This might get moved to another Forum, but I was just curious about what some of you guys would fish for if you could have a free trip anywhere in the world?
I put it in this forum cause I am sure that some of you will have bass in your top 2 or 3.
I would like to go down on the Amazon River and fish for Peacock Bass. I think that would be a great trip. Have you seen those guys hands who do this for a day or two? From what I have seen it can just tear your hands all to heck? Saw pictures of this one guy whose hands were just solid blisters. I love watching those Peacocks slam top water baits.
If I was to have a couple of contingency trips planned I think I would like to go to Guinea-Bissau, Africa and fish for the biggest Tarpon in the world. New world record just came from there...260lbs. 150' s-200 are common and those suckers fight like crazy. That would be fun.
Next would have to be in Alaska on the Kenai River during the summer run of King Salmon and Halibut. During that time those waters are loaded with trophy Halibut, Lingcod, Rockfish, huge Trout and the biggest Salmon. This trip will likely happen next summer...although it won't be free. Want to do this one with my father-in-law and my dad, been planning it for a few years now. We are planning on going next June.
If I had to come up with a fourth choice...just to stay loyal to my Largemotuh Bass...I think maybe one of the big bass lakes in Mexico would be fun to spend some time on...say a week or so.
What would some of you guys do if you had the opportunity?
I would like to make a trip to the Amazon basin not to catch peacocks, I wanna catch this:
Lip me !!!
Ahhh...the nasty looking Payara, I think some call them sabre-tooth payara. Are they a strong, hard fighting fish? You defineately need a Boga-Grip.
one of the bass lakes in mexico, or cuba. they say the world record has been broken atleast 10 times in cuba. the fish were caught in nets or something that didn't qualify them. anyone else read about this? i think in a 5 day trip you're almost guarenteed a bass in the teens.

thats a link to an article in Forbes magazine about the cuba bass fishing. great suggestion though. that one never entered my mind. cuba sounds like someplace I would like to visit.
I would also like to go to Cuba to fish for largemouths. However, it would be a hard decision to choice between Cuba or South American peacock bass.
All of the above. I will fish for nearly anything :-D
I have even went out and set up especialy to catch gar. So nothing is off limits to me!
So far all of you have covered my "dream trips"- esp. South America
1st Choice - Amazon River and fish for Peacock Bass
2nd Choice - Somewhere to catch a Blue Marlin
3rd - Lake Fork in Texas for Largemouth (which I did this last March and it lived up to the hype)
I would like to do one of those 'retired guy tours'.
I would like to leave after New Year's hauling the boat to Florida for a about six weeks and hit all of the trophy waters four four or five days. Hit the pre-spawn waters of Georgia/Alabama for the pre-spawn (Guntersville, Eufala, Seminole Weiss, West Point), hit the big three in Texas for a couple of weeks (Lake Fork, Toledo Bend, Sam Rayburn) during March, and hit the Carolina/Tennessee/Kentucky waters again during the pre-spawn (Santee, Pickwick, Watts Bar, Dale Hollow, Kentucky-Barkley). Of course, the portfolio better do well the next 20 years, but I am hoping this can happen.
I must admit, I am itching to hit Mexcio or Cuba myself for the trip of a lifetime. If you guys have a free ticket for your dream trip to thosedestinations, let me know.
ball_coach
That sounds to me like one of the better planned trips I have seen. Hit all the great southern spots at or around their peak times. Awesome trip.
I would ask if I could be your shadow while your on this trip but you are probably a buckeye...but likely we would just argue about OU and OSU...Woody Hayes and Barry Switzer the whole time. Just kiddin' Later.
Nevermind........My first choice is ball_coach's trip. That would be a blast.
*LOL*
Well, technically I wear another logo here in the 'Buckeye State', but am actually as much a Kentucky Wildcat as anything. Card-carrying hillbilly actually. I am o.k. with the Sooners, liked Switzer, like the Stoops family.
I can't remember the place I heard about a similar trip, believe I talked to the guy who did it, or read it somewhere. Either way, the thought is not all original, but it now is claimed as my own dream.
If you want to join and at least pick up half of the tab, let me know, you are in on the plan. One necessity of the trip is my wife will not be allowed to join in on this one. Guess it wouldn't certify as a dream fishing trip then, eh?
1. lake Eufala, alabama lm bass
2. Lake Fork, texas lm bass
3. dale hollow, tenessee sm bass
boobe prize: amazon river peacock bass
I like all your dream trips...but
I would like to fish Southern California with one of the locals fishing for just one bass. I would like to be able to spend at least a week fishing each of the "potentials", slow and methodically.
One fish, just one fish.
Actually, I fish from September until April for one fish on the Tennessee River. It's not the same fish, but it's a bass, a smallmouth bass.
i would definitely have to say S.America for the Peacocks. . .i was fortunate as a younger angler to go fishing for them in Kauai, in a stocked lake. . .nothing huge, but plenty of nice ones. . . then i would also have to agree about hitting up Mexico or Cuba to catch some Lunkers. . . all while getting a solid tan!
I have chased fish on the saltwater flats NEAR Cuba
The people are very nice. You should see the jalopies they are still driving. Awesome.
Fish on!
I would love to do the Alaska experience. And fish some of the western lakes like Rooservelt. Florida would have some neat sceanery. I would like to also do a river float trip. I don't really know where. The amazon sounds great anytime but summer, and it's hot and humid enough right now for me, here. Raul was describeing some places in Mexico I would really like to see. We go, (I haven't been makeing the trip the last few years) to Kentucky and Alabama fairly regularly but I would like to plan it were I could also fish do some hunting.
1. s. america for peacoks
2. Texas for bass
3. Mexico for big blue marlin or tuna
1.Rio ***** jn Amazon Basin for Peacock bass 2.Mexico bass fishing 3.Southern California bass fishing
1) Peacock bass fishing in the Amazon, 2) Bass fishing in Mexico, 3) Marlin/ tuna fishing in Cabo San Lucas.
For those of you who want to fish the Kenai, check out info@westcoastfishin.ca, it's fishing the Skeena River in norther British Columbia, all five species of salmon and huge steelhead. Great fishing, weather, and hosts.
Funny though, we all are pretty much in agreement about the peacock bass fishing ;D, now that's serious top water.
In the years around 79, 80 I worked for and was friends with a guy that had a small hotel, and charter service in Balize. He invited me down there several times for his birthday. That was when it was still a British Colony and I guess he was good friends with some of the officers there at that time. One of which also had a birthday at the same time. Not only was it supposed to be great fishing, and diveing but a major week long party to boot and the only expense was air fare and personal liquor. Something always seemed to come up and I didn't go. But would try to the next year. Finally his health worsend and the goverment changed. So needless to say I wouldn't make that mistake again.
I'd love to go to a few places:
Canada, preferrably Knee Lake for eyes and pike
South America, for peacock bass
Lake El Salto, and take a guess what I'd fish for
I also would like to do something I've never done, and may never do until I grow up. That is deep sea or just fishing flats in the ocean. I'd love to catch anything-tarpon, snook, red, shark, just any saltwater fish.
canada, to look for monster pike and walleye.
For me it wouldn't be the where or the what, but the who. My dream trip would be day on the lake, any lake, with one of the BASS Pro's: Rick Clunn, Denny Brauer, Gerald Swindle...
I have the Florida fishing everyday...I think I want to go chase that 10lb SM with RW
CPR ;D
This is a dream trip, the brown fish needs to be at least 11 lbs (IFGA recognizes 10 lb 14 oz) or 12+ to be the Undisputed World Record (State of Tennessee recognizes 11lbs 15 oz as the state record). Both smallmouth were caught at Dale Hollow, but I'm hoping the new World Record will be caught on the Tennessee River, just below Pickwick Dam ;D.
Roadwarior, I chase that d**n fish most of the times I go out. I know your sickness. I lost a very big fish this year that I never saw. It makes me sick to think of how big it was. That fish lives here, and there are more than one of them. sombody will catch it. my dream trip is right here in So Cal. Second chioce would be Mexico where the big fish are a little easyer to catch and third would be catching some peacocks
my dream fishing trip would be going to northen wis. with a aluminum boat with a 60 or 75 horse motor. and i would be fishing for big muskie and pike with a good friend. and spend all weekend on the water. wait that dream can come true if i had a boat iam only 45 min form good muskie lakes. i live in wasau wi
I remember seeing something a long time ago about guides that fly you into these rivers in South America to fish for giant King Salmon. Would love to fish off the side of one fo those planes.
