fishing user avatarRHuff reply :

Anyone got the scoop on the dates for 2020?

fishing user avatardgkasper58 reply :

No direct dates from me- but I think it is going to be 2 weeks later than normal.

fishing user avatarOnthePotomac reply :

Last year was February 16 to March 4.

fishing user avatarDirtyeggroll reply :

March 13-29

fishing user avatarOnthePotomac reply :

Anyone know why it moved so much?

fishing user avatarTBAG reply :

Hopefully soon, I've got some Cabelas gift cards burning a hole in my pocket.

fishing user avatarcookieman reply :

just there its the second week of march, two weeks later this year. Late so we can get our online orders in and dont have to shop there. Mine has probably doubled their private line stuff

I was told it was so they could milk a crappie specific sale.

fishing user avatarschplurg reply :

Every time I see a huge BPS sale I'm disappointed because it's never for anything I want, or it's marked down so little that I don't care.

Anyone in San Jose think the BPS is too dark inside? I can't even read the prices with my glasses on someti....aaaah now I get it ;) But ya it is super dark to me.

Same thing at the one in Hampton, Virginia, always dark and everything that you came for is gone.

Someone decided they had enough stores that they could save real money if they turned the lights down, and got a big bonus for the brilliant idea.

It isn't your eyes. Too dark in our local stores too. Going to BPS in person is a last resort.

I'm glad you guys are bringing up the "darkness" inside BPS....i have had the exact same experience in the Clarksville, Indiana store....very dark....can't see the colors very well....that's why i don't go there anymore.

I just want to trade in a reel!!! Curado K's seem to be holding their value too well ...

This. Usually a BPS sale is just taking an extra chunk off of their house brand stuff which I'm usually not interested in (a few soft plastic exceptions) or putting a trivial discount on something that is probably still cheaper somewhere else anyway.

fishing user avatarCrestliner2008 reply :

I'm assuming their "Spring Sale" will coincide with one for their Cabelas stores - I hope!

fishing user avatarRuss E reply :

@Crestliner2008 We have both here. every sale lately, was the same at both stores.

The main difference was, Bass Pro tends to have a little better selection in the fishing department.

While I would usually (and still do) agree, I have stocked up on some name brand line and bought a 9" Garmin for a great deal last year at Cabelas.........Bass Pro II

For sure there's going to be a few solid deals in there, I have benefitted from them in the past, and I will be checking again this year like always. I just generally find the actual deals aren't on what I want to buy.

So basically they delayed a crappy sale for a crappie sale????

fishing user avatarzell_pop1 reply :

Actually the crappie sale ends Feb12th, so surprised the spring classic is not for a month.

How does this work? I've heard of it but never done it as I don't shop at BPS/Cabelas unless I can't find something at my locally owned tackle store.

I do have several gift cards and plan to buy a few Curado or SLX DC reels.

Can I just trade in a junk flea market reel?

I have done this. Go to Wal Mart. They usually have some el cheapo reels for $10 or less. Get one of them and leave it in the package. When I did the trade in it was at BPS. They will have a greeter when you come in to give the reel to. They will give you a trade in certificate to give to the cashier when you purchase the new reel to get the discount.

Can vouch this is definitely the best way to do it!

A couple of years ago i just turned in a bunch of rods and they allowed me to use the discount on reels too

I was at BPS yesterday picking up a rod, and I asked the sales guy there about the classic.  He told me it starts March 12th or thereabouts.  I didn't ask why, but at least he gave me a date to shoot for.

My BPS usually has a bunch of reels they sell for like $7 right next to the trade in booth. The idea is you buy the cheap new reel and donate it, then they give you a slip for a discounted price on the reel of your choice. The discount depends on the price category. I think it's around 20%.

Start wearing a headlamp. Maybe they'll get the message.

fishing user avatarJ.Bass reply :

I read the messages here and see it starts March 13th 2020. My initial thought is last years sale wasn’t “great” and BPS is trying to enhance people to buy more by having it into spring instead of winter like always. Hopefully sale is better!

Anyone have a leak of flyer or know what’s on sale besides reel and rod trade-in? Thanks.

fishing user avatarOnthePotomac reply :

When the classic flyer is published it will have a table indicating the amount of cash trade in for rods and reels commensurate with the value of the item you want to purchase.  Even though I am a Shimano nut, several years ago I picked up a Pro Qualifier on an $80 sale and used it for three years on my frog set up...a very nice little reel BTW.  Along comes the Chronarch MGL I just had to have so I got $50 for it to the MGL, which with my saved up gift cards put me into a $280 reel for $30.

fishing user avatarMN Fisher reply :

Another thread put up the link to this year's flyer - sale starts March 12.

Yes, it's legit - on page three it shows seminars on 'Saturday March 14' - which IS this year...last year the 14th was a Thursday.

Page two has the trade in chart.

fishing user avatarBrett's_daddy reply :

Each year I get a little more disappointed in the Bass Pro Spring Sale. This used to be the pre-eminent fishing sale of the year with good deals on all the popular name brand stuff like Shimano, Daiwa, Lews etc. but over the past 5+ years those deals have vanished for the most part and they are REALLY pushing their house brand stuff very hard. Honestly, the BPS house brand stuff is super hot or miss IMO, some of it's decent but more often than not it's a cheap knock-off of other successful brands and they don't work as well. The only decent deal they've had in recent years has been their Pro Qualifier 2 reel which is a quality reel and you used to be able to get that for half price at $49.99 but now even that deal is gone as the price has risen to $79.99. It's a shame but maybe if Bass Pro loses enough money as more and more people get discouraged by their mostly house brand sale and look elsewhere they'll come to their senses and realize their customers want more of the popular name brand stuff included like it used to be...one can hope!!!

fishing user avatarFestivus reply :

I know Bass Pro is very popular and probably a sponsor on here but I really don't like them and try to avoid spending my money there at all costs. Now that they have taken over Cabela's I'm forced to give them some of my money. My biggest turn off about the store is the turnstile entrance, it's almost degrading. I mean seriously!?!? Who does this, which company still wants their valued customers to walk through a turnstile for a retail store?!?! The darkness is an actual thing, I just can't get over it. I never have this problem at Cabela's or literally any other retail store. Who came up with this when they were designing their stores? And finally, like has been mentioned their sales are worthless. 30% off of items that are 30% more expensive than most places is not much of a sale. Their house brand is meh at best and only a few of their soft plastics are worth the money. This mega brand of BPS/Cabelas is not good overall for the customer, we need more quality competition. I remember when Cabela's would have an actual sales and clearances that was worth checking out on high quality gear and not just their brands. I get most of what I need at Academy now and will check out the newly made Scheel's here shortly, fingers crossed they have a good selection and decent prices.
