MEGA 360 Is Here 2024

fishing user avatarJanderson45 reply :

Just saw the press release.  Had to know it was coming... happy I didn’t buy the regular 360 in the past year like I wanted to.

I got the email also. As far as temptations go, this is one I may not be able to resist. I currently have a Helix 10 GN2 Mega SI and have looked at the 360.  It currently is mounted to the trolling motor. The 360 is more suited I think to the kind of fishing I do. I have a buddy who wants to buy my Helix. Do I need SI and 360 MEGA? It seems like I could just use the DI version and MEGA 360. What do you think?

fishing user avatar12poundbass reply :

There you go @A-Jay

Decisions decisions, Ultrex or MEGA 360. Or both?

fishing user avatar12poundbass reply :

Yikes you need a Helix Gen3 or a Solix Gen2 if I’m understanding correctly.

That's not the way I read it. It says "MEGA 360 Imaging is compatible with SOLIX® Series and HELIX® Series fish finders equipped with MEGA Imaging®."

fishing user avatarA-Jay reply :

I'm really stating to dislike these people  . . . .

What the heck am I supposed to do with my current (old) 360 unit and Fortrex ? ? ?

And the associated cost of either replacing or adding another (Newer) Helix unit AND an ULtrex is

like two trips to Mexico . . including air fare ! ! !

I may have to either Un-Retire or start playing that Powerball thing a ton  . . or BOTH !!!!!

????

fishing user avatarA-Jay reply :

Just priced it all out -

To upgrade my 2 Helix units and my TM WITHOUT adding in the new 360, which is what's driving this whole deal,

I'm sneaking into the $6K neighborhood.

I'd expect that new 360 to be another K and a half anyway.

That's a pretty expensive neighborhood . . . .

Is there any demand for a pair of 3 year old 10 inch Helix units and a tough as nails 36V 112 Fortrex ?

Someone might end up getting a heck of deal . . .

fishing user avatarTennessee Boy reply :

Looking the the video with Ott frame by frame they show some pretty nice images in water over 20ft deep.   The deep water performance has been my biggest complaint with the current 360.  I'm looking forward to seeing some real world video that is not produced by marketing people.   It's very tempting.

Where are you seeing that is requires MEGA+?

MEGA 360 Imaging is compatible with HELIX G3N models with MEGA Imaging+ and can be shared with HELIX G3N and G2N models over ethernet. It can be directly connected to the following units:

at the very bottom of the page. Where else would you expect them to put it? Of course they wouldn’t put it at the top. I see what you’re seeing, they just require you to look at the whole page.

fishing user avatarTennessee Boy reply :

I see now.  It will work with any Solix over ethernet and can be connected directly to a Solix G2.    I'm not even gonna  try to figure out which Helix units it will work with.  I have a two first gen Solix so guess I have no excuse not to upgrade my 360.

fishing user avatarJanderson45 reply :

Yup, G2 solix and G3 Helix MEGA units is what I saw as well.  Can be networked to older or non-MEGA units.

I’ve got a G3N helix at the bow, but it’s just a 2D/GPS Model, so I’ll need to upgrade to a G3N MEGA unit somewhere in my network to run this.  Kind of frustrating that not one of my 3 helix units (all G2N or G3N!) can run this.  I wonder if that’s a hardware issue or if a potential firmware update to G2N MEGA units will make it backwards compatible.

fishing user avatarTennessee Boy reply :

The current 360 when connected directly to the network hub is equally shared and controlled by any FF on the network.  I'm thinking the new 360 might be controlled by a single newer model FF and shared over the network.  If that's the case then I'll need a new Solix :(

$6K will keep you current for 10-12 months max

fishing user avatarA-Jay reply :

Well, despite my feelings towards the following statement, I don't have enough time left on the planet to justify chasing this electronic money missile . . .

Pretty certain I'll be fishing what I have until this deal is done.

Been doing OK so far.

Besides, there is No Way I'm doing anything to undermine trips south of the border - just too epic !

Oh Wait ~

What about a Go Fund Me page ?

 Yea, that's it.

 For "A-Jay's New Electronics Package"

I can totally see the funds pouring in . . . .

Looks like a fun toy but I will pass. Never needed the newer electronics to locate bass and doubt I will need one of these devices in the future.

Yeah but be careful, make sure you only sell one half of paired organs. A guy can only really need one lung, kidney, leg, ear, etc. right?

In a nutshell you need a Solix Gen2 or a Helix Gen3 MEGA+ and it’ll share info with a Helix Gen2n

Yup - I’ll probably end up biting that bullet over the next year regardless, although I’ll also be interested in watching current 360 units in a fire sale ... the MEGA is nice, but when factoring in a whole new graph as well people like me will be able to save $1,500 or more by purchasing the older 360.

fishing user avatarDirtyeggroll reply :

It’s still not actually here yet. Humminbird needs to get it together.

Sheesh! I wasn’t aware it wasn’t out yet. With no Humminbird units anymore and a $1200 price tag, I’m not complaining. Looks pretty cool though!

What do you mean it's not here yet?

Edit* I was told when I bought my birds that it was available now, but I just checked the HB website and it is not. My fault. I got a lot of bad info when picking out my electronics, no surprise here. lol

Technically it has been released. But a very small number of units and any future are probably held up until April.

I've got the 360 and haven't been overly impressed with what I see on it. I think I'll wait for the Mega +++++++++++++++++.
