Best Salesman 2024

fishing user avatarIma Bass Ninja reply :

Most professional anglers only get to do what they do because of there sponsors. So being good salesman of there sponsoring companies is a necessity. Who do you think does the best job of selling there companies product?

I would have to give my initial vote to Ish Monroe. Watching his videos from Icast (i think) made me want to purchase what he was selling. His enthusiasm and knowledge of his products made me think that it was something i just had to have.

So who's your pick for best salesman in professional bass fishing?

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

Aaron Martens, simply because he's the worst salesman. I believe he believes in the companies that sponsor him.

fishing user avatarBrianinMD reply :

KVD, he doesn't have to say a word just put his initials on something and it sells....

fishing user avatarJIGFISHERMAN. reply :

it's really hard to argue with KVD. That guy has SELLING POWER.

fishing user avatarbigbassctchr101 reply :

I'll agree with Ish Monroe. That guy wouldn't be half as far as he is now without the way he can promote his sponsors. He shows that you don't have to always finish high to be pro fisherman. lol

Shaw Grigsby because he loves and believes his sponsors AND he finishes well enough to usually be a name in the money. He has a great mix of personality, loyalty, heart, and talent.

KVD has selling down because of performance. I honestly don't think i've ever heard him sound absolutely sincere when talking about how much he believes in a product. The man obviously does, or you wouldn't see him using out of the box strike king lures for the past couple classics and other elite tours. But he just doesn't act out the part to make it sound like he's truly in love with it.lol

Ish is actually pretty dang good.

He may not be skeet, martens, van dam, Ike and a few others, but he's pretty good.

He's ok. He does have a lot of money finishes. He's fished 164 tourns and above are his finishes from BASS. I couldn't do it. Many many others couldn't. But when putting him in a category of salesman/fisherman. I personally think he's the best salesman with most non consistent fishing.

This is what i was thinking. Yes KVD has a lot of selling POWER based on his accomplishments. But imagine if you were new to fishing, didn't know one pro from the other and got put in a room to buy gear from the pro's. KVD would be on the bottom of the list IMO.

fishing user avatarJIGFISHERMAN. reply :

I've learned to re-evaluate my thinking on some of these guys. They guys that are consistently at the bottom are still VERY good.

After fishing against a guy named Brian Hensely from here in MI, that most of you would have no clue who he is, and get creamed by him.......

He and his wife were catching good fish out of lakes that everyone agrees is full of dinks.

He fishes BFL, and Everstart series events.

Plus he can sell the fish a bait also.

fishing user avatarRandall reply :

I personally only believe very few of them trying to sell me on something or even giving fishing advice. KVD and Arron Martens are two of the few I even listen to. Neither of them seem to exaggerate claims from my experience and will even mention other brands/baits for specific situations when the sponsored brands/baits may not be the best and give you the reason for using the other bait.

Freaking money minnows......I bought like 3 packs and never caught a thing with them

fishing user avatarSam reply :

It seems that every professional bass fisherman has an agenda for selling their sponsors' products which is fine with me.

When Zona tells us that he is using a $200 Chronarch Series E and a $400 G. Loomis GLX 893 in his jig fishing video I understand that he is pushing those two products but they are so costly that other options are available to produce the same results at a lower cost.

You guys who said KVD is the best are correct. Just put his picture on an item and it will sell.

And when Ike crosses the stage at a tournament he sounds like a NASCAR driver who is plugging all of his products. Ike is my overall favorite but now I don't listen to his product endorsements as much as I used to as I know he will be hawking other products as the years go by.

fishing user avatarshootermcbob reply :

Agree with Sam.

Many of these top fishermen follow the dollars....as just one example...Shaw Grigsby was touting Suffix line as the best, mostest, blah, blah, blah one year and singing the praises of stren the next. Not judging Shaw whom I like and respect very much, but it is a part of the business.

The best thing about KVD is that he seems to sign up with a company, and then he and the company work together to bring new and improved products to the market year after year, rather than following the dollars as many others do ( or have to do).

For most of these guys, they probably don't have the option, they must follow the dollars to obtain sponsorships to be able to do what they dream about doing. I would most likely do the same.

I just think it gives KVD added clout when he can say "I have been fishing with Quantum reels for 21 years and this is the best reel we have made yet".

fishing user avatarjojo&laken reply :

Well KVD could sell Bark to a tree because he could catch fish with it too but recently i had the chance to fish a 3 day tournament with Jason christie as my partner and from now on i will have those baits with me. It is one thing for them to try and get you to buy something in a store but it is another for them to show you what it will do

fishing user avatarflippin and pitchin reply :

There is a huge difference between the value of someone's endorsement and their ability to pitch a product and convince you of the advantages of that product and or the service it provides and separate you from your cash.

fishing user avatarfxdwgkd reply :

Pro fisherman may promote their sponsors, but none of them hold a candle to a celebrity hunter! They can not say a single sentence without promoting a sponsor. Pretty annoying actually.

That being said I would have to say that KVD has little to no emotion when he is pitching a product. Straight faced and as serious a you can be, and does not seem to get too exicted about the product. I like that, you can tell he is not trying to sell you a terd in a shiny wrapper.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

That is very true, he just says it like it is, but I don't think I've bought a single product KVD hawks. That's weird, now that I think of that.

See that's my problem with KVD as a salesman,he shows no enthusiasm. Its like buy or don't i don't care. Really doesn't look like he's excited about the product so why should i be? And certainly doesn't make me believe that its something i need to have. All good salesman will make you want to buy there product.

fishing user avatarJ Francho reply :

Interesting, I do use Spro and Megastrike. But not because Roland recommends them. Or is it?!?!?

This is interesting. While I'll agree that Kevin usually doesn't show a lot of facial emotion when he's promoting a product, I do hear the enthusiasm in his voice.

fishing user avatarCaptain Obvious reply :

Its funny I have never bought a bait because a pro used it. For me I have to see the bait first so companies that have videos of their baits in the water get my views first.

The best salesman for me is BassResource.com :) I always check what you guys are saying about a product before buying it. Though I don't think you'll ever be able to sell me Rage Tail baits or Senkos. ;)

Man has his name on almost as much stuff as KVD. But the thing i like about KVD is that he is NOT a salesman. He tells you what type of baits, last episode of the bass pros i saw he told you what color and bait to use but not the manufacture. I know his sponsors didn't like it to much but it makes me listen allot more since the man doesn't have strike king stamped on his forehead.

I agree with you somewhat, I just think that KVD isn't that outgoing personality wise, I may be wrong because obviously I don't know the man but he just seems even keel, relaxed. (whatever you want to call it ) all the time.

With the advent of the internet, dozens of TV shows and just as many magazines, SELLING is not the same today like it was in the 70's and 80's. How many remember the original Dancin' Eel. Guys were chomping at the bit to get one or 12 in the day. Anglers today are much more savvy and descriminating. I see myself buying techniques, not products and then considering lure or equipment options. How you trust the pro's image will give the product credibilty. TV shows that are little more than infomercials get no attention from me. Anyone for a 2 ounce five hour energy drink ???

The big name pro anglers today wont just put there name a crap, they're smart enough to know that once their name gets tainted on bad products there's no getting back its former credibility.

fishing user avatarNorcalBassin reply :

KVD gets my vote as well. Saw his name on some finesse worms and figured I'd give them a shot since they were a lot cheaper than the Yamamotos that I was using. Ended up loving them and now use them for drop shotting more than any other bait. If not for KVD, I probably wouldn't have bought them.

fishing user avataravid reply :

I have to go with KVD...People who are sports fans but not fisherman know his name.

He's the Muhammad Ali of bass fishing.
