I love the stinger hook in the back of that bait.

fishing user avatarmanny reply :

i have a lure that's kinda similar to this one, although not nearly as nice, and never had any luck with it. it did have very nice action though. i'm sure this one does too!

fishing user avatarGatorbassman reply :

Correct me if I'm wrong. Wasn't it Raul that panned the term "The Bait Monkey".

fishing user avatarBrad_Coovert reply :

Raul let the bait monkey out of his cage.

The rest is history.

Brad

fishing user avatarKy_Lake_Dude reply :

cool

fishing user avatarThe_Natural reply :

That bait may scare the bass around here!  I do need to pull the trigger on a few Mattlures- they will probably become the first (and only) swimbaits I own.

fishing user avatarValascus reply :

I agre with that assessment Natural. I don't know how big that bait is, but it is probably definately too big for the majority of bass in MO. Swimbaiting is just one of those techniques I just can't get into. 1) I don't have the right equipment...the heaviest set up I have is a H action BPS Extreme paired up with Shimano Citica Dl200D. That may handle a MattLures Baby Bass, but barely. 2) I just can't see such large baits like the one in Raul posted being effective in waters I fish normally. I think the biggest baits I would ever see myself throwing are MattLures baits...any larger or more expensive than that and it would be overkill for any reasonable uses in my area.

fishing user avatarRaul reply :

Guys, guys, guys, when you will learn ? :;)

I can 't believe that such a distinguished group of anglers still believe that a bait is "TOO LARGE" for the ordinary, common and regular bass you are used to fish. Bass have pea size brains and HUGE mouths, of course that the primary goal of fishing with a huge chunk of plastic or wood is to ketch me a BIG MOMMA, that 's my intention but, as many big momma hunters will tell you, it doesn 't always happen, but that doesn 't mean that I don 't catch smaller fish with them, on the contrary, apparently and in my perosnal experience smaller fish do love them big baits, as a matter of fact I 've caught more 1-2 pounders with those 5-6-7" baits than biguns. Actually I haven 't caught something interesting with them, the largest fish I 've landed with them big baits is a six pounder ( fish that are not landed don 't count, "what 's the biggest fish you 've lost" ..... my rear end ), 1-2 pounders are too numerous to count.

How big the lure is now that you 're asking ? 7 inches.

You guys have to learn to think "out of the box", the difference between a good day and a lousy one is in your imagination and your own creativity. ;)

fishing user avatarlubina reply :

Very nice lure Raul, Can you tell us the name or is a secret?  ;D

After I fished with the BBZ-1 every thing else look tiny.

I wasn't considering it's size; I was just referring to the type of bait.  It's just not a bait that is condusive to my area.

I like this lure

fishing user avatarMattlures reply :

Thanks guys for believing in my baits but I gotta agree with Raul. I dont think that bait is to big at all but personaly I dont like the looks of it. I would rather just throw an M.S. slammer. Now they arent verry impresive looking either but they are PROVEN!

fishing user avatarguest reply :

Raul has this thing for exotic, usually japanese, usually very expensive lures.

They are gorgeous examples of the lure makers art, and I really enjoy him showing them to us.

Keep finding those treasures dude.

fishing user avatarmanny reply :

my lure > your lure

fishing user avatarMattlures reply :

Manny I would definatly rather throw Raul's bait. I bought a couple of those storm waterdawgs and have not gotten bit. It could just be the funky colors but I am pretty sure I could get a fish off of Raul's.

Hey Raul what is it an Evergreen, Jackle?

fishing user avatarRaul reply :

Imakatsu Magnum Buzz Bill Matt.

For me soft swimbaits have been more productive in the terms of bigger fish than hard swimbaits, like I said before, the biggest one I 've caught with hard swimbaits is a 6 pounder. I know the reason why hard swimbaits catch more fish than soft ones, think of hard swimbaits as huge crankbaits, they have lots of hooks dangling from them, it is no suprise that smaller fish are more prone to encounter those dangling hooks and what in a soft swimbait is a missed strike ( the fish doesn 't hook up ) in a hard swimbait it becomes a hooked fish, the laws of probabilities by having more hooks are greater than having a single hook.

But I 'm trying to catch them big mommas with hard swimbaits  ;), it 's not that I 'm going to abandon soft swimbaits, I 'm just expanding my horizons.

Meanwhile and since I don 't fish during the winter ( time to do house chores the balll & chain asks me to do, like painting, fixin ' stuff, etc  ::) ) I 'm going to go to the gym to do some weight lifting excercises, I 'm trying to grow Schwarzenneger arms to cast them big baits.  ;)

I'm with Brad on this one.  A lure.  Whats wrong buddy not feelin good or you mistakenly finish the cart and shiping info before noticing you only bought 1?

;)

fishing user avatarRaul reply :

I said A speaking as a figurative way of saying a new type, not in quantity but in type, I think 3 or 4 units to start with would be more likely.  ;)

fishing user avatarscbassin reply :

fishing user avatarFishTank reply :

Awesome bait and video.  I hope you catch a lot on that thing.

Just in case, what is the price of ownership or should I even ask?

fishing user avatarSPEEDBEAD. reply :

Thanks LRod. Great video.

fishing user avatarT-rig reply :

I think the price is around $45. Well worth the money!

fishing user avatarT-rig reply :

This lure can be casted with a H rod, it only weighs 1.3oz.
