Supposed to be mid to high 40’s with Friday raining in the 60’s. I’m hoping to be fishing in two weeks. Last week was I think teens and 20’s might have stalled things abit, I’m really hoping it’s soon.
I'm on the same game plan, if not sooner.
You guys are killin me
Still lots of ice here in VT, warmer for the next few days should hopefully open up a few spots.
Going to be in the 60s for a couple of days this week. That should warm up the water a little for this weekend.
Same here ! Wednesday - Friday show 54-60 but then it gets back into mid thirty’s so I’m hoping maybe the little ponds around here thaw enough to fish! Come on spring
Well I drove by the pond yesterday and it had the nerve to not thaw out. The big problem is they decided to plow a 14’ high pile of snow right in my spot. How rude. That’s gonna take some time to disappear.
I already miss winter........ My deep bite is over
It's 68 here.

We'll be 68 on Thur. But then the wind will blow 40 mph, shift around and send us back in the 30's. That's March in Indiana.
60* tomorrow here in Milwaukee. We still have thick ice, but I'm hoping it breaks up soon with this weather. Can't bass fish til early May, but I'd love to get out and find some crappie.
Meanwhile, I'm stuck with temperatures between the mid 60's and high 70's
Of course, come mid June when it's 94 with 78% humidity I won't be smiling so much.
62 forecasted for tomorrow here!
Also a mid-day thunderstorm.
And then back down to the high 30s friday.
Still, by that point we'll have had, I think, the most consecutive days above freezing than we've hadin a couple months. Next week projected to be consistently 40s-50s and sunny -- not there yet, but things are looking up!
Before last week we had 15" of ice and I was driving my Jeep on the ice. Now it's 50*, raining, and wind blowing. I'm hoping to have the boat on the water in a few weeks myself. Sadly bass isn't open til early May, but I can still do a shakedown and fish for crappie.
The Lake Michigan launches are breaking open quick, hopefully our small lakes are soon behind.
Yesterday gave me hope! It actually hit 62 degrees and our snowpack decreased significantly here in MA. Still have ice on the ponds, but if these temps continue over the coming week, we'll be wetting the hull before April.
@Crestliner2008: I’m in Pittsfield and Cheshire Lake actually had an open area. Managed to take a new rod and reel out and practice backlashes for a couple of hours. No luck with a jig or lipless CB, but it felt s-o-o good to be fishing, even without the kayak. And I wasn’t the only one. Met one young fella who had saved up to get a Lew’s Crush combo and he was more excited than I. Didn’t want to disturb him but did get a kick out of watching him cast, pick out a bird’s nest, tweak his reel, and repeat as necessary. Looked to me as though he had it figured out by the time I left. Gonna be awhile before I do that again though.
We are fixing to have a cold snap this week. Temps will be in the 60s for highs. ????
I think one more week and my favorite little pond should open up. I checked on it yesterday a little water around the edges and ice is slushy grey color.

When the going gets tough the tough get going. It's 42 here and I'm going fishing. "Bundle up" and get out. Actually it was 70 here a couple of days ago but those temps just show up briefly this early. The bird chatter is picking up. Spring's coming.

You're killing me! LOL! Can't wait for open water around here. Won't be long. By next week I should be wetting a line. How is Onota doing? Can't be much open there yet? Or is there?
@Crestliner2008: My brother-in-law checked Onota yesterday (Sunday) to see if he could find trout around the launch area. Said it’s still solid and probably won’t be open for at least another two or three weeks.
Still ice fishing in north west Iowa ☹️ But 2-1/2 hours south should be open this weekend ???? can’t wait to tryout the new Terrova
I think I’m gonna have enough fishable water this weekend. It’s gonna be close.

Thanks for the update! If you can, please let us know if there is any break up in the ice!

I’m in mass also everything reasonably close to me was froze up.
Just checked, my faverite pond is open. Pretty sure two others will be good by this weekend.

I was out yesterday in MA. Only fished 2 hours. Had a bunch of hits, lost a big fish, spit the hook on the jump. Got a hard hit on a glide bait. All fish were on swimbaits. Fishing a wind blown point on the northern end of the pond.
That’s good news. Hoping to get out this weekend.
I'm trying to get out as well @Derek1, looks like Sunday will be the day to be outside...Near 60* and sunny. Hopefully the surface temps will warm by mid-afternoon.
I'll be out basically everyday. going to the same place today as yesterday

Our fish are much too educated to bite period. I just want a warmer breeze coming off the water. It’s bad enough I gotta spray my clothes with Fabreeze cuz I know I’m smelling of skunk on the way home, Id rather be warm while getting skunked
@Crestliner2008: Today, Sunday, April 7, I finally got back to Cheshire Lake. Saw four kayaks and one boat out fishing in the northern section. I was fishing from the fishing piers on Farnum Road. The northern section appears to be open. The center section is open along the western side but still iced on the eastern side. I’m getting my kayak down because I can access either from Farnum Road. I tried a lipless crank, chatterbait, jerkbait, jig, and T-rigged senko with no luck, but a wacky-rigged senko lying on the bottom resulted in my first Northern Pike! Measured over 28 inches and gave me a tussle on my spinning rig. Wish I’d taken my scale just to see its weight. It was fat and healthy. Haven’t checked Onota, but heard it was still pretty iced up.

Good to hear things are breaking up out there. Won't be long now. Congrats on your first northern! Back in 1984 I took a beaut out of Onota, trolling musky sized inline bucktail spinners - 22 lbs.. There are some big ones in there. Never fished Chesire. Just Onota and Pontussic. Have even taken some decent 12 - 15 lb. northerns out of our Oxbow here too. I love northerns. :)
Checking in from Western MA as well. Water's been open for like 2 weeks around me, but only recently have I gotten any bites. Went out 4 times the last 2 weeks, immediately after ice out, struggled to get any action. Rivers are flowing too fast, and too high, so those were a bust, and with lakes and ponds I've been searching for that magical 55+ water temp, finally found it this past weekend. Drove by the Oxbow, and the water looks HIGH. Not sure how I'd fare in there with a kayak lol.

There have been some kayakers out on the Oxbow this past weekend. And one guys was able to launch on the Rt. 5 ramp yesterday, but the water was half way up the parking lot!
