Favorite aspect of Bass Fishing? 2024

fishing user avatartrevor reply :

What is your favorite aspect about bass fishing?

For me it's definitely trying to figure the bass out.

fishing user avatarI.rar reply :

#1 would be trying to figure them out.

close seconds would simply be the enjoyment of being out on the water. it also depends on what goal/s i have set that day. i may be out trying new things to see how the fish and myself like them. other days i may go out and try to learn the bottom composition on some local lakes. but ultimately , im just trying to figure them out.

fishing user avatarMaxumBass reply :

For me its about being with someone I enjoy being with, weather its my wife,my son, my brother or a good friend. That's what makes fishing the best for me. I fish by myself many days and its just not the same...

fishing user avatarjdw174 reply :

I just enjoy being out on the water, especially at first light, a little mist on the water.  Second would be figuring out what they're hitting on for that day or maybe working on learning a new technique.

fishing user avatarGrey Wolf reply :

The anticipation.

fishing user avatarFL_Sharpshooter reply :

For me, its the rush I get when I feel that bass strike the line.  I think that's what keeps us all coming back for more.

fishing user avatarslonezp reply :

That the next strike could be a new PB

fishing user avatarNateFollmer reply :

Not knowing whats on the end of my line... That's kind of why I hate sight and bed fishing... I know what's coming up! Unless its a tank, then I don't care if I see it or not.

fishing user avatarMissouribassman95 reply :

Probably for me, is feeling the strike at the end of the line and not knowing how big the bass  is. Oh and out fishing my dad.

fishing user avatarshootermcbob reply :

The whole experience. I love being out in the early am while still dark, jitterbug gurgling away, and WHAM comes the strike.

I love hearing the turkeys gobble, water being so still, the bump at end of my line, the anticipation that comes with each cast. All of it. I only started started fishing a few years ago, and now I can't get enough of it. I would go everyday if I could.

fishing user avatarFish Chris reply :

#1 for me, would just be, being out on the water, especially on a crisp Spring morning, water flat as glass......

Next would be the adrenalin rush of sticking a monster.....

Or even, sighting a big fish (doesn't matter if it's on a bed, cruising, or just hanging out) and making a cast towards it ! That gets my blood pumping ! {if its a really big fish, sometimes I start shaking :)} Then, if it shows signs of interests, that brings it up to the next level. Finally, if it actually bites, and I hook it, now the adrenalin is pumping full blast !

Honestly, I think by the time I land it, the adrenalin pump is subsiding.....

But that whole thing is why I fish for bass.... especially big ones.

Fish

fishing user avatarScorcher214 reply :

If i had to pick one, it would be the catching process. Choosing a lure, the color, the size, the place, the retrieve, the rod, the reel, the line. So many factors come it to play when catching a fish that when i catch a fish, I feel like I got everything right. A great sense of satisfaction.

fishing user avatardeaknh03 reply :

I like hitting the water just before dawn, with nobody else on the water yet and it's as still as glass, then enjoying the sun as it rises and takes the chill off. Nothing better.

fishing user avatarSoFlaBassAddict reply :

Just being out on the water is enough for me.  I'm good with that.  Now, I still get excited just like when I was a kid.  If I'm going on a big trip or something, I'll have trouble sleeping the night before.  Just the thought of catching a huge fish will get my blood moving at warp speed.

fishing user avatargrimlin reply :

All of above.... ;D

fishing user avatarNibbles reply :

How relaxing it can be just being in touch with nature.

A day out fishing can alleviate a whole week's worth of stress for me.

fishing user avatardh88hms reply :

For me it's the relaxation.

fishing user avatarJig Man reply :

For me it is the toys: good reels, good rods, the electronics, the glitter sled, running from one spot to another and trying out my newest creations.

I do my relaxing at home in a soft chair with a cold beverage.

fishing user avatarShane J reply :

There are so many things I love about fishing, but I gotta say, that the most rewarding, is when I pass some knowledge on to my friends, and they just light up when it works, and they land a hawg.

fishing user avatarOHIO reply :

Probably a nice, solid hookset. It feels great when you know you got one on the end of your line.

fishing user avatarfishermantony reply :

The anticipation and being in nature.

fishing user avatarDock Master reply :

The unknowns because your always on the edge of your seat since you don't know what is going to happen next.

X2...crossing their eyes is what it's all about, especially when you set on what you immediately know is a big fish.  This is why circle hooks will never be on the end of my line.

fishing user avatarSeanW reply :

The moment between the tick and the hook set. Its the unkown, of a new PB, or a small fish.

fishing user avatarSENKOSAM reply :

Variety is the spice that keeps me going through all the expense and trouble. I think the reason I stop using lures I've finally done well on consistently is that the challenge lessens - been there/done that.

I did well on jig and trailers for consecutive years using pork, but that got old. Now with the new action trailers Zoom and Strike King have come out with, I'm back to trying jigs other ways.

Making soft plastics adds variety of design with theories why bass hit some of my creations. Used to be only big companies fed us new lures in the winter catologs. Now I just meditate on what I want a lure to do and then make it. Catching fish on it is just the icing.

Just the idea that a bass or other fish is attacking my lure with disregard for any danger, makes me thing of a lion attacking an animal it's postitive it can catch and kill. I am part of that chain and sense the uh oh in that fish when it's hooked.

Going to work day after day is a routine. Fishing should never be.

fishing user avatarBankbeater reply :

The end of the day when you can look back on how you figured out what the bass wanted and remember how the fight felt.

fishing user avatarfarmpond1 reply :

While the fishing experience is the culmination of many things, some factors weigh more heavily than others. For example, although I enjoy being out in nature, I would still fish if it meant being surrounded by buildings-so long as the fish bite. My very favorite aspect is the satisfaction of figuring the bass out and carrying it through. Hooking into a fish is the apex of my experience. This is why I like fishing soft plastics so much. I feel like I'm involved in the entire process.

fishing user avatarBassThumb reply :

Peacefulness of being on the water, and the challenge of locating fish is always fun, even if I get shut out once in a while.

fishing user avatarGangley reply :

the sounds, or rather the lack thereof.  no sounds of traffic, no conference calls, no cellphone ringing every 30 seconds, no unpleasant distractions.  only beauty

fishing user avatarHawghead reply :

For me it is pretty much the shebang.

When I really enjoy the solitude when am fishing alone and just really focusing on the next cast, move, lure change etc.

I also love fishing with a partner trying to work together and have a good outing.

I like the time fishing because it is 'me' time.  I am not dad, coach, teacher, husband, or whatever. I can leave all of that behind and just fish.

fishing user avatarbrushhoggin reply :

i dig this

1 Milon of lures ... a lot different tecnique of fishing.. you have to understand what the fish want... this is the best for bass fishing for me :)

fishing user avatarVinny Chase reply :

1) Being out on the lake on a nice summer day....and having a beer ;)

2) When I have a bad day, I like to evaluate what I could have done better, and improve on that for next time. Every day out on the lake is a learning process

fishing user avatarCSimon2 reply :

I have been fishing for about 30 years, but just recently got into bass fishing in the past couple of seasons.  My favorite aspect is the rush of having a bass on the line and thinking it is a huge one.  Also, nothing gets my blood pumping more than watching a bass strike a topwater lure.  This tells me I am doing something right.

I agree with this.  My greatest fishing excitement occurs at the moment when I detect the strike and set the hook.  I would fish if my lake were surrounded by buildings as well, but putting the nature experience and bass fishing together is the ultimate fishing experience for me.  I enjoy getting out in the sticks whether I am fishing, hunting, or just walking.  Combining that with bass fishing, experiencing the fight of a living organism, and then allowing it to survive to live and fight another day is why I love it so much.

fishing user avatarMOBASS reply :

For me, it's all about being in nature. I've waded through miles of streams in search of smallmouths, and I'll never get enough of it. I love wading a new stream, the new sights. Nothing is more peaceful than just sitting high atop a cliff looking over a river meandering through a valley of never-ending trees. Everything you see is hundreds or maybe even thousands of years older than you are and for eighty, or maybe even 90 years, you get to be a part of it. There is nothing better.

fishing user avatarGrundleLove reply :

For me its when i kick the bass back in the water. I've been trying out different shoes to see which gets the best distance.

Remember kids, always practice catch and release!

fishing user avatarroadwarrior reply :

#1 Is when a HUGE bass goes airborne!

#2 When a monster brown fish first sees the boat

and rips off 30 yards of line against drag!

8-)

fishing user avatarTriton21 reply :

It's all about the frying pan.  Yum, Yum.

fishing user avatarK_Mac reply :

An interesting thread. I would have a tough time saying what my favorite part of bass fishing is. Like others it is the whole deal. Sometimes the anticipation of a trip may be best part. I love the quiet and solitude at first light. I often enjoy the quiet and solitude of fishing alone. Fishing with my wife and sharing a day together doing something we both love is about as good as it gets. Fishing with a good friend is much the same. Figuring out what works, and then refining it to find bigger fish is a powerful rush; teaching someone else to do it may be as good. That feeling of anticipation when you feel the little tap that could be the biggest fish in the lake. On a private lake in the middle of an urban development or in the middle of nowhere, it's all good.

At one time a successful fishing trip was determined by how many and how big, as I get older I enjoy the process more. I still want to catch many big fish, but I can have a great trip whether I do or not.
