I just felt a bump while my lure was falling - was that a bite or a stick?
please respond ASAP I don't want to miss a fish!!!
Set the hook.
probably a turtle
Hook sets are free
Well 4 hours later I finally decided to set the hook but there was no fish there... Next time I'll set the hook faster
When in doubt drop the rod, reel the slack, & set the hook!

My dad and I like to say "when in doubt, check it out"
It was a cormorant. I can't tell you how many times I thought I was getting bit and it was a cormorant. Very frustrating.

I feel you man, one time I waited 10 hours to set the hook. Turns out, by that time the bass had already eaten and pooped out my lure and when I went to set the hook my braided line sawed the fish clean in half.

It's that d**n Loch Ness
Listen..All kidding aside, does it matter what caused the "tick" at that point ?
It's under the water, you can't see your hook, you can't see where you're hook is, all you know is that you felt something that you can't explain during one of the most advantageous times to catch a bass...On the fall! So turn it around and ask yourself..All things considered how in the heck would anyone know if it was a stick??
Stop thinking about what is was, set the hook and find out.
Mike
Pretty much what Mike L said.
None of us are going to know, and neither are you, unless you attempt a hook set and theres a fish on the other end. or you snag and possibly reel in a stick. Why would you even stop fishing to come here and ask such a question is what im wondering? last thing i want to do while fishing is go online. i go fishing to get away from computers and tvs and phones and all that stuff. well i do take my phone, but with no intentions of having to use it, especially to browse the web.

No no had to be a stick. Straight piece of stick. He only felt one bump.
I agree with Catt:
"When in doubt drop the rod, reel the slack, & set the hook!"

Water must be getting harder! Don't bother coming to San Diego, fish are in a funk! Go to FLA.
It was probably the state record. Should a swung bro
Dont set the hook very hard , just a little tug in case its not a fish. If it is a fish , oh well , better luck next time .
