Anyone else notice this shameless promotion??? 2024

fishing user avatarflyphisher # reply :

;D

In the May issue of Bassmaster, that cover the classic ::), Ike is in an ad for Bio-sonix and is quoted saying that He couldnt have won AOY in 2006 without it. Well, Having too much time on my hands I went back and watched the reruns of Bassmaster from last year and made sure i looked closely when his boat was on camera....Never saw one, he never said anything about one....I think he wrapped it up on the which was in August....Then He didnt have one on the boat at the classic. Kinda funny..But how much is your credibilty worth, other sponsors might notice this if I did...Almost as bad as Shaw Grigsby in a commercial for stren and then is fishing w/ and plugging sufix 2 mins later.

Well, Having too much time on my hands....

I think that says it all.

Instead of posting negative comments and ragging on someone, talk about who you like and why.  Life is too short.  Focus on the positive.

fishing user avatarflyphisher # reply :

Too much time on my hands= Being on crutches for 12 weeks, no work to do and fishing from the back of someone elses boat 3 times since then, my own x2. Have posted several times about aggravation of foot surgery.....That is having too much times on my hands.......

Wasnt being negative, Just stating and observation that I thought was humorous......Nascar does similar stuff for ad $$$, BASS just doesnt regulate it like Nascar does, BASS wont fine you for the wrong stickers.

fishing user avatarsenile1 reply :

Often, I'll ignore the ads when I'm reading the magazine.  I'll have to go back and take a look.  I'm sure there are a few sports figures who are guilty of this as well as other celebrities but its about making money.

I agree with Glenn's point about ragging on people, but I am interested in facts, and if this is a fact it is good to know. If we ignored all negative facts we would be rather uninformed about our world.  It's all in the words you use to present your negative facts.  Some words are easily construed as bashing.

fishing user avatarBanor reply :

I dont see this as bashing.  This has been a bone of contention with me for a long time.  It's all about integrity.  I understand how marketing hype works but I choose not to be fooled by it.

In my opinion we are doing the youth and newer anglers a service by pointing out dishonesty in advertising.  It bothers me when people take a pro at his word and run out and buy products the pro is touting as the best thing since sliced bread only to find out that it is mediocre at best.  Especially when they dont even use the product.

I am completely against promoting a product you dont use and intentionally misrepresenting it contributing to your success.

Where has the integrity gone?

Me too, until they put $50k in my pocket. (This has never happened to me, but I still fantasize  ;D)

BioSonix got some real good press from KVD at Guntersville last week.

Good question.  Integrity has become an optional commodity for some people.  It's a shame, but it's the world we live in.

fishing user avatarfishingfourfun reply :

It is hard to blame them.  They are living out their dreams of fishing for a living.  Not to many of us can say that.  We should not blindly be buying products because someone tells us to.

I second that.....and when im looking through magiznes and reading articles they will name a lure like some kind of shallow running crank bait or somthing then they will say what brand it is.....i just try to skip over the brand part and jsut focus on how he was useing a shallow running crank bait and where he was using it at

I disagree.  My integrity is everything.  Money can not buy it.

We should not blindly buy things, however... you and everyone else should know that youth buy on impulse and trust their heroes.

fishing user avatarGlenn reply :

Well, since you have all that time on your hands, let's be fair. Go look at ALL the anglers and their claims about their sponsors, and then validate them all. I mean REALLY validate - don't just look at a couple of pictures in a magazine and then come to a conclusion. Even if your assumptions are true, singling out one person, when they're ALL doing it, is severely biased and unfair.

Also, perhaps it can be read that he couldn't have done it without their support and sponsorship? Or perhaps he used it during the Classic, you just didn't see it when the cameras were rolling? Oh my - a pro hiding a "secret" lure/technique/tool when cameras are around during the championship of all competitions - NO WAY!! ;) Quite possibly the same reason you didn't see it in other photos too.

My, how easy it is to judge people based off a couple of pictures, without every knowing the man or speaking to him. Who has "integrity" at this point?

Sorry to be so harsh, but these guys work their butts off every day getting, and retaining, their sponsors... going to appearances all across the country.... doing interviews, commercials, books, videos... oh and fishing tournaments at the highest level of competition. Oh and maybe they get to see their family every now and then, just to remind them who they are. Sometime their kids don't even recognize them.

Then one person takes it upon himself to try to make him look bad because he has more time on his hands than he knows what do with.

This is integrity? Give me a break!

FlyPhisher, I'm sorry about your injury.  I know it has you cooped up and you're unable to do the things you love to do.  It must suck, and I can empathize.  But please - don't ever start judging others, especially the pros, without fully understanding all the hard work and effort they put into their careers.  You wouldn't want an armchair quarterback judging your career moves the same way.

fishing user avatarRecMar8541 reply :

I would think that if someone had a "secret for sucess lure"  and used it to win the classic, it would get camera time.  From a sponsors point of view I would be highly upset if I sponsored someone and they used my product to win, and never gave it any face time.

Having said all that.  Im gonna mention two words that surmise shameless promotion of poop.

ROLAND MARTIN!

fishing user avatarNeedemp reply :

I don't think you looked at every angle when you posted your comment FlyPhisher. What if he used it for prefishing and got a good look at the cover he would target, and then tourny day came and he didn't feel it necessary to stick it down there and spook fish. I am not saying that is what he did, but if you don't know, maybe you shouldn't accuse someone of being decietful. I know your not ripping the guy, but what you said does cast a negative shadow, all be it a little one, over his integrity. Just my opinion.

fishing user avatardeadeye32. reply :

I agree with Needemp on this that he probobly did use it throughout the season weather it was pre-fishing these tournys or the support that Biosonix gave him that year.

fishing user avatarCigarlover 1 reply :

Maybe he wasn't sponsored by Biosonix in 06. From what I've read he didn't sign until early 07. Maybe he saw the potential in the product and was thinking about sponsorship. Why advertise a product for free when you have a potential future sponsor. If I'm a company and a top pro is using my product on their own why would I need to sponsor them.

fishing user avatarRattlinrogue reply :

I buy lures from word of mouth by anglers that I know.I'd never base my purchase solely on a commercial by a complete stranger.

fishing user avatarflyphisher # reply :

I was just using IKE as an example of something I have been noticing for years.... The ad was one that alot of people on this forum would see....

Amazed by the some of the sheep-like replies...... ::)

Love how some people that are fans of someone will twist things to make them sound good :o....

If it was so good, why didnt he use it in a tournament?????

Bio-sonix is a joke, $800 for something that sounds like rattletraps....Only thing anyone really knows is that they are endorsed by KVD and now IKE, look at all the fish that have been caught before and since w/o one and i just cant take them serious when it comes to what they are pluggin.....Looking at Strike King's quality overall, I dont really pay much attention to what he is throwin/endorsing either.... So its not just ike..... As some of you also said, "paying bills"or something similar, Ike aint exactly a struggling newcomer or has-been and neither is KVD to put their names on some of the crap that they do. I just think it reflects poorly on them, the other pro's and doesnt set a real good example for kids that look up to them... I am not suprised, its the way society is today......w/ more and more cameras in the boats with these guys now, its gonna get harder for the old bait and switch to continue, the truth about what they are really using is going to come out more and more....

fishing user avatarGorgebassman reply :

I guess its not possible that the speaker wasnt hanging over the side while the unit was in one of the storage boxes.

 ::)

fishing user avatarCyBasser reply :

Well... Ike does mention in his book something about "little white lies" that he (and presumably most other pros) says regarding equipment as they have to promote their sponsors whom are responsible for a large percentage of the pros income. I believe he mostly referred to the fact that they often say lies regarding succesful lures in order not to lose their sponsorships.

Although I agree that this is not honest, it would be suicidal (financially) for a pro to admit in public that he won a tourney using the "AA" lure of the "A" manufacturer, while he is sponsored from the "Z" manufacturer (who is probably in direct competition with "A").

It can even happen with us, regular bass anglers. I have had a particular tackle importer (who gives me a 20% discount for being a very frequent customer) bash me for using yamamoto lures (imported to Cyprus by a diferent importer) and not the berkley imported by him (after an employee of him saw me catching decent bass on senkos).

It is really up to us to decide for ourselves what ought to work for us and not pay attention to the multitude of ads. With accumulated experience, it becomes easier to judge for ourselves. So we should leave the pros do what is best for them (ie promote their sensors) and we should decide for ourselves what piece of equipment (rod, reel, line, lure, or accessory) works for us based on our needs and experiences...

I hope you and all continue to think this.  ;D Ignorance of others only gives me an advantage. Everything works at some point in time and to throw it off to the side w/o using it, well...

Obviously you've never used it, and if you did and still say this, well, you didn't use it correctly.

fishing user avatarKy_Lake_Dude reply :

I thoght they outlawed biosonix in BASS tournaments. :-/

fishing user avatarflyphisher # reply :

Spnbait101, havent heard that but it a good point :D.....if bio-sonix worked that well it would be banned from tournaments or everyone that could afford one would have one.... $800+ is an expensive price for a little confidence for the average angler or tournament angler.

fishing user avatarguest reply :

I don't know if the biosonix works or not.

But think about it.

Why shouldn't it, or something similar be effective in stimulating bass behavior?

We all know that bass will react to "triggers"  like the flashing blades of a spinnerbait.

Bass can hear.

Why would they have this sense if they don't use it?

All predators are attracted to wounded prey.  Most predator hunters will use distress calls to attract carnivores.

It stands to reason that certain noises, like certain visual, or vibration (lateral line) cues will get a bass' attention and draw him to the source.

It works for the Ratltrap, why not the biosonix?

fishing user avatarprorope reply :

8-)

Don't back down from how you feel because some want to take you to task for saying it!

If it's not the truth it's a lie unless it's by accident, then it's a mistake.

But they all do it for a buck!

Don't make it right, but it is what it is!

Note- BASS would'nt let KVD use it in the classic!

fishing user avatarguest reply :

I think these posts are kinda funny.

We get soooooooooooooo self righteous about guys like Roland Martin and bill dance, and now ike because they endorse products WE don't believe in.

Like this is something new and unheard of in the world.

Please - Do you think tiger Woods' favorite car is really a Buick?

fishing user avatarspotaholic reply :

Avid, Great point. Living in Augusta GA I get to go to the Masters every year. Several years ago Tiger being sponsored by Nike and doing adds for the clubs shows up playing Mizuno Irons and Titliest Driver, Wedges and Putter. I have several people I know that have or are competing at the highest level in fishing that are sponsored by one company but fish other equipment.

It's kind of funny that this topic is coming up because I had a discussion with a friend over Ford, Chevy and Dodge and talked about my Grandfather who was a high roller with GM but always drove a Crown Victoria ( non GM product).

I don't think Ike is a sell out ( No Man Crush) but like has been said maybe it was the $$$$ that helped out not the product. Either way great fisherman and great with the fans.

I think it's funny that nobody mention that ALL the speaker crap is like CHEATING

I'm not sure why the biosonix is cheating, but using a depthfinder that will print out exactly where the fish are holding isn't?

Most pro's I have listened to have consistantly said that finding the fish is the difficult part.

Once they are located catching them is relatively easy.

The modern depth finder will actually give you an image of the structure and help you locate the fish.

The biosonix, allegedly stimulates feeding behavior, something most pros don't seem to worry about too much.

I think the Concept of using audible stimuli to motivate the fish probably has merit.  I'm just not sure the biosonix is the "edge" that will make an average fisherman into a champion.  It that were the case the $800.00 would be a bargain.

fishing user avatarBornXEyed reply :

Flyfisher, "If you get confused listen to the music play."

fishing user avatarpowerman970 reply :

I have decided to list my integrity for sale for $800.00 so I can use the money to purchase a product that someone else may or may not have sold there integrity to endorse.  Then we will see if it really works or not.

In the grand scheme of things, who cares????  I own a Stratos boat but if Ranger offers me 50 grand to go on tv and say how great their boats are I'd be all over it.  Then I would continue to fish from a Stratos.  If I don't sponsor it someone else will so I might as well take the cash.

It is not a matter of integrity.  It is a business decision and Ike may be telling the truth when he says he could not have won without it.  Think about it, maybe what he meant was I needed some quick cash and without it I may not have been able to concentrate on my fishing that weekend.  Therefor he could not have won without it.   ;)

fishing user avatarguest reply :

I'm going to make one more post then leave this thread who still care.

There are ALOT  of pro bass fishing wannabe's out there.

All they seem to talk about is how to get sponsers.

I know guys will contact the company's whose products they use, but as we have seen right here on BassResource.com guys see a new bait company and immedicately contatct them for sponsorship.  They have never used the bat.

They "sell" themselves based on their resume, exposure, tournament wins, # of tournaments fished. etc.

Let me say it again.  THEY HAVE NEVER USED THE BAITS.

It's business.

Tiger sells buicks, I'm sure he owns one but you can bet theres' also a a Lambo in the garage.

Michael Jordan sells hanes, I don't doubt he has drawers full of tightie whities, but you can bet he gets he has monogramed silks

Let's face it guys, if bass pro's couldn't scratch out a living via endorsements, there probably wouldn't be professional bassin'
