best sounds of "fishin" 2024

fishing user avatarKenDammit28 reply :

I was just sitting here thinking late at night after reading the "fish alone" post.....since its gettin warm and people are startin to get out...what are your favorite sounds out on the water?

I think my new favorite is the sound baitcasting gear makes when you hook into a good fish. I don't quite know how to describe it..but the sound is just really cool...and its always a nice thing to hear(that big girl on the end of your line).

I like the sound of frogs hopping off the bank into the water

the sound a bass makes as you get it to the boat or shore and it makes its last attempt to fight and has that splash in the water..just makes a good feeling.

more of an absence of sound...but when you're worm or jig fishing and you're so tuned in..and everything goes quiet.

Almost like above...when you're just taking that moment to pause..and it seems like the world stands still

the sound of a slight breeze and the birds

I think I like a lot of things about fishing...and its a lot of the reason I know I'll do it for as long as God lets me.

fishing user avatarRattlinrogue reply :

I fish alone now most of the time, and I usually get on the lake between 4:30AM-5:15AM.The sound I love the most is the silence when I'm out there, the only one on the lake, the world asleep.Second, would have to be the sound of a smooth drag as a healthy 5 pound Florida bass makes a run.

fishing user avatarKana reply :

the quintessential sound of summer fishing in particular is the "singing" of locus, and crickets, in the evening.  in the morning its the gentle swoosh of birds flying around that sets the tone, that is until i latch on to that big A** fish, the drag is screaming, im yelling, tripping over myself and battling the fattie, the splash she makes when she jumps and the loud barrage of bilingual obsenity that flows out of my mouth  as she throws my lure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  luckily for others this usually only happens once!  all jokes aside, the tranquility of nature is the best sound to be heard anytime during a outing.

fishing user avatarLow_Budget_Hooker reply :

1.  The drag

2.   The sound of a big bass smacking my jig against the side of the boat when lipping him.

3.  The sound of my phone ringing with people who want to fish.

4.  The sound of bluefish or tuna boiling on a school of baifish (u with me Rolo?)

5.  The sounds of kids laughing and having fun at a C.A.S.T. event!

6.  The abscence of my bosses voice

7.  Thunder

8.  The hoots and hollers of other folks getting a nice fish

9.  Last but not least,....our own hoots and hollers for getting a nice fish!

:)

fishing user avatarMatt Fly reply :

Two sounds comes to mind this time of year in Texas.    The silence of a lake that is glassed and your working a top water very slowly and a big bass can't stand it and hits it, the sound is like a commode flushing, thats one, the other is me saying " incoming " which means I got a little anxious and jerked to soon before I felt the fish and my lure is flying back to the boat faster than it left.  Thus INCOMING!!!!

fishing user avatarcart7t reply :

Just 3 sounds, words actually...

"Get the net!"

fishing user avatarHawgin reply :

My favorite sound is that little grunt you let out when you feel a fish hit your jig or senko, and then you reel down a slam home the hookset.

fishing user avatarguest reply :

I like to hear the different birds calling and identify them by the call.  Then I look around and try to spot the bird that I heard to see if my ID is right.

As you can see, I am definitly NOT a tournament basser LOL

fishing user avatarWill reply :

I am with RattlinRogue, dead quiet and then a big bass blowing up on a frog.

Well said Hawgin  :)

My other favorite sounds are as follows

1.Nature's early morning silence

2.The sound of my bait quietly entering the water after each cast

3.The noise made by the birds and insects in the early morning mist

4.The sound of my spinning buzzbait blade as it trickles over the glassy-smooth water

5.The noise the water makes as it claps against the side of the boat

fishing user avatarCrazedL.IFisherman reply :

I love fishing in maine for a week each summer when the loons(type of waterbird) communicate across the entire lake with one another. Its a sound that puts a smile on your face. They are amazing birds. The sounds of top water lures espcially propeller lures chopping up the water in calm coves. It only happened once and i was using a senko continuously jerking it along the surface of the water in thick weeds. You could hear him inhale the lure and all of the water around it. The sound was fantastic. Lastly the sounds at dusk when bull frogs start making that croaking noise everywhere.

fishing user avatarKU_Bassmaster. reply :

#1 - I am not a big fan of spinninf reels, bu there is nothing like setting the hook and immediately start to hear that drag signing (big bass or log .... :Plol)  I wish they could somehow work that sound into baitcasters

#2 - A jitterbug's gurgle as you work it over a glass surface

#3 - Hearing bass ,or just big fish in general, break the surface early in the morning

#4 - The sound of a bug outboard screaming across the lake

#5 - Birds

#6 - The sound of nothing at all.

There are just so many .... these are the few that just came to the top of my head.

fishing user avatarGetthenet reply :

My partner saying "Not another one!"

fishing user avatarKenDammit28 reply :

the "bugs" here in Kentucky surrounding early morning water is another good one.

The steam off morning glass water.

You guys are really coming up with some good ones.  Makes ya think about just how much you really experience on a fishing trip, at least it does for me.

Another one:  The "OHHH GOD" you inevitably say when you hook into a good fish.

fishing user avatarLow_Budget_Hooker reply :

Getthenet-I hear ya! lol

Ok, I got one,I got one, how about the sound made when you have to smack the jig with the palm of your hand to "pop" it out of the roof of the bass' mouth.

fishing user avatarcajun1977. reply :

i love the silence     especially when the stinking waterskiers are out

fishing user avatargatrboy53 reply :

THE ROAR OF THE MULTITUDE OF MOSQUITOES AT DAWN AND DUSK,BIG FAT BULLFROGS CROAKIN,A BULL GATOR CALLIN UP A MATE.THE HOOT OF A LONELY OWL...WHO-WHOO-WHO-WHOOO!!!....THAT SMALL STILL VOICE WHEN ITS JUST ME AND HIM AND THIS WONDERFUL WORLD OF NATURE HE CREATED....SORRY ABOUT THE SHOUTIN

fishing user avatarpaparock reply :

The sound of a drag screaming as line hisses out your rod's guides.

fishing user avatarMadhouse27 reply :

I like the sound a BIG bronzeback makes as it re-enters the water after a nice jump. With my last boat, the sound of the outboard actually starting up always managed to put a smile on my face. Like some of you already said, I like it simply being quiet enough to hear little individual sounds.

fishing user avatarice0329 reply :

You all just about got my favorites posted but there is one I didnt see.  When your fishing at night, not nessaserally for largemouth but when your fishing for walleye and hybrid striped bass.  Your fishing usually spooks or pop r's, most the fish explode on it but the sound I love more then that is the non splashing POP !  The big ones just pop it and rip the pole out of your hands.  If you fished at night for these guys you know the sound.

fishing user avatardink reply :

Well it seems everything I would write down for this post has already been written... with the exception of one.  I fish all winter long here in the midwest (lunacy, I know!) and there is nothing in the world like fishing during a good snowfall.  Not a storm, but a calm slow descent of frozen water over a lake.  You'd have to experience it to know what I'm talking about.  The snow muffles all noises around falls to earth in complete silence.  Mother Nature is beautiful!

fishing user avatarKenDammit28 reply :

dink..one of my favorite times to be outside(bundled up real good, of course) is in the middle of a large field or forest during a good snowfall.  The sounds that are made seem so amplified and if you stop and stand still...the world seems to be in dead silence.  Its such a calming and joyful feeling.  Does anyone else feel like...nature or the outdoors is more of a spiritual thing than anything else?

fishing user avatarnorthgabassfisher reply :

The only sound I hate when Im fishing is when my partner says GET THE NET... its a biiiiiiiiggguunnn!!!! lol

and the sound I love is when you get a BIG fish up to the boat, and your partner says not another one.lol

fishing user avatarCurado reply :

1. A big bass killing your topwater.

2. Rain and a little thunder

fishing user avatarsenko_77 reply :

my absolute favorite sound when fishing is bein in a boat and hearin it excellerate.  i dont know why, but i could listen to this all day.  its just shear power pushin you back into your seat, and that motor is screamin behind you.  i love it.

fishing user avatarbassnleo reply :

I like everything already mentioned!

My favorite is that pzzzzztt that braid makes when you cross a bass's eyes after a perfect pitch or flip.

Another favorite is the sound of mono or floro singing when your fighting a fish.

fishing user avatarabelfisher reply :

When you get to the boat ramp and it is still pitch black outside.  You get out to check out the situation and just stand there for a few minutes to listen to nothing but the silence.

the sound of the birds and insects when you are the only perosn on the lake.

The sound of loons up on a very northern lake.  if you have never heard them, you don't know what you are missing.

The sound of carp jumping (when you really wish it were bass jumping) :)

Obviously, the sound a big smallie braking the surface and tail danicng on the water.

The future sound of my new 115 Merc EFI starting up on the water for the first time!  Now that's what I'm talkin' 'bout!

fishing user avatarIllinoisBasser reply :

Topwater right at sunrise...And then that first blow up.Being the only boat on the lake and hooking a good fish.

fishing user avatarBassbum80 reply :

My two favorite sounds by far are the loons in Minnesota & Canada and the sound of the outboard motor turning over at the begining if the day!

I second that!!!!!  I caught my first bass of '06 in the snow.  It was incredible.  It kind of felt like I was the only one on Earth. Sooooooooooooooooo silent.  I know what you mean.

fishing user avatardirectlink reply :

My favorite would defeniteley be the sound of a big bass blowing up on the surface.  Especially when it's nearly silent out and it echoes in the air a while.

fishing user avataruiubassin reply :

My favorite sounds are:

1) bass hitting frog on lily pads

2) buzzbait on the water in the morning

3) start of take-off in the morning during a tourney

4) the sounds of a topwater disturbing the water

5) the sound of my dad, d**n son, you caught another LOL

fishing user avatarNick B reply :

I like to hear the bzzzzzzzzzzzzz-plop, when you make a cast.

fishing user avatarbassinchik reply :

A couple of sounds come to mind for me. One is kinda scary but gets the adreneline pumping.  RRogue and I are on the water before sun-up, and from time to time we used see a 14 ft. gator swim across in front of us and snap a duck, white feathers fluttering in the early morning light.....sounds really gross, but it definitely is a rush to be so close to such a fantastic animal.  He was relocated a year ago, I will miss him swimming beside the boat.

Another sound I enjoy is my own voice screaming, "ED! ED!", when I hook a nice bass (or chain pickerel).

fishing user avatarBass Hammer reply :

Mine, without a doubt, is watching a sun rise and listening to the water and the woods wake up.

Whether I just got in the water early or was out all night I will always stop and watch the sun rise.

That is my church.

fishing user avatardink reply :

Ken and KU,  SPIRITUAL indeed!!

fishing user avatarCounselB reply :

For me, it's sitting in the boat in the early morning with the mist rising off the glass smooth lake with the sun rising but not yet clearing the mountain top and the only sounds you hear are the insects, frogs, and birds. I've cast a topwater plug and am letting it sit. As I'm enjoying, and am absorbed in, the beauty, tranquility, and peace surrounding me, a bass erupts out of the water and engulfs my plug dang near scaring me out of the boat. That's the sound and cirumstances I like best.

fishing user avatarRoLo reply :

Whenever fishing, I'm always listening to the natural sounds around me.

I really enjoy identifying birds unseen just by their song or note.

A little more climactic, I also thrill to the deep gutteral bellowing

made by the male alligator (particularly awesome at close quarters)!

More to the sport, I get an adrenalin rush whenever I hear that telltale splash

of a feeding bass. When actively foraging in the shallows, bass are literally suicidal.

Roger

fishing user avatarGeorgiaBassman reply :

the sound of the fishing hitting my top water lures aint nothing like it.

fishing user avatarKU_Bassmaster. reply :

I'll add another one .... The sound of the lake waking up in the spring after a long winters nap.

fishing user avatartopwaterbob reply :

That sound of my buzzbait plopping in the water and the chirpping it makes as it is reeled back to the boat. Better yet the sound of a big one smacking it off the water. At first light fishing close to shore and hearing some deer breaking the silence coming to the waters edge. Watching an eagle soar overhead and hearing their call. Something I sadly miss is my dads' voice telling me to watch my bobber go under.

Bob
