How many of you read and familiarize yourself with the regulations of your state or one you are going to visit annually? Or every trip read the changes on the states Conservation or DNR site?
If you do not you could be missing out on great fishing or going to get yourself into trouble.
Here is what I typically do to protect myself.
I fish a few states and always read the regulations of that state for limits, seasons, etc. I also carry regulation books with me at all times when I'm in that state. I do this to protect myself from a mistake or if I get questioned about something I know the law. I also for some places highly recommend GPS and a map. When your fishing boundary waters this can also save you alot of grief. You have specific proof of where you are on a lake.

I thoroughly review my own state (Tennessee) regulations at the beginning of every season and have a copy of the regs in my tackle bag.
I've only fished out-of-state once recently and that was Florida. I had my non-resident license but I'll have to admit that I didn't go over the regs that well. I guess I get lazy since I C&R everything, don't use natural bait, only use one rod at at time, etc. Next time I go down there perhaps I better read up!

Walmart is horrible about carrying or giving out the handbooks. I didn't get one last year and the lady behind the counter couldn't find em'.
I also visit the DNR website right before fishing season starts to read up and fresh up a little. I don't always remember everything and things change almost every year.

i do and carry the Texas P&W handbook in my truck. Being on the coast and not saltwater fishing very much is is necessary if you decide to hit the salty stuff several times a year.

Laugh if you want. I grab several of the free copies that you can get at tackle stores. One always has a place at the back of my throne ;D which is where my serious reading takes place. New Jersey always highlights or prints in red type changes from the previous regs.

I always catch and release unless I am going for trout or anything saltwater. Not really sure why I read up because I have never seen a fish and game officer or even heard of somebody getting in trouble.

Also a reminder, at least here in IL, there are alot of site specific regs and slots that need to be followed
