My partner and I fish bass tournaments solely in southeastern Wisconsin. We do very well, but are constantly looking to improve our knowledge and versatility. We've found that sharing ideas with other people around the US and Canada is a great way to bring new techniques to our home waters.
I am looking to start a dialogue with other successful tournament anglers from around the country. We've spent a lot of time working on new techniques that have been successful here and would be willing to share our "secret baits" with others who don't fish tournaments in our area. In exchange, we're hoping to uncover some new stuff for around here.
Let me know if you're interested in talking. The only qualification is that you are not fishing any tournaments in Wisconsin or have any intention to.
I'm in Texas so share away
keep your line wet... 8-)
I'm from Indiana, do you want to share on this forum or through personal messages??
Here you go, I"ll start. These are TOP SECRET...DO NOT share this list with anyone:
BAITS/ LURES
#1 GYCB Fat Ika
#2 GYCB 6" Senko
#3 Micro Munch Tackle El Gordo Tube
#4 ** NEW ADDITION TO THE LIST ** GYCB Kreature
TECHNIQUE
I target cover, structure, and if I'm fishing a river, current breaks.
What is this Fat Ika thing, I keep hearing about it, don't know what it is??
Oh ya,#1 Manns hard nosed frog. They stay up on the hook!!!
#2 River runner spinner baits. Small profile work excellent!
QuoteWhat is this Fat Ika thing, I keep hearing about it, don't know what it is??
Although I am sorely tempted to make a pithy remark, I will give you the benefit of the doubt. I will say, though, that I will be very surprised if any of your "secrets" have not already been revealed somewhere on this site. You might review the articles and posts on here before you claim something is TOP SECRET if you want to avoid embarrassment. Welcome aboard

Ceph, I dont have your strength.....
Umm, this is a forum. The "dialogue" you are looking to "start" occurs here on an everyday basis. Everyone here has spent time working on their "secrets" that usually are known or will get passed around through the community anyways. Look around, read up, welcome aboard.
Let us know if you see Craig Baugher or Jersey Riggs (j/k)

I understand that this is a forum. To me, the value of a forum is two-fold. One, it creates a venue for the free exchange of ideas. Two, it allows people to connect with others with like interests all around the world.
I agree that there are a bunch of great ideas out there on this forum. But at the same time, I'm sure there are certain things that go unshared because of the fear of other competitive anglers getting the information.
Please don't take offense that I am looking for a more private conversation. I am not looking to undermine the forum or take advantage of it. I am simply looking for people of the same mindset who are looking to improve their game and willing to share stuff that they might not on the forum. I think that's fair game.
Well, here we don 't have "secrets", you ain 't gonna find any thread revealing a "secret" bait or rigging or technique; baits, rigs, techniques are freely discussed and many "secrets" are revealed when the discussions take place.
As for "new" techniques, they may be new to you, not necessarily new to many specially old farts that have been in the sport for a long time, drophsot ? we used to call that rig "hook above sinker", shakey head ? yup, we also new about that one too, rigging baits T-style on a jighead is not exactly new, the only thing "new" are the jigheads with a longer hook and a gizmo to attatch the bait.
The only "secret" you need to know is: bass are bass here and in China, they behave the same way everywhere, what catches them here catches them in China; baits are universal, it 's the guy behind the rod handle what counts, catching fish is done with you have between your ears.
Secrets. I dont believe in secret baits just have confidence in a certain bait style. Now Location is a different story. I've fished peoples secret baits in lakes. Yeah it dont work for me. Now secret locations, not really secret but still I do like good locations. I dont fish WI, never been there that I can remember. But share away. I will try and adapt any technique to my fishing style.
Don't be paranoid about sharing thinking that all of us are going to pack our bags and head to WI...I don't believe in secret baits per se...its all a confidence thing. i have confidence in texas rigged watermelon colored plastics, but another member may hate them and he/she kills them with spinnerbaits or cranks...besides, no one lure works the same everyday, any knowledgeable bass fisherman knows that so don't be afraid to share and you'll realize that you'll learn many things as well. Welcome aboard

Well I don't know...
I hear some of of the guys from Cali, Florida, Texas and Georgia are desperate for a chance at some big bass.
:
Hey Roadwarrier, I saw a Hank Parker fishing show yesterday where he was night fishing on Diamond Lake in Calif. Hank interviewed some guy from Calif. that only fishes for large bass. I think he said he has 45 over 15 Pounds! That's not bad for a Cali guy.... ;)
Where do yall purchase your Fat Ikas from. They dont sell them at Bass pro shop or dicks sporting goods.
*** carries them, and I know one of the BassResource.com members/advertisers carries them as well. Brad Coovert, JBCoutfitters.com I think?
The Dick's Sporting Goods around here has them too
QuoteWhere do yall purchase your Fat Ikas from. They dont sell them at Bass pro shop or dicks sporting goods.
Nope, they don 't sell GYCB Ikas, but you can get Kinami 's Palm Tree, they are the same bait.
Or you can buy them direct:

Our Dick's has 'em. Not a lot of choices, but they have some.
They must only carry them at certain dicks, i have been too three in the richmond area and none of them carry them.

SPEEDBEAD, never said bass pro carried them I said Dicks. You may want to re-read....so much for your statement as well. :
I don't believe in telling what baits or locations to fish them. I don't even believe in telling people I am on a particular lake for fear that they will follow me and watch with binoculars. I am even secretive about my secrets.
I have learned through years of pro fishing the secrets of the pros, but I ain't telling, cause it's a secret. By the way: I hope that the code works for this message as I don't want it to get around.
Ah what the heck. The following is the secret of all the top level pros:
Cfmjfwf jo zpvstfmg!
Turtle1 suffers from a severe case of sensitive skin ...... try Caladryl lotion.
Personally if I had a "secret" bait I'd share it on this site in a SECOND.
I had never been aware of the Fat Ika before BassResource and as a result of RoadWarriors posts about it I have caught more bass this year on the Ika than ANY other bait I use. (I get them @ Dicks in Manassas)
If RoadWarrior didn't share his "secret" I'd be a lesser fisherman today. I'm grateful for every successful angler that chooses to spread information and share the goodwill and excitement that comes with catching our quarry of choice and helping each other learn how to be more successful.
On a side note, my wife calls the Ika "the pickle with the skirt..."
My first pack of Ikas were green pumpkin. heh
Part of me totally understands wanting to protect your "secrets," but personally should I learn that boogers on a treble hook catch big bass...BassResource.com members will be the first to know about it. ;D

DOH!! Ah, whatever. I give up. Now he knows where he can and can't get them....

Raul,
You amuse me.You know nothing about me.Yet this, like many other topics on this fourm you assume that you do.They call this ITHINKIKNOWEVERYTHINGIDES.There is a cure, just take a step back, close your mouth, open your ears and you will be truly amazed at what you might learn. You will also find that you won't need to pull your foot out of your mouth quite as often.

SPEEDBEAD,
Whatever :-X
The BPS in St Charles has Kinami Palm Trees, not Fat Ikas. Same exact bait, different packaging. I buy from them all the time. Nine colors, $4.50 for a five pack.

Thanks, now my feelings are hurt. Bully....
Well, apparently Caladryl wasn 't strong enough, add Noxema, that will take away the itch.
I was going to share some secrets but I get in enough trouble around here as it is
I wish I knew some secrets. I would tell everone. Maybe that is why no one will tell me any secrets!!! ;D ;D ;D

SPEEDBEAD,Now c,mon we all know I'm way to sensitive to be a bully ;D
AHHHH,I was just venting,was having a bad day >
I'm sure I came off wrong, didn't mean to. No hard feeling I hope. :-[
Now back on topic.Stopped at Dicks last night, needed a few things(wow was that a mistake$$$)Anyway wanted to see if they still carried Ikas. And sure enough there they were, not a real big selection,But they had some none the less(Sorry Raul :-X).So I did what any self respecting tackle junkie would do.Bought three packs
Kinda got me thinking ,learned about them Ikas right here at BR and how to t-rig them backwards(AWSOME SECRET )And many other tips, tricks, and techniques.Don't think I'd really call them secrets but, I am thankfull for all the help and advice I've gotten here 8-)
TURTLE
Its cool, same thing around here. Its easier to count the days that arent stressful.
Nash, I do not have a problem with personal networks. Nor did I sign a contract when joining this site to reveal everything I know, which really is not much anyways. I am sure others here send pms. Do as you wish. Not that many tournament fishers here. Some of the loudest on this site have a chip on their shoulder when it comes to tourney fishers. Dont let this make you shy.

I've figured it out with my Dick Tracy decoder ring. The secret is . . . . . .
"Hook the fish."
Oh oh, that Dick Tracy decoder ring can get you in trouble - next thing you know you will be in front of the CIA for giving away secrets.
Most of the baits you've just seen mentioned here are topnotch, anywhere, anytime, anyhow producers.
It's like dropping a live shad in front of a 15# bass, unless you're using clothesline, or doing a drum solo on the bottom of the boat right over his head, chances are very good you'll hook up.
Other personal lures, techniques, etc. that we all stumble on or find by trial and error. I could tell you about--draw pictures--explain all the modifications for 10 different conditions, and it still wouldn't do you any good-(except by accident)-.
The only thing that would help you is if I came up to WI, held your hand and personally tutored you for a week or so. And since you're not issuing any Visas, I guess that's out. CB
P.S. The same goes for the secrets you'd give me, but you're welcome to come down to FL anyway. Who knows you may win one of our Tournaments. At least you won't have to worry about Walleyes.
QuoteOr you can buy them direct:http://***/cgi-bin/order/92F-10
I bought some of them bad boys, after reading articles about it on here, and I find it hard to believe they weigh a 1/2 oz with a 4/0 hook! I tried it rigged backwards and forwards, and it sure didn't sink like it weighed a 1/2 oz! it sank more like an 1/8 oz,....maybe. Do your Ika's fall that fast?
