what is the max drag capacity of this reel?

Is this a medium to heavy reel

Answer: Its more just a medium size reel but can handle a good sized pole but would up to the 4000 if bigger than 6ft6

Answer: From my experience, I would say light to medium ( 6- 8 lb test).

What lb line and yards of line can this reel hold?

Answer: mono line 6lb 200 yards 8lb 140 yards 10lb 120 yards ///// power pro braided 10lb 175 yards 15lb 145 yards 30lb 90 yards ….I use 15lb power pro love it

Answer: I put about 300 ft of 8lb test line on two of these reels

can this be used for saltwater?

Answer: Yes! MOST shimano reels perform really, really well in saltwater. It is important to rinse with clean freshwater and maintain oil/grease maintenance though! I used mine regularly for inshore saltwater fishing for a few years, it had even been submerged a few times and performed great.

I bought this reel in March 2015. It was pretty decent to start, but not to far in it started having occasional issues where the bail wouldn't flip over during casting. As of Feb 2017 it is so frustrating I'm just replacing it.

My childhood Shimano AX still works great though :-D

Great reel for inshore saltwater. Easily handles reds n speckled trout. One of a few reels with quick fire trigger makes casting easier.

Mark : The trigger is what is different.

This model offers the trigger which allows faster cast after a retrieve. I will not last as long as the other spinners because of the extra complexity involved, but I would rather buy the same spinner rod using it 3/1 with the other spinners lifetime to get that quick release back into the water. The real itself works great. I'm not ashamed to use a trigger release when it gives my bait more time in the water where the fish are.

Elizabeth : It's OK, but buy the Sienna instead

I have the Syncopate and the Sienna. Very similar, same price.

The Syncopate has the quick fire trigger which is cool; but feels flimsy, not sure it's gonna last. It does this thing where back reels just a little bit before the brake kicks in; so that the trigger is in just the right spot. Cool trick, but it causes problems.

If you aren't holding the handle when you set the hook, it will back reel about 8 inches of line and you'll probably miss the fish. It's also prone to causing tangles. Outside of that it's a good reel for the money.

My advice, just get the Sienna. It's everything that's good about the Syncopate without the gimmicky trigger and it's drawbacks.
