Is there a way? What do you do to beat the winter blues?
I clean my equipment and reorganize tackle.
8-)
There is a way, live where it doesn't get cold. Unfortunately for most of us, that's not an option right now. Therefore, we're screwed.
The water is not hard here so I am still going out fishing ... but catching is very poor. There is a spell of sub-freezing weather coming up and I don't think I will be going out to beat the water so I need to do what RW said - clean gear and reorganize.
The bad thing is that if I'm not out fishing, I'm more likely to be reading the BPS catalog or browsing BPS or *** on line ... then, look out - bait monkey time!

Yep, I buy more tackle when it's cold than I do during warm weather.
Rapala pro bass fishing on my kids' Wii
i take a different angle all together.
fishing is my stress reliever and and anti-depression activity.... so when winter rolls around i get in trouble.
started cooking a few years ago as a hobby! its an awesome alternative for me to fishing! And as of this last monday Ive combined them..... I cooked fish for the first time in my life.
Made walleye cakes! My boss gave me three HUGE fillets he got from a fishing trip to lake erie and those cakes came out AWESOME!
past that. the general reorganizing of my tackle boxes works sometimes.... ;D
cleaning tackle and lubing reels, sharpening hooks, maybe some BPS strike fishing for the Wii,reorganizing tackle.Looking for new fishing spots(lakes, ponds, etc.)constant Bassresource forum visits.Buying things for the baitmonkey.but most importantly spending lots of quality time with God and my wife.
I get past the winter by buying more tackle , and hoping the weather warms up quickly
Buy more tackle I probably wont use.
This year I am going to try Ice fishing to help beat cabin fever. Lakes need about another inch or so for safe ice though.
I like to do a lot of reading online - on fishing of course! As well as gleaning through fishing mags and several fishing forums. I'm always looking for some "new" and potentially effective to try out on the water.
For instance; attaching a spinner blade on a wacky rigged Senko! This.....I've gotta try!
To rub salt in the wound the Bass Pro catalog came yesterday.........

I got mine about 4 days ago .... I've got my list started

List is growing, but I'll still use my stand-bys
Don't spend too much money!
Clean and lube reels, clean rods and re-organize tackle all while trying to avoid the bait monkey. I think its safe to say that a lot of us spend a lot more time on BR when we can't be out on the water!
Well, I'm kind of stuck too. It's 61 right now at 8pm and will be dropping to the low 40's by 6am with 12-20 mph winds. The high tomorrow will be 64.
Tournament take off time is about 6:45am :'(.
I've got my shorts, sweat pants, long sleeve t-shirt, hoodie jacket, skull cap, jungle hat, 2pair of socks and flip flops all laid out ready to go.
I'm relining my reels (monthly) and getting all rods ready. I'm rigging up a worm rod, 2 senko rods, jig rod, small rubber swimbait rod, crankbait rod, floating rapala rod and fluke rod. I'll probably use only two rods all day but you have to be prepared.
So, I'll be out freezing my tail off while you guys are bundled up in blankets next to the fireplace.
Everyday . Trying to talk my mom into getting us a wii and I will buy every fishing game that is made for it. Oh yeah, and I get on this site about 6 times a day. Or watch fishing shows online.QuoteI clean my equipment and reorganize tackle.8-)

I was born in Florida but moved away back in '67. However, I can still remember how tough those winters are but I know you can handle it ..... ;D ;D

Ain't that the truth. I lurked on this board a bit all summer but didn't register and start posting until fishing started slowing down in November.
Well, I get into another sport. Snowmobiling. Nothing like driving through the white stuff having fun to make the days go by. But when the snow starts melting, I'll still have 2 months of down time to reload on tackle, clean, lube, ect.

High temp here tomorrow is 27. 27 is going to be our high and you are complaining about it being in the low 40s in the morning? I would kill to see it get into the 50s sometime again. Coldest year we have ever had.
QuoteHigh temp here tomorrow is 27...
Same here in my part of Tennessee - 27 as the high. It's 8:10pm here now at it's 21deg outside. I don't think I will be fishing tomorrow...although I was out fishing the other day when it was 29 and kept having to stick the rod in the water to melt the ice in the guides.
I'll clean and go over the boat, then I'll go through and clean the reels, rods and organize tackle.
Tournaments like that are nothing until you've fished one in the rain with the temperature at a whopping 33 degrees. My hands got so dang cold i couldn't even tie a palomar knot
I just woke up to a whopping 13 degrees. I am sitting here on the forum and watching reruns on fishing shows. It is not going to be a fun day. Someone hacked my computer and ordered $175 worth of tackle from Tackle Warehouse. I have tried to hide my passwords from the bait monkey. Some how he always fiinds them.
16 degrees here. I won't have my on-lne order ready 'till later today or tomorrow ... still shopping :
Watch videos. I'm starting to get a decent collection. Read.
Clean reels.
I clean and service reels for others which can keep you busy.
Organize tackle.
Been doing a bunch of work on my boat.

Good Luck in the tournament! In NJ its 25 with a a 10-20 mph wind. I'm watching Bassmasters and the new Cabelos catalog came today, so I can't complain too much.
Can you post your results so I can drool..........

No tournament for me today here in TN - I think you mean Bassn Blvd who fished today down in FL. It's 18 deg outside right now here and I'm stayin' inside 8-)

I'm toast - my local lakes froze over in the past two days. Enough ice that I can't fish...but not thick enough to ice fish. What now?
Ive made enemies with my wife by flipping and pitching from my kitchen, across the dining room and into the living room. I have hardwood floors so you can practice like your skipping docks. "Under the end table and slide it under the couch". It gets the cat going nuts too! Oh well, only a couple of more months, my dock skipping should be good by then. Ive been trying to get her to keep the christmas tree up longer too because it also makes a good target.

i have that too but its too easy and you can only use crankbaits
