fishing user avatarwarpath58 reply :

She called me and ask if I needed some nice fishing pliers I figured a pair of needle nose but BOY was I thrilled when she pulled these out of her purse. post-48975-0-15102800-1413680566_thumb.jpost-48975-0-60561700-1413680599_thumb.j

Really?!?!? WOW...

Edit: Ok, I googled and found that them to be over $300 and even more expensive for the 7".

The leather sheath is $50 alone.

So what makes them so expensive?

fishing user avatarwarpath58 reply :

These are the 6'' and the best price I found was $295 plus shipping. The are solid Titanium I guess that is what makes them expensive. though they would have to be made out of gold for me to buy a pair at retail. They do have a nice feel to them. And I don't think these have ever been used. I asked if there was any other fishing gear there after she got home and said they had a bunch of stuff. I went back but they had closed up. I will be back first thing in the morning, I hope they're other stuff is as good a deal as these were. I will let y'all know.

fishing user avatarCatch and Grease reply :

I would sell them... Heck who needs a 300$ pair of pliers!

fishing user avatartrubs reply :

Great find. I need to stop at more yard sales. I tend to just slow down and gawk.

Did your wife know they had that value when she bought them or did you just get lucky?

fishing user avatarPondHopper96 reply :

I'd have to sell those if I got them for 10$

fishing user avatarVolFan reply :

fishing user avatarWDinarte reply :

nice, you never know what you can find in some of this yard sales... is like fishing an unknown water, you cast your line and hope for the best catch. lesson learned, the next YS around me I will stop and take a look. :eyebrows:

fishing user avatarwisconsin heat reply :

be sure to tell us what else you pick up!

fishing user avatarSam reply :

Great find by a great wife.

She did good and needs a nice dinner at an expensive restaurant as a thank you.

Or a mink coat.

fishing user avatarMontanaro reply :

I'd flip those for a new rod and reel.

fishing user avatar*Hank reply :

What a steal!

fishing user avatarhatrix reply :

Wow I can't believe they are $300... You know what they say though. It is only worth what someone is willing to pay. I can guarantee I won't be buying $300 pliers any time soon or probably ever. lol If I paid $300 they better do a lot more then just be pliers. Do they also make me dinner and do my laundry?

fishing user avatarDelaware Valley Tackle reply :

Awesome find. Hopefully the other guys wife didn't sell the wrong tool on him. I had some old aluminum arrows to go in a garage sale once and while I was away fishing a tx my wife laid out a dozen carbon arrows and sold them for like $20, field points and all. I still razz her on that one.

or maybe a really ticked off divorcee??

a buddy of mine scored about $1100 worth of golf clubs a few years back for $100.  The lady he bought them from told him they belonged to her recently divorced exhusband who was a cheater....

fishing user avatarColdSVT reply :

I got 30$!!!

Pay pal? Lolol

Lucky!

I found a new in box shimano tld at a yard sale once for 15$...i snatched it up and caught my first tarpon on it a few weeks later

fishing user avatarDarren. reply :

D - double - A - NG! Nice find!

fishing user avatar*Hootie reply :

To paraphrase something my Dad used to say, "There's no such thing as a $300.00 pair of pliers, but there is an abundance of FOOLS who will pay $300.00 for a pair".

Hootie

fishing user avatarwarpath58 reply :

Update I went back the next day and everything else related to fishing was gone, but I was looking around and noticed that they had a bunch of fake jewelry in a box, turns out it was the box to the van staal pliers so I gave them a quarter for the box of jewelry. tossed that and now I have the box. So now I have a complete conversation piece. And I still haven't figured out why anyone would pay $300 for these. They are nice and cut great but that's it.

fishing user avatarMontanaro reply :

Pliers, sheath, AND box?

Cash in man.

fishing user avatarsmalljaw67 reply :

Don't sell them, in fact if you use them once you won't want to sell them. I say that as I got to use those on a guides boat many years ago, you don't even know you're holding pliers in your hand and the grip it puts on a hook, you don't have to squeeze to hold onto the hook, in fact you won't have a hook slip out of the jaws, they really are incredible pliers, to rich for my blood but if I got them like you did, I'd never part with them.

fishing user avatardam0007 reply :

That's awesome! Take her out to dinner!

fishing user avatarNJSalt reply :

Great find, they will treat you well.

While the price may not seem as justified to guys here, these pliers are a must have for a lot of guys who fish saltwater here in the northeast. Whether in waders in deeper water or swimming in a wetsuit, these things can be continually submerged in saltwater for as long as you can keep them there and never rust, corrode, etc. You can't break these things. I know someone that found a set washed up on the beach and they looked new as they day they were made. The person had their name marked on them and he was able to find the owner. Turns out, he had lost them 3 weeks prior while making a deep swim to a rock.

Would I pay the money to use them freshwater fishing? no. Would I for the other types of fishing that I do? I did and don't regret it at all. Enjoy them! They'll take care of you.
