I took a trip to see my daughter this weekend and that allowed me to pass along the hiway, quite a few ponds, some about 15 acres to some good size lakes. I noticed when passing them, I started looking at spots that would hold fish. Cover, structure, points and grassy areas. All I could think about was what lure I would throw. Am I the only one that does this, and if not, is there a help group that I could become associated with to help me with this addiction? I mean, I was suppose to be concentrating on the hiway, but all I could think about was BASS BASS BASS BASS
I do it on a daily basis. Thats actually how I try to find some interesting spots to fish.
everytime!
sometimes i go check them out on googlemaps satellite view when i get home.
Dude don't sweat it, I do the same thing when I drive by the local pool. THAT'S when you know you need help.
I do it all the time! The problem I run into though is that alot of the one's that I pass is to and from work...and most all are on plant property of either Bayer, PPG, AEP, or Certainteed (where I work) so I end up getting run off at least twice a month. LOL
But when I travel I always take my tackle and throw a line whenever I can!
Matt
I tend to rubberneck when I see someone fishing on one of those lakes.
Seems normal to me. You only need to be concerned if you feel a strong urge to text someone about what you saw... now that's dangerous ;-)

Dude...how well do you think the fish would hold to the sloping end of the diving pool? I mean would you be in the shallows and throw a deep diving crank and have it follow going from deep to shallow, or would you go shallow to deep? OR would you throw a spinner bait and hit each level of the water colum? Running it just below the surface to slow rolling it across the bottom????
Yup, Water or fields. I'll check out the body of water or look for game.
I do it when watching TV or movies. I'll think "I bet there's one there" or "I'd throw a spinnerbait there".

Now that I've gotten back into fishing really heavily, I've been addicted to Google Earth. I'll see a spot while driving then look it up later. I've found some sweet little ponds and lakes using that program.
I do that everytime I see a pond while driving down the road. There is this one particular pond though that I really want to fish, it has got overhanging willows all around it and I really think that I could catch a huge fish in there.

+1
Google Earth is even better, but best of all is Bing Maps. Give it a try, and click on the Earth icon to switch features. Try the Bird's Eye aerial pictures because you can zoom in far farther than with the satellite pics, though not all areas have been photographed closely and sometimes the lakes are iced over in the MN pics. This feature can be very helpful for scouting.

Gee, thanks Beaver. Now I've got something else to play around with. Those Bing maps are far more detailed than Google Earth.
I do one better...I actually stop and fish. I ALWAYS have a rod and reel in my car. I actually once stopped and fished in a drainage ditch. I figured if there were fish in there, they'd hit anything I threw...there were no fish in there.
Every day on the way home from work I look. There's a great looking pond that has part of a shed collapsed in the water and several laydowns. All I can think is "10lber"...."10lber". 8-)

Yep. It's a sickness and I'll be seeking help right after the fishing season ends.

No prob. You can pretty much forget about Google Earth now. Those FLA lakes good on Bing. Too bad they're black and white though. For me, some local lakes almost look like the pics were taken just above the treetops.
The one I looked at behind the house was in color. I love the fact that when you change angles you get a totally new shot, not the same image viewed differently like in Google Earth.
I can drive along and see water running in a ditch and want to fish it.

I think all of us do that. The worst part for me is when someone is trying to talk to me in the vehicle and I just zone them out and start daydreaming.
i always look or stare , but i never carry a rod with me unless i know ill have the time to fish. but if it looks legal to fish , ill bing maps it when i get home. i even go through the whole area in birds eye and see if there is anything else around it.
All the time.
There are some beautiful ponds in this world.
I went with my neighbor to go look at a boat in Troutdale, Oregon last summer and the route took us along the Columbia River. We picked apart that stretch the whole time. I also am always on the look out for game such as deer or turkeys.
yea me too when i go places and see one i have to get my wife to hold the will cause i tend to start running out the road ive only stop once and fished a drainage ditch after 10 or so cast i caught one about 16'' but stop after people kept beeping the horn and yelling ;D ;D ;D
Pictures, movies, t.v., driving by walking by, pools, ditches, water in the grass, going down the gutter, in the toilet, when I spit on the ground, the bath tub, bird baths, fancy water fountains, fish tanks. It doesn't matter what or where it is, I just know there's a fish in it so I just gotta look.
yes, I do this all the time! but most of it is on private property
QuoteYup, Water or fields. I'll check out the body of water or look for game.
Yup, I'm with G. I also look for raptors. My mother called me Nature Boy when I was a kid. That's what I still do every day in the car.
Heck, you should see me looking out airplane windows. The person next to me sometimes remarks,"Whatcha' lookin' at?" Lakes, ponds, rivers. Then they're like,OH....
Yep, every time I see water all I think about is that would be a great place to fish. When I start talking about it my friends laugh, they just don't understand!
Always have a rod with me, freshwater from January to end of April, saltwater rod from May to end of December. I think the fish look at the calender.
