Methods To Fight Bait Monkey! 2024

fishing user avatarWdyCrankbait reply :

I am looking for tips on how not to give into bait monkey. There is a Diawa Trillionare at a local fishing store that is "speaking," to me. I got a buddy that works there and fequently go in to talk and get a couple of things. Problem is this Diawa seems like a great reel, but I have a couple Curados and a Premier so, it is not on the caliber of my other reels, but it seems sooooo nice!!

How do you resist bait monkey?

AJ, your response will be discounted.....:)

fishing user avatarBrandon K. reply :

If a Diawa speaks you better listen. Don't fight it.

fishing user avatarWdyCrankbait reply :

yeah, I never owned a Diawa, but they have been around for a long time so I know there quality products.

fishing user avatarslonezp reply :

It's probably speaking japanese. I dont understand japanese so it wouldn't be a problem.

fishing user avatars13john reply :

just get another premier, or 2 curados or a premier and a curado..... zillions are nice too

One cannot hope to stop the bait monkey, one can only hope to contain him...

fishing user avatarBluebasser86 reply :

Trying to fight the bait monkey is like trying to go on a starvation diet. Sure you might hold him off for a little while, but you'll give in and when you do it will feel so good you'll spend way more than you would have in the first place.

fishing user avatarFishes in trees reply :

You need to put things into perspective. No matter what your income level is, it is still a finite amount. All you need to to is to boost spending in other areas of your life, for instance: High calorie foods, beer & liquor, women, trinkets for women, recreational chemicals, if worse comes to worse, take up golfing. At some point along this spending arc, the bait monkey will starve.

fishing user avatarjoshholmes reply :

go on basspro.com and read all the bad reviews on something that you really want. trust me it works ( most of the time)

fishing user avatarclipper reply :

Put all your credit cards in your safe deposit box or better yet cut them up, give your check book to your wife  for safe keeping, and have her give you enough cash each morning to get you through the day. Or, you could just quit going into the tackle shop.

You could also start saving for the reel and buy it when you get enough to pay cash :) .

fishing user avatarWdyCrankbait reply :

Well, I had two unexpected expenses just hit me so no Diawa for me. Had to replace the windshield on my Exploder and shot updateds for my dog. So, maybe next month I will be the owner of a nice new black Diawa Trillionare.

So true. I went all winter salvating over new tackle. I did great, but I ended up falling off the bait monkey wagon just before ice out. :P

Oh well I tried.

fishing user avatarkms399 reply :

I make it a point to pick up just one or two lures every week that keeps me from buying large amounts at a time plus my wife cant complain. B)

Ha so true. That's worked for me a dozen times.

fishing user avatarWdyCrankbait reply :

Well, I went to my local tackle store today with every intention of only getting 3 bags of Paca Craws. Three bags, a spool of fluro, line conditioner later I walked out...............$47 spent.. oh-well.

fishing user avatarSirSnookalot reply :

If you need it or want it, buy it, providing it's within one's budget, what other justification is needed?

fishing user avatarCaptin Obvious reply :

I am currently in the process of setting up a rehab for those suffering from the tackle addiction known as "The Bait Monkey".

The first step is handing all your tackle over to me for "safe keeping". Once this happens I'm sure that I will be able to fight the bait monkey because I will be using your takcle...

Hey didn't say it work for you :D

That is hysterical. I just lol'd when I read that. I needed a good laugh today.

fishing user avatarRaul reply :

Try the empty pocket/dirt poor method, it scares him right away.

fishing user avatargotarheelz14 reply :

What I do is make lists. I make lists of the stuff that I want/need. I also make it a point to budget each item out---Where is the money going to come from to buy this thing? What am I not going to be able to buy if I buy this?

The stuff I need gets bought before the stuff I just "want". It is good to also have a running total of how much $ it is going to take to buy the items in your wish list. This usually puts things into perspective. You'll look down at the red line and go "It's going to cost me $x,xxx dollars to get all this stuff?!?!"

Eventually, you will see that you either stop putting as many things on the list...that's what happened to me anyway

fishing user avatarjignfule reply :

RECESSION will scare the crap out of him.

fishing user avatarhatrix reply :

I have a 3 step program that will cure almost any one.

Step 1: Fish 7 days a week 365 days a year (sounds good right)

Step 2: Get fired from you job (easy since all you do is fish every day)

Step 3: Get your car repoed and your house foreclosed on (easy since you have no job now)

Once you follow these 3 easy steps you should be cured. If you have completed all 3 steps and are still making outrageous lists of stuff you NEED from you local tackle store you might be beyond saving.

Its has done me already glad i bought my stockpile of clearance lures, line over the course of 12-15 yrs im good for a few generations

fishing user avatardulouz reply :

As for lures, I limit myself to my tackle box. I have 6 3700 boxes. I told myself I wasn't getting more. My rod rack holds 8 rods. I am working on upgrading those 8, the old ones will go into hiding... :)
