Since the Chatterbait seemed to be the lure of 2006, I got to wondering what lure will fly off the shelves in 2007.
Any predictions?

Swimbaits. As more people learn to use swimbaits in places other than California and more companies make good quality less expensive baits that are more suited to the rest of the country you will see more people throwing swimbaits in 2007. I also think glidebaits which most bass fishermen have never heard of will grow in popularity among bass fishermen. I don't think we will have anything close to the chatterbait craze though.
5 inch swimming senko.

That's exactly what I was thinking. ;D ;D

It will probably be an old bait that isn't used that much today if at all.

That very well could be Cotton Cordell's CC Rattlin Shad that's a good old lure that was hot on the pro tour sometime ago. That thing catches everything and I mean everything.

If one of the BASS pros admits to winning a tournament with the Fat Ika, I think this bait has the potential to be the next Senko. It already is for me.

Dont say that Kent! This has been my secret here in Colorado for a while. I dont want to lose my mojo! You're probably right but no need to say it. ;D ;D ;D

RW, the Ika is maybe one of the only baits I have never experimented with. I have always found that tubes will do the job, but, I'm always open to new baits.
Can you, or have you, posted a thread on how you fish an Ika?
Will be anxiously waiting .
Bassnleo........There is a ton of threads on the Ika and how to fish it..........Do a search and you'll find them.........There is also a current thread on the Ika with links on it to the other threads...........

Dude,
Once you get to know RW you'll hear his mantra
It goes something like this.
If you fish a GLoomis GLX rod, with a shimano stella reel, using 6lb yo-zuri ultra soft with an x point hook stuck into a fat Ika, you are one smart guy.
Now that's not EXACTLY the same as saying that if you don't fish a GLoomis GLX , with a shimano stella loaded with 6lb yo-zuri ultra soft with an xpoint hook and a fat ika, that you are a dummy, but it comes pretty close. 8-)
I dont know but i am sure it will have something to do with the new
senko-ika-chattering-swimbait
In all honesty, I think there are two things that will happen in 2007 as far as lures go. One I hope doesn't happen and the other probably will but I could care less.
I agree with Randall on swimbaits. A lot of people are starting to realize that swimbaits are big fish baits. And as he said with a lot of companies taking strides to produce cheaper, productive swimbaits that everyone can afford, they will probably take off in 2007. This is the one I could honestly care less about...seeing as I have very little interest in swimbaits for some odd reason...maybe I should have some interest.
The other one is the eventual discovery of the Fat Ika. I hope this one doesn't happen. Heck they are hard enough to find in stores as it is now. If word ever gets out on how good a fish catcher they are then you may as well just start ordering them online...and even online stocks may start drying up if it's popularity skyrockets.

Well there is a very slight chance you might see Bill Lowen use them. I buy alot of tackle from a local tackle store that sponsers him and a couple shows on the outdoor channel. Anyways they have a pro team given there not as popular as Bill Lowen and at that neither is he yet, but they all take turns when not fishing to work in the store. I was getting some fat Ika's one day and one of the guys working said you actually catch fish with them. Long story short after I told him how to rig them and fish them he was taking bags of various colors of them of the shelf for himself for a upcoming tourney. Anyways these guys and Bill lowen all fish togather alot so there is a slight chance we might see him use them. I gave credit to RW and BassResource.com

THATS FUNNY
I was thinking about this a month or so ago and was going to put my vote in for the GYCB Flappin Hog but it has been discontinued. So I guess my next vote is for the Swimming Senko. If the swimming Senko falls through, my second is the Gambler Lizard.
And Dude,
Avid is funny
Glad to bring y'all a few chuckles.
I don't think the fat ika is going to be the "breakout bait", because I don't think the tournament pros throw it much. Not because it's a secret. Trust me, if you and I know about it than the pro's certainly do, but because it is a big fish lure.
Now we all have seen a six inch bass hit a 12" bait, but the senko will catch the "keeper" bass the pros are looking for. Also it doesn't lend itself to "power fishing" that seems to have swept the professional ranks in recent years.
It's a great bait for sure, so I could be dead wrong on this but my gut tells me it's going to be a high end Japanese crankbait, or a custom crank that's going to impress at some tournies and bust out.
P.S. wheres Muddy's monica post? 8-)
Yikes ive been censored my mistake
I don't know for sure, but I was fishing senkos the year before they hit, the shaky rig same time, had a chatterbait that caught a few before I lost it and couldn't find any more... My guess is the hula grub will be the hot lure this year, because that has been my latest, greatest. But I can't be sure, because I still haven't caught a fish on a swimbait or a drip *****. So I'm going with the Weather Channel lure. The one that changes on your rod mid-cast. Youthought you threw a swimbait, it's a drop shot when you get it back to the boat. Throw that drop shot out there, reel up a chatterbait. Throw that chatterbait, reel in a senko. Lure subject to change without notice. But they're pretty, Raul. I'll sell you the first one for 1,000,000,000,000,000 ;D
Man, when the Fat Ika cat gets out of the bag......Whew!
Brad
Im gonna have to go with the Furbit Frog
Legs are made of rabit hair and a little colorado for extra flash and vibration in open water

Hookers, You have to much time on your hands.
I have just ordered a new 3d yozuri crank (1st one on the left). Looks different and I hope, promising. Maybe it will be my lure of the year. I will let you know.
QuoteIm gonna have to go with the Furbit FrogLegs are made of rabit hair and a little colorado for extra flash and vibration in open water
I think that's a great looking bait, Those rabbit fur legs must move incredibly in the water, but that little spinner blade looks like a problem to me. The beauty of the frog is that you can fish it through anything, the slimiest goop in the lake. That blade looks like a weed magnet.

I am sorry, but I have to disagree. IMHO the Ika is 10 times the "power fishing" lure that the senko is. What other plastic can you chuck that far without a weight. I am always able to cover more water with an Ika than with a senko. I really am afraid that it will finally be outed as the fish magnet it is.
Just glad I overloaded on them in the bargain boat at cabelas!
colors light lure.
I am sitting here laughing at myself. I thought---before I joined this forum---that I had the ultimate top secret for this area as I had not seen or heard of anyone throwing them( Ika ) and bammmm, my bubble was busted. I used those Ika's for the first time last spring and they waxed a lot of fish. It is annoying though. I hate throwing senko's and Ika's because it is just too slow for me. I like to pitch, hop, hop, reel, pitch, hop, hop, etc, etc, and cover water and I try not to use these slow falling baits but, they just work. Please, someone help me leave those things alone. They should pin the phrase " aholic " to these baits. I am starting to feel like I need to say " Hi, my name is Jim and I am a Senkoholic and Ikaholic".
Its the one I just hung up and lost. No question about it.
