demolished my PBx2 2025

fishing user avatarJRez reply :

I finally bought a whopper popper. I got the 130 and Loon scheme. I was still hesitant on how big the lure is. After reading that even dinks smash the 130 size I I just skipped the other sizes. I can't believe how awesome it is. Truly a great lure. Within 30 min I got a 5lb bass. That destroyed my 2 and some change lb bass PB. Two cast after releasing him a monster 7lb bass smoked it. Top water sure does get your adrenaline going. Still can't believe it. If I can figure how to post pics I will update this post. Cheers y'all

I do agree to an extent. Unfortunately, you're wrong on this. After extensive research, the good outweigh the bad significantly. The lure company charges a lot, but the quality and results are proven effective. I can't tell you how many people I asked about it had phenomenal results catching a big fish. I tried it one time and caught my PB twice.

I know a group of guys that had to have the bait as soon as it came out, and they have retired them after a few outings.  There are no magical lures, just magical fisherman.  Believe in yourself and good things will happen.  If you like the lure, stay with it.  Everyone should do what they believe in, regardless of what others do.  Knock yourself out, I'm sure a double digit will jump up and bite your bait soon!

I agree, but the OP is onto something.

I know I fish certain lures more because I have caught fish on them, and I catch fish on them because I fish them more...but even taking this into account I have found this lure truly outperforms most others.

Congrats on the great fish @JRez. I was late to the whopper plopper party. Didn't want to believe such a goofy looking lure could really work as well as guys claimed. I felt like they couldn't work any better than another topwater put in the same place, I was wrong. They're a big time producer that calls fish from long distances. I've thrown all kinds of other topwater on guide trips while I have 2 novice anglers in the boat with me, fishing behind me, and their ploppers get hammered while my baits get ignored. They're not magic, but there's certainly something to them when the fish are on them. Some of the most violent topwater strikes out there too.

Thanks everyone. Speaking of goofy looking. I actually found a whopper Plopper on the ground before. I had no idea what it was. It was pretty beat up looking and the hooks needed to changed. I ended up throwing it away because the goofiness of the lure didn't look promising.

fishing user avatarFCPhil reply :

Last night I posted that the WP produces better than other lures in my experience. This morning I caught my biggest fish of the year on a WP 110.

One thing I think that is unique about the whopper plopper is that although it is loud, the noise it makes is more natural, it is all splash. Buzzbaits make a metallic squeal and many others have glass or metal rattles but the whopper plopper is all water. Just something I have noticed.

fishing user avatarDarren. reply :

Congrats on the PBx2!

Haven't tried that bait, but I remember when Larry Dahlberg

was introducing it years ago on his show. Perhaps one of these

days I'll give it a shot...

Yep. Whopper Ploppers don't work.... Nothing to see here... ;)

Well, his caught him and fish!

That's the best kind of lure!

fishing user avatarNYWayfarer reply :

Plopper Power!!

They are pretty durable as well. I have bounced mine off of rocks and tree limbs when casting towards shore. My WP keeps chugging along.

fishing user avatarJaderose reply :

Never caught a fish one one.  Thrown it a bunch of times.  I know it works....just doesn't seem to for me or where I fish.  Congrats on your great day!

fishing user avatarMainebass1984 reply :

Whopper Ploppers catch big fish. Right now they work better then any time of year. If your casting at visible targets you wont get nearly as many bites as covering water casting over flats. This lure attracts fish from a distance. I haven't got any giants on it yet but a 7-2 from Maine is my largest. If your not regularly throwing this bait -especially this time of year- you are missing fish.

fishing user avatarDINK WHISPERER reply :

Congrats on the new PB bro! Don't listen to the negativity and fish what you want and can afford. I was really late to the plopper party myself. I couldn't take all the hype anymore. First time using it i caught 2 over 5lbs in about 25 min. I'm a believer for sure....

Oh man that's awesome. Did you have the 130 size? I'm believer for sure.

Thanks! Keep on trying! What color and size did you buy? I got the 130 Loon (black one). I think the black color conceals the artificial look more so they only see splashes and hear plops.

fishing user avatarrippin-lips reply :

Totally garbage. Please send them to me for proper disposal. I'll even pay shipping to get those awful things out of your site. A few 110's in my bag still. The newly designed 110 is great.

I got the Bone 130.  I'm gonna give it a good work out tomorrow and Sunday on a different lake I've been wanting to try.  I haven't given up on it yet...just no luck yet

fishing user avatarKoz reply :

I love the Whopper Plopper and have had success with it (the near 6 pounder in my profile pick was on a Bone 110).

But I've noticed something odd on the small lagoons that I fish. Initially the WP is like crack for the bass. But after a few outings with it on a lagoon the productivity drops off. Maybe it's coincidence with the changing season, but it's been the same way on the 9 lagoons that I regularly fish.

They're also magnets for other wildlife. I had a Red Tailed Hawk pick it up once and if there's a gator in the lagoon it acts like a dinner bell for them.

Bass do get educated to lures if they get frequent enough exposure to a particular presentation. The Whopper Plopper will be like the Alabama Rig. First time through the school and the bass jump all over it. On the 100th pass they have learned that something is just not quite right.

This is the reason that season after season jigs and plastic worms continue to catch bass. Those presentations have few "negative clues". The bass have a hard time differentiating between those lures and the shad, minnows and crayfish they always eat.

I suspect the Plopper will lose some of it's shine over time but it will continue to be a great surface lure that most anglers should have in their tackle box for the times when the top water bite is on.

fishing user avatarBassB8Caster reply :

Good work! i have the WP 130 in loon. It took until the 4th outing to catch on on it. The fish were around 2-2.5lbs. I like it and agree it will be a big fish catcher. My first expensive lure before the WP (the WP is considered a more expensive lure to me) was the BBZ1 Rat @ $25. But man that thing works. I would say that will be the only thing keeping me from doing real well with the WP because i dont want to use anything else besides the Spro Rat.

Interestingly, i have not had any big blow ups on the rat or WP. the fish just "grab" the lure. I love topwater and really look forward to fishing them this fall.

haha! I can see that. It just attracts all sorts of wildlife. Im going to try it tomorrow during sunrise. See if I can get the beast in its lair again.
