Are bass viviparous? 2024

fishing user avatarOther. reply :

Yea I have been bass fishing for a long time but I do not know the question to this and its bugging me. Do female bass give birth or are they egg layers?

fishing user avatarLong Mike reply :

If you really want a straight answer, no they are not.  They lay eggs.

fishing user avatarWesley reply :

Bass spawn when the water temps reach 55-60 degrees.  The male move into the shallows and makes a bed and a female will come up and lay eggs which the male then fertilizes.

fishing user avatarBassChaser57 reply :

You should know by now that there are others that will poke fun no matter the question. This is why I am mostly a stealthy BR member.

The male will remain on the nest protecting the eggs and fry for a time. After a certain amount of time ( maybe about 7-10 days) the male bass will turn on the fry eating many of them and scattering the rest of them.

Some of us are obviously not smarter than a 5th grader as some of us forgot the definition of viviparous. 8-)

To save yall the trouble of looking it up here is the Definition :P

A viviparous animal is an animal employing vivipary: the embryo develops inside the body of the mother, as opposed to outside in an egg (ovipary). The mother then gives live birth. The less developed form of vivipary is called ovoviviparity, which, for instance, occurs in most vipers. The more developed form of vivipary is called placental viviparity; mammals are the best example, but it has also evolved independently in other animals, such as in scorpions, some sharks, and in velvet worms. Viviparous offspring live independently and require an external food supply from birth. Certain lizards also employ this method such as the genera Tiliqua and Corucia. The placenta is attached directly to the mother in these lizards which is called viviparous matrotrophy

fishing user avatargarry77 reply :

so the answer is bass are ovoviviparous

fishing user avatarWesley reply :

no bass are Oviparous

Oviparous animals are animals that lay eggs, with little or no other embryonic development within the mother. This is the reproductive method of most fish, amphibians and reptiles, all birds, the monotremes, and most insects and arachnids.

fishing user avatarBassackward reply :

wrong again. hehe. Bass are oviparous. Trust me(fisheries science major at Texas A&M). Just for more info

oviparous=lays eggs

ovoviviparous=produce eggs which hatch within the body

viviparous=produce live offspring

Is this going to be on the test?

fishing user avatarSam reply :

No question is dumb.

The answers can be dumb, but if the individual asking the question is sincere and truthful then it is a valid question even though 99.9% of others may know the answer.

I remember in 7th grade when the teacher had us doing math on the basis of a clock using 60 as our base number. But she failed to tell us that she was using 60 as the base number and a number of us were totally confused when we did the math problems.

One guy finally got the nerve to ask the teacher what was going on and the rest of the class laughed at him.

At recess a bunch of us thanked him as we had no idea what was going on. The "teachers pets" (mostly girls) knew but the rest of us were in a fog.

So a forthright answer to a query is proper.

Now, when I taught in college you had to be careful not to ask "Are there any questions?" without clarifying that the request for questions applied to the topic.

A few times the class would ask off the wall questions in reply to my "Are there any question?" and they were 100% correct in asking.

Yes, it was funny. But it only happened to me a few times.  College kids. They know everything!

fishing user avatargarry77 reply :

Yeah that's what I meant,lol.

No question is dumb.

But, answers can be dumb.

On the otherhand, anyone that can access this forum, MIGHT be able to access the rest of the internet.

This seems like a silly question to me.

This clears up a few things for me now.....I just assumed the stork brought the eggs like he brought my sister.  I see him on the bank all the time, I assumed he was looking for good homes.

My thoughts exactly....how can someone who is so skilled with software that they can create anime,,,and know what viviparous means NOT be able to run a basic search to find this out.

No question is dumb....but many are insincere....My jabbing reply was deleted (nothning new there) because of this belief.

Dude are you seriouse?!?! Why do you think a forum like this was made? To ask questions and answer questions; together creating a community. If asking questions was a bad thing and it is better to look up things bass resource would not be a very large forum.

Like I said before I would rather ask Bass Resource then google. I like you guys better >.>

Avid - you've been here a very long time. You know the rules/regs of the forums as well as the community tone and spirit, yet you continue to push the envelope, often stepping over the line.  I cannot help but think you do this knowingly with a smirk.

To cry about such posts being deleted really baffles me.  You know better, so you'll get no sympathy from me.
