I prob throw a chug bug more then anything else, but they have never produced a real big bass. Buzzbaits seem to produce bigger fish for me, but not as many.
What do you guys consider the best top water bait for big bass and also obviously numbers help.
rapala x walk 13 any color
Rage Tail Shad is what I caught my biggest bass on, and has consistently been my top topwater lure.
Anyone tried the IMA topwater plugs..?

I'm just gonna take a wild guess and say that it was a Mattlures Hardgill. ;D
P.S. Look at the rod.
The RATTALUR - made by Hub's Chub. My go to top water for big fish from pre-spawn (63+ degrees) to late fall. My personal best on this lure is a 10.2 in Florida and a 9.6 in Louisiana.
Johnny Rattler - similiar to The RATTALUR but louder rattles
A.C. Shiner #550
Buzz Bait - Black w/Black Blade or White w/Gold Blade
Frog - Spro or Tru Tungsten
yellow magic, white buzz baits and ribbits
In waters noted for big bass, the chug bug will take its fair share, but I agree with you,
there are other surface lures that seem to be more attractive to portly cows.
An in-house survey about three years back found the buzzbait to be the clear winner
for catching big bass on top. Though I've caught some slobs on buzzbaits,
my two best came on the Original Floating Rapala during the pre-spawn.
I'm probably going a tad off-topic here, but I believe that the biggest bass
are more vulnerable to lures that run a couple inches "below" the surface.
To that end, we've never found anything more weedless than a Johnson Spoon
dressed with a Kalin 5.0 single-tail grub (double-tails tend to dampen the spoon's rocking action).
During the post spawn, a J-spoon & grub can be hog dynamite when 'bulged' through the salad bowl

rage tail shad and black buzzbaits for me
black jitterbug, or yum money hound.
Just from my experiences: large spook type baits and frogs for me.Also, believe it or not GYCB kut tail worms and long straight tail worms weightless walked on the surface have bagged the most pigs for me.
