Is it possible to catch big fish in the fall? With what lures? On the bottom or top? Spinnerbaits or Lipless? High Speed Or Low and Slow?
Fall is great for catching bass. The fish are gonna be feeding up for the upcoming cold weather, because once that water temp drops the bass arent going to be willing to chase prey very aggresively. hence, they get fat while they can so they can afford to be lazy during the colder months. spinnerbaits, lipless, squarebill, jigs, they all should work. In my experience here in Texas I have noticed that the fish just get plain aggressive and much less selective in the fall. Most peopel will contend that the bass chase baitfish in the fall so your best bet would be to use something that mimicks a shad or whatever type of forage inhabits your local waters.
Absofreakinlutely! It's spinnerbait time!!!!
Thats my favorite time to fish. Its definitely big fish time. Spinnerbaits, jerkbaits and jigs.
I usually will pitch jigs, but I remember one fall day a couple of years ago where I learned a lesson. I had been catching them pretty good on a jig that fall leading up to that cold and windy November day. I hit my normal honey hole and been pitching for a couple of hours without a bite. I see an older gentleman come into the cove and start fishing the same water I had just combed. I look across and see him catching bass after bass, nice 3-4 lbers. I bet he caught a dozen or more and I'm just watching him with my jaw dropped, lol. We finally got close enough to talk and he said "tie you on a white spinnerbait, throw about a foot off the bank and parallel it back". I immediately started catching some nice fish.
white spinners ,jig, swim baits........
To me fall is like the spawn, bass are moving out of deep water, into feeder creeks, following bait fish, feeding up for winter.
I fish the same creeks, same structure, same feeding flats, with same lures.
The difference is during fall the water is cooling & during spawn the water is warming.
I've read crankbaits can be good in the fall? I'll have to try some spinners this fall. I don't have too much experience with them.
I don't know what all these people are talking about but it's impossible to catch big fish in the fall, they usually stay on land in the fall

You jest...lol, but in the late 1800's in Dr. James
Henshall's "Book of the Black Bass", they actually believed bass came out of the water at night to forage fo food. Dr. Henshall was a medical doctor. Sounds like might have been writing his own prescriptions....lol.

crankbaits work very good in the fall.
Mid to late fall dust off your Rat-L-Traps
Fall is my favorite time for bass fishing. The heat and humidity of summer is gone and the bass are moving up shallow and they're hungry!
The bass in my avatar, a 6lb.+, was caught in early November on a crankbait.
Tom
around here it's square bill & rattletrap time in the fall. my favorite is a white chatterbait with a pearl fluke as a trailer.

I live in the south.
Fall can provide some of the greatest fishing of the year, but it can also be extremely slow.
The best part is always...............................
....................no crowds at the ramp.

i went a couple of years ago...I managed to catch something down here in ga it stays warm
I love fishing in the fall.I usually go out with two rods in my kayak. During the fall i will have a faster moving lure like a white spinnerbait or white swim jig on one rod and a my favorite jig (5/16 oz black & blue jig with trailer) on the other rod for a slow presentation.
Time for MONSTER smallmouth around here.

Yes I night fish every night pretty much.. I will try top water , spinners, rattle traps for moving baits.. if I'm not getting bit I'll throw a chatter bait or jig and hop it off the bottom SlOW... or 12inch black worm a with small bullet weight.. also tequila sunrise has been producing great
I've been catching some fish on cranks but plastics have been the best for me so far.....spinnerbait didn't do me any good when I threw it.....
It don't really matter what you use for bait , when the fish are hitting they will hit on anything most of the time !
I try to keep fishing simple and relaxed That way any time is a good time to fish, LOL
Falls my favorite time to fish. Water temp starts cooling down, the bass start to get in a chase mood to feed up for the winter and I get to throw my favorite bait....a squarebill crankbait.
