Humminbird 570 2024

fishing user avatar(='_'=) reply :

hey. i got a humminbird 570 fish finder, without DI. i got it installed on saturday, and used it for the first time on sunday. it read the temperature and depth, but i couldnt get any more information than that. it didnt show the bottom profile, structure, fish, anythin, just a white line with occasional black vertical lines....

we realized when we are at full speed, the fishfinder is almost out of the water... however, the finder is already low on the transom, it actually hangs a little under the transom, maybe half transducer is below....

so, i will move it lower to prevent it from coming out of the water.... but besides that what could the problem be?? maybe the angle is not set correctly??

by the way, i had to route the transducer cable parallel to some electrical cables, but tried to separate them, and didnt use the same ties, in order to prevent a possible interference. i also let the transducer cable hang loose while the electrical cables are tight, so there is not much contact between them... i dont know if this works or not, but thought it couldnt hurt....

thanx!

fishing user avatarWayne P. reply :

The number one installation criteria is the transducer face has to have a smooth non-aerated water flow across face work properly all the time. If you send me two pictures of your transducer installation; one from the side and the other straight behind it from a low angle so I can see some of the hull bottom. I can critique it.

Angle could be an issue, hull location can be an issue too.

You didn't do the photo that shows some of the hull bottom, What is forward of the transducer has a bearing on performance.

What boat brand and model is it?

fishing user avatarWayne P. reply :

Does the unit perform properly at idle speed?

fishing user avatar(='_'=) reply :

hey. the boat is a kingfisher, 17´ i believe, they say its from 1981 but the motor plate is from 1977 so i think the boat is also from that year... the unit performs the same (or should i say, does not works) when moving fast, slow, or completely stopped....

and, i just requested my friend the picture, when he gets home he will send it to me...

fishing user avatar(='_'=) reply :

here is the pic that shows the hull bottom...

fishing user avatarWayne P. reply :

That looks good as far a hull smoothness. A better location is where it looks like one has been before to the right of the trailer bunk. Still put a little downward tilt on trailing end of the transducer. The Humminbird transom transducers are not as hydrodynamic as the Lowrance torpedo shaped ones are.

fishing user avatarTony Monticelli reply :

not an expert but with the fish finders Ive had, ive had the opposite problem, surface noise would put allot of clutter of the screen and out of the water it would find more fish than in the water.. ive sent sonar all over my backyard when i first got the thing and there are allot of lunkers back there depth reading would be all over the place ... even out of the water and in your driveway that thing should be buzzing low water depth 2 feet...

i mounted mine using an old trolling motor mount, took the motor out put a pipe in there attached the transducer to the end of the pipe ran the cable up the pipe to the unit and now i can lower it into the water a good foot below everything making noise, that got rid of the clutter and bad readings and made it more accurate but if i raise it up to the surface or pull it out of the water it finds lots of fish and stuff.

so i have no clue why your having the problem your having with it, id say call the toll free tech support and see what they say?

good luck

fishing user avatarTony Monticelli reply :

i remeber using my fishfinder little 110 buddy pordable as a fish finding wand... i had that thing out of the holded and aiming it all over the place looking for fish more than it was in the strait down position,, that thing was a 360 degree fish finding machine..

fishing user avatar(='_'=) reply :

thanx for the input!!

the reason i put it there and not where i removed the old transducer, is because on the instructions it said to measure at least 15" from the end of the prop to the transducer... so right now the transducer is at 15", the old location was about 11" from the prop...

so, what do you suggets?? should i move it to the original position, and tilt it a little more downwards??

fishing user avatarTony Monticelli reply :

well it does sound like you need to get it more in the water and off the surface, but it also sounds like you need to push buttons and play with the settings, increace gain/sensitivity, is the beam on wide or narrow,, does it split screan with bottom lock that gives you the best bottom views etc etc etc....

make something up as a temporary mount that you can move around and etc... just sticking it at the old spot might not be any good either if it starts getting clutter from the engine boat hull etc...

fishing user avatar(='_'=) reply :

thanx tony!! this is the first fish finder i have seen, so i dont know how to adjust it properly.... i played with it a little bit last weekend when i installed it, but i increased/decreased sensitivity, and pushed every button and access every option it has, and i didnt get any improvement... thats when i began thinking the problem was more in the transducer or cable, rather than on the settings, as i couldnt get a bottom view, not even when moving only with the trolling motor or completely stopped...

fishing user avatarTony Monticelli reply :

increase the scroll speed?

fishing user avatarTony Monticelli reply :

well re-set it to factory setting first there should be a button for that.... make sure to wait between adjustments also, sometimes there a little lag time between adjustments before they take affect... also put something down in the water should pick up a jig as a little spot that moves up and down and toss somthing big like an ancor it should pick that up all the way to the bottom if it only picks it up here and there on the way down increase scoll speed and senitivity till you can see it fall all the way down etc...

fishing user avatarWayne P. reply :

The unit will perform very well with the factory settings. You just need to install the transducer correctly for the best performance for your hull.

The 15" suggestion is for inboard type boats where the propeller is forward of the transom.

fishing user avatar(='_'=) reply :

thanx!!

so, what do you suggest?? to first place the transducer where the original one was, a little more to the right as can be seen on the first pics?? should i also lower it more, or angle it more or something?? and then return to Factory settings (Default)??

fishing user avatar(='_'=) reply :

increase the scroll speed?

i lready moved it as fast and as slow as it could go, without effect....

fishing user avatarcody161 reply :

I have this same unit installed on a 16' Nitro. My transducer is mounted on the starboard(right) side of the boat, it looks like mine may be a little lower than yours, and it looks like yours needs to be rotated more so that the skinny end is pointed a little more towards the ground.

fishing user avatar(='_'=) reply :

thanx, ill lower it a little more tonight and see if that helps... what do you mean "the skinny end"?? i understand tilt it so the rear part gets lower, maybe only a notch on the adjustment washers, right??

Read my first post today again. As far as the total height, you start with the position described in the installation instructions.

Re-read your transducer installation instructions and pay attention to the diagrams and measurements.

If you don't have them: http://store.humminbird.com/media/document/M_XNT_ALL.pdf

Yes, the Default settings.

Yes, that is correct. It will probaly be only one notch like you said. I have an old trolling motor transducer that does the same thing...It only displays a flat bar across the top, and nothing else. I believe it is finally new tranducer time for it.

fishing user avataroteymc reply :

Howdy, I am the one who sold you the unit. I just came across this thread. I do believe you have the transducer installed too high, but you should still be getting some kind of bottom reading and you shouldn't be getting any vertical lines. It had been a while since I used that unit, and I tested it before I shipped it, but I wonder if the transducer is bad. Let me do some research and I may need to switch out the transducer for you. If you will have some patience I will make it right, which I know is a lot to ask - when you buy something it should work. I hate that it isn't working right for you.

You could also try a ferrite suppressor if moving the transducer doesn't work.

fishing user avatar(='_'=) reply :

thanx for your comments!!

this weekend i went fishing, so on friday night i did what you said, lowered the transducer, tilt it downwards one notch, and reset to default settings.... on saturday i went to the lake, and still, the FF only displays temp, depth, and vertical lines here and there... but no bottom contour, no structure, and, of course, no fish....

now, as Oteymc mentioned, i purchased the fish finder from him... my next step after trying to set the FF properly, was going to be to send him an email to ask for his help... but this wont be neccesary, as he already contacted me telling me he is going to send me a new transducer... i really appreciate it, as he mentions, when you buy something you expect it to work, but i know this things happen and theres no problem, hopefully we can make it work soon....

meanwhile, i removed an older humminbird from my boat, you can actually see where to other transducer was mounted on one of the pics posted earlier.... this other FF is going on my other boat, but, i believe the transducers are similar and the plugs are the same....

so, my question is.. can i plug the other transducer to see if it is actually a transducer problem?? what will it read if i turn it on without putting it in the water?? because i can take the boat to the lake maybe in 2 weeks, but i could try the other transducer tomorrow afternoon.... but i dont know if out of the water it would give me some reading or something to let me know it is actually a bad transducer and it needs replacing...

fishing user avatarWayne P. reply :

yes if the other unit is a regular sonar unit

fishing user avatar(='_'=) reply :

ok, Otey just sent me a pic of how his screen looks like with the fish finder ON and out of the water, i will try plugging the old transducer and see if it shows something... if it does then i will know i need a new transducer, if it doesnt, then ill come back for more help....

fishing user avatarWayne P. reply :

You cannot tell if or how the unit is working out of the water. The only thing you can verify out of the water is the transducer is transmitting since it makes a clicking should.

fishing user avatar(='_'=) reply :

well, Otey send me a pic of the screen with the boat out of the water, and you can see the black line that represents the bottom.... i guess if i see something differente than a white screen, i will be able to tell the transducer was the problem??

fishing user avatar(='_'=) reply :

well, Oteymc sent me a new transducer, thanx again Otey!

yesterday i tried it, and, as you may have guessed, i am getting a signal now... it makes a clicking sound, something i hadnt noticed with the other transducer... plus, now im getting some signals, most of it was a flat black line, but i assume this was because it was out of the water... also the depth was not accurate, since i would move it 3 feet and it would read the same, it read about 4 feet regardless of the height i put it... and at first i was getting a temp reading but then it dissapeared. im assuming all these is because it was out of the water... so tonight im going to install the transducer in the transom, and tomorrow ill take it to the lake to see if i can get something....

thanx!!

fishing user avatarWayne P. reply :

You can't tell how the unit works if it is not in the water. Sound travels about 4 times faster in water than air. The unit is programmed for water

yes, thats what i was thinking.... at least i have now a transducer that actually clicks, and the screen shows something else besides depth and temp....

yesterday night i installed it on the boat, and i used the location where the previous transducer was mounted.... hopefully this location will be better...

today after work im heading to the lake to try it out, i will report here and ask a few questions about the readings since i dont know how to interpret the screen...

thanx!!
