What polarized glasses do you use?
I want to know the best ones for brightening up what you are looking at.
I have a pair of $25 dollar Field & Stream ones that are horrible they take the glare off the water but the darken it up horribly.
I use the Costa Del Mar Fathom Series sunglasses with the blue mirror lens. I can't say I can see further in the water with them compared to $25 Solar Bats, but my eyes are not as stressed at the end of the day. I would never go back, they cost $150 but its worth it if you are a serious angler.
I use Action Optics. Cost about $80 and worth every penny.

Couldn't say it better myself. I wear the Turbines though. They fit my face better. I have also used H2O Optics, Oakleys, and Bolle. They were all pretty good, but he Costa's are my favorite. I still use my Bolle's on overcast days though because they have Amber lenses.
I recently got a pair of Dragon's with Polarized Lenses for $120. I notice a big difference between these and my $30 old pair that I got from Cabelas. The lense color is Gray and it brightens things up a little bit but not much.
i wear the oakley half jacket xlt, they seem to fit my face better than any other glasses. the feature i like the best on them is the replaceable lens, if you prefer darker or lighter all you have to do is pop them in. they run about $120 but well worth the money
I have Oakley Unknowns with amber lenses and a pair of Oakley 5s with grey. They are both great lenses. A buddy of mine owns an outdoor shop and gives me a pretty good discount.
i have only used the walmart polarized special, : they are not the greatest, but im afraid to buy expensive glasses beacuse im constantly leaving them at gas stations, scratching them up in my bag, littering the bottom of the lake with them, etc, etc. is there really that big of a difference between the cheap one's and the expensive one's?
Have a pair of Costa del Mars Blue Water--grey lens. Great fit, very comfortable, easy on the eyes. Came across a pair of Ono's this spring. Blue mirror wraparound with amber lens. Also they have a +2.25 magnifier in the bottom. Polarized readers, if you will. Been wearing them all summer. Even on the brightest of days, I come off the water and my eyes feel great.
Oakley Monster Dog
Bolle Swisher(you can get these at www.campmor.com for $40),everywhere else they are $75+
8) maui jims are the ones for me..... super comfortable and work awesome in any conditions... cost a left nut though...

I agree.
I do a lot of 3 day saltwater trips.
Other sunglasses I've used used gave me terrible headaches after being in the sun that long.
Problem solved with costa del mar.
Hammer
Solar Bat with Moss Back Green lenses.
I usually wear my REVO's with a blue mirror. They were pretty high, $250, but I only have 1 pair of eyes. Otherwise I'm wearing Maui Jim's.
I love my Solar Bats. I have the moss green lenses. They are awesome. And the pair I have, you can remove the stems and replace them with a goggle strap. That along with a foam insert cuts out all the incoming light, which is great for spring time sight fishing.
Solar Bats with moss green lenses. I used to use Maui Jims and they are awesome too.
Yes, there is a BIG difference in eyewear when it comes to price. If you are just wearing them to BLOCK the sun, then $50 and less is good for that, but to protect your eyes from Lake glare and to see into the water, you need to investigate and invest in some awesome eyewear, from some of the top makers of fishing glases. I have Oakley's, and Solar Bats. Both are very good and worth the price. Once you PAY the price you will SEE the difference.
I wear prescription polarized glasses. I hate taking 2 pairs of glasses with me, so I had a pair of prescriptions made. I own a pair of Maui Jim's that I wear when I am cruising on my Harley.
Due to the fact that me and sun glasses don't have a long life expectancy, I use the FLW renagade series for 14.99. I lose or brake about 1-2 pair a summer. They don't block out the light, they do knock the glare down, and I see under the water real well. I have had glasses upto 175.00 and couldn't tell much difference. Would I say these glasses have cost me a fish or two? NO. A lot of my waters are always stained and glasses aren't as beneficial until the water is clearer.
I am very opinionated on this subject. Watch out for glass that is designed for off-shore use (many maui jims, H2O's, costa del mars, etc) are designed to be worn by off-shore captains staring into the bright sun all day on open water. These lenese tend to be darker, even for the color they call out. This is not to say these companies don't make lenses that would be brightening and good for your application, you really need to go hands on and check the glass out in person.
I like Action optics for inshore use- they have every color and style in the world and are middle of the road on price.
Good luck- your glass is just as important as your line, lure etc. You only came with one set of eyes and you need them.
i use fitovers, they go over my glasses work good. act as a good pair of goggles when i ride.
i have the walmart 12.99 special too, polarized black lens wrap around. they seem to work pretty good, but i haven't tried the nice ones listed above yet so i don't have much to compare it to
Oakleys for me! They cut the glare but don't darken things too much. They work great for fishing and for driving. I drive about 50,000 miles a year with my job and I couldn't live without my Oakleys.
Costas, and I love them.
I will agree with Hydrilla they do seem to to be a bit darker than the other cheap lenses I have, but after having a Cornea transplant this summer, a little darker is a good thing for me.
By the way Hydrilla, have you and the better half had the new little one yet? If so congrats.
HuskerTKO- YES! He was born July 6, 2005. 7llbs 6 oz. Since then he has doubled in size to 15 lbs!
Crazy stuff! I can't wait until he is my fishing partner!
Thanks for remembering!
Happy Releasing,
HydrillaGorilla
Costas seem to costa lot but nothing compared to what it will costa you in loss of vision later in life from not protecting your eyes. If you want to protect your eyes, see into the water, and look stylish then the costa Costas will seem to costa you a small amount.
Amen astech!!!
This something I have a hard time understanding sometimes:
$25,000+ Bass Boat
$25,000+ Truck to pull the boat
Thousands of dollars worth of rods and reels
Thousands of dollars worth of tackle
................. Won't spend over $100 on a pair of sunglasses that could save your sight
oakley half jackets here....i mostly use the amberlenses they really brighten things up.....the wife got them for my last birthday what a lady
QuoteI wear seamless "bifarkles", so have to use clip-ons. I prefer the type that flip up, of course, but I can't find any large enough to completely cover my lenses.
FlyRod:
I had the same sort of glasses and found suitably sized/shaped polarized clip on/flip ups at LensCrafters...of course that was a while ago...and I'm sure they don't carry them any more... :-/
HTH...
I use Cocoons!!
