I fish for stripers on the Tennessee River, trout on the White River.
Catfish at night.
I fish for stripers in the bay at Kennebunkport, bluegill fishing with my 5 wt flyrod and trick or treat fish with spinners.
Last summer I had just got into fishing and quickly gave up on bass fishing and started fishing for bream. I didn't know then what I know now. On my lake summertime bream fishing is really good, but I get so bored with it. I still fish for bass, just not as many hours put into it or I split my hours between early morning and late evening. I got one yesterday minutes before a severe storm hit.
Meat fish for walleye & perch.

Plus a few salmon and trout thrown in for the smoker.
I never give up on bass, but I do switch to almost exclusively night fishing for any serious outing.
White bass and catfish. There are different lakes I go to for each. Mainly I target big blue catfish at a nuclear plant cooling lake near me, so needless to say it can get downright unpleasant out there in the heat of the summer.

Stripers and wipers most likely at the same lake is what i chase.
Nothing quite like sitting under the stars on the river on a humid night with a campfire going listening to the coyotes and waiting for a big blue or flathead to make a bait clicker scream uncle
The only time in the year when I don't target bass is when I cast out and the lure skids across the ice - then I take a break from bass fishing.
Although, I admit that in summer, when the bite from the bank slows down, that I usually have an ultralight rod in the car to catch whatever will bite...
snakeheads and salt water fishies(if I get invited on a boat)
Nope... I never stop.
I fish for bass throughout the summer...the only other fish to go for in my neck of the woods are panfish and that does not excite me. Part of the fun is learning to fish and catch them in the different phases of the season. It is quite the challenge, but that keeps it exciting for me.
I keep on fishing for Bass but I pretty much fish at night like some of the othe posters have mentioned.
the lakes around here are miserable on summer weekend daylight hours between the heat and the traffic and drunks.
i go during daylight some during the week. no way around it the LM bite is just slow this time of year.
current seems to over come that so i fish alot below dams and in creeks.
mainly i night fish around lights and catch all kinds of fish. i also put out jugs for catfish.
i go wade fish a freezing cold stocked trout stream. youll get goose bumps in 100deg heat.
People take breaks?
The only thing I slow down on is the amount of summer tournaments I fish. I use to do a LOT of saltwater fishing in the summer until I sold the boat. I'm tempted to take the bass boat for some snapper. I hear the big Mangorves (4-6 pounds) are moving in to the shallow reefs.
Back in the old days, no. I'd be bass fishing in the dead of Summer, and in the middle of Winter, and every once in a while, I'd stick a big one in some of those "off times" too.
But after quite a few years of that, and as I get older, I feel like I don't have as much time left to burn like that.
Nowadays, I fish at the best times, at the best places, which my years of experience have shown me. Also, I have really gotten back to my roots, as a multi-species angler. I honestly don't care very much what the species is I'm targeting. I do still always try for the big ones though. A trophy sportfish, is a trophy sportfish regardless of the species.
Then again, as I have gotten my health back in the last few years, it had better be a good bite for something, or else I can / will go for a few months with no fishing at all ! Don't get me wrong, I'd rather not. But if I don't know of a hot bite for something, I'd rather be mountain biking, hill climbing, weight lifting, photography, etc.
With the more years that go by, the more use I try to get out of my days.......
Peace,
Fish
At my tender age of only 66 I still fish every day. My bass fishing time is greatly reduced from June until Mid November. I'll get out once in awhile just to do something in the afternoon around my home, it isn't the heat that bothers me, it's the bugs and lack of quality fish.
My challenge in fishing is in the winter, the saltwater bite really tapers off then, I still do it everyday year round. That's the time of year I appreciate bass fishing, I don't get skunked.
No, I fish for bass from the time the mother nature takes the cover off the lake in March or April, till she puts it back on in December. Then I walk on it, and fish for bluegills till next spring.
No. Bass all year.
I think I am gonna start going for stripers now that I can't seem to catch a LMB for the life of me with all this heat
I usually go after bass no matter what time of year it is.
I switch bass species. March - may largemouth at the lake. June-September smallmouth in the river october-November back to largemouth.
nope fish just as much maybe more
trolling for chinook salmon and steelhead in 150-400 fow. cant believe how lucky i am to live here.
I fish for my wallet when I go to Lowes every other day buying crap for my bathroom remodeling project. Thanks Honey!
I will fish for bass early in the morning from (5am) until 8-9am, then either go grocery shopping with wife and kids. Or my wife will give me a bio-weekly to do list...
Just because it's hot, doesn't mean you gotta stop bass fishin! I'm still having tons of luck! But I do enjoy catchin Cats and Crappie out on Sinclair, GA.
i never stop i might not catch as many but i usually do catch a few

X2^ I throw something to target bass every time I go out, but if they're not cooperating, catfish, wipers, white bass and bluegill get my attention.

I always carry bass gear but mostly slow down and downsize for other species including bass. With the severe drought and fewer weeds in the northeast, summer patterns have changed drastically and locating deeper structure holding bass is becoming harder. Rather get 40 fish and 100 bites than few bites and zippo bass. Love those 12" crappie on light gear!

I will fish for bass in the summer and/or anything else. Spent this past Wednesday-Sunday at Smith Mountain Lake. I spent more time fishing for cats than bass. Was skunked out on the boat for bass the one time i talked my uncle into taking it out to fish, I swear last trip before this one he had a fit when i pulled a striper in and threw it on the carpet lol. Had no success from the dock either. Of course normally all summer i see bass swimming around the dock there, nada this trip, water temps were in like the mid-80s. i assume because of the recent heat wave in the area that most bass had moved to deep water. At most i had a few not even 12 inch bass follow my baits in. So i focused most of my efforts on night fishing for cats and whatever else wanted to bite. Go figure this is when i caught a few bass over the course of the weekend on nightcrawlers on a drop shot. I believe that confirmed to me that the fish were deeper because the bass were much lighter in color than im used to from this lake. I ended up catching a bunch of nice 3-4lb channel cats in the 18-21 inch range on night crawlers, chicken livers, and shrimp. Night fishing ruled the weekend, fishing on the dock till 2:30-3am, there may have been bass out early in the morning, but i was asleep
The only time I stop bass fishing in the summer and fish for something else is when I am reaching down in the bottom of an ice chest getting the coldest budweiser I can find.
