I was reading this article and it is very interesting.

The 4th largest bass and the 9th largest is the same fish.

My PB best is a 4.5 smallmouth and i could only dream of a 8 in Kansas

fishing user avatarFishie reply :

Just got a huge bass today that had to be at least 8 and a half. Cal is so crowded. I don't know about living there man. I would rather live in Florida. But I live in MO

fishing user avatarHawgin reply :

I decided I wanted at least visit and fish in Cali a few weeks ago when watching Basscenter and seeing those guys pulling hawgs out of Lake Diamond on large swim baits.

fishing user avatarRattlinrogue reply :

Give me central Florida as a dream bassin' home.My son lived in Celebration,Fl(Disney) and the whole area is fantastic(especially the bassin').

fishing user avatarrocknfish9001 reply :

I wanted to go somewhere warm with lots of fish on spring break, and figured it was too far to go to cali, although that is my dream land. I think i might end up in Georgia or S. Carolina. Hows that sound?

fishing user avatarHookhead reply :

I live in northern Cal. near Sacramento and right now I wished I lived somewhere else! It has rained for 2 weeks straight and the forecast shows more rain thru Saturday. :P This has been hell for me. I've been trying to get on the water for what seems like forever. Around here I usually fish Folsom Lake, Camp Far West and Lake Oroville. If I could live anywhere at the moment I'd move to Georgia, specifically, the same Dock that Senko77 nailed that fat 14.7! ;)

fishing user avatarmudcatwilly reply :

I live in Northern CA (Bay Area) and we have some world class bass destinations.  Clearlake and the Delta in the north and Castaic in the south, not to mention scores of other lakes where the fishing is excellent, Folsom, Shasta, Oroville are among them.

fishing user avatarRaul reply :

Oh well, we 've got El Salto, Baccarac, Cajón de Peñas, Aguamilpa, Comederos, Emilio Caballero, La República Española, Vicente Guerrero, just to name a few.  ;)

fishing user avatarMatt Fly reply :

Be thankful for the rain.  I lived in San Dog for 14 yrs and 7 of that was during the drought.

fishing user avatarGobbleDog reply :

I'm going back to Cali, Cali, Cali.

:) LL Cool J

fishing user avatarCaptain Cali reply :

85 outside on Christmas eve. How great is that?? I live 15 minutes from downtown L.A. and 30 minutes from Castaic. It has it's good and bad. Bad being all the people, traffic, and smog. The good being the weather and we have a little of everything close by. You can be in the snow and in less than 2 hours be on a beach enjoying the sun. The best part is being able to fish all year long. Obviously there are other places you can fish year round, but not very many places hold a potential world record bass in so many lakes and can be fished all year.

If we could just move Castaic to Hawaii, then I'd be happy.

fishing user avatarguest reply :

Ya, like surfs up dude  ;D

fishing user avatarhipster_dufus reply :

lived in ca for 9 yrs, I would never go back

fishing user avatarNewScreenNameAdvised reply :

I live in So. Cal.  I moved here from AZ 2.5 years ago and can't wait for the day I can move back.  It's crowded (1 in 8 American's live in CA and it probably has the largest population of illegal residents on top of that), it's expensive (I live inland from the ocean where it is "cheap" and the average home price is nearly $400K) and it's just dirty.

Diamond Valley Lake is my home lake.  One thing they failed to mention on that Bass Center clip is that they were fishing behind the bouy line, the forbidden area by the pumping tower.  My average size bass out of that lake is 3.5 pounds which is a real nice change of pace to what I am used to in AZ.  I don't catch a lot of numbers like I used to in AZ, though.  Most people don't know this, but 23 of the largest 25 LMB ever caught were out of CA.  Reason being...ideal weather year round and the fact that they stock these lakes with fish food in winter, TROUT!  If I move back to AZ, it will be bitter-sweet though.  The fishing here is pretty darn good...

fishing user avatarpaparock reply :

My oldest stepson lives in Los Angeles,California and I have spent some time there but you could not pay me to live there. Don't get me wrong California can be a nice place to visit and fish but.......... ! My nephew lived in San Diego for several years but moved back to Houston, Texas as he had all he could take (his words) . Now when the wife and I visited Baja, California it was awesome. If only it had been part of the California Purchase. Even the natives would be better off as the poverty is really bad. The children in such conditions really got me. Yes I may have been a sucker but I could not help but give them some money. Who knows how it was spent but I did what my heart said I had to. The fishing was more than mere words could convey. Where can you catch Dorado fishing off a beach while watching sailfish free jump just offshore. The water was so clear you could see the point come off an island and see it taper off to deeper water than you could ever believe. In spots the 100 fathom (1 fathom = 6 feet) curve was only 1/2 mile offshore and at one mile offshore you could be in 3000 feet of water . Do you think California, USA could annex Baja, California? If so then sign me up for a hacienda on the East Cape on the Sea of Cortez (the largest fish trap in North America). Fifty plus pound Roosterfish from the surf while in just a little more water they grow over 100 pounds. The worlds record towed the fisherman, panga (boat), and the guide for over 30 minutes before tiring. Now that is FUN!

fishing user avatarCaptain Cali reply :

WOW!! This sure turned into a California bash-fest!!

I guess when you are born and raised into something or in this case somewhere, it's just a part of you. Love the stereotypes though!!  ::)

I just hope more people think like you guys and get out of here or don't come at all.

fishing user avatarLow_Budget_Hooker reply :

I lived in Cali (Tahoe) for 3 yrs.

There are good and bad everywhere, the world is what YOU make it.

LBH, I'm out skiing in Squaw Valley in February...Should I bring a rod with me too?

fishing user avatarabelfisher reply :

I live in Northern Cal. as well..  I moved from Indiana back in '97.  My family and I love it out here.  No snow!  The weather for 9+  months out of the year is great.  There are thingns about Indiana that I love and miss.  There are thigs about Cal. that I love.  I prefer California when all is said and done.....But there is no Place like home.

Like LBh said, it's what you make it.

And oh by the way.  For those of you who have never been to California, let me let you in on a secret.  There is a world of difference bewtween Northern Cal and Southern Cal.   Might as well be 2 different states.  Northern Cal., being the better of the two  .......... ;D ;D

I can't argue with that. Yosemite and Tahoe...enough said.

fishing user avatarJ._Bricker reply :

I'm a native Californian and proud of it.  There are 38 million residents who seem to agree with me, and I'm glad they aren't all fishing at the same time.

Panamoka-  In February, the only fishing on Tahoe is for Lake Trout (Mackinaw) from charter boats.  In summer, I've seen photos of 6 lb. largemouth bass from the Tahoe Keys areas.  Besides, the skiing at Heavenly, Squaw, Alpine, Northstar will be too good to miss, and it won't be the same as Vermont.

As for stereotypes, every place in this great land has a stereotype of that region which isn't indicative of residents who live there.

Like LBH said, it's what YOU make it, so who really cares?

One last thought, maybe the folks overseas will be able to once again enjoy a good fish pulling their string in the new year.  JB

Cool!!  My son is going to college this spring in Santa Rosa (Where this fish was caught)  Guess where he and I will be doing some fishing on some Saturday mornings.

fishing user avatarbixbybasspro reply :

Haha, not me, i love oklahoma too much. It's too close to Lake Fork, even though there are countless monsters in Cali..

fishing user avatarJ._Bricker reply :

Abelfisher- the article on the hawg that woman caught, it wasn't on a jerkbait. It orginally was reported on a 7" Storm swimbait, you guessed it, rainbow trout pattern. Good luck to you and your son, I'm sure that fish is a little bit heavier now, and with it college tuition will not be a worry.

fishing user avatarPreston reply :

I would love to live on a place like Clear Lake but i dont think id trade Tennessee for the world. Mainly becuase you dont have the chance to catch the world record smallmouth. Some think im crazy but id rather hold the smallmouth record.

fishing user avatarCaptain Cali reply :

When the next WR is caught here we'll see how many of these same people bashing cali will start flocking here in order for a piece of the action. Oh yeah, I forgot...people already flock here for our great bass fishing among other things. So when the next 22-5+ is caught, have your warm weather gear ready because all of you will be flocking here.
