent on our counter and clean.
Liz Alexander : Awesome machine, easy to use.
What a difference from our old fresh sealer from the late 90's. This machine is so easy to use and clean. The accessory is great. I taught my mom to use it and now she is vacuum sealing everything. And I love that it uses the longer bags and not just the narrow ones. The zipper bags are amazing, they come in quart and gallon. This has definitely made or food last longer and taste fresher.
Dominic Filion : Foodsaver makes it impossible to get warranty service.
The accessory stopped working after four months. Calling their warranty service phone line always returns a "our offices are now closed" message, even though I'm calling at 2 in the afternoon. Foodsaver is hiding behind a convoluted process to reach out to them to not honor their warranty.
SS : 4 months old and accessory hose doesn't work.
As a few others have mentioned, I am very disappointed in this model. My first one (a V4200) lasted just until the warranty ran out (it also had to be swapped under warranty at some point). But, before the warranty ran out on the replacement unit, the hose would no longer retract. It still worked so I didn't bother swapping it a 2nd time. I also had issues with air leaking into bags after sealing so I always double sealed. I use the accessory hose HEAVILY, almost daily to seal jars, and other food saver containers. When the hose stopped working all together, I reluctantly bought the V4400.
This time, the unit lasted 4 months and the accessory hose doesn't work at all. I babied this one too to make sure it didn't break on me. This unit ALSO has the issue with air leaking into sealed bags you store in the freezer unless you double seal them. Now I have to pay return shipping to the mfg and wait for them to send me a replacement unit. They were nice enough to say they would expedite return shipping to me but that still leaves me without a unit for about at least a week and I am out $20 for return shipping.
I have used Food Saver products for well over 20 years but I am done. My older units lasted much longer and when I got the v4200 as an "upgrade" to my one that didn't have the accessory hose, I was so excited. What a disappointment to be fighting with these things for the last 6 years. When this one goes, I will be looking for a different manufacturer. Why spend $200+ on a sealer that is no better than the $50 junk.
Ossie Moore : Long Time Fan Now Disappointed
I have used FoodSaver Vacuum Sealers for probably thirteen years. The build quality of past units was great. My first unit lasted through five years of heavy use. My second unit lasted probably about the same amount of time also under heavy use. However, my last (third) unit mason jar hose stopped working after a year then the bag sealer began being flaky by year three. This fourth unit, however, has been a disappointment. First, the position of the cutter/sealer is awkward and after only one year, the cutting blade dislodged from the unit. While the unit does still work fine, I can no longer use the cutting blade, which is a royal pain. Given that my third unit died after warranty but prematurely and I am already having a minor issue with this one, count me disappointed and a bit concerned.
SherryLu : Can't live without this FoodSaver 2 n 1 Auto Vac Sealing machine.
This is such an awesome product, I wish I had purchased it a long time ago. So easy to use, Saves left over meals wonderfully, nothing dries out, it is as fresh as when cooked and can just boil the bag in a pan of water, open and microwave or what ever you wish. I buy fresh meat and remove it from the package and repackage it with the FoodSaver Vacuum Sealing..Leaves NO AIR in the bag, and freeze it. I make up soups or whatever, and vacuum seal it too, freeze it and have it when I want it, can bag one serving or 10 servings...this is another reason I love it. Highly recommend this product, it is the best. Arrived on time and product was described as shown and much better for real.
Jewels47 : Great Sealer! I love Food Saver products!
Love this vacuum sealer! Very versatile in options! I recommend this product and Food Saver to be the best quality product I have ever owned. I have purchased several brands of vacuum sealers and I have always regretted buying something cheaper. It has always been a waste of money. The old saying of “you get what you pay for” is especially true when it comes to vacuum sealers. You are going to pay a little more but I have found it is worth it for this brand product. I also only buy Food Saver sealing bags and rolls the seal stays longer than the others I have purchased. I am not being compensated in any way for this review.
Melinda Tiernan : Go for the automatic detection
Our last one literally exploded! I find that when yii do a few too many bags in a row...itbover heats the machine. .thus probably exploded. Sparks flew...so itvwas rime to get another one after nearly 10 years with our last. Not sure what new models were available injust bought one from sams. It was a manual clamp....no thank you. Pay the extra and get the auto detection...it's worth it in my opinion. With the clamp you got to make sure it's aligned correctly and if it isn't you got to unlock it then clamp it again. I went back to what I knew from my old machine pay the extra for auto detect.
Shiela spear : Love this vacuum sealer!
I've had several food saver vacuum sealers over the years. I bought them when they first came out. I have the jar sealers. This one is the best one yet. If it's nice under my counter I can leave it out. I have a dexterity problem and can't hold on to things very well with one hand. But I can just slip in the bag and it automatically takes over starts vacuuming it and I don't have to wait around or hold on to anything. Love it, I love everything food saver!
Diana P : It would work fine for two bags but the third bag would have ...
This Foodsaver has been a problem from day one. I should have returned it right away but decided it was just a fluke and eventually would be ok. What was I thinking? Initially I had problems with it vacuuming air out. It would work fine for two bags but the third bag would have all the air in the bag when it would seal. It was intermittent. I never knew what to expect. Sometimes I could seal 5 or 6 bags with no problem. The next time only one or two. I went thru every trouble shooting guide or blog I could find. Then it was fine for a couple months. Today I got it out to seal up two frozen casseroles and it won't even seal when making the bags! What a waste offf money. This is my second AND LAST Foodsaver. The quality has really deteriorated.

Steph : I am in love with this thing
I am in love with this thing. I just got a new top freezer fridge and am looking at small Energy Star Rated freezers for my cellar. This prompted a reexamination of my eating habits, as I am single and have an 80 mile round trip commute. If I freeze something frequently I return to it and it is an unappetizing wonderland of ice crystals. Opened forgotten jars of spaghetti sauce find there way to the garbage pail out of fear of a foodborne illness. I now open spaghetti sauce and spoon it into 2 standard ice cube trays. Four cubes= 1/2cup serving of sauce. I make soups, freeze them by the pint in plastic entree containers as "molds", pop out the frozen squares and bag them in 8" bags. I can make beef stew, make it into 6" x6" x1" pint sized frozen serving. I can make wide noodles al dente, freeze them flat on parchment and put them into 11" bags and put the 8" stew bag inside. Ditto for Kung Pao Chicken (Kikkoman Seasoning) in with frozen brown rice. ( Freeze rice and pasta on parchment on a cookie sheet.) I have worked hard to come up with a selection of dinner meals so I am only making one 5 serving entre every week. I reuse the 8" bags by cutting close to the seal, washing the bags out with Dawn dish detergent and re using the bags for smaller Items like spaghetti sauce cubes. Yes the bags add to the price but going on Foodsaver.com you can cut up to 30% of the price with a quantity buy and get free shipping. This unit did have one flaw: the spring for the retractable vacuum hose was defective and doesn't retract. However it works fine and can be worked gently back into the cabinet. It didn't stop me from using the wide and regular mouth Ball jar vacuum attachments ( use a second lid over the first for easy release) and the marinator worked fine. I am giving it 5 stars because I consider this a minor nuisance and because the price seems lower, probably because of that. Use the extra money to buy the combo box of 3 11" and 2 8" bag rolls. I able to get bag price down to 32 cents a bag and sometimes reuse bags. Don't forget: throwing food out has a price and two or three items could equal the cost of a roll of bags. I have a feeling this thing is now a part of my life.
Hallie : Save money
Went to FoodSaver site; the models there (this not among them) more expensive, did less, or both. Found this on Amazon cheaper than comparable items & it came with the starter pack, so even greater value. Didn't expect the automatic start; SO easy to use! I've had an older model before & wanted to replace it for a while; there may be a learning curve, but worth it. It's already saved me money when company cancelled, the defrosted meat was safe & usable after an extra day in the fridge because it was sealed. I think this is last year's model, the newest is even more automatic, but, especially for the money I've saved, I'm perfectly happy with this one. I stock up on sales & no freezer burn. Be careful to portion before you seal, you can take out the portion & reseal the bag, reducing waste & saving more money.
MICHAEL J ANDERSON : Far from perfect but the best compromise.
Overall this is a great machine. There are a few issues I have with it but the machines that would solve one issue would not have another feature that I want. This seems to be the best balance. I like the roll storage feature but I wish it was much larger. I know they designed it to hold their proprietary rolls not the cost effective aftermarket ones. Having the accessory adapter integrated into the machine is great as I don't have to store it elsewhere and then have to search for it every time I want to use it. Sealing a bag is really easy as it automatically senses the bag and starts up. The down side with this system is that you have very limited control of where the actual seal goes. There is a lot of wasted material due to this.
craig singer : Failed right out of the box
I've had two other Food Savers in the past and they seemed pretty good while worked; which was unfortunately not very long. Based on reviews I decided to give their penultimate vacuum sealer a try. This was the worst one yet. Right out of the box it either sealed immediately without fully purging the bag, or failed to ever purge the bag and seal. Returned V4400 and went with a VacMaster Pro350. More money but there is no comparison between the units.
James M. Walton : all around usefull tool
after 7 to 8 years our original food saver vacuum sealer quit. Actually it really did not quit, just the seal button went bad, the machine would still create a vacuum and the heat bar would seal the bag, we just could not get the mechanical seal to work. I am sure that just replacing the button would have done the trick but we opted for a new machine. There is just the two of us, we buy in bulk, break the packages down and seal. Saves a bunch of money, the machine pays for it's self in a very short period of time. We live on the coast, seal fish, shrimp and other fresh sea food. (fresh 18/20 shrimp right off the boat at $4.50 lb., just have to buy a minimum of 5 lbs, just that alone pays for the machine, have you priced shrimp in your favorite grocery lately). Great for storing stuff that you want to keep clean.

Just Another Amazon Fan : Do not buy a Foodsaver.
Just like many other reviewers of this product has said, this product does not last very long. When I first started using the product, man it was like a marriage made in heaven. Would vacuum seal my food so fast -- like a marriage made in heaven. Well, a few months later, I was ready for a divorce.
I will never, I mean absolutely NEVER buy another Foodsaver EVER, EVER again. I am so disappointed. I thought I was doing the right thing buying the main name brand, the cadillac of food vacuum sealers. After just a few short months, after sealing only two or three bags, bam!!! that red heat sealer light is flashing. The commercials for Foodsaver suggest buying bulk items and saving money. Don't believe them after struggling for years with making two or three seals and then flashing, it has even stopped flashing. It has a solid red light, spits out the bad with no visible seal at all. Nothing.
I am going to purchase another food sealer in a few minutes. But do not for one millisecond believe it will be a food saver. Under no circumstances will I be fooled again.
Believe it or not when I would tell others not to buy this brand, I would say that I could believe that I pay $80.00 dollars for this piece of junk. Now that it has quit working completely, and I am ready to write a review -- surprise. I see the date when I "last purchased" this item, and it says $137.00. Now I see it is priced at 170.00 plus. Don't do it. It's not worth it. Don't walk to another competitor -- Run!. Save yourself the grief and frustration I have had with this machine. Ugh!!!!
Julia Sims : Please just order the old school model...
So call me old school.... This thing... it totally fails for me across the board... The old machines were perfect, allowed me to seal with enough end that I needed, didn't waste a lot, the roll was more convenient to get to, the seal was easier to activate because it was manual, this one you have to insert it JUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUST right or it doesn't seal... then you have to take it out, put it back in, take it out, put it back in, and hope to catch it... When you're packaging 100 lbs of meat... It gets old real darn fast... Wish I hadn't bought it... And wish i had planned the purchase for when I planned to use it, because it wasn't until much later that I used it and found out that... old school is just better for me... You can't even see the part where it's doing the sealing, so how would you really know how clean it's staying in there? I just have issue with it... It's just not right for me... I want the old one back. Probably will purchase the game saver model, as it's made for lots of consecutive seals, and it operates like the old models.. .I think that will be more my speed, and it's what I recommend to anyone looking to purchase...
One of the features this thing pushes is counter space saver... It's not. It saves maybe a couple of inches? It's just not that big of a saver.. It's actually a BIGGER machine, it's just a couple inches less from front to back, but much bigger from top to bottom. To me, a couple of inches didn't make squat in difference.
Scottc : Great Kitchen Gadget with a purpose
I have a friend who has something similar and for the past few years I have been watching how he uses it. Recently I decided to buy one and he guided me to this one that is not a starter kit, is built to last and will hold up. He bought these for his family so I figured it was good enough for me. So it arrived and I bought a bunch of various types of meat, chicken and fish and divided it up into meal sized portions individually sealed. It works great. I had a couple of seal fails but those were probably my fault being a brand new user. One silly thing is that when I read the instructions about the drip tray I though that was kind of cute but not really functional, boy was I wrong. They tell you to leave about 4” from the food you are sealing to the seal and that is a good bit of advice. When I cut the bag a bit short it will suck some of the juices from the meat (or fish, remember this point) all the way up to the vacuum and it will go into the drip tray. Just as designed. But, if you are new like me and just finished sealing up a bunch of stuff and were kind of dismissive of the drip tray you will wake up in the morning to a nice pleasant fish smell due to the juices still being in the drip tray. I learned just how well the design is and I’m quite happy with it....after cleaning the drip tray. :)
Kevin : I like this model, not sure if it is discontinued now though
I had an older model that was over 12 years old that finally stopped sealing. This machine feels like it brought me out of the stone age. Just great so far. The ease at which it detects a bag and the ability to choose seal or vacuum options are awesome. No more pressing on the cover to start the vacuum. The options for dry/moist food is a nice touch as is the accessory feature.
Con) I do not understand.....this model is not even listed on foodsaver.com website as an option. When I went to register this product online, it's not even one of the options. I'm not sure if this model is discontinued or what. There are a million different models of FS, but this one isn't listed.
Con) I feel they should include a few of the accessories like jar sealers but they didn't
K. Taylor : Very disappointed. Only a few months old and not working!
When I first purchased this in December 2020, I would have given it 6 stars. I loved it. It worked perfectly. I was able to vacuum seal dozens of food items. But, after about 4 months of moderate usage, it no longer suctions all of the air out of the bags. It seals the bags perfectly. But, when I put the bag in for suctioning, it stops before all of the air is out. I didnt know this was happening so I have a lot of meat developing freezer burn. When you put the bags in the water bath for sous vide cooking, they float! I am going to try to get help from FoodSaver. If I get help, I will come back and redo my review. I really hope I can change it from a 1 star to a 5 star!
F. Kathleen Keller : This is automatic. Put the roll in the top ...
This is automatic. Put the roll in the top and pull out the amount you need and there is a cutter. The vacuum pulls the bag in, seals it and releases it after sealing. This is the easieat sealer I have ever used. It is also the most dependable. I use it almost daily, for sealing everything from fresh produce to leftovers. I also use the sealer to protect important documents. After witnessing several families losing their documents in a flood and hurricane, I sealed our birth certificates, passports and other important papers in the plastic and put them in the safe. Social Security cards cannot be laminated, but there is nothing to stop you from vacuum sealing it to protect the paper, and then opening the seal if you need to remove the card for an employer. Hurricane Harvey destroyed so many people's important photos and documents, that vacuum sealing seems to be the best way to protect these precious items.
Rick E : Out-of-Production Model - Works yet poor support.
Appliance appears to work in spite of directions lacking explanatory details and absent real customer support from the manufacturer. Once one figures out the nuances of operation, it seals and suctions as advertised. This is Day 1 so can not speak to value of saving food with this process as yet.
**This model (sold by Amazon) is an OUT OF PRODUCTION model which is not available from the manufacturer and is NOT even referenced on their site for sales or registration (except a re-manufactured version). The manufacturer's "Support" page lists "How-To Videos" yet that page does not exist.
**Amazon should be up-front when they are selling out-of-production models of appliances and other products. If I had known it was out-of-production, I may have chosen to pay $99 for the refurbished model rather $133 for "new" one. Amazon did advertise the refurbished model yet no indication it is out-of-production.
I expect more honest transparency from Amazon for products Amazon sells directly.
tn : Too restrictive.
It has been a while since I purchase the machine. Must say, the cabela's series unit was better. it provided duel power source. ac/dc. But most importantly, I don't get a vacuum failure from the cabala unit. The Food saver unit try to be automatic, but it just fails in doing its job. I would try to vacuum down and more than 50% of the time, it would not vacuum down. There is no adjustments you can make because it auto starts when the bag is in place. I also waste the bag, because you have to stick the bag in that far before unit starts, when done, the seal line is 1" from the edge of the bag.
craig singer : Failed right out of the box
I've had two other Food Savers in the past and they seemed pretty good while worked; which was unfortunately not very long. Based on reviews I decided to give their penultimate vacuum sealer a try. This was the worst one yet. Right out of the box it either sealed immediately without fully purging the bag, or failed to ever purge the bag and seal. Returned V4400 and went with a VacMaster Pro350. More money but there is no comparison between the units.
Lorraine R. : I love it
My other one broke. I have to have one cause ir saves me so much money being able to buy family packs of meat. I also cook meals for my long haul truck driver friend for when he goes on the road. Anyway, This is the newer one. I love the new feature that to seal, you don't have to use a lever. You just put it in and it does it's thing.
Bryan : Highly Recommend
This thing is awesome. I bought one for a family member for Christmas and I love it so much that I'm going to buy another one for myself. The generic bags 3-4 mil work better than the name brand ones. I love the quick marinator also. If you get the marinator make sure you do it right. The directions on the marinator are terrible. It is VERY important that you use the 'MARINATE' button with the 'OPEN' selection and the 'ACCESSORY' button with the 'VACUUM/CANISTER' selection. If you use the 'MARINATE' button with the 'VACUUM/CANISTER' selection, it will implode.
Chris Gardner : Will not suck and seal after just 5 months.
This is our third foodsaver of this model. Bought it at Christmas time and it already does not suck and seal. Would not buy this product. Wish I would have read the reviews because it appears many others have had this same problem. The food savers we had before lasted for years and we kept it outside at our summer kitchen . DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT.
K. M. : Love it and use it all the time
I chose this model, because I wanted control over the size of the "bag." This is easy to use for meat. Doesn't work that well for bread, but you can use a pulse and the attachment. You also have to put the meat in the freezer for an hour or so before using it (to freeze the liquid in the meat so it isn't pulled into the machine when the air is sucked out) and that means you can't use it immediately upon coming home from the store. It sits on my counter and is used at least twice a week. I'm very happy with it.
H. Kohl : When it works...
Iv tried using this machine several times including with the attachment for sealing jars. When it works its great. But i would say its 1/4 of the time. Im having an issue with it sealing the bags.. which came with it.. pretty dissatisfied in the performance.
Chung : Saves money and keeps food fresh!
With just two of us in the house, I can still make full casserole and other recipes, then freeze leftovers to be re-heated later. I don't have to serve the same thing for days in a row just to use up what I have made. Excellent for making and freezing cookie dough without losing flavor, as well as my cinnamon rolls (before baking). Just freeze the food as individual servings and then vacuum pack. Cannot get along without this baby!!!
Amber Holz : Love FoodSaver but not this one
When I first used it the suction was great. After a few bags it stopped working. Contacted FoodSaver and did all the troubleshooting and still did not work. Kept getting the same emails for the same troubleshooting tips. Unfortunately I returned to Amazon even though I believe FoodSaver should have taken responsibility for the malfunction especially after I had just bought bulk meat to be frozen. Fortunately I have a neighbor with a FoodSaver that was working. My previous FoodSaver lasted me years hopefully I just got a bad unit
