Only if you want one.

yes

It's good for certain applications. If you are serious about making videos get a non- fisheyed camera and a tripod and film yourself instead of using a headcam. It is very convenient to use for applications you need both hands for.

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

i think they pay for themselves quickly...i spent a chunk on the black with batteries, wall chargers and crap but every red cent was worth it to be able to relive the days...pics are just lame compared vs having the actual catches on vid...plus you can take screen captures to get stills...

theres software that eliminates the fisheye & also on the Black you can shoot on either 1080p or 720p HD @ 60fps on the "Narrow" setting POV = virtually no fisheye effect at all and is like a fixed zoom so you don't have the depth issue as other wide view settings create without compromising vid quality...the silver you can shoot on narrow @ 30fps but vid quality suffers ='s grainy compared...had the silver and took it back & got the black, worth the extra $$ imo...

fishing user avatarflyfisher reply :

There are plenty of ways to mount them and for fishing, the head mount is probably the last option I would recommend.

X2. I have a black as well and its worth every cent. I haven't scratched the surface of what that thing is capable of. Remeber though, you'll need a good pc to really maximize the potential of a GoPro. Its not just the camera that does all the work. So figure that into your decision making process.

And I'm going the exact opposite way, don't even want to be bothered with a camera or smartphone anymore.

fishing user avatarflyfisher reply :

Also as far as the fish eye goes it all depends on the resolution you use and you can get rid of it easily in the software or by getting a different lens.  I have never seen it as a problem myself.

I also use mine as much for when we go to the shore or the river or pool to film my 3 year old son as i do for fishing.  It is great to have a fully waterproof camera and video that is not much bigger than a smartphone.

I cant remember if it's Bass Pro or Cabelas but one of them is having a sale on Black Friday for a pretty good reduction.  I'd rather stab my eyes with pencils than go out on Black Friday but if you have that shopping warrior spirit, go for it.

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

stock up on batteries!!  i recommend getting the digipower wallchargers which also come with a gopro battery...you may want to get like several of'em eventually so you can get all your batteries charged fast if your fishin consecutive days, has worked out well for me atleast...charging 1 at a time via the camera/puter sucks...

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/digipower-battery-and-charger-kit/9076051.p?id=1218984794423&skuId=9076051

Gopro has a new dual wall charger now. Getting one myself from Santa

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

thats cool if you already got the batteries & don't find the usb charging deal annoying...$29.99 for the dual charger plus $19.99 for a single battery...the digipower is $29.99 and comes with a battery...so for $60.00 bucks for 2 digipower chargers (outlet) with 2 batteries included...got to spend $70.00 for the gopro dual charger and buy 2 batteries separate to somewhat compare what bang you get for your buck...

Just got my gopro hero 3 black from best buy. Got to learn how to use it but I am going to test it out tomorrow.

Any gopro Pros that can provide me with any info on programs and how to edit I'd appreciate a PM. Going to do a little research tomorrow before I head out.

fishing user avatarFrog Turds reply :

sweeeeeeeet AK!! eventually i'll be able to watch YOUR froggin vids :)  i currently just use movie maker that comes with windows, just open the file in there and can do basic editing...best thing is to just take some "whatever" footage, upload it into moviemaker and fart around with stuff for starters/practice...

theres software that will give you free trials like corel video studio so you can see if you like it or not...

fishing user avatarSiebert Outdoors reply :

I have the black. I'm still learning how to use it. Like said above a good computer is a must.

Yea turds unfortunately I got my gopro a few months too late cuz I was killing them on the frog in the summer, had some big fish and some violent explosive strikes, can't wait to capture that on film when the frog bite comes back.

I used my go pro today when I was out for a couple hours, they wanted the KVD 1.5 (in my secret go to color). When I loaded the videos to my computer I was amazed by the quality! I was using the head mount and wasn't sure if I was getting the shot but it was amazing.

I fish from the bank but I wanted to make a floatation device that I can mount my camera too and throw it out to capture some underwater shots. What I really want to caputure is a fish taking my bait, that's be awesome.

I need to figure out how to edit the videos. Turds you were saying something about movie maker. Will give it a shot tonight. Going out again tomorrow with a buddy of mine from the site hope we get into some fish. Today I got 4 fish on 5 casts all captured on the gopro it was pretty cool.

fishing user avatarMarkH024 reply :

Go pro has some software you can dl from their site. Not bad for doing beginner editing. They have templates too to work from.

Hey guy I was wondering if anyone uses the gopro app on their smart phone? I am trying to set mine up and it asks me for the password to connect to the gopro wifi.  Anybody know what it is, I have searched in the booklet and nothing.

thanks for any responses

fishing user avatarflyfisher reply :

i believe when you set up the wifi you establish a password.  I know there are specific steps to follow and i think i found them online but i also have the HERO2 with wifi backpack so it math be a little different than the current models.

I will try to set up my own password when I get back home but I'm not sure it works because I saw something that said to put renew lease if it couldn't connect and I tried that and it didn't work.

I have the hero 3 black edition

fishing user avatarAK-Jax86 reply :

I figured it out I had to erase my memory card and register my gopro on their site and download the update.  Now I can access my gopro on my iphone and see what it sees, technology is amazing

fishing user avatarBassnChris reply :

What is the difference between the GoPro hero 3 and the GoPro hero 3+ ?

EDIT........I found this: The benefits of having the new Hero 3+ are:-

Better battery life, approx 20-30% better

SuperView, extra wide angle

Faster wifi, less lag, around 1sec now compared to around 4secs

Smaller housing, smaller and lighter but less waterproof, only 40mtrs compared to 60mtrs. Although you can still use the Hero 3 housing if you need the extra 20mtrs

There have been some complaints of the Hero 3+ have less focus at distant but it looks like this could be resolved in the latest batch of Hero 3+ cameras.

I got my Hero Black today. I can't believe these things are so small. I always figured they were larger. Got the WiFi set up on my phone. It's so much easier to control the camera with my phone ans iPad vs the camera.

The SD card was shipped separately so it should be here in a couple days. Definitely need to get a few more batteries.

Get a charger. Either the dual one from gopro or the one Frog Turds suggested. Its a pita charging one at a time in the camera. Have fun with it!

i also have a 64 & 32, both Scan disk...which i've filled the 64 a couple times on the water doing all day'ers...so i always have the 32 with me as back up if i run out...when i'm out fishin on long days i think i go through around 5/6 batteries & currently have 7 total...

Oh and make sure when you buy Micro SD cards that they are class 10 cards. If you put in anything less, they're bound to fail even if they seem to work initially. I got a 64gig ScanDisk on Amazon for like 40 bucks on some killer saving. I also have a 32gig one. Stick to reputable companies that will back the warranty. ScanDisk / Kingston / Patriot are a few I have used.

We stocked up today. Got the wall charger with battery, 2 extra Go Pro Batteries, 4 ScanDisk 32 gig cards, the LCD screen and the tripod mount. 4 batteries and 5 cards otta be ok for a week in a half in Maui.

maybe it'll be enough, each of the 32gig cards will give you around 4ish hours of vid, each vid file will be in GB's and take up more than you may realize...with the LCD screen & wifi on, its gonna blow through batteries like a crack head...i'd approximate 1 battery for every 1hr of footage...even on the gopro site, which i feel their times are overrated for battery life in general, states 1 hr of battery life with the LCD on the Black, add the wifi and could be even less...

I have noticed the same when using the LCD screen and wifi the battery drains much faster. I need to invest in a few extra batteries

fishing user avatarMarkH024 reply :

I've said this before but don't leave your battery in the camera if you're not using it for an extensive amount of time. I noticed that when one of mine stays in the camera it performs probably 30-40% less filming time than one that is fully charged waiting to be used. No real proof other than my own observation. FWIW

I figured it would eat it up pretty good. The LCD screen is more for my fiancé. She wanted a camera that she can see the photos as she takes them. When videoing I don't plan to use it.

We got the 32 gig cards as Best Buy had the 64 gigs for 99 dollars and the 32's for 29.99 on sale. It only made since to get more bang for our buck.

It that over time with the same battery after its been recharged or just after its been sitting in the camera?

fishing user avatarMarkH024 reply :

Just sitting in the camera waiting for use.  Not actually deteriorating the battery life span.  I haven't had mine long enough to know if the life span is actually affected or not. I'd imagine like anything with rechargeable batteries, they will go bad at some point in time.

Just got a black 3+ last weekend for my Bday.  I've been playing with it and even made a video of stupid crap around the house.  The editing software is amazing.  I can't wait to get some action footage.

I gave it to Nicole and said shoot some cat footage.  Here is the first lame video.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kb1t_3CPLg

I'm not a techie and only spent 10 min working on it with a template.  You guys with some tech skill should be making awesome videos in no time.
