What's the difference between the megabass pop x and the pop max, is it just the size?

Length,weight, and hook size
Pop Max is slightly larger and has gill slits that create bubbles when water passes through. Gotta smile, we go from talkin' ice fishing, it hits 40 degrees, and we're thinking topwater. I definitely prefer my water liquid and warm! Oh, and Merry Christmas.

Plip vs PLOC !!!!!
Thanks for the reply's. How do the actions of the pop x and pop max compare?

Yep, I'm already thinking about topwater fishing next year. Ice fishing is fun to tide me over until open water, but it just isn't the same. I received a couple tackle warehouse gift cards for Christmas, so I think I'm going to get either a pop max or a pop x with them. Not sure which one, I tend to lean more toward smaller baits more often than not, but I hear a lot more about the pop max.

The max is about 2.5x bigger, and both baits have gill slits in them.

Thanks for the clarification. I was just quoting TW's descriptions. I'm actually too cheap to spend 18.00 on a topwater bait. I can't believe what some guys spend on lures, especially swimbaits!
Price & packaging, and Marketing statement.
The Pop Max is better as a walking bait, and the Pop X is more of a true popper. That's the easiest way to explain the differences.
Like OK Mike said the Max is much easier to walk. I start out with some pops and pauses and then walk it in.
The Knockoffs that are custom painted are very good.
Guy on Facebook did this for me to my paint specifications.
Thanks for all of the reply's, I'm looking for a walking popper so I'm definitely leaning toward the pop max.
pop-x is a walking popper as well and its very easy to do.

Have you tried them both? Would you say the actions are different, and if so, how are they different?
yes, ive tried both. the pop max is indeed easier to walk but the pop x is not difficult. the pop max is more consistent. actions are similar, I use a smaller diameter line on the pop x. youtube is blocked here at work but you should be able to find some videos.
ive pretty much stopped using other popper style baits since fishing with the pop x and pop max. I probably have the pop-x tied on 80% of the time vs 20% with pop max. might just be a confidence thing.
youre going to have to get both. and they wont be your last!

One single Popmax lure has accounted for more fish in the past two years than hundreds of dollars in other baits, and it's not like that's the only bait I throw. I don't think it's hype, and I don't think it's expensive from an ROI perspective.
Both sizes walk just fine. Yes, the max walks easier but as mentioned the x does fine too. I catch more on the pop x than the max. They can get pricey but if you keep an eye out you can pick them up for $10-12 online.

Certainly food for thought. My wife would tell you that I've been known to save a dime and end up spending a buck because of it.
proof they walk! its easier if you make the sound effects like he does at 0:55 mins.

tie a good knot on undamaged line and keep them out of the trees and they should last you a very long time. replacing a $7 crankbait ends up being more expensive in the long run in my experience. jigs and soft plastics? $$$

Thanks for the video, that really helped. Which is your guys favorite all around color of the pop max or pop x?
i havent fished enough different colors to be able to tell you what is better but i tie on a bass color (GG bass i think?) all the time and i can tell you it works in many conditions.
i only fished my white python pop x once and didnt get hit (although my GG bass struck out too that time of the day). my other black pop-x hasnt seen the water. i plan on using it early morning or into the night.
my only pop max is a different bass type color, sorry i forgot which.
Thanks!

GG bass, Tonosama Frog, CMF, Viper.
Python. Why? Because it looks cool, and I can see it easily. Sometimes, the biggest fish just quietly slurp the thing, and if it's gone, you can set the hook.
White python favorite color for sure, i also like black orochi
J. Franco,
You have my attention on the Megabass Pop X. What is you go-to color?
Python. It's easy for me to see in the water.
Forgot about this video. Little Popmax cast to catch action.
I ended up buying the pop x, and it is well worth the money. Walks as easily and tighter than a spook, spits, pops, it does everything and it does everything well. I used it to set my current record for numbers a few weeks ago with 99 bass in 6-7 hours.
I can't catch a single bass on the pop x, but will throw on a Zara spook puppy and immediately start getting results. What retrievals are working for you guys?
Also, when I pause the Pop X, it turns heads up and the tail end goes vertically underwater almost 90 degrees. Is it supposed to stay horizontal at all times?
I ended up talking to a Product Designer at Megabass this morning and he was extremely helpful. He said that the Pop X should only rest at a 20-30 degree angle. Their customer service is outstanding and they are paying for shipping because they want to quality test it to identify the issue.
Poppers sit head up tail down. Other walking baits sit flat. The bubble walker sits flat as does the spook. Sammy and the duo pencil baits rest in the same position as the popper when still.

The pop x is not designed to have the tail sitting very far down, only in the 20-30 degree angle to the waters surface as stated by Dorado.
@Dorado, I usually retrieve mine by quickly walking it in (occasionally making it spit works well also), sometimes with pauses and sometimes without. I usually don't have to pause it. People say that the pop x is no different than a spook if you walk it, but it has a very unique sound and action far different from a traditional walking bait. You definitely have a defect, don't give up on them yet.
@IndianaFinesse I definitely have faith in this lure and like how their staff handled things so responsively. Included a pic just as a visual. Thanks for the details bro.
