Wow!! Helluva story, I could not imagine...
Congratulations to Bill Evans for obtaining the new state record bass for Washington! That is a giant bass anywhere in the word.
Congrats to the man.
love it when that happens
it gives me wild dreams of that happening to me.
Congratulations to Mr. Bill Evans!
Thanks for sharing
That's a Hawg right there!
My favorite part of the story is that he had all kinds of mishaps and didn't even get out on the water until 1:30pm. Just goes to show ya- don't give up, and always just go anyways!

I have the same boat he does! Haven't landed a 12+ or state record...YET! Lol
All I can say is WOW!
Great story and fish!
Look how fat that fish is . I catch them that long and they look like they're on a Jenny Craig diet .
Congrats to Bill Evans,.. great story, great fish, with a state record to boot. Thats AWESOME!
And from under a dock ~
You just never know which cast could be The One.
Congrats to Mr Evans

Congrats Bill on a catch of a lifetime!!! ... although i would have preferred to hear/read the story from Bill himself.
That is an amazing fish. I have to chuckle though. As big as that fish is, he is still pushing it toward the camera to make it look bigger! ?
Wow, that's a nice looking fish.

How long is this fish ? Looking at bills hands and the fish doesnt appear to be that long . Its just shaped like a beach ball .

Give it a few day, you will and don't forget the SK lures.
Great story and awesome fish! The next cast could always be the one.

Yeah, it doesn't look much longer than 24" but I would image the girth is close to that same number.
Great read and Congrats to Bill!
CRUSHED the record. Good for him! All the nonsense in the comments about keeping the fishing or releasing it is nauseating. Fish of a lifetime!

That was what caught my eye. My screen saver on my desktop is me holding an 8 lb fish and they appear to be the same length, but his fish just has so much more bulk for the entire body.
It has the head & length of an eight pounder and the girth of a fifteen pounder (would that be correct WRB?)

When I read that paragraph, it made me smile. I have made that skip cast with that rig (albeit a Senko) under similar docks on my home lake thousands & thousands of times. Each time the line moves off or I set the hook, I wonder if it will be a lake record (I doubt a California state record lives in my lake, unless someone snuck in some Florida strain babies a decade or so ago).
Very cool. I love the well-loved cork on his spinning rod.
Congrats to Mr. Evans. Awesome fish and story.
Being a northerner, however, I couldn't help but take notice of this comment:
"Although it would be considered a big fish anywhere, a 7 pounder isn’t necessarily a trophy."
Hmmmmm.....

Shoot, most people would kill to catch a seven pounder where I live.
Impressive!
I almost lost it when I saw this! I have a lake here in south eastern wa that has Giants!
Everytime we go, we catch a 7+
but ive seen two bass cruzing the bank together, that under water, look to be 10+.
They make the 7's we've caught look like dinks!
so congratulations to mr Evans. But come next spring when the big girls in this lake are spawning, I'm catching that new record! Haha
Man, that's a freakin' halibut.
Wow! Congratulations to him! We are, on every cast, potentially, one strike away!
It is gratifying when this happens for one of the good guys. You will notice he considered releasing the fish but decided to call his wife first. If it is a record fish, then yes... I'm keeping that one. How many times in one's lifetime does that happen? Kudos
