She still want's to fish w/ me though. 2024

fishing user avatarGorillaBass reply :

Yo .. so .. last Friday I couldn't wait to get off work to go fish w/ my gf. I got her into her, she loves it now. I go almost everyday after work for ~4hrs. Off at 2pm, on water at ~330 til 7 or til I just get tired, sometimes I just go for 2hrs cause I just want to cast, its not always about catching fish - I just love to be on the water. Catching fish is cool when it happens.

Anyway.. she goes to Cabelas, buys me the 3 crankbaits I asked her to get earlier in the day.

Comes over, pack up, now were on the water.. THIS IS WHERE THINGS GO SOUTH.

We go to our fav spot, LITERALLY ON MY FIRST CAST..

I noticed the bait never made it out and I hear, "ouch, WAIT!", so I panick, realize the crank is stuck to her yoga pants, I'm like "oh crap, can you pull it out?" shes like, "um, its not moving", i say, "omg did it go in?!" and it sure did.. right in the side of her thigh.

I panick a little, cut a small circle around the 1 treble hook thats hooked into her top layer of skin and try to get it out, no luck without hurting her.

so. shes tough. shes a girly girl. i didnt expect her to be that tough, she was actually more ticked off we werent on the water for more than 5 minutes and now have to go to Patient First to get it out.. which took like ~2hrs.. went home and all is fine.

I felt like an Ahole, she didnt care, she understood....

happen to anyone else?

fishing user avatarRHuff reply :

That's about the worst possible thing that could happen, so you better just go ahead and marry her now.

Young hot shot dude pulled up to the ramp in a big fancy Nitro that looked brand spankin' new. His little trophy blonde hopped out beside him and you could tell they were already annoyed at each other (Not good). He was kinda talking to her like she was an idiot which made me feel bad for her. He backed the boat in and told her don't touch anything, just stand there and hold the rope and don't move until he gets back. She's like ok whatever with an eye roll. I noticed the boat didn't look right. The transom started going deeper and deeper. After a few minutes when the dude got back he started yelling at her WHAT DID YOU DO....... She said NOTHING YOU HORSES ASS I HELD THE ROPE. Homeboy for got to put the plug in. She walked right to the truck and got in. He loaded up and off they went. I guess that was the end of their fishing trips. I laughed about that for weeks.

fishing user avatarGorillaBass reply :

omg haha .. dude, I check my plug when I get there and load up my stuff, and again when i get to the water before I dump.. im so paranoid about sinking, i think its cause drowning is a major fear of mine, i have top notch life vests but still, lol

she was in good spirits, my gf is a hottie, the people at patient first feasted their eyes lol ... shes got a round booty and some D's, so.. when she was standing in there in moving around it was funny. nice little scar now where the hook was.. I feel bad but she doesn't care, just a little sore.

You need to learn the hook removal technique with line.  Saved many a day on the water!!  I've seen hooks pulled out of the tops of heads all the way down to feet.  It works!!

dude- my boy said he knows how to do that. w/ braided line? i need to learn more, i just started fishing after 16yrs off this past spring, so im learning the ropes all over again.

fishing user avatarTOXIC reply :

Doesn't matter, any line will work.  Heaver test is better but you can double or triple it up on the lighter tests and it works fine.  Had to learn it being 17 miles from shore on Lake St Clair every year and if you bury a treble, it's a long way to a medical facility.  We rent a cottage on an island.

looks like i need to youtube it.. i have 50lb powerpro braid, i should keep some on the boat for an emergency

For real, knowing the string trick and getting that hook out right then and there with no pain and not having to go to get it removed at a medical facility would have completely impressed her.

A diamond ring and a nice set of rod and reel.?

fishing user avatarGorillaBass reply :

hahaha, you guys are a trip.

ill post a pic of her booty maybe haha

thanks for the video! totally wouldve impressed her but after 4 years and some change, im the one who needs

some impressing haha jk!

maybe i should buy her a Daiwa JDM Reel with a GLoomis reel to make it up to her but keep it on my boat? :P

so, ill post a pic when i get home of the hook, it was in a little further and you could see the point poking the skin just to the side of it, idk if that would work really after watching it a few times.

when the Dr cut it, she had to wiggle it around a little to get it out

fishing user avatarBassWhole! reply :

2 things, first, as soon as the fall bite slows you're going ring shopping, second, and this is for everyone, do not hook other people! There is no excuse. Being aware of the arc your lure makes will not only be much safer, it will make you a better angler. Ideally your fishing partner (much like tennis) will be opposite handed, that will allow more space, and less interference when casting. But even with two righties or lefties, still no excuse. Also why you always want to wear eyewear, no coming back from that one. If you have civilians on the boat, the safest place for him/her is right next to you on your non casting side. Be safe, and a picture of the torn yoga pants would be nice... :)

fishing user avatardavecon reply :

Maybe it hasn't dawned on you yet, but even though you didn't get a bite I think you found a keeper.

Good ones are far and few between. You may not want her to be the one that got away.

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

I've never hooked my wife, but my BIL hooked his wife (my wife's little sister), in the top of her head on the backcast. She didn't take it as well as your GF did.

fishing user avatarOregon Native reply :

Never have hooked my gf/wife of 44 years.  All I remember is every time I took her fishing it seemed to rain.  (she did not like this)  Last time so hard you could hardly see your hand in front of your face.  So......basically she doesn't fish any more.  But...she loves golf like I do fishing....so I golf (try) with her.

Life is good

fishing user avatar68camaro reply :

This past August hooked wive in finger joint fly fishing, after removing it swelled up like a big pea for 30 minutes then went to normal, she was ticked.....I still think not smart to walk behind someone casting.

Years ago hooked daughter when she was 8 in head, she still tells people about this....:)

fishing user avatarGorillaBass reply :

haha, love the stories.

really no excuse, I made a poor judgement and didn't reposition my body as i repositioned the boat..

so, me and her tossed our lines out to clear the spool, hers went out further than mine, so i told her im going to turn the boat so we can drift down shore while she reels in..

but...i never turned my body with the boat, so my next cast was so close to her...clearly.

I f'd up. I own'd it. I was REALLY shocked how well she took it, she was honestly ticked we had to leave lol

she says its sore but healing well.

she'll be getting a ring soon. she loves fishing, were going this weekend lol GOD BE WITH US !!! she's a little nervous rightfully so lol

i'm a 7 handicap golfer actually, but she sucks at golf and golf is MUUUUUUUUUUCH harder than fishing. I went last night and put a really nice bag together, almost 10lbs.. this was the biggest.

excuse my cheese smile, my @55 got a little too excited and needs to calm right down.

fishing user avatarPro Logcatcher reply :

I've only hooked myself once, and that was by doing something stupid. I'm not sure if I've told this story on the forums before, so bear with me. So I had just bought myself my first whopper plopper and started fishing it around the little brush piles in my neighborhood pond. Wham! Huge blowup, and I reeled in my biggest out of that pond, about four pounds. I thought it'd be a great idea to try to unhook this fish, which is still going crazy, with my bare fingers. I get the first treble hook out, and then all of the sudden I'm hooked to this big fish. By the way, it's got one of those bad hooksets where it closes their mouth. After getting the fish off, I walk home with this lure hanging off one of my fingers. Let me tell you, I got some weird looks from passing joggers! I ended up cutting the hook and pulling it out. Since then, I carry pliers and ALWAYS use them on fish caught with treble hooks. Funny thing is, it wasn't even that deep!

fishing user avatarChoporoz reply :

That's an easy one to remove. You're lucky!

I always carry side cutters on me in case of the emergency that they're needed. I've never buried one past the barb on myself, but I did have to cut a frog out of my buddies scalp earlier this summer. We were both glad I had those cutters when it happened.

fishing user avatarcrypt reply :

my friends wife 20 plus years ago, when they were first dating went out and she stuck a Zara Spook in his head.then about 2 months later she was trying to get a worm unstuck from a tree and when it let loose the bullet weight went in his forearm. but wait there's more. she also stuck him in the groin with a Trap on the backcast.   it was a heck of a wedding though.......

fishing user avatarCody_Reagan reply :

I just watched the video in how to remove the hook with fishing line and now I can't wait for my fishing buddy to hook himself so I can try it!!! haha

fishing user avatarAngealy reply :

I have gotten hooks into my hands/other places it shouldn't go but they have never went pass the barb.

Making removing quite easy, However the same cannot be said for my sister.

We were in a fishing contest "We never enter one before so what a rush!" trust me we were not ready but we still managed and give it our all.
The rules were simple: Catch the biggest rainbow trout by 12 pm.

We came in third place, we got a m spinning combo/goodies and even got a 25$ deposit from a local fishing tackle shop we all agreed to use for a net.

TLDR: My one sister ended up getting a single hook with a barb stuck inside her thumb on a bridge by the lake.

My other sister was standing next to her and pulled it out of her and all i hear is my sister with the hook in her thumb scream like someone was hurting her.

I was no where near them and was fishing in another spot on the lake.

We now carry rubbing alcohol, hand sanitizer and a first aid kit in my backpack.

I actually was really hoping the sharp point came through, I could see it poking through the skin, I almost just pushed it thorugh really fast without telling her... haha just to quickly get it over with, but then im like, if any part of this goes wrong....

1.) shes in pain

2.) shes pushing me in the water

3.) she wont know how to drive the boat to leave me so then id be wet getting back in

4.) the lure is still stuck in her leg

5.) ...well you get the point

I can vouch for that!  My son and I were trolling Shad Raps on Lady Evelyn Lake in Ontario for northern pike and walleye.  We got a 7 or 8 lb northern and as I was getting it out of the net it drove one of the treble hooks into the meat of my palm.  I was able to get the fish off the crankbait before it ripped me up too bad.  From then on I learned to remove the lure before removing the fish from the net.

fishing user avatarRHuff reply :

Worst hook I've seen was a guy had a treble hook buried right in the heel of his foot. Right in the meat. He said that pushing it thru little by little was the worst pain he's felt, but the second he cut the barb and backed it out it was like nothing had never happened..... Weird.

yep, basically what my gf said, it was the barb causing the pain, not the hook so much..

makes me wonder.. do fish feel that kind of pain? guess we'll never know, a lot of weird reports out there concerning that topic, fun sport, kinda cruel if you really look at what we do.. but, part of being on top of the food chain!

fishing user avatarBobP reply :

I don’t understand why guys ruin their fishing day and run to an emergency clinic to get a hook removed by someone who knows less about how to do it painlessly and with the least amount of tissue damage than a dedicated fisherman SHOULD.  It’s easy to do.  It’s quick to do.  Do it, forget about it, and continue fishing.

fishing user avatarChance_Taker4 reply :

I fish as a co angler 90% percent of the time. Unfortunately I have been hooked more times than I care to admit. Every time I see the boater fishing the front and not the side I just brace myself for impact. I have not needed to go to the hospital yet and only went past the barb on two different occasions *knock on wood*.

I am also a 7 handicap in golf and refuse to teach my wife to play. I don't have the stress level for that.

You don't understand because you prob know how to pull it out.

Dr's do know how, she's done many times before actually. But out of hands not a thigh.

I think I forgot how to do it as soon as I was born, didn't have YouTube in the 80's to learn it again, shucks!

I got a dual athletic scholarship to college in Golf and Tennis. I would much rather teach my wife tennis than golf.

fishing user avatarSword of the Lord reply :

I had a Rat-L-Trap get stuck in the weeds Tuesday evening. I was fishing a shoreline and the wind took it too far in on the cast. I gave it a good yank and it flew back at me, 100mph it seemed like. It hit me right in the face, below my eye and the treble buried into my cheek. It wasn't the almost losing an eye that freaked me out. It wasn't the hook. I was like, if this g-d hook just scarred up my beard I'm gonna be so po'd. It didn't. It was right above it. I was so mad at the thought that I just ripped it out. And that's my irrelevant story.

I went Fri, Sat and Sun, kind of funny how much more I pay attention to where all my tackle is on my boat.

HOWEVER, where I sit in the front I keep alot of my baits on the ground...yes, where my feet are, and im barefoot 99% of the time, given there just to the right where my trolling motor is, I know it's a matter of time til I forget or don't see a crankait or treble hook and step on it -___-   ....it's actually a bad habit of mine..

Do you guys do that? say you change a lure or something and just cut it off and leave it on a small section of the boat during the trip then like put them away when you get home? ... I'm fn lazy and just want to switch lures ASAP so I just cut it, throw it the side, then tie and throw again, do a tie down nd organize when i get home

Dude, you need to get you some boat shoes. A pair of crocs, whatever. I wear slippers around the house for the same reason only there's no hooks on Legos, but man the only things I can think of that would suck worse than stepping on a lego in your bare feet are fish hooks and land mines.

I literally can't agree more. I'm crazy for doing that, esp since I run around my boat like a psycho, sometimes I get a little too courageous as I run to the back and the front of the boat, its a 15' jon with platforms front and back.
