wacky worm hook choice 2024

fishing user avatarbriantoledo reply :

what types of hooks do most of you use for wacky worm rigging. I to am new to wacky style this year. been looking at different senko type worms. Saw gamaktsu had some wide gaps in 2/0 some recommended. also do u use the weighted finesse hooks for wacky rig such as 2/0 with1/8 oz head? interested in size of weight, brand/type hooks, and hook sizes you use. thank you

fishing user avatarGTrombly reply :

I usually use the gamakatsu finesse wide gaps. I used the buckeye flick-it jig heads last year and liked them. I bought some BPS shimmy heads to try out this year. Y ou can use the jig heads to fish deeper, faster.

Flick-it worked well for me as well. Lake fork wacky thingamajig is pretty neat as well.

fishing user avatarQuitlimpin reply :

Matzuo Weedless wide gap in 2/0. Get em on eBay in bulk and save a ton.  The weed guard will come unwound after you catch a few fish but doesn't bother me too much cause then I can use them in open water.  With a gycb senko, no weight necessary.

These...http://www.***.com/descpage-OMOS.html

They're so sharp your eyes will start to bleed if you stare at them too long ::)

fishing user avatarHooligan reply :

I like the Owner Mosquito hook in 2/0 down to 2, depending on the plastic.

I also use the Jackall heads in 1/16-1/8.  They perform better than the others I tried, there's almost no hookset needed.

X 2 on the Owner hooks.. :)

fishing user avatarscaledriver reply :

I like owner also. I usually use the 1/0 mosquito hook, it's also good for using as a drop shot hook.

fishing user avatarStinkus reply :

I use 2/0 or 4/0 circle hooks. Minimal effort to set the hook.

fishing user avatarBig Bait Fishing reply :

Owner 3x wacky hooks , with out a doubt !!! for 5" stickbaits , this hook is tops . can also be used as a drop shot hook . these hooks are super sharp and super strong ....

fishing user avatarbriantoledo reply :

i am planning on using this hook mostly for 5"senko so go with the mosquito 1/0 or 2/0? also if i want to use this hook for drop shot what would be a preferred size for finesse type zoom worms? thanks for advice

fishing user avatarhookingem reply :

1/0 Gama. Finesse Wide Gaps do the trick for me.  :)

fishing user avatarbriantoledo reply :

or if i go with the owner 3x wacky do you prefer a number 1 or 2 for 5" senko. are these hooks any good for drop shot?

Both the 3X and the Mosquito are excellent hooks for both applications.  The Mosquito takes next to nothing to hook-up.  You just don't have to drive that hook home at all, reel up the slack and very, very light set.  The 3x is also a little heavier hook.

Dropshot nose hook I usually use a 1 or 2, wacky on a smaller finesse worm I'll usually have a 1/0.

I usually use 2 , but you could use a size 1, and Yes they work great for dropshoting, so you kinda kill 2 birds with 1 stone....so to speak..lol

fishing user avatarMr SwimJig reply :

I like the Owner Wacky hooks and I also the Lake Fork hook and weight system.

Also if you want it weighted, you can crimp in a split shot to the shank.

fishing user avatarDarren. reply :

Big fan of Gamakatsu splitshot/dropshot hooks in #2 (and #1, but use #2 ((even used 4's)) the most - and in black). These hooks are my confidence hooks! Caught some nice sized bass with the 2s. Looks like BPS has them on sale right now, too! Need to pick up some 25-packs ASAP.

Also playing with Owner Wacky hooks in #2 - they're wider gap than the Gammys, and pretty nice, but I've not had the success with them I have with the Gammys. I picked up a bunch of packs from *** over the holidays as they were less than a buck per pack. Alas, looks like they don't carry the #2 hook anymore.

Personally I've not found the need for big hooks when wacky worming. Of course, the largest worm I currently use is 6". Mostly use 4-5" worms.

Wacky is my absolute favorite and most productive method for bass. Love it. :)

What is that?

I've found a good fit with the 2/0 Gammy Finesse Wide Gap hook. The shape of this hook really causes it to find it's mark in the fishes jaw. Sometimes, all you have to do is tighten the line after the cast to see if you can feel anything, and you end up hooking the fish just by doing that.

Its called a moto hook, hand tied 50# mono guard, which you can also cut in half to make a V shaped guard. They are Gammy hooks in 1/0, 2/0, and 3/0 sizes. Very sturdy hooks.

If you want the site to get them at PM me, because BR won't let me post the site. Its 3.99 for a pack of 4. If anyone wants I can pick some up for you,  you can paypal me, and I ship it. Save you guys some money.

I saw the Gamakatsu 306 in person the first time, today.  I found a new wacky/dropshot hook, methinks.

For wacky rig, I use a 2/0 or 3/0 EWG Gamagatsu. Size of hook depends on size of bait.

i use the 1/0 for 5" stick baits , using the Owner wacky hooks . i don't use them for drop shoting , i use a EWG Owner j-hook in 2/0 (6' Robo worm straight tail worms , Zoom finesse worms . 3/0 for bigger worms like the Zoom trick worm and Robo 7" fat worms) ...  :)

@Hooligan - if that picture is of the weedless wacky's, they look awesome. I have some on backorder and can't wait to try them. Just so others know that is a thin tube on the back of that hook to run your tag end back through while dropshotting and should force the hook to stand out ......... should be awesome. I am going to try the moto hooks for senkos too.

It is indeed.  I got 2x 5 packs from the rep this morning and fished them today.  My new favourite wacky/dropshot hook.

I prefer to fish right in the weeds, and normally use a weedless hook for W-rigging:
